Palate Cleanser: Leftwing Governors Have 10-Kegger Rager in Shared Party House, While Issuing Lockdown Orders Commanding People to Stay Alone At Home

Okay, so no one looks like the governor he's portraying, but if you get past that, it's a hoot.

Compare to the millionaire Jake Tapper -- given an exception to continue working, despite the pandemic -- talking with the billioniare Bill Gates who no longer needs to work (but who gets huge checks anyway) about why small businesses must be forced to close for six months and driven into bankruptcy if it saves only one life.

Election decides which slate to seat.. ie who gets to vote.

Dems voted this morning for Biden, but the Repub Electors also went ahead and voted for symbolic reasons.

112 "Appropriate," eh? According to whom? Based on what evidence?

I know, I know.

But these folks are going to be in for a rude awakening. I don't know if they know how many restaurants, bars, independent shops and the like were able to survive the first lockdown back in the Spring through a combination of burning through precious capital, hope and massive community support (people - I was one of them - who ate a *lot* of carryout food to help restaurants get over the hump, for example).

The capital is gone, the hope has been dashed and the community support for this baloney just isn't there anymore. A lot of folks that survived the first time will *not* survive this time. The closures are already tremendous, at least in my area. I know that the people in charge don't care about killing off these businesses and destroying the owners' lives, but eventually they're probably going to care about crashing tax receipts. They can't print money like the feds can. Granted, the feds can print and give it away to the states, but it won't be enough.

-------------------------
The sort of interesting think about tax policy is that the Dems have been pushing for their clients, the uber rich to be taxed heavily but in actuality they always end up taxing the middle class.

Trump was accused of taxing the poor but actually smacked the upper middle class pretty hard and the benefits actually went to working people.

I expect that Biden will allow SALT deductions to got back to normal to favor the wealthy.

Posted by: Romeo13 at December 14, 2020 03:00 PM (oHd/0)

At the beginning of covid (or maybe even pre covid) I remember reading somewhere that hospitals need to be at something like 85% capacity to make money and they aim to be at 90-95%. Obviously the money makers are elective surgeries and whatnot, and not illegal immigrants in the ER with a tooth ache.

That said ... I can't find any information on what the "normal" hospital utilization rate is now.

But it is strange that the media as a whole is now using the "ICU capacity" when last time we were hearing the "hospitals are at capacity" stuff it was overall capacity.

I suspect it's because most hospitals have small ICU's, but could easily convert other areas of the hospital to function as ICU's if needed. But they don't need to, and overall utilization is likely below normal for this time of year due to all of the cancelled elective stuff.

230 Two contested slates of electors has happened previously in the 1877 election (and I believe other times in a particular state)--thus, if the state legislature so desires, it can choose an alternative slate, no slate, or even submit both slates and let Congress decide. VP Pence has the duty of opening the E.V.'s and can decide which slate to recognize, if any. The stupidity of the MI State Troopers and SOS/AG/GOV in that state is that the law merely specifies that the electors meet at the Capitol today--not where. If MI legislature selects to allow both slates to go forward, the executive has no role in preventing it.

Ostensibly, the idea is that it preserves PDT's court claims post Dec. 18th and prevents courts from declaring electoral disputes moot. May also reach the standing issue that cause Scotus to shoot down the Texas lawsuit.

Michael Malice did a podcast recently, with Douglas Murray. Now, these two are probably very much alike in many ways, but Malice has a sneaky, almost juvenile sense of humor, and I don't think Murray knows what humor is.

If you told him the "Why'd the golfer wear two pairs of pants joke," you might have to explain to him the juxtaposition of the phrase "hole in one."

So Malice made some snide comment about Air Pinochet, and Murray got this stern look on his face, and said something about how he's not comfortable with that kind of talk.

The look on Malice's face, it was like having a parent slap a 3 year old's hand for trying to touch the cookie jar.

it's not exactly "loop holes," it's just how our entire tax system is structured. I'm not sure how you fix it.

If the billionaires plane and yachts are owned by a company or non profit he controls, he's not paying himself any income to cover the costs of those "business expenses." And the company likely doesn't have a lot of "income" either, it's mostly just sitting on assets (cash, stock, rental property, whatever).

358 My immediate reaction is to take these people, put them through a wood-chipper, mix the slurry with line, and bury them under a new freeway.
But that's not how the Bible says to treat them. We're supposed to love the sinner and hate the sin. Even as they're literally murdering tens of thousands of our families, friends, neighbors, and fellow Americans. But the Bible says that if we hate other people--even these low-down dirty skunks--we're really saying we hate God.
And if we judge them, we're saying we want to replace God's perfect judgement with our own.

That's a difficult path to follow; but we know they will be judged according to all their evil deeds unless they repent. I hope I'm tough enough. I pray God will melt MY heart of stone and let me feel compassion for them.

So someone send them a Chick or Four Spiritual Laws tract. And let's all of us humble our own hearts, pray for forgiveness, and beg God for revival in America so some more will be saved from what's ahead for sinners...

You can't trust nurses. A lot of the time they don't know what they're talking about, and you can't tell them anything contrary to what they already believe.

I have to deal with this all the time, and this Covid nonsense in particular. Someone here is saying all these patients are dying of the Covids.

No. They're not. This patient who is SUPPOSED to be seen face to face, is NOT being seen, because this nurse is convinced he has the Covids.

I don't like the "no exceptions" bit. I like the idea of a consumption (sales) tax, but only on new goods and services. If it's a used good, the tax has already been paid.

Other bonus (and why it will never happen): it is hard, but it lets you opt out and withdraw support from the system.

But even when I owned a house and had a mortgage, my interest rates on said mortgage were very low and my income wasn't crazy high, so like -- I don't know, it wasn't a big deal on my taxes.

True in an era of 3% mortgages it's not that big of a deal. And most people don't itemize anyway. Only about 30% of tax filers itemize. But it's been ingrained in people's minds that without it the world will end. A lot of that is marketing by the real estate industry.

Why do you think there's the withholding system? If people had to cut a check for 20%-50% of their income every April, no one would be able to pay and the rage would lead to a general strike in all probability (though, of course, without withholding the tax rates would not be nearly so high).

It only works at all because they hide it by taking it first and making it just a "fact of life."

a govt entity could - with a straight face - say over 23 years of

------------

To be clear, it is the improvements that depreciate. Land is not depreciable.

And there are plenty of places where land is worth less 23 later.

I can't stand her voice. There's an affected way female pop stars sing these days, I think she sorta started it. All from the diaphragm, belting it out, while going up and down the scale.

It's like listening to a chain saw.

I much prefer proper singing from the diaphragm, rather than that nasal, from the throat singing that Sheryl Crow, Springsteen et al use.

The problem with that modern singing you're describing is that they all want to be Marvin Gaye singing the National Anthem at the NBA finals. HE could get away with it because he was awesome.

Even worse than that. By design HR systems withhold more than they should. So most people get a refund. And a good % of those people think that means they paid no taxes. Even as people are raped by the IRS they're happy to get a $2K check every April that they think is some bonus from the government.

The question is whether Trump and his people were making such plans over the summer. Note I was certainly screaming about this - the results of the election were likely to be less important then who controls the loyalty of the military afterwards....
