CYPRESS, Texas (KTRK) -- Three Texas bounty hunters have been charged after they made illegal entry into a home and engaged in a shootout with one of the residents, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. A study of nearly 108,000 people has found that people who regularly drink a modest amount of alcohol are at increased risk of atrial fibrillation, a condition where the heart beats in an abnormal rhythm. The study, published today (Wednesday) in the European Heart Journal [1], found that, compared to drinking no alcohol at all, just one alcoholic drink a day was linked to a 16% increased risk of atrial fibrillation over an average (median) follow-up time of nearly 14 years. This means that while four teetotallers in 100 might develop atrial fibrillation over the period of the study, five per 100 might develop the condition if they consumed alcohol starting with slightly more than an alcoholic drink a week and more than 75% of them consumed up to one drink a day [2]. The researchers categorised one alcoholic drink as containing 12 g of ethanol, which is the equivalent of a small (120 ml) glass of wine, a small beer (330 ml) or 40 ml of spirits.

There is a hero-worship for small businesses in this country. I love competent businesses, great and small, who will do what i need done at a good price. If the business is small, great. If it is a big business, great. But indicate to me you don't want my business, I walk.
Last week a small but thriving business turned around a hat that I needed work on (a new rank sown on it) in 10 minutes when most places took 10 days. I bought a few more items in appreciation. But other small businesses have indicated to me that I am not welcome whether by behaving rudely towards me or doing shitty work. (And big businesses too for that matter.)

A few months ago, my daughter and I changed our walk routine so we'd no longer walk through a Biden-Harris town. Now we walk through a Trump train town. In my family, there are a few health care workers who have first hand experience with the shots...
Here's the scuttlebutt: health care workers who have dealt with covid for months, maintained meticulous hygiene and NOT come down with it are getting the shot and...voila!...they then come down with covid. I'm hearing two theories on it, as it's too soon to have actual research on it and that may never even happen:
1. when you get the shot, there is a window of time when it makes you MORE susceptible to catching covid; it actually weakens your immune system for a little while, so if you do get it, be super careful about who you come in contact with.
OR
2. If you have already been exposed to covid in the past, getting the shot stirs up something that brings our an infection.
Both theories were told to me by health professionals but for me only the first one makes any sense.

This! Bill Ward is one of my favorite drummers, he's got an intricate, delicate, almost jazz-like sound at times that really makes the band. He knows just where to place the right amount to make it interesting. A run of the mill thundering skinbeater would have been grotesquely out of place.

I have a Minolta SRT101, a manual camera with match-needle metering system. It uses a mercury battery to power the metering system, which are now no longer sold, because mercury is de debbil's metal, doncha know?
Dpn't know if your Minolta is the same in that respect, or not. Many devices of the era used mercury batteries as a voltage reference, because they maintained a stable voltage almost to their very end of life.

Open the camera back and look at the 24mmx36mm exposure window, in which the shutter will be visible. Start snapping test clicks with the shutter speed set to 1/1000th second, working down to 1/500th, then 1/250th, and etc. Run the dial all the way down to it's 1 second setting, and then the "B" setting, where it ought to hold the shutter open for as long as you hold the shutter button down. While in the "B" setting, work the aperture setting on the lens, from it's widest opening (f/1.8?), down to f/22, if a normal range normal lens. You should see the iris close down in a smooth, symmetrical manner.

Well, we had a bit of rumbling here on Saturday, as NASA finally got around to a full scale burn of the SLS main engines at their Stennis MS facility. We're about 30 miles or so from there, and the engines could be heard/felt for 60 miles or so. But...
The burn was to last for 8 minutes. It lasted for 1. Oopsie. Oops! Some kind of Major Component Failure theater. This may set back the first flight of the rocket, unmanned, planned for the end of this year.
NASA -- Setting fire to yuge sums of taxpayer dollars since '75 or so, and the occasional school teacher as well. For 2020, I believe the score was NASA -- 0, Space X -- 31 in launches.

I've hung sheetrock before, successfully, but taping and mudding it, and have it come out looking good, well, I'm still a bit behind on that part.

I made the extension. Five-foot length of old 1/2" galvanized water pipe. Socket end of used drill-bit extender. 7/16" socket with hex drive shank, from a socket set. Drive both pieces into ends of pipe, lock with bead of weld. Drive #2 Phillips bit into socket end, chuck other end in cordless drill. Woo-hoo! It ran true. A little heavy, but I was mostly pushing it straight up, so it was not twisting my arm.
Kind of handy, being able to to stand on a solid floor, and drive a sheetrock screw into a 12-foot ceiling. And I had less cam-out problems, because I could get directly under each screw, and push straight up, something you cannot do hanging off a ladder.

First floor of my house has 10 ft ceilings. I bought a Harbor Freight dry wall jack. One man show. Sanding was a bitch. Mud and tape is not one of my strengths.

I was lucky enough to be able to buy a drywall panel hoist off my neighbor for a C-note. It worked just fine, too. I am done with it now, and will probably try to sell it, since it takes up a lot of room.

The XD-11 was a joint project between Minolta and Leica. The Minolta DNA was heavily infused into what became the Lecia R series of 35mm SLR bodies. Which means, no wonder that your XD-11 runs like a Swiss Watch. It has relatives, there.

Well the secret is to use a 4" knife to bury the tape flat, then move to an 8" for the first actual coat, and make sure you wipe the edges, and don't worry about a small line that may form in the middle of the joint. When that coat is dry run the knife along that little line to scrap it. Then move a 12" knife for the last coat, and again pay attention to the edges. It takes practice, but if you get it right a damp sponge will make quick work of any small imperfections in the edge or middle.

Now I've been in the "sock" category a few times, usually 30 posts or so does it. I had 34, mostly snarking a comment with a sock.
Last week, however, I did something I've never done here. 386 frigging comments. I made the top 10 using my real nic. That's how bad it was for me last week.
This week I'll still be around, but I DVR'ed a bunch of Untouchable TV shows from one of those channels way down the line, and that should keep me away from any Senile Placeholder news for the week. Cuz it isn't news, it's propaganda, and I'm not playing their game.

On a related topic, I've absolutely destroyed belt sanders, working down major flaws, seams and humps in subflooring before the hardwood went down. Y'might not be able to make it all FLAT, but you can make the ripply transitions all but imperceptible. Worst I did, took a solid five days to reduce about 80 sq. ft. to a workable plane. My leftover N-95 masks were my ace in the hole when the covid first hit, before we realized the masks were the bullshit. But they sure were lifesavers against the sawdust, then. (sawdust being a bazillion times larger than a virus protein)

I had a little strobe unit for a Kodak 110 camera in the mid 70s. Came in useful for strobe wars against the next dorm. Except for the complaints from the evening classes on the other floors of the building (two floors of classrooms, one dorm, one floor of professor's offices. Well, not like I used to a few years ago, making a day of it, going to the neighborhood watering hole and drinking and eating with friends (everything is closed by Emperor Inslee decree), or invite friends over and serve meats, sides, and cold brews.
Rather I DVD's the games, waited until they were recorded so I could fast forward through them, and treated it more like background noise than an event.

WTF? Not only was he full of crap, he told the customer three times that she was wrong.
He did offer to refund me $4 for my trouble. Gosh, that really saved the day. We ended up streaming it and cancelling cable. Welcome to the new normal.

I think there are plenty of conservative/constitutionally-minded judges...the problem is, that means they follow the rule of law, while the enemy breaks it. Hard to raise people to positions of power who truly believe in the law as the Founders intended, and then expect them to betray that in order to save it.

The purpose of any election is not to get the winners to agree they won, rather it is to get the losers to accept they lost.
