Fake Doctor Who Is "Quitting" the Soon-To-Be-Cancelled Show
Yes I know: Not only is this about a frivolous topic -- a tv sci-fi show -- but it's about a tv sci-fi show that everyone stopped watching two years ago.
Still, let us note again the Iron Law: Get Woke, Go Broke. Doctor Who is now hitting its all time lowest ratings. They just had a "Festive Special." They used to have a Christmas special, but now it's on New Years Day, not Christmas, so they call it a Festive Special. When former companion Billie Piper asks why it's no longer on Christmas, former Doctor Matt Smith accidentally tells the truth and says, "I don't know, I guess it's been demoted." Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding. That is correct. Whereas the Christmas Special used to get ratings in the 12 million, 13 million range, the latest "Festive Special" got... 4.69 million. The absolute lowest of the rebooted Doctor Who. And so, it's about time to finally admit what was obvious three years ago: Fake Doctor Who is a complete failure. The putative star of Fake Doctor Who, Jodie Whittaker, is reportedly "quitting" the show. And the BBC isn't denying it. Is she quitting or is she fired? Probably something like "quitting to avoid being fired." Being a high-profile failure for more than three years straight isn't good for anyone's career. For three years, the media has colluded to lie that the show was not just good, but among the best versions of itself ever. Because they couldn't admit that Woke Doctor Karen was a failure. Now that the ever-falling ratings make it impossible to maintain that lie, the media switches to a new tack: Yes the show is awful, but it's the BBC's fault, not Jodie Whitaker's.The BBC has failed Doctor Who, and Jodie Whittaker – no wonder she's quitting Flat, worthy and woke, the unlucky 13th Doctor's adventures have been a criminal waste of this talented actress – and caused a ratings slide ... The 13th Doctor’s adventures were often flat, worthy and woke - often starting promisingly but soon disappearing up their own time-space continuum. In the midst of mediocre writing, Whittaker was unable to carve out a strong identity. She was neither frightening, fierce nor funny like previous incumbents. Yes, she had warmth and fizzing energy but that wasn’t enough to fully flesh her out. Instead she was made slightly socially awkward and needy, forever talking about friendship, trying to make her "fam" catch on, cracking corny jokes and straining to be down with the kids. It’s like a lack of confidence in the character becoming female found its way into the uneven writing. She was made tomboyish and surrounded by men so her femininity didn't scare the horses. Unfortunately, all this achieved was to drain her of originality and dilute Whittaker's undoubted charisma.I doubt her charisma. In fact, I flatly deny it. Oh the BBC, and the producer, and the writers, all contributed mightily to this pile of woke failure. But so did Jodie Whitaker. Not only does she not have a speck of intelligence in her eyes and no gravitas in her personality, but she decided to introduce herself to the Doctor Who fandom by announcing that all previous Doctor Who was sexist. She's a vapid, moderately-attractive dope trying to play a swaggering immortal adventurer. Of course, you can't blame an actress for being completely unsuited for a part. You blame the idiot who hired her. In this case, it was worthless failure beta male showrunner Chris Chibnall who not only hired her but insisted the BBC hire her. And the BBC is threatening that they're keeping him on for next season. However, the truth is: 1, they're not keeping him on. They just don't want to admit the enormity of their failure all in one go. So they're claiming that Jodie Whitaker is quitting by her own decision now, but that Chibnall's staying on, because he's so great and has produced such good television. And then, in a couple of months, whoops, he's "moving on" too. 2, they're not keeping anyone on, because the show is such a calamity that they'll have to cancel it for a decade until the filthy stink of the Chibnall/Whitaker era dissipates. Meanwhile, the Star Trek franchise has likely been killed for an entire generation thanks to the Cult of Wokeism, and Star Wars is mostly dead (only partly alive due to the intervention of Toxcially Masculine director Jon Favreau). But they'll keep on doing it.

I never thought about that. In the US, Christmas specials are groaners. Throw away episodes that nobody will watch because they're too busy with Christmas to bother, and they never really mesh with the rest of the show. They're like placeholders. Must be different in Ol' Blighty.

And there was no way that the BCC could be surprised by what has happened. They had a big, flashing red flag indicator already inside the Doctor Who universe in the form of the spin-off show "Torchwood." Torchwood sucked. It was preachy and woke before "woke" even got its new meaning.
It failed fairly catastrophically. This shouldn't be even remotely surprising to the Beeb, but somehow it will be.

Btw, I am not saying that no good films of religious experiences can be made. Over the decades, there have been some but far too many are lousy.
Ironically, around 2000 or so, there were some decently successful US TV shows revolving around religion in a fresh light. Those are by and large abandoned now by even the fringe networks--Hallmark for example is steadily moving to faith being simply in the background or absent in their holiday flicks. Was no always that way.

US TV got away from them due to diversity issues and simply put it in the background around the 1990's. However, if you go back to the 60's even until the early 80's, Christmas shows were a big deal because potential audiences were at home for ratings.
MeTV used to stack Christmas specific episodes of popular tv series around the holiday, dunno if they still do.

The original Rocky in 1976 said a lot about the state of the country in the Carter years. Rocky didn't want to win, all he wanted to do was go the distance. It was a bleak time, although I think today is worse. Then in 1977 Star Wars came out and it was pure escapism with an untainted happy ending. I think that had more to do with its success than plot, acting, effects, or anything else.

Unfortunately, TV ratings are down across the board, and that complete shite festive special still ended up top ten on the ratings, so I wouldn't bank on any creative turnaround on the near future.
Plus, the show already went full woke after 2013 and completely squandered the talents of the last Doctor, Peter Capaldi, who was a genuinely good Doctor.

I am through the first three seasons of "Chuck" it is on prime free.
It is probably the most fun I've ever had watching TV. So good, I got my wife watching it and she watched the first couple episodes of season 1, and got hooked. Binge watched the rest of season one on a Saturday.
It is so good, that I got the DVDS for my unmarried brother for Christmas and he is already through season one and almost finished with season two. Loves it.
I don't know if it goes down hill in seasons 4 or 5. I hope not. Great cast. Bunch a people you never heard of before, except adam baldwin but absolutely great acting.
If you haven't seen it. You have hours and hours of fantastic fun ahead of you with seasons 1-3 alone.

This guy uses equal or sweet and low in it because of diabetes. I was sort of excited for Capaldi - thinking of proper "older" doctors like Pertwee - until I saw what they were doing to it. He had nothing to work with, and indeed, full tilt into the woke singularity. What's really sad is when it was obvious how bad they'd gotten, the joke was "next Doctor they'll make a woman", and damned if they didn't think it was a great idea instead of a slam on how fargone the series had gotten.
The Doctor was supposed to have 12 shots at it, he's gotten lucky. Let's just kill him off now, and enjoy the older reruns.

A few years ago there was a traveling Star Wars costume exhibit at the local art museum. On the one hand, it was interesting to see how much thought and work went int omaking the closthes. For example, Han Solo's vest was a space version of the old west sheriff look. On the other hand, all of the historical inspiration behind Padma's various outfits, and the countless house spent hand sewing each feather, each bead, etc. showed that Lucas and team were really not keeping their eye on what makes his movies watchable (not the fancy dress that took 100's of hours to make but is on screen for 30 seconds).

Not sure how many episodes you watched. He definitely has an arc.
I think the biggest weakness of the show is making him interesting enough in the first couple episodes to keep a watcher on the hook. He is a down and out, depressed nerd initially.
they try to keep in interesting by giving you the Bryce larkin element up front and in the next couple of episodes they give you Chuck's back story. Chuck doesn't really hit his stride as an agent until season two. Season three is Lit As F. So I can definitely see someone not being interested if they didn't make it to episode 4 of season 1. I think season 1 overall is the weakest of the three I have seen so far but I liked it. I was expecting a drop off in season 2, but it got better. Then expecting a drop off in season 3 and it got better still. Kind of shocked actually. Seriously shocked. I thought it would turn into repetitive dreck. Not yet.

I think it started as one or couple guys, and got bigger. And, I think it was definitely a t-shirt selling scheme for a few of them. Maybe an op to embarrass the Right, for a few as well.

Who knew going back to archetypal types/tropes of a gunslinger/knights, heroes/villains, quests/journey's with interesting characters and satisfying stories would be wildly popular.
No kidding...the Mandalorian Hegemony now threatening the rest of the infotainment industry is kind of hilarious considering that the only real magic is that it's an old school episodic TV show at a time when everyone else is either trying to be oppressively, blandly SJWish or tell a 400 hour story one piece at a time.
I've only seen a couple of episodes on account of going from "watch television after school" in the 90s to "not really anything good on television" in the 00s to "what's a television?" in the 10s, but watched some when visiting a relative who's really into it and was shocked to be able to actually follow what's going on without starting from the beginning. Of course, I still don't care enough to actually subscribe to anything but at least I better understand why everyone's so fired up about this thing.

I have two neighbors who are of similar persuasion.
They are still relatively Dem, though. Not kookoo-bananas like the New England hellholes they each respectively escaped from, buuuuuutttttttt....one still voted Biden because he "just can't get over Trump's personality."
The other is definitely center-right, but is currently wanting to run for local city council in order to boot out a corrupt old coot, and she's willing to "work behind the scenes" with local Dem operatives in order to get on. Council seats are apolitical - nobody runs with a party affiliation.
I'm underwhelmed. But they are both nice people, not crazy, and I hope that they will go redder and redder as time goes on (probably about as much as they hope I will go bluer and bluer).

Yep. I've developed a knack for feeling people out that works pretty well.
I start with something a bit anodyne, e.g., criticizing something the CA governor/legislature have done, or referring to Newsom as "Governor Hair Gel." (Something that I can walk back if need be.) Then I watch the response.
If it's neutral, or entails a change of subject, I drop it. But if the person rises to the bait enthusiastically, I know I've encountered a brother.
We're at a point in baseball practice where any liberals keep their yaps shut because they know they're in the vast minority. It's like a little bubble of sanity.

They well may be but I do not believe that those Governors have power to send or direct them them anywhere outside the state. And I know for a fact that many, many of the NG in VA would not follow Coonman's orders contrary to their oaths because there has been a tremendous amount of pushback from them over VA gun laws.
