Sure it's been mentioned before, but it's important to recall that Donald J Trump was impeached, ostensibly, based on hearsay "testimony" from a "whistleblower".
Well in Bobulinski's first-hand direct testimony, we have not just inference of influence pedaling, but actual first-hand witness testimony. It will go nowhere. Which is why, if Trump doesn't pull-off another miracle next Tuesday, we're done as a country. Posted by: Doctor.Boom at October 28, 2020 09:51 AM (03Esa) 137

Posted by: Warai-otoko at October 28, 2020 10:03 AM (+3HK+) +++++++++++ The combination of "American Enemy" and "Chewing Gum" makes me think of an anecdote from the Pacific War. A Japanese soldier in the Philippines recounted (after the war, of course), that he knew that the war was unwinnable for Japan when he walked through an area that American GIs had left. He found on the ground a foil gum wrapper and broke down in tears. Not only did the Americans have so much money and power that they could produce and ship niceties like candy to soldiers in a distant theater, but they were so rich and powerful that they could wrap that candy in *metal* - and then discard that metal as trash. That anecdote really hit me. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at October 28, 2020 10:08 AM (hYcqw) 227

233 Anyone here actually planning to stay up for the returns Tuesday night?
I went to bed early-ish in 2016 because I was convinced the Beast would win. It was like Christmas, Fourth of July, and my birfday rolled into one when my husband told me Trump had won. I may hit the bed early again this year. Posted by: Jane D'oh at October 28, 2020 10:09 AM (ptqGC) Jane, I went into my office election night 2016, planning to work all night, instead of going crazy watching the returns. I knew nothing until 3:00 am when the cleaning lady came in to my office and announced Trump won. You could have knocked me over with a feather. Happily so. Soviet jokes were a whole sub-genre of humour. There was a good one in the series 'Chernobyl':
Q: What's as big as a house, burns 20 gallons of fuel per hour, puts out a shit-load of smoke, and cuts an apple into 3 pieces? A: A Soviet machine made to cut an apple into 4 pieces! Posted by: Dr. Mabuse at October 28, 2020 10:06 AM (zFG+C) As you might imagine, jokes were rare in the Third Reich. One I have always liked - though it really comes under the heading of Jewish humor - is this: Two Jews decide they are going to kill Hitler. They read in the Volkischer Beobachter that he will be at a Party rally in Munich on Friday. They buy their guns, take the train to Munich and set themselves at the corner of the street where Der Fuehrer is going to drive by. An hour goes by. No Hitler. Two hours go by. No Hitler! Finally, one Jew turns to the other and says, "Oy, I hope nothing happened to him!" I don't think my heart can take it anymore. My husband thinks Trump is going to lose, and I *still* remember Romney's crushing defeat in 2012, when we all thought he had it in the bag. I think I'll just slink off to bed before anything is decided, and face the music in the morning. Posted by: Dr. Mabuse at October 28, 2020 10:15 AM (zFG+C) I will, but frankly I expect the reporting to be very infuriating. I believe the mail-in voting scheme was in part a big collusion between the Democrat Party and the MSM, so that- The MSM could report an early high number of Biden votes even in the states they know they will lose. And call an early "Biden Wave" in hopes of depressing Trump voters in the west. They won't report any new data until they absolutely have to...probably when CA's polls close. An even then they'll only report the real numbers only when they absolutely have to. Even with a YUGE Trump wave I expect it to be a long night. The MSM has gone all in in completely flushing all credibility and all reason for their existence to support the Democrats. They won't stop just cuz it's election night. Posted by: theATL at October 28, 2020 10:27 AM (3leHG) I'll repeat something I posted in the morning thread: I went to bed last night a bit disturbed about the latest polls from the Dems, wondering if we could be so wrong, are we the ones watching the wrong movie, as Scott Adams puts it? and I concluded that no - what they are doing is NOT any sign of strength, it is a sign of desperation and weakness. Nate Silver has gone full Baghdad Bob because (just like Bob) he's being well paid to do it. They've given up on any actual numbers, in this last week they aren't even trying anymore. They have gone full fake on everything - and I'm not convinced that even they think it will work. He found on the ground a foil gum wrapper and broke down in tears. Early voting thought:
The numbers I'm seeing seem to indicate that both Reps and Dems increased their early voting (as a combination of mail in and in person) at about the same amounts compared to 2016. That seems to indicate that the pattern of Republican dominance of election day will continue this year. There had been fear that Republicans were cannibalizing their assured election day voting base, but with the comparable numbers for both parties, it seems as though that's not the case. Add in the polling results that show far more consistently voting Republicans still out there versus Democrats, and I think the predictions that Republicans will easily win states like FL and NC are probably accurate. The press will try to not call them, but it'll be obvious. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, levelling Metropolis to save it at October 28, 2020 10:41 AM (NWM+b) 465

Posted by: m at October 28, 2020 10:38 AM *** Met a old German guy on my first tour to Germany in the 70's. He spoke great English. We talked once about the war. He said he was captured in July 1944 by the Americans. (Surprising as most Germans never fought the Americans, always the Russians or Brits.). He said he knew the war was lost as he sat there in a holding area watching truck after truck after truck roll by. So many supplies and trucks. He said by that time the German Army was down to nothing. Was kinda bitter about it still. Posted by: Diogenes at October 28, 2020 10:44 AM (axyOa) 480

The left is trying really hard to play the morality card and it looks as bad and hackneyed as you would expect. Even the trolls coming here are trying it.
The latest is an oped in the NYT by Tom Friedman of all people, showing a video of Obama singing "Amazing Grace" miraculously not bursting into flames, and then pleading "I beg you to ask yourselves: How can you tolerate behaviors in a president that you would never tolerate in your kid's seventh-grade teacher or babysitter?" MAYBE if Biden wasn't a corrupt child molester they might have had an easier time but for God's sake, they're awful at this. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at October 28, 2020 11:03 AM (KZzsI) 599

Pro-Tip: If you burn pine, and are concerned about creosote buildup, lay in a little supply of aspen. Every few weeks burn a stove or two full of it. It'll scour most of it out before it becomes a problem.
Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at October 28, 2020 10:58 AM (XJipD) Thank you, YD. I appreciate your advice. I burn pine knots to start the fire. What's on it now is cherry. I have a couple of cords of oak but they need to dry. After last March I am deathly afraid of chimney fires. We don't have aspen in Oklahoma, AFAIK. Wish we did. Really, was there ever a time that the press wasn't fake and biased? It seems to me there was a brief interval where the idea of the Fifth Estate as some noble undertaking became popular in the public mind, but the field has been loaded with hacks and crooks all along. The Woodward & Bernstein Watergate mythology was very influential, and apparently, very false. In the time of Jefferson the press was publishing scurrilous accusations intended ti swing elections. Jefferson both played that game himself and was on the receiving end of it. Walter Duranty didn't put out his lies about the Holodomor/Ukraine in a vacuum. He had enablers all the way up his management chain. Maybe the difference now is that there aren't even a few good ones in the 'professional' organizations.
