I go back and forth on the "shy" Trump supporters. I think its a lot of suburban white women.
I also think a lot of people that are more likely to support Trump exclude themselves from polling altogether. So you always have a bad sample.
I even have a friend that's hard core pro-Trump and he said he likes to tell pollsters he's supporting Biden just to fuck with them. I honestly think that's a bad idea just because I want the appearance of popular support.
I also STRONGLY suspect nearly ALL undecided voters are just Trump supporters.

Suburban DC is very, very liberal, and is seriously masky. People were scared to put the kids back in school, and the teachers unions have been busy publicly announcing that they should not come back until there is a vaccine "widely available."
Suddenly, out of nowhere, all of the DC area school districts are saying we need to get the kids in school. I believe this is because of demand from the parents.
Lib parents are saying, hey, I am not putting up with this anymore. And Biden is out there selling masks today, masks tomorrow, masks forever.

I'm in a sorta purplish area in a very red state. We have a lot of very vocal, low information terrified of COVID-19 keep my babies safe folks around here, but mostly the school districts are on thin ice with very pissed off parents (e.g., closing schools for safety for half-weeks only to shuffle the kids into learning pods that increase exposure). It's a great place to live, but jobs are hard to come by, and these policies are making it hard for parents who are trying to get ahead / not live on government assistance do so.

It's based on registered party affiliation and historical early-vs-election-day turnout, as far as I know. The party affiliation stuff is likely mostly valid depending on how it's handicapped (I suspect there are more Dems crossing the line than Repubs), but the historical turnout pieces and what it implies about election day itself are, I suspect, useless.

Well that's the problem. The people who say Trump handled it all wrong don't have any answers for that. The most they can offer is "he should have required masks nationwide" but not only were there not enough masks to go around until the virus was already done with its main surge in the winter and early spring, but they don't work.

There is only one way to "handle" a virus in such a way that it doesn't become a widespread problem: at it's source, at the beginning, if you can detect it. If China had quarantined Wuhan in September or October of last year, then it might have been able to be snuffed out. Maybe.
But if you miss that opportunity, it's game over. It's in the environment and it becomes about management (like the common cold or the flu). We are mismanaging badly, since everything we've done is extremely invasive and none of it appears to be effective. Additionally, several months on and with a much better understanding of how it works and how to treat it and what the risk factors are, there are serious questions as to whether exceptional management is even necessary.

Election year markets usually adjust and correlate that adjustment to size, exposures, averages, etc. In October of 2016, the market (Dow) dropped about 400 points from October 1 to Election Day.
We currently have a lot of ground to go, and with GDP being reported, we will have more adjustments. However, we are only down this year (from October 1) 181 points on the Dow as of right now.

Though she is fine judge and has lived her life in an exemplary manner, I have long maintained that it was wrong for the President to put forth her name mere weeks before a Presidential election.

If you really want to know what is going on, you need to call the county election officials directly in each county. I used to do that in congressional races for years as their numbers guy and I knew the basic win or loss ratio usually within about 30 minutes by knowing votes expected in key precincts and measuring against them.
A bit more complicated this year for sure with the deluge of absentee /mail ballots in a lot of places.

Went and voted early. I'm not a fan of early voting, but, to sound paranoid, I didn't want to wait until some banana-spined politician said because of the dreaded Second Wave it was too dangerous to vote in public.
Not crowded and everything went off smoothly. I made sure I voted for Trump and Cornyn. I thought I'd have the pleasure of voting against the smarmy Democrat running to replace Pete Olson in TX-22 but, to my surprise, I found out I'm actually in TX-14 and Randy Weber is my US representative. He's not running ads, so I expect his opposition is negligible.

Then, you can't just say that Silver knew, you have to PROVE that he knew that lying was going on. Which again, is going to take the kind of informant that only a major sting operation could ever dig up, because otherwise his defense is "Well, I trusted them."

Generally speaking though the national polls are more friendly to the Dems who usually win CA, NY, MA, etc by very large margins vs Reps who tend to win their states by smaller margins.
It would be hard to imagine a scenario where Trump wins the popular vote and NOT the electoral college.

It's all done with weightings - since with stratified random sampling, you don't just count the people you polled, but you weight their votes depending on what you think the underlying demographics of the population are.
