The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

I spent a few minutes scrolling through Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's Twitter timeline yesterday, and I thought, damn, I'm really going to miss this guy. He really gets it. And then I got to wondering, who else will I miss from the the Trump administration?

First, I've always liked Trump's press secretaries. Sean Spicer, Sarah Sanders were good, but Kayleigh McEnany was absolutely superb and she really knew how to shove it up the asses of the rat bastard White House Press Corp, whose work really should be declared an in-kind campaign contribution to the DNC and reported to the FEC.

I'm going to miss Kayleigh the most.

I liked Molly DeVos. She came from the private sector, not some government bureaucracy, so all the lefties hated her. Good. I loved to listen to 'em wail when Ms. DeVos promoted school choice.

Ric Grenell. Where did he come from? He was great. He just seemed to have an intuitive understanding of what Trump wanted to accomplish and did whatever he could to help. He's man who gets it.

Nikki Haley. No, wait, hear me out on this: President Trump gave her a specific job to do, to go the United Nations and represent American interests forcefully and unapologetically, and she did. I think she did a good job. I wish she was still there, doing what she did. But not now. Now I think she needs to get off the national stage. She's getting pimped by the media as some sort of contender for the GOP candidacy in 2024, which means they think she's the candidate most likely to lose to Biden. From what I've seen from her, Nikki Haley is precisely the kind of candidate that we *don't* need. I think she's more like Jeb! than Trump.

My biggest disappointment? No, not Tillerson, not Mattis, and don't get me started on Jeff Sessions. The guy was as useless as a condom in a convent. I never had much expectations for him. The winner here is Attorney General William Barr, because with him, I did. Seriously, with all the criminal activity hurled at President Trump, what, in the end, did he actually do about it? Oh, I know he investigated and even assigned John Durham with the expectation of criminal indictments, but all of that sort of went poof on November 4th, now, didn't it? That means that not only did the Democrats get away with stealing an election in broad daylight, which is maddening enough, but all of that other stuff, the spying on the Trump and the bogus "dossier" and the phony collusion charges leading to impeachment, most likely orchestrated by a cabal of Obama loyalists, that started the very day that Trump was inaugurated in 2017, is going to be swept down the memory hole and everyone is going to pretend that it never happened. It's absolutely infuriating. I'd like to know, what, exactly were Barr and Durham doing for all this time?

Friday Who Dis: was a repeat. I had gathered up the photos and then I checked to see if I had used actress Coleen Gray before (she was a staunch Republican, by the way). I rag on Pixy's blogging software quite a bit, but I must say the search function is fantastic. It told me that I had already shown Ms. Gray back in Nov. 2019, which I think was shortly after I started the 7-photo/5-photo format. I was going to find someone new, but I liked the photos better than the ones I used before. She worked with Stephen McNally in the gangster film Johnny Rocco, among other films. McNally was a Roman Catholic who was married to his wife from 1941 to his death in 1994 and they had 8 children.

19 Personally, as a person in the Education field, I was extremely disappointed with DeVoss. She talked a good game but did absolutely nothing to structurally change the Department of Education. Last July would have been the perfect opportunity to craft a policy giving Federal Education Dollars to families for School Choice. That's just the latest example of missed opportunities.

The only good thing she did was hold the Title IX kangaroo courts at bay for a few years. With the momentum halted they may be hard to restart - so that is good. But everything from Washington corrupting K-12 Education to the Federal Subsidies of College Student Loans is still running smoothly.

I actually held the unpopular opinion of not trusting Barr one bit until he actually performed. I think by the point he was in I was programmed to think that everybody with an amazing track record was just a sleeper cell. I think even Pence played that one out. 44 I love Somewhere in Time. It has held up very well, I think. Saw it again very recently and I was surprised how simple, yet adult, the story was. You'd never get a movie like that made today.

I always paired it with Time After Time, with Malcom McDowell and Mary Steenburgen, because of the theme, of course, but also because early HBO wrang the heck out of them, and they were something whole families could watch. I think Time After Time is a better film, but Somewhere in Time is great too. And it introduced a lot of people to Rachmaninoff which isn't bad either.

46 Mrs. Wolfus No. 2 and I saw Somewhere in Time when it was brand new. She was a big Reeve fan (she was female, no real surprise) and I liked Jane. It turned out to be a bargain evening, as we both got eye candy, and it was a great script beautifully handled.

Trivia bit: In the film, as Reeve is researching the time travel aspect, someone tells him about the theories of one Professor Finney. That was a nod by Richard Matheson (author of the original novel) to Jack Finney, whose Time and Again is one of the great time travel novels. The concept of "believing yourself back into an earlier time" was the method Finney's hero used to travel to 1880s New York

65 Morning Mika went on a tear this morning. Don;tt agree with her on WHY they stink, but agree with the underlying problem -- they have too much control of discourse and information:

"If this is some sort of last-minute suck up to Joe Biden by Twitter and Facebook, all you've done is shown just how impactful everything that you've been doing so far has been in terms of spreading disinformation," Brzezinski.

She added, "You have shown that you should have done this [suspend Trump] a long time ago. And perhaps there wouldn't be people dead. Perhaps there wouldn't be people following false scientific information about the coronavirus. Perhaps there wouldn't have been some sort of insurrection at the Capitol that was promulgated all over your sites. Perhaps there wouldn't be so much hatred and disinformation! . . .You need to be shut down! Nobody needs what you have to offer! You have destroyed this country! And quite frankly, it's still happening right now."

I'd like to say I can't believe the FIB is now vetting all of our troops for wrong thing - but it's come to be expected. That little meme above about Biden being scared to death is spot on. Trump was one in a zillion.

What I have to wonder is who's really afraid? Is it Biden, his handlers, or both? One thing about the beginning stages of dementia is they're still cognizant, and extremely paranoid.

If Biden, then things could get really entertaining, like Commander Queeg shit. I can see a tribunal to find out who took the ice cream (or shit his pants).

85 William Barr was who we argued about all year. A famous poster said that Barr was obviously intelligent and dedicated, so the fact that he wasn't doing anything was proof that he was saving it all up for one grand sweep. Many others pointed out that no, the observed evidence indicates that he's just another member of the Deep State who talks a good game, but who in the end is only interested in covering everything up.

Well, now we know how that turned out.

Grenell was spectacularly under-utilized. He should have been running and reforming the FBI or CIA. He is one of the few I'd support as President.

None of the press secretaries, nor more importantly Trump himself, really knew how to kick the fucking media in the teeth. Trump was correct when he called them "enemy of the people" but he never backed it up. No, she didn't get it. She wanted literal answers to literal questions, questions that ultimately didn't matter.

Like, what was up with Sarah Palmer? Did we need a literal answer about what spirit was inhabiting her or what she had become? I don't think so. Sarah's pain at the cursed life she had led had turned her vicious and evil. Dolley wanted the literal answer of what it was in her face, and she was unsatisfied with my explanation and the idea that her question wasn't actually important to understanding what was going on.

Her mind doesn't work that way. I don't think less of her for it. It just means that I'm probably not going to try and get her to watch Eraserhead. I mean, she was fucking pissed through Part 8 and left with 15 minutes to go.

I agree with this. He had nothing to gain by going back into government - he was retired, had more money than he knew what to do with, and he did have a high institutional regard for the DoJ. While I run hot and cold on Levin, he still has a high regard for Barr FWIW, and I think he speaks with some authority in that area - far more than Andrew McCarthy, for instance.

That is actually why I picked up Twin Peaks to begin with. I'd seen all of the first season, most of the second, and Fire Walk With Me with a girlfriend over a decade ago, never really feeling any inclination to revisit it or see the revival. 224 211 Another trivia bit: Reeve and Robin Williams attended Juilliard together and were roommates. Imagine going into a NYC diner early on a cold morning in, say, 1974, and seeing these two guys in a booth? "The tall one looks kind of like Superman. 225 Ben Carson gets no mention but I'd bet he did a good job of shaping up HUD by telling a lot of grifters to GTFO and be lucky they weren't indicted, which under Amy Cumdumpster Jackson would be problematic.

Trump was probably a demanding executive and many of his direct reports were used to doing things their own way so some obvious feathers were ruffled. Ultimately the derp state proved too obdurately opposed to being told what to do which will be an ongoing problem until the Uniparty considers their presence unwanted. Then things get sporty if it comes to pass.

226 Someone said a while back that Trump had a 20th century mentality. In fact, most of our side do. Either that, or a serious learning disability when it comes to the Left.

If you step back and assess the decades-long subversion and now sudden theft of our country you can really only conclude that we're pathetic.

We've been spectators or passive enablers to our undoing while the Left has been an active and aggressive agent for their own interests.

We just lost a glorious four-year window of opportunity to belatedly wage war.

Maybe it's not too late. But some serious changes of consciousness and determination will need to take place.

Posted by: EveR at January 18, 2021 11:38 AM (R0z7P)
when Barr was a guest on Levin's Fox show, Levin asked him to explain what an AG actually does. Which pretty much is nothing. They do not run around and bring charges on people, rather they wait for their Federal attorneys to decide to bring charges. Those same Federal atty's then show up in Barr's office and ask for permission to run the case based on whether the AG decides the case has a chance of being adjudicated in the Goverment's favor.
So when you have a swamp full of Federal attorneys who couldn't care less if their department or the FBI or whomever is illegally spying or doing whatever to US citizens or other government officials whose politics they don't like, they simply ignore it. And Barr says, "Oh well, no one brought any charges".
Levin normally archives those shows, worth watching.

This is true. However, this served to make the Trump Administration the most transparent ever. This was a great, great thing. Giving the American people an idea of the goings-on in the White House only serves government better. Any crazy ideas that they cook up in there get leaked out and people have a chance to react to them before they turn out to be disastrous policy choices.

Trump talked to all comers, even though he knew they were hostile. This is great, because a smart team takes their hate (and occasional good perspective) into account when formulating policy as well. One of the worst things that will come from a Biden WH is all the happy talk coming from the MSM about everything that goes on there. Expect no hostile leaks, either.

All the bad news will come out after the policies are set in stone.

Not that he'd roll up the coup, mind you - just attempt to restore order in law enforcement and make some desultory efforts at securing a couple of piddling indictments on losers like Page and Peterstroke.

But those efforts never came to pass. And then, he stuck the Hunter Biden laptop in his desk and ignored it for a solid year. I was wrong; Thomas Bender was right. Deep State button-man from the jump.

It will be interesting to see whether we are in for some, um, revisionism on COVID19 once Good Ol' Joe gets into office. Will we start to see stuff coming from the CDC and articles in the NEJM, JAMA, Lancet at al finally pointing out that 99% of symptomatic patients recover and that for most of them the symptoms are mild? Will we start to see a reappraisal of the epidemiology? Will that 400,000 deaths number now come with caveats? Should be fun to watch the gyrations among our "scientific" betters.

347 So, I need to make a prayer request. My brother was admitted to the hospital over the weekend. It seems he's had some internal bleeding along with some other self-induced issues. The initial tests revealed some significant ulcers on his esophagus and a possible tumor. They've played hell trying to get his blood numbers corrected and he required a transfusion Saturday due to the blood loss. They're not 100% sure where the blood is coming from, but the upper GI and CT scans didn't reveal anything definitive.

He had a biopsy and scope this morning and we're waiting on the results from that. He ate solid food today, which had a bit of a negative reaction, but was short term. They need him to poop to see if there's blood to see if they need to do a lower scope.

Initial reaction from the esophagus was not thrilling as the Dr. said the tumor has them concerned.

All this a day after he found out he'd finally got a job after 4 months of 'funemployment.'

I believe the AG, Leslie Rutledge will run for guv, and her campaign spiel was "I'm a Christian, gun carrying, conservative mother" and so far she looks like she means it.

Otherwise, if they plodded along (even like Obama) it would give us time to fall back, regroup and form a plan. That cannot stand.

Hope it's ok. It could also be minor. My mother - 94 with severe dementia - got whisked off to the hospital right after her birthday. Vomiting blood, blood in stool, not good. So not good they let me in to visit. She was in ICU for a week. After a transfusion she stabilized, and was dismissed. Turns out it was H. Pylori - something kids get from eating poop. Yeah. Adults that have it often don't notice. Old people get bleeding ulcers. She was re-admitted 3 weeks later because she refused to take her meds, that's sorted out. Hopefully, it's something simple, although I'll admit, my first thought was the big C every time it's something unusual.

412 I've been thinking about this a bit.

Trump's greatest strength is that he was a businessman.
In business, you get things done or, you know, "You're fired."

Trump's greatest weakness is that he was a businessman.
The expectation in business is that you will do your job to the best of your ability and that is how you succeed.
In politics, it's something akin to "get in line, follow the guy who's been in line longer than you, hold out your rice bowl and eventually you'll get bigger and bigger portions", but "if you don't follow the orders of the rice givers, you can get kicked out of line forever"
Trump hire's were never his men or women except of a few.
He would've done much better to have brought in his own people in managerial positions and run the whole thing like a business. Politicians are all shitweasels.

421 Trump is the ultimate unsympathetic victim. Anyone who dared work for him was targeted for professional and personal destruction. The entire deep state sought to either undermine him or actively seek his destruction. Prominent democrats including Pelosi, Schumer, and Schiff lied about him every day while saying they had evidence of Trump colluding with Russia. It is amazing that Trump was able to get anyone to work in his administration. But this was the goal all along. And most of the 'conservative' pundits were just jackals, nipping at Trump to prop up their own decades-long failures.
