The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

Well, looks like Sleepy Joe stepped on his own-- you know, the thing -- at his Pennsylvania rally on Saturday.

Apparently, a bunch of enthusiastic Trump supporters showed up at Biden's Pennsylvania rally on Saturday, and they may have outnumber the Biden supporters, who were a sorry lot. And some of the MAGA guys started heckling Sleepy Joe, which prompted this:

"I'll work as hard for those who don't support me as those who do, including those chumps with the microphone out there."

Yes, that's right, a candidate for the presidency of the United States just called American citizens "chumps".

I get it that nobody likes to be heckled, but Biden could've turned the situation to his advantage by saying something like this:

"You know, what a great country America is that the right to free speech is enshrined in our constitution. And as your president, I will work to protect that right for all Americans, both those that support me and those who don't. Because all Americans are entitled to equal protection under the law."

See, something like that would'be been awesome, and might have won him a few votes. But no, Joe is such a petty, small-minded, thin-skinned runt that all he knows how to do is lash out. At normal Americans. Talk about punching down. Notice that Trump never does this. For all of the caterwauling about Trump being a big meanie, I've never heard him go after normal citizens, even those who would never vote for him. All of his slap fights are with political opponents, or media figures, or celebrities. And he doesn't start them, near as I can tell. He responds to attacks. Meanwhile, there's all sorts of Youtube videos of Joe losing his sh*t when a voter gets up in his face. Isn't defusing these volatile situations gracefully a skill that politicians have to master? It should come with the territory. With 47 years in office, this is a skill Biden should've learned by now.

It's like Hillary calling Trump voters "deplorable". This isn't just a slip, by the way. She actually did this more than once, so it wasn't a mistake. It's what they really think of us; elected office is their right and it is our duty as subjects and commoners to vote for them.

--------------

And, on a completely different subject, from yesterday's book thread:

551 I don't understand any Christian feeling that Trump's character makes him a no-go.
You ain't electing him as your pastor, people.

Posted by: Tammy al-Thor at October 25, 2020 01:35 PM (+Y1q2)

I'm old enough to remember when this sort of thing mattered. 30 years ago, a candidate like Donald Trump, with all of his divorces and his playing the field, would've been a non-starter. But then the Democrats managed to get a president who received sexual favors from an intern in a small room adjacent to the Oval Office. When conservatives objected that this was an indicator of low character and made the man unfit for the presidency, we were told it's only sex, so shut up, you prudes.

And that was when the rules changed.

This is why I laugh when Democrats, many of whom are old enough to remember this, preach sanctimonious lectures about the awfulness of Donald Trump's character. I mean, really, who are the prudes now?

Although his face was hidden by a flight mask. I knew about this, which is why I thought it would be fun to pair him with Ms. Corday. What I didn't know was that she was also in some of his later movies, such as Sudden Impact, Pink Cadillac and The Gauntlet. Not sure if this was coincidence or if Clint knew her and tossed some work her way to pay the bills.

81 This majority staff report tells an important, yet overlooked, story about how the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Office (Special Counsel) secretly sought and received access to the private records of Donald J. Trump's presidential transition team, Trump for America, Inc. They did so despite the terms of a memorandum of understanding between the Trump transition team and the General Services Administration (GSA) -- the executive agency responsible for providing services to both candidates' transition teams -- that those records were the transition team's private property that would not be retained at the conclusion of the transition.
...
Even after the Trump transition team learned about the FBI's secret preservation request, the GSA nevertheless refused to provide the Trump transition team copies of its own records.

Instead, after denying the Trump transition team its basic legal rights to control its own information, including the opportunity to protect privileged or confidential information, the GSA turned those same records over to the Special Counsel without requiring any legal process, such as a subpoena or warrant.

85 You know, Biden's an idiot. But the idea of working hard for all Americans, Left or Right is not to be scorned.

Democrats used to understand that. The old Tammany pol George Washington Plunkitt said that whenever a family in his district lost their apartment to a fire, he was right there with blankets and food, a place to stay and, if needed, jobs. He didn't ask whether they were D or R. "Who can tell how many votes that gets me?"

But when FDR decided that his opponents were no longer the loyal opposition but Nazis and traitors who needed to be beaten into the dust, his filthy party followed right along.

Yes, it's astonishing how mundane the kills are. How tame the violence appears, how simple the "tricks" are, with both the fake jump scares, and the actual emergence of Jason from the shadows.

It may or may not reveal much, but it takes a lot of self-discipline not to let one's poor moral character interfere with all one's actions.

Sturgis lil factory is still there but closed cos COVID

Wilbur no longer there; sold the factory and is now residential apts

Wilbur was acquired by Hershey so Wilbur Buds (incredible! or used to be) are now made by them in their factories.

the town used to smell like chocolate; no longer

but it's a very cute town. it's probably (the actual town) more liberal than West Chester is nowadays tho.

So true. This is what is so grating about David French. He writes as if his personal moral infallibility is on the ballot. It is not. In fact, our choices have been Trump, Clinton, and Biden in the last two elections. In fact, Trump was only a choice because of the nearly uninterrupted streak of losing brought to us by limp-wristed school marms just like David French, not that they'll ever take inventory of their own shortcomings.

103 I don't get why anybody thinks Trump's marital history is somehow more appalling than Biden's.

After all, Biden was screwing Jill when she was married to somebody else (one of Biden's own campaign donors/volunteers). And Biden may have been screwing her while his first wife was still alive. We know that Joe met Jill when his wife Neilia was still alive. We also know he's been no angel since then. Besides lying for decades about when he first met and started screwing Jill, Biden has a long history of coming on to other women during his marriage to Jill, including staffers like Tara Reade, who accused him of sexually assaulting her by putting his hand under her skirt and sticking his fingers in her vag. We know Biden, as VP, enjoyed walking around and swimming naked in front of his female SS agents, and continued this behavior even after he was asked to stop. He's an incredibly low-class, sleazy individual, and the fact that he raised sleazy, drug-addled kids also speaks poorly of Joe Biden compared to Trump, whose kids all seem to be responsible, drug-free individuals.

Do enough small things, and then one day, the big thing that used to be so daunting has been reduced to just another small thing.

124 What really gets me are all the people - including conservatives - that take it is a given that Trumps tweets are the character-reflecting aspect that is turning so many people from office.

I get that as a private citizen running for office, he may have said things that were a little cringeworthy (i.e. Carly Fiorina, Me-Again Kelly), but as President I struggle to find a tweet or public utterance that goes to the level of being unfit for public office. That goes double in the post-Clinton era that OregonMuse is highlighting today.

Trump is not a rule-breaker. He's a rule-follower. As a real-estate developer you're not getting anywhere if you don't follow every rule the Planning and Zoning commissions put out there. As president, whenever a court has told him to stop doing something, he's stopped - whether it's from a Hawaiian Judge, or some other judge.

I understand that the Left and the MSM wants us to believe that Trump is some uncouth Philistine, but the evidence doesn't bear itself out in his actions.

Posted by: OregonMuse at 11:18 AM

Tammy is 100% correct.

I am no biblical scholar, but I remember from my Catholic upbringing all the stories in the Bible about God choosing flawed people to be leaders and help Him lead people on earth.

It was one of things that made me feel good as a kid growing up, that I did not have to be perfect and God did not need me to be perfect for Him to choose me to do good in the world.

So, yeah, I do not understand why any Christian would hold a higher standard for earth's leaders than God would.

That said, this even applies to "electing him as your pastor". President or pastor, a person does not need to be perfect to be a good leader.

America's history is full of flawed leaders, from the Founding Fathers to the heroes at The Alamo, to the heroes of world wars. There are no perfect people.

But there is a difference between a flawed human being and a bad or evil human being. I would never vote for anyone -- pastor or President -- who supports abortion. That is not a mistake or a flaw, that is just plain evil.

155 124--a lot of people seize on a particular aspect of someone's personality to dismiss them or dislike them. Usually it come from some personalized reason why a particular trait is attached to the decision to like or dislike someone.

Mankind is not a rational animal--but rather a rationalizing one. That is particularly true in politics.

The people that are coldly rational are often looked at with suspicion and dislike by others so many of them learn to keep their mouths shut in public.

From the corridors of Washington to the cobblestones of Paris, the coronavirus is roaring back and authorities are ramping up restrictions again. This time around, however, everyone is tired.

Hospital staff world-wide are demoralized after seven months of virus-fighting triage. The wartime rhetoric that world leaders initially used to rally support is gone. Family members who willingly sealed themselves off during spring lockdowns are suddenly finding it hard to resist the urge to reunite.

Yeah, no shit. Because eventually, the real world will punch through cognitive dissonance and people want to live their lives again. Why are things "spiking" again despite all the masks and lockdowns? Could it be because they don't work (it is exactly that, but whatever)? If things are spiking that bad, why aren't there corpses piled up like cord wood in the streets? Could it be that it isn't as deadly as feared?

224 "I don't get why anybody thinks Trump's marital history is somehow more appalling than Biden's.

After all, Biden was screwing Jill when she was married to somebody else (one of Biden's own campaign donors/volunteers)."

Trump's first marriage ended because of his affair with Marla Maples. He has acknowledged that , says he regretted it. Ivana said she could never trust him again and so they divorced. He ended up marrying Maples, who after she had Tiffany, decided she didn't want to be married , didn't want to live in NY, wanted to stay in CA where she was trying to be an actress and SHE filed for divorce, not Trump.

Certainly the affair was not something to be proud of, but someone explain to me how Trump's two divorces, one he caused and one he did not want, are some horrible example of his terrible morals.

And don't start with the porn star BS. That skank's story was made up from day one, along with the slut from Playboy.

I have a friend who is a serious Baptist and libertarian. He has a lot of problems with Trump and I tried to play nice because it's his principles and I respect them, but the one day I had to ask how you could be against Trump who has a past and doesn't pretend it's good, but libertarians are openly pushing for legalized prostitution and drugs.
If you genuinely oppose Trump because of your morals, fine. But you can't jump from that to endorsing a Democrat like Biden and call yourself a Christian.

It doesn't matter if he followed them or not because the rules have no basis in reality.

Mask mandates and lockdowns have no correlation with tested infection rate, hospitalization rate or death rate, even after controlling for time and population. It just doesn't work in the real world, regardless of what any clinical research says (and there are a lot of damn good reasons for that breakdown, but whatever - it's not politically correct).

They have no idea what they're doing is the bottom line. As I've said before, have a friend that works ICU in LA hospital. He was warning of the big crush for months. It never came. In fact, the only covid deaths he really saw were March and April. He himself has said that people that show up there now just aren't that sick, even with comorbidity.

Either it's mutating into a less virulent strain, or we're slowly getting herd immunity (he hesitated to call it that, but said it). The way out of this is to let it run its course. All we're doing is holding off the inevitable. Keep those in most danger out of harm's way.

I seriously can't believe we're looking at a year of this crap coming up on us. And in CA, some are living in abject terror. It must be horrible to live like that. These people are jumping at shadows.

Or those who are likely to die of it already have (in essence, that COVID pulled forward a couple of months' worth of deaths in those with failing health). There are a lot of possibilities. But it isn't reasonable to assume that the extreme measures (lockdowns, masking) have worked. The data at scale doesn't support that conclusion.

306 Mainstream polls are incredibly off.

Biden is floundering.

The top search right after the last debate was 'can I change my vote'.

No one is showing up to Biden rallies and even less are showing up to Obama.

Trump is tied or winning in many key states.

Biden is reeling from the laptop, which is about to get much worse.

The Dems have burned through their voters in early voting but are basically tied with the GOP in early voting, which has never happened before.

The R base historically turns out Election Day.

The Republicans have beaten Dems in so many states on voter registration.

High profile black men are openly supporting Trump while liberal white women are making incredibly racist remarks.

There was a high rally for Trump in Beverly Hills.

Beverly Fucking Hills.

If you can't feel the Trumpmentum at this point, all you gotta do is look.

Our boy is peaking at the perfect time. Biden is self destructing everywhere.

Biden will beat George Bush, but he ain't gonna beat Trump. Even with his incredible voter fraud machine.

Tammy you're not getting this - this stuff HAS been around! that's the point. our own FBI has had it - I saw the image a year ago (of the CC with Malia's name and the coke). But it's connecting a lot of dots, just that one image was kind of like "what's this about."

Look honestly I wish this wasn't all real but I really do think it's looking very real. It's disgusting.

And absolutely the foreign influence part is more important but the age of these girls (and connections to Hunter) can't just be ignored either

364 And that was when the rules changed.

This is why I laugh when Democrats, many of whom are old enough to remember this, preach sanctimonious lectures about the awfulness of Donald Trump's character.

My response to these complaints is simply:

"This is a moot point. In 1999 the Congress explicitly considered the question of whether this kind of behavior is acceptable for a President. Conservatives argued that it was not, but Democrats, including Joe Biden, voted unanimously to declare that this behavior IS acceptable. That's it. We fought the fight, but we lost that battle."

"The question is now settled as a matter law. You won, and now you are angry with me because you got exactly what your side voted for."

Any other time, I'd have been accepting of Biden, as I was Obama. That's what people want, then we've done it to ourselves.

But now? I don't believe he'd win without the fraud we've been seeing demonstrated on a near daily basis. How any intellectually honest person can look at what they've set up in PA as anything but "BAMN". And honestly, they're good with that. They really believe (or at least say they do) that Trump's "voter suppression" must be overcome and this is the only way to do it.

I mean, did anybody here see the video of Kamala outside a polling station with a PA campaigning to people in line? I think in most states, she committed a felony and could be arrested on the spot.

"Oh, she's more than 100 yards away." "Oh, she's really just thanking them for coming out to vote." "Somebody needs to do something since Trump is suppressing the vote - see that huge line? It's all Drumpf's fault!!"

Sadly, I don't think another 4 years of Trump is enough to level the playing field. Unless something huge happens.

I hope the rumors are true. Something so YUGE it realigns DC and the political process for generations to come. But, I'll settle for SMOD.

When conservatives objected that this was an indicator of low character and made the man unfit for the presidency, we were told it's only sex, so shut up, you prudes.

You are right about earlier candidates. If the public had known about JFK's screwing around, there is no way he would have even been elected in MA. The public image of the Kennedys was that they were the all-American family, only cuter and richer than the rest of us.

The drip-drip is to keep the opposition off balance and guessing. Hopefully guessing wrong and putting out an argument that tips their hat.

I said the whole photo thing worried me at the get go, and preferred they not come out, period. Now it seems that what I predicted is happening. We're seeing lots of faked evidence and lots of rumors. Once the media can disprove one, then they'll discount everything else as potentially faked.

To make things worse, a lot of the alt media has jumped on board for clicks. They'll be producing earth shattering nothingburgers over the course of the next few days, obfuscating the real dirt. I hope I'm wrong, but so far that seems to be what's happening.

Right now I'm mostly watching 4chan, since that's where the bleeding edge of Occam's razor lies.

Still rooting for SMOD/Rapture 2020.

HA! What a memory! Haven't found a full copy to view, although I've read the full synopsis. The other night I did catch the 1957 Hammer version of Curse of Frankenstein, with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, and it really is a lot creepier and more brutal than the old Boris Karloff version.

At one point the Monster gets shot through the eye and killed, and buried, and then Dr. Frankenstein sneaks back, digs him up, and puts him back together again.

500 Clinton was really the public acceptance of lots of bad things.

Remember it was a huge deal that Dan Quayle had supposedly bought some weed in college (this was put out by he who shall not be named on this blog).

Huge.

But Clinton got a pass on it by lying - he didn't inhale.

Obama smoked crack and wrote about it in his biography, and nobody blinks an eye.

Correct, it's not. There are a few special effects shots that you can tell the SFX guys were really proud of themselves for pulling it off, there are other scenes where you can see how suddenly some guy just grew about 3 inches across his chest and abdomen, in what appears to be cardboard, bubble wrap and mattress padding.

It's fun to watch them now. I laugh where they didn't intend for me to laugh, and I look for the movie-making techniques.

There's no story, so it's not like anyone has to pay attention to any of that.

Oh, and the bewbssssssss...

503 Given that apparently a lot of Dems attend Trump rallies, reporting that the Ds are up in early voting doesn't necessarily mean that all of them are Biden voters.

In 2016, Google thought that they were being very clever in targeting a get out the vote drive at Hispanics. They discovered to their horror that a significant fraction of the Hispanics they convinced to vote were voting for Trump.

Rush is willing himself to get in front of that mic everyday because he knows how crucial a Trump win is. It's heroic.

Yeah, II is suddenly just a cheap slasher flick. I think I read that Carpenter wanted nothing to do with it, but the studio just paid him too much to walk away.

Well Carpenter makes the films he wants to make, because he thinks they are interesting and fun. That first Halloweed was actually pretty damned good and when Michael got back up off the floor, that was genuinely scary as hell because it was the first time and nothing whatsoever in the entire film before that prepared you for it.

All these places that are blue and having big rallies... I'm guessing some of them drove in from redder places, that's all.

517 I roll my eyes at the entire "Donald Trump is a bad person" foolishness. Yes, he was a womanizer and it cost him marriages but he admits it. It seems that his marriage to Melania has made him reassess his prior life-style. He can wield an acerbic turn-of-phrase but it seems he only responds to attacks. His philosophy is to hit back twice as hard.

He routinely presents an affirmational vision for America. He never disparages random powerless private citizens (as opposed to the "Blue Checkmark" Twitter liars/critics). I find him refreshing; he tells us what he's thinking pretty much unfiltered.

As G.K. Chesterton tells us, insincere people try to substitute solemnity for sincerity. President Trump is sincere but not solemn. I prefer that in a leader.

519 Doc Holliday is such an interesting personality. Not a lot is known about his past. He seems to have had a great love in I think it was Georgia, lost her, and got tuberculosis (Possibly related). He was genuinely a dentist, and came from a wealthy family, it is beleived. Came west to help his lungs in a dry climate, but was so wrecked by his lost love he gave up caring about life and took up heavy, heavy drinking and smoking.

He had a dread reputation but the only people that we know for sure he killed were at the OK Corral. He'd been in a fight or two before but that was his only confirmed kill.

Still people were terrified of him and did not want a fight. He must have given off a strong "I welcome death and will take you with me" vibe

In the movie Stagecoach, there is a Doc Holliday-like character who almost kills the lady to stop her from being captured by Indians. When the same director later did My Darling Clementine he said he wanted to use that actor to play Holliday, but that he felt it would seem too derivative so it ended up with Victor Mature which was horrible casting. Not a great movie really.

Trust in the F.B.I. and the intelligence community, long admired for their integrity and professionalism, has withered with the attacks by both parties, though admittedly my party has been more vocal."

Romney also decried attacks on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration and the free press.

The senator, who was the only Republican to vote to remove President Trump from office earlier this year, said that his nominee will be key to keeping a similar lack of trust from infecting the Supreme Court.

"It's essential that the Supreme Court retain the trust of the nation," Romey said. "That's why Judge Barrett's integrity, wisdom and commitment to the rule of law is so important."
