This is Moses. Yes, that is a bobcat.

He was found by a couple as a newborn cub next to a stream after a rainstorm. (hence the name Moses)

Thru a series of miscues, he was unable to be reunited with his mother. By the time the people who found him got him to a rehabber, they had kept and treated him like a kitten for two months.

I was only able to claim him for about six months while we rehabbed him.

He is at a big cat rescue, called Insync Exotics. The second picture is from about two years ago, which makes him 14 yrs old.

I would gladly have kept him if possible. - aka rickb223

First of all Rickb223, nice to meet you and Moses. Secondly what a gorgeous animal and a happy ending which could have turned out quite differently. Thanks so much for sharing Moses' story with us today.

Hi Mis Hum! Two pictures for you if you have room. The top one is Peluche, my beautiful blue-point Ragdoll. She absolutely loved being outside in her little balcony garden. When I’d get home from work, she would run to the patio door to go outside no matter how cold. When I got laid off from my job, I began preparing my move back to North Carolina. During my search for a new apartment, I had one absolute must- it had to have a nice balcony for Peluche and her garden. I found a perfect place with an 18 X 10 balcony. Sadly, six days before the movers came to haul me away, she passed away without warning in the wee hours of the morning. One minute she was happily playing among the wrapping papers, sitting in my suitcases and then…she was gone at just 11 years. It absolutely broke my heart, and that balcony in the new apartment was a constant reminder of her absence.

The second picture is of Coco, my newest ball of fur. She is a chocolate-point Ragdoll who is not as adventurous when it comes to the great outdoors, but she loves looking out the big picture window at the birds and squirrels that visit. As you can imagine, I am hooked on ragdolls. They are a wonderful breed. There’s no such thing as a stranger in their world and they crave human interaction. They’re also great with other animals. Thanks so much for the Pet Thread- it’s my weekly must-read! - Moonbeam

My first observation was what lovely flowers and plants you had there. Second observation was the kitteh appeared to be quite happy there. We are so sorry to hear of her passing. What a shock. Looks like you have your hands full with a cute successor.

I've shared Zuko with everyone once before, when he was an recently adopted rescue weighing just 30lbs. Here he is, 2 years later, at 48 lbs and looking much better. In his "Surveying my domain" mode. And, of course, he is the best dog. I'm a longtime lurker have been reading Ace since the beginning, never miss the pet thread. - Roger

Zuko certainly appears to be a regal dude. Surveying his domain and eating well in the neighborhood. Thanks for the update and sharing this latest with us.

So sorry to hear about your pal's demise. She appears to have been a cat with great taste. Thanks for coming out of the shadows and sharing with us today.

Hello MisHum,

Quite a few of the Texas attendees found it humorous the I have a cat and not a dog. Attached is a picture of my cat Michelle. She was found underneath a house being built where I was then working at.......20 years ago (when I was at the tender age of 9) Lil WDS named her Michelle because his best friend at the time was Michael. She has also been known by many other names....bicchecleta (Italian for bicycle, but fits), cat, puuckýmcpherson, shi**ymcpherson and others.

She has been a joy although not always pleasant. However, at 20 she has a tumor that is affecting her eye and comfort. Trying to set aside my selfishness, we will be giving her final comfort this coming week.

The picture is from 2015 when we remodeled our main level. She was not happy!

Thank you so much for letting me share. And thank you for all you do for AOS.

Kindest regards,

WDS 11/12/20

PS 11/16 Hi Mis Hum, We lost her at 3:45 this morning. WDS

Well Westminster Dog Show does lead one to believe you are a dog person. If looks could injure or maim Michelle had it. So sorry to hear of her passing.

Tilda the Pit Bull at 1 year. Here’s a pic of our happy dog.

Thanks,

P. Aaron

She appears to fit in well and does look like a happy and satisfied puppeh. Tilda looks like she is the life of the party. We appreciate your contribution.

----------

No, the property is surrounded by six-foot welded wire fence. The biggest intruders we've seen have been cats and a possum.

Most of the time the dogs are in the kennel and have outdoor access to fenced runs of good size.

18 They have Gary on gabapentin and prednisone twice a day. He still has a few good days but gets too winded to run. I can tell it's causing him some pain when the meds wear off. Trying to give him a few more trips to the woods and more chicken nuggets. He doesn't care much for the car rides but he enjoys it when he gets there.

The other old dog, Loretta, was frisky and all over the place yesterday. Today we are back to her legs going out from under her. It's really hard to see them failing.

28 Bandit, our Great Pyrenees mix, had surgery last Friday for a rather large mass which had developed around her left upper shoulder. We were prepared for terrible news - she is 12, and GPs are apparently prone to level sarcoma in later life (avg lifespan is 10-11 years).

Got a call from the vet yesterday - the 1-lb mass, which LOOKED pretty bad when they removed it, is BENIGN!!!

Got some pretty happy folks at our house. This is the dog that our late daughter handpicked all those years ago, so when she finally leaves us, it's going to be extra hard.

49 Cookie is dying. Here's her story. (At length.)

My cousin adopted a short-hair tuxedo kitten and named her Cookie.

Cookie was shy around most folks, but snuggly once she got to know you. She was an active kit; liked to jump off the dresser and sit on top of an open door.

Time passed. My cousin died, and her daughter took Cookie in. Young Cousin (same age as Daughter) is a great kid, but sometimes poor in judgment: she went away on a lark and left Cookie to the janitor to take care of. Ungood. Irregularly fed and overflowing litter box. Basically abandoned.

So, our daughter catnapped rescued Cookie. When young cousin returned from her lark, she accepted the change.

Son tried taking Cookie in for a bit, but his cat and Cookie didn't get along very well. (More on his cat one of these weeks.) So, Daughter dumped her cat-allergic jerk boyfriend, paid the pet deposit fee, and took Cookie into her apartment.

Time passed; Daughter married (a great guy). In their merged household, Cookie, who all her life (except for a short while with Son) had been an only pet, joined Son-in-Law's two rambunctious young dogs. They all got along well. (More on these fun dogs one of these weeks.)

If you read, several weeks ago, about our finding two kittens, you may remember that our three cats were not friendly to the tykes, but the little kits fit in delightfully well with Daughter's menagerie. One of the dogs became the kittens' surrogate mama. Cookie even eventually warmed to the kittens, but they did compete for food, and litter box, and liked playing with Cookie's tail more than Cookie liked them doing it. (Update on the kittens one of these weeks.)

Cookie began to hit Old. Mostly blind. Lost weight, but diet changes helped. However, in the past few weeks, she's begun to fade. Now not using the catbox. Or lying in her own excrement necessitating regular baths. Seemingly in some pain.

This morning, Daughter made an appointment with the vet for Monday. At this point, it would probably be a mercy if Cookie didn't last that long.

Cookie -- a really nice cat, and many hearts, human and critter, will ache when she is gone.

Pictures from this morning of one of the kittens consoling Cookie.

90 IMy 6 year old TomCat is recovering from pneumonia. He had me scared for a couple of days. He wasn't eating or drinking but a visit to the vet and some antibiotic has fixed him up pretty good.

I can relate to four legged friends passing. Their lives are so much shorter when compared to ours so I think the temporary hurt can be strong. IWho doesn't go through some hurt when a beloved critter passes?

I always end up getting another soon. I tink my lost friends want it that way. There is always another kitteh or puppeh in need of a who-min.

113 Afternoon, folk,

The Ragdolls are beautiful cats! "Peluche . . . Sadly, six days before the movers came to haul me away, she passed away without warning in the wee hours of the morning. One minute she was happily playing among the wrapping papers, sitting in my suitcases and then she was gone at just 11 years."

Condolences. That always leaves a hole in your heart. Linda's rescue Siberian, Angelique (ironically named as she was not always angelic), passed away suddenly overnight at just about that age -- almost 10 years to the day after she found me in a parking lot and jumped into my car. I've lost others, of course, but never so swiftly.

I adopted my late tuxedo longhair, Oreo, in 2002. The lady at the cat show * said she was 5. The vet I took her to said she was older than that, and she lived until 2008, so she might have made 12 or more. She'd been loved by somebody before she came to me.

(* She wasn't a purebred, a Persian mix, but the Maine Coon breeder had fostered her when Oreo's previous human passed away.)

That's a gorgeous bobcat. Are they able to live with people or are they always on the verge of reverting to being wild? Usually big cats are owned by women who wear sunglasses a lot because they "walked into a door" and otherwise make outstanding life choices.

I saw a bobcat in a park outside Santa Cruz. It was standing over a dead pigeon with a don't fuck with me look.

Now you know why I toted my late Maine Coon mix Arizona's ashes up into the CO mountains to sprinkle them among the bobcats. I think he always believed he should have been one.

156 I know just how bad that bed would be. We had roll out drawers under our bed with spare sheets, comforters, ect in it, and not long after we got our dog he decided that under there made a better bed than the 5 lying around the house. He'd be under there and his little stumpy tail would make it sound like he was building an extension to the house under the bed all night.

157 Last I knew Chavez was in hospice, haven't heard anything about him passing away. My comment the other day was just to let people know he was in hospice.
Sorry to hear of those who've lost their animal friends. WDS, you had a good long run of it with Michelle, 20 years wow.
Slap, glad to hear you got a dog. When you feel like it give me a holler someday it's been a long time.

92 To clear things up, I have placed a call to Chavez and got the message service. I also talked to Farmer and he reiterates that the last he had heard, Chavez was in Hospice.
