The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

I have no way of knowing whether the reddit 4chan post screen-capped below is from an actual Biden campaign worker or some rando troll having a bit of fun. But I have to wonder if there are any Democrats sitting around the table looking at each other and asking themselves "Joe Biden? With all of the candidates we had, how in the hell did we end up with this senile, hair-sniffing half-wit?" Not that I'm laughing. OK, maybe I am laughing, but I know what they're feeling.

Because I was around for the 1996 election. Remember who the GOP standard-bearer was back in '96? Bob. Frickin'. Dole. And I ask myself the same question: how did we get stuck with him? Not that he was a senile, hair-sniffing half-wit, and he didn't have a crack smokin' stripper-bangin' offspring in bed with the Chi-coms. And unlike Joe Biden, Bob Dole was an honest man as politicians go, but saints above, he was about as inspiring as a load of fill dirt. His only reason for running for president was that he evidently believed, now that Reagan and Papa Bush were out of the picture, it was his turn now.

For his entire career, Dole was one of the "go along to get along" RINOs, of which there are many in Washington DC. He tried to rebrand himself as some sort of a conservative, but it was obvious his heart really wasn't in it. In retrospect, his inevitable defeat was probably for the best. In '96, Clinton pretty much owned national politics, and he would have shredded any candidate the Republicans ran against him. So, all in all, I think it was a good thing that we fired off one of our dud rounds instead of wasting somebody good in a futile pursuit of an unattainable goal.

So how do we, and I mean either party, get stuck with candidates that are such obvious duds? And I think the answer is that we choose them as we do juries.

In the jury selection process, a number of potential jurors are ushered into a courtroom where they are examined by both the prosecution and defense lawyers. Each side has a set number of challenges where they can toss somebody just because they don't like his hair. That is, they don't have to have a legally defensible reason. So after tossing out as many of the jurors in the pool they don't like as they can, they then decide if there are jurors they can dismiss for an actual cause. Like one time when I was chosen for a jury pool, there was some guy in the same group with me whose butter had slipped off his noodles some time ago and he was having a spirited conversation with himself before being called upon to answer a few questions, whereupon he launched into an impassioned speech in favor of frequent use of the death penalty (it was a murder trial), so the judge stopped him, called both lawyers and the potential juror for a meeting "in chambers". And after a few minutes, the judges and lawyers came back without the crazy guy, who had undoubtedly been ushered out a side exit, and I assumed all sides agreed that he was unsuitable for jury service.

After the rooting out process is complete, the 12 people who are in front of the line become the actual jury. So juries aren't actually selected, it's just that all of the other people are discarded and what's left is who you get stuck with.

Our primary system works sort of the same way. The candidates that fewer people want at any given time fall by the wayside and the last man standing is the last man standing. Trump and Biden weren't chosen because they were everybody's favorites, it's just that all of other candidates were disliked more.

So I would like to think that the reddit 4chan post from the Biden campaign worker is real. There just has to be some buyers' remorse going on among some Democrats right now. Maybe not very many, maybe not enough to get them to vote for Trump but maybe they'll look at Biden's cognitive decline and think "you know, I hate Trump, but I just can't vote for a dementia patient."

Maybe.

You actually care about the characters, as you did with King's novel, and the story follows the novel much more closely.

Plus! It was filmed at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO. That was the hotel where King and his wife stayed on their first vacation after he'd hit big with Carrie and Salem's Lot. The hotel inspired him to come up with The Shining.

81 So Biden's going down. He was the last of the elder statesmen in the Democrat Party.

If things break Trump's way like I think they're going to, we're looking at an already depleted bench for the Dems get even smaller.

Who, realistically, is there to run in 2024? I only see two names: Andrew Cuomo and Gavin Newsom.

Their coalition of america hating, baby eating, marx loving, industry killing, jesus mocking loons are not going to stand for a moderate.

The Dems were blown out in 1980, 1984, and 1988. They ran an incumbent President, an elder statesman, and a young buck, and all of them were spanked.

The only way they won (thanks to a big Ross Perot assist and a recession) was with a guy who ran as a moderate.

The Democrats today can not run a moderate. They don't even have moderates any more. Tulsi Gabbard isn't a moderate; she's just a more normal liberal loon. The rest, to the left of her, are just even more crazy and are in charge of the party.

You could be at a party or a concert and he'd get drunk and start talking about healthcare or some other boring shit nobody wanted to talk about when they were enjoying themselves.

108 Speaking of Reddit....

They announced today that they will pay their employees SF/NYC salaries regardless of where they live. It's kind of a big deal because a lot of tech companies were talking about salary cuts for people who move to flyover country now that they can WFH due to the 'Rona. And since SV is the biggest copycat industry out there, once one of them do something they all will.

This kind of thing will have repercussions politically. Lots of 25-40 year old tech SJWs will continue moving to your small city/town, while swinging big dick $200K salaries and voting straight D. I know several people who have moved to my neck of the woods recently who fall into that category. One of the reasons real estate prices are skyrocketing. Which I like as I own a bunch of real estate, but not too happy with the inevitable turn to the left that's coming. In a small area, all it takes is a few hundred new voters to swing local elections.

Biden won the nomination for 2 reasons: His name recognition and the fiction that he was a moderate.

The Democratic candidate in 2024 still has to win Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, South Carolina, and Tennessee to win the nomination.

Newsome will drop out early, if not before voting begins. California politicians cannot replicate their success in the state across the nation because they're generally really bad politicians because they came up in a single party state where there was no real competition and it's all about knowing the right people.

Cuomo is a maybe. He could make it, but he'll be wide open to attack on covid and his state is beginning to look like a loser to the rest of the country, so his cache will be limited.

I don't know who it could be, but I'll put it out there now that it's definitely not going to be Newsome.

156 Hmmmm. I've been starting to think that our candidates are chosen for us. The electorate doesn't have much of a say.

I think it became clear in the 2008 campaign. Nobody in our caucus favored McCain; in fact, even the media acknowledged that McCain was always sticking his thumb in the eye of his base. He was actually hated by regular Republicans because he was regularly selling us out.

Clinton seemed to have the most momentum among Democrats and then it just felt like she was pushed aside for Obama. I don't recall exactly what made me think it wasn't organic.

So the Deep State puts on an act of letting us select our candidates and we think the reason we end up with duds is because that's what the rest of our party prefers. But I think there's a lot of control coming from the Deep State.

The challenge will be anyone that the media doesn't already love or is predisposed to love getting any traction because the media will view 2024 as 2020 again.

"Trump was an aberration, and fluke, and we're past him now. Republicans are unpopular and we'll beat them with anyone, so we need the most radical person imaginable in order to enforce change as quickly as possible."

They did that this year, but Joe Biden, supposed moderate, still won. It was partially due to his name recognition, but a large part to his supposed moderation.

Every person the media tried to prop up got the "real moderate" treatment from the press, and they all failed.

167 Sooo, I just noticed the NV SoS is counting all mail ballots received, but you have to go to another page to get the ones actually accepted for counting.

There are 28k ballots in Clark County that have not been accepted; 13k are D ballots.
There's the "fraud" ace they're holding.

With that correction, applying the 2016 split of independent votes, Dems lead is down to 11.5k.
10% of the total early vote will come in today.

Dems lead mail-in by 113k
Rs lead early by 73k

Trend: R lost the 1st day of early, then went from 2k lead per day to near 4k lead per day now. Rs will bank around 12k more of a lead from Thurs/Fri.

NV will be tied on Election Day; 1/3 of the total vote will be cast then. Where Dems turned in barely 4k more ballots than R.

Unless independents break for Biden, or Trump gets less than the 50% he got in 2016, Trump wins NV.

Should we be worried?

I don't necessarily buy into "Texas is going blue" anytime soon, but that Veritas video is chilling that there could be hundreds of thousands of bullshit ballots.

The biggest problem that the Dems have is that their entire top tier is aging out of any competition. Do they try Hillary again? Even she's going to be 77 years old in 2024, and she's much younger than Joe or Bernie or Nancy.

True, but having her seat 'stolen' away by the establishment would make her even more a darling of the radicals.

Maybe it's just me being pessimistic (or is it optimistic?) but I can't see any of 'the squad' being put on the bench. The media and party are just too extreme at this stage.

It would be the stupid sort of thing Democrats would do to hasten along their party split.

I buy partially into the theory that this year is about burning the radicals.

With Biden having gone all in on the Green New Deal and transgenderism and then losing, there will be a solid argument to make that this is the fault of the activist left pulling the party leftward, so they will punish the activist left.

They kick anyone like that out of party leadership and gerrymander AOC's district away.

The activist left doesn't take it sitting down and they split off with $100 million in seed money from Tom Steyer to take over the Worker Families Party in New York.

As to how we end up with uninspiring squish duds as presidential nominees (at least on our side) -- and OM's jury pool is a pretty good take:

Since Reagan at least -- whose worst legacy was giving us Papa Bush -- my sense was that Dole, GWB, McCain, and Romney were all decided for us by the ruling class oligarchy (including the media cabal) in a literal smoke-filled backroom. Win or lose, they were beholden more to their masters than their constituents.

Until Trump came along and dared to give them the middle finger AND win -- which is why they hate him so much and the resulting backlash that continues (even inside his administration) to this day.

I don't know about that...

Regardless of what Romney has become now, in 2012, he and Paul Ryan were the obvious choices, they said all the right things, ticked all of the right boxes, etc.

The GOP base selected those two putzes not the media.

Just like the base selected McCain/Palin and Dole/Kemp.

Media had very little to do with it.

On the Donk side, they straight up rig their primaries.

If I was Donk voter I would have personally chosen Yang and Gabbard, as many of my Donk friends said they did.

So the GOP base chooses their candidates, and Donk base gets their candidates chosen for them.

Shibumi, Biden's economic plan reduces the financial circumstances of the people supporting them. What if the mortgage-paying roommate loses their job? What if so many people go on welfare that everyone's portion has to be cut?

The prosperity that Trump's policies bring helps insure that we all have more to share with those in unfortunate circumstances. Plus, he's good for the mental health of the whole country with his sunny optimism.

278 Just tell them: "Look, you're losers. So go ahead and vote for Biden, because that's what losers do."

LOL. That's why I haven't heard from either one of them for a few weeks. They're afraid I'm going to Talk To Them About Trump.

I do think that at some point, the one with the sugar Daddy (male roommate who is paying all of her bills and NOT sleeping with her) might be reachable. She is not a fan of the SJW stuff, and might flip based on that.

But she LOVES the mask, so yeah, it's all a waste of time.

Well, the roommate inherited a quarter of a million dollars and is on social security/ retirement. So they believe he will never run out of money. As for cutting welfare, they believe it will NEVER happen; the government "always has hidden money." Or so I was told. Also.. .we can just print money.

352 I can't think of a coherent argument for Trump, but maybe someone in the horde can?

----> at the end of the day, Trump put forward a very energetic issues based first term to handle issues to one solve issues that he believed were hurting America and two to further create policies that help America.

1. Pax Trumpicana. No new wars, fighting with CIA and DOD to end foreign entanglements WHILE actually micro-fighting the global war on terror, including ending ISIS and castrating Iran.

2. Pax Trumpicana part II. Extensive peacework efforts and results with Norks, Israel, Kosovo and so on.

3. Pax Trumpicana part III. New better trade deals with china deal and USMCA and exiting bad deals including Iran deal (which ultimately had goal of nuclear armed Iranian hegemony in Middle East. bad) and the Paris Accords which fucked USA in the ass.

4. Fixing the VA. trump very proud of this.

5. The Gilded Age of Trumpism. Trump's economic policies and deregulation push gave massive jobs and wealth.

6. Educational Reform. Devos pushing back against college censorship and the teacher unions destroying our kids' souls. big uphill battle, one GOP never even tried.

7. Immigration. Big enforcement, fought many court battles, the wall, ending H1B abuse, stuff the GOP never even tried to deliver.

8. the courts, it seems like he did ok there with 300 seats including 3 SCOTUS picks.

9. The Vid. I submit he did great despite hysterical democrat politicization of every step of the battle against The Vid. more later.

10. Criminal Justice reform, if letting folks out of jail is your thing.

372 I don't know who else was getting down into the numbers, but the main reason that it wasn't a MUCH closer race between Dole and Clinton in '96 was H. Ross Perot.
Clinton was muchly disliked after his attempted takeover of the health care industry (at Hillary's urging), which caused the largest shift in power in the House - costing the then-Speaker of the House his seat, along with at least 50 other Democrats - in the '94 midterms, and Dole tried to play on that, but couldn't get the portion of the populace who wanted something other than sameolsameol in DC, which caused Perot to steal away enough votes to cost Papa Bush his own Oval Office seat in '92, and he did it again to a lesser degree in '96. (Remember that Clinton never gained a popular majority in either election.)

383 So, I am cautiously optimistic about the election. But also the early voting returns in Pennsylvania favor Democrats by nearly 1 million right now. (Just over 1.4m D to just over 400k R).

In Florida, they are saying Trump is likely to make up a 250K deficit on election day, and I believe that. But there are fewer voters to make up a much larger deficit in Pennsylvania.

I'm happy for someone to tell me what I am missing though.
Posted by: Boone at October 30, 2020 11:56 AM (Scn9U)

One thing to keep in mind is the fact that about 6mm people will vote in PA this year. So if the Dems get, let's say, 1.5mm votes before election day, that puts them about 1.5mm shy of the number Hillary got (in a losing effort) last time.

That means they would need to double their early vote total with election-day voting just to reach an amount that wasn't enough for Hillary.

To me, it resembles an inverted 1980 election between Reagan and Carter.

In that race, the Republicans flipped over ten senate seats in an era where polling still "worked" that was totally unpredictable and a number of governor's seats, large gains in House seats etc.

What the Dems have done is essentially nationalized the Covid 19 debate by making it the focal point of their campaigns which means that Dem governor's actions now become nationalized fodder. So, even the low info voter has a pretty good idea that lockdowns, limits on eating, drinking, etc. , shutting down small business, and so on, is the national model of Dem. Covid care. It is a model of hopelessness where Biden promises a Dark Winter.

Trump, on the other hand, has triangulated (Clintonian that) by using actions that undercut any words of support for the health care COVID smothering techniques. Witness the mask--not wearing one very often, flouting crowd control measures via the peaceful protest exception created for BLM, and achieving the status of personally beating Covid along with his wife and child despite age and weight. Trump always accentuates action and positivism (some call it bragging).

And now Trump has multiple accomplishments to call his own,
best economy in generations prior to Covid, peacemaking throughout the world, cheap energy, reducing China's influence, and so on. IN other words, Trump has people who wish for the good ole days prior to Covid as Biden's promise is the opposite--high energy, high taxes, covid shutdowns, high unemployment, and so on.

Light v. Dark---we may be witness to something quite amazing and rare in politics on Nov. 3rd--a realigning election.

and he decided the only way to get out of them was to become President

then a few key people found out about them too

Pelosi , Clyburn etal would own a President Biden

From The Federalist:
https://tinyurl.com/yyw3qdod

Trump supported same-sex civil unions back in a 2000 interview with The Advocate when most politicians in both political parties opposed them. He was one of the first club owners in the 1980s to allow openly gay people entry, then a violation of Florida law due to public panic over the AIDS crisis. He's been friends with Elton John and numerous other openly gay celebrities throughout his entire life. Before being gay was considered "cool," Trump already seemed cool with it.

If they won't listen to that, then the question isn't "how do I reason with them" but "how do I reason people out of an opinion that they didn't reason themselves into" and the answer is: 2' of rubber hose.

I think in 2024 the Dems will try to steal the Trump playbook and nominate a "colorful outsider." It will be a Mark Cuban or equivalent, trying to capture that Trump lightning-in-a-bottle vibe. They know they have no bench, so they're going to have to bring in a free agent.

Sorry, just saw this, with which I agree 100%.

Newsom, much like Whitmer and Cuomo, has blotted his copybook on Covid. I hope that that's enough to torpedo his Presidential ambitions.

OTOH, he has good hair, and with the 19th Amendment ...

Unless Biden wins and pushes through a $2 Trillion bailout for California alone, California is headed for a 4 year economic nosedive, no matter what happens in the rest of the country. Newsom will be completely discredited after 4 years of that.

My one jury service was deadlocking a "he said she said" trial with zero witnesses and no evidence. Deeply incompetent prosecutor.

Now, if a person is prosecuted for punching an Antifa rioter, well, I will appear to be an easily manipulated lump of putty. Then hang the jury after transforming into a Trump minion.

Personal note: Juries usually end up with weak minded proles and sometimes a citizen gets trapped. Sad.

429 417, Tom Servo,
I was in Washington at the Carter victory celebration (was invited by a friend). It was the most astonishing thing that I have ever witnessed in person as the wave of Republican victories marched across the screen. The crowd got quieter, and quieter, and then was an eyewitness to Carter's 9:30 EST concession speech that permanently pissed off the West Coast Dems as polls were still open on the West Coast.

So, being young and all, we went across town to the Republican bash and it was smoking and fun.

Washington was a very different place then.

430 My friend is basically the epitome of a low information voter. Basically she hates politics, doesn't pay attention to anything but what the media tells her but still votes. Anyway, the other night as I was watching Tucker she walks in and says "of all the people in America all they could come up with is blumpf and Biden unbelievable". I'd say there's many such cases and these are the democrat voters. There's no way she's voting this year.

432 "So how do we, and I mean either party, get stuck with candidates that are such obvious duds?"

That reminds me how I felt after watching the first debate in 2008.
The question was asked how the candidates would "fix" the economy. They all had an answer, involving active programs, and spending money, and doing stuff. And all I could think was how are they supposed to be fiscal conservatives when they have such plans to interfere with the economy. They should be promising to do nothing. At best, they should promise to have government do less. And yet they all had plans, and everyone was thrilled to hear there.

The "curious" thing of course is that in 2016, that is precisely what Trump promised to do to "fix" the economy. And, after getting elected and until the WuFlu, precisely what was working. Indeed, even now in the face of Democratic opposition and with the WuFlu it is working.

Polk is unsung, but he was a very effective President. He pledged to serve only one term and kept his promise. In four years he secured the Northwest and the Southwest and made us the continental power that we are.
Despite all the breast-beating, then and now, about how evil we were to the Mexicans and Indians, we're not giving those territories back. Almost no one, even on the left would be foolish enough to advocate such.

I envision all the bottom feeders that came with him and lasted less than a week i the National stage.
