Twelve Previous Hacks and Illegal Leaks of Confidential Information -- Which Twitter and Facebook Didn't Censor, Because They Were Anti-Trump

If these companies are permitted to stand as they are, America is over.

This is Turnkey Fascism and our own (supposedly) paid-off corporate-owned representatives have enabled it, and continue making excuses for why their supposed devotion to a corporate conception of "libertarianism" requires we go through a hundred year period of actual fascism.

The first step in any fascist takeover is shutting down opposition newspapers and censoring the news -- both of which Twitter is doing right now. Facebook hasn't shut down the Post yet, but it's censored the news.

Here are some of the past hacks and leaks our Tech Overlords had no problem with:

2. President Trump's Tax Returns

Last month, the New York Times published President Trump's personal tax returns, which it illegally obtained. Tax and all financial records are legally protected private information. It is a crime to release them. As accountant Ryan Ellis writes,

It is a federal crime for any federal, state, or local government employee to release a tax return without the consent of the taxpayer. Ditto for tax lawyers, CPAs, enrolled agents, and other tax professionals. Interestingly, it's also illegal to print or publish tax returns or information from them. Section 7213 of the Internal Revenue Code prescribes that each violation here is a felony punishable by $5,000 and/or five years in federal prison, plus the cost of prosecution. Federal employees so convicted are to lose their jobs.

This criminally leaked private information is still available all over Twitter and Facebook.

5. Donald Trump Jr. WikiLeaks Emails
In 2017, corporate media reported that Donald Trump Jr. had received advance warning that WikiLeaks was about to release Hillary Clinton's emails. This was supposedly a smoking gun proving that President Trump and his campaign had coordinated with WikiLeaks to use stolen information to attack Clinton. Except it wasn't true.

It was subsequently found that the date on this email to Trump Jr. had been manipulated. In fact, he had only gotten the information at the same time the rest of the world did, when WikiLeaks publicly released Clinton's emails. There was no smoking gun. It was a false story.

It was suspicious from the beginning, as the initial reporting from MSNBC came from anonymous sources and had to be somehow obtained deceitfully, as Trump Jr. certainly didn't release his private emails. Twitter and Facebook did nothing to impede the spread of this unverifiable, hacked, and private information.

Yashar Ali notes another use of actually hacked emails: Republican donor Elliott Broidy's emails were hacked and leaded to unfriendly media outlets. He was probably hacked by a foreign state -- Qatar -- which opposes us in the Middle East.

The New York Times and WSJ knew these emails were hacked, but published them anyway.

And they're still available on Twitter!

If this is a policy, why is Twitter not enforcing it in Elliot Broidy's favor?

That may expose them to legal liability, even without any "clarification" of s.230.

Nick Short notes that twitter is now lying to you, telling you that a link to the New York Post might be a threat to your computer's security:

BTW, Twitter is down.

I wonder if it's because they've banned and censored so many posts and users that the system is running slow.

29 Willowed, but somewhat relevant because I think it is probably an example of Big Tech fuckery during the election:

I have been spammed a lot this week with GOTV messages, and most of them sail right through with no problems and show up in my messages list. There is one exception, though: GOTV messages that are associated with prior messages from Republicans (or the RNC) that were classified as spam by the system. Every single message from an R candidate or the RNC gets shunted off as spam, and every follow-up GOTV message gets the same treatment.

Out-of-the-blue GOTV messages come right through. I don't know if Android quarantines Democrat or DNC messages and GOTV follow-ups, but I sort of doubt it.

I posted a report FROM THE CDC that the majority of cases of the Wuhan Flu are reported to have come from people who regularly wore masks.

Facebook put a "partly false" overlay on it. Why? Because, they explained, wearing a mask doesn't give you the Chinese Crud.

Well no kidding dipstick nobody said it did. But now people look at the story and think its inaccurate, when all it does is report what the CDC its self says.

I can still read the stories at NYP, and any of hundreds of other websites. They haven't been censored. TwitFace is just refusing to carry content they don't want, same as AoSHQ refuses to carry content it doesn't want. If AoSHQ doesn't run a story by source X, does that mean that AoSHQ is "censoring" X?

Believe me, I _wish_ we lived in a unicorn world where ALL websites would voluntarily allow ALL content, and where every web operator was pure and above-board in their dealings. But I think it's _essential_ that websites have the right to control the content they carry, and I think that asking the government to force unwanted content on unwilling sites is a prescription for perdition.

90 There are rules in play here. The GOPe, which however you want to parse it, is "our" party, does not have the rule book, or, more likely, doesn't like or care about said rules.

Graft, grift, kickbacks, whatever you want to call it is all the Republicans care about. The posturing in the "halls of congress" is just that, posturing.

The key here is a legal one. These platforms are currently protected legally under a certain kind of laws which they are blatantly and repeatedly violating, demonstrating them to be another kind of operation.

Its like an advertising firm that sells tacos and does no actual advertising or design of ads. They claim this so they don't have to follow the rules of food services. That would be a legal violation that has nothing to do with free speech

Yes, the left and Big Tech (BIRM) are doing treachery, because they are! But they're not getting away with it. I know you know it takes a long crawl to get to justice, and there are powerful, monied entities aligned against the change you seek, but we've known that all along.

Gopes have to get the pointy ends of sticks and swords jabbed at them to get them to move. And once Trump wins, that's what needs to come next.

Until then, let the left show who they are. Either the American people fundamentally reject it, or we know how far gone we are. Makes the next step easier. Whichever way it goes.

124 Twitter also won't let me tweet or retweet saying it is over capacity.

My guess is they are working on their censoring upgrade...

10/9/20 Additional steps we're taking ahead of the 2020 US Election
https://tinyurl.com/yyyjuazp

In addition to these prompts, we will now add additional warnings and restrictions on Tweets with a misleading information label from US political figures (including candidates and campaign accounts), US-based accounts with more than 100,000 followers, or that obtain significant engagement. People must tap through a warning to see these Tweets, and then will only be able to Quote Tweet; likes, Retweets and replies will be turned off, and these Tweets won't be algorithmically recommended by Twitter. We expect this will further reduce the visibility of misleading information, and will encourage people to reconsider if they want to amplify these Tweets.

Encouraging more consideration

Beginning October 20 through at least the end of Election week in the US, when we will assess their continued necessity, we will also introduce the following changes globally to Twitter:

First, we will encourage people to add their own commentary prior to amplifying content by prompting them to Quote Tweet instead of Retweet. People who go to Retweet will be brought to the Quote Tweet composer where they'll be encouraged to comment before sending their Tweet. Though this adds some extra friction for those who simply want to Retweet, we hope it will encourage everyone to not only consider why they are amplifying a Tweet, but also increase the likelihood that people add their own thoughts, reactions and perspectives to the conversation. If people don't add anything on the Quote Tweet composer, it will still appear as a Retweet. We will begin testing this change on Twitter.com for some people beginning today.

Second, we will prevent "liked by" and "followed by" recommendations from people you don't follow from showing up in your timeline and won't send notifications for these Tweets. These recommendations can be a helpful way for people to see relevant conversations from outside of their network, but we are removing them because we don't believe the "Like" button provides sufficient, thoughtful consideration prior to amplifying Tweets to people who don't follow the author of the Tweet, or the relevant topic that the Tweet is about. This will likely slow down how quickly Tweets from accounts and topics you don't follow can reach you, which we believe is a worthwhile sacrifice to encourage more thoughtful and explicit amplification.

Respectfully, why that point is Wrong: We are already IN Perdition, the Far Left has absolute control over all Large Scale Social Networking Sites. It is *WORSE* than Government Control, it is Control by a small but very ideological group of billionaires who dedicated to the destruction of the social fabric of this country.

IANAL. Do you mean another kind of operation than AoSHQ? One difference is that they require registration with terms of service. I assume their terms of service allow them to shut down a user at their sole discretion.

The other difference I see is scale. We're mad because we (conservatives) don't control the culture like the #wokesters do. Our footprint is tiny; the footprint of the totalitarians is huge. So we point at them and say "Unfair! Censorship! Monopoly!"

All these websites are just places where random yahoos get together and pool their ignorance publicly. Right now, the biggest watering holes attract the biggest yahoo population. It's not like the phone company, which serves private conversations between voluntary parties. The web watering holes are open for everybody to read; there is no privacy to speak of.

Again, I wish we hadn't lost the culture to the commies so many years ago. Siccing the government to try to fix our corrupt culture is a bad bad idea.

I agree with you. However, calling Twitter "one website" is like calling Exxon a "gas station".

Twitter is a monopoly on, what do you call it, "tweeting" market. There is no competition. Any attempts to come up with an alternate "tweeting" service have been crushed. That crushing is one by and oligopolistic cabal of the Big Tech giants, who have monopolies in their various markets.

Google has a monopoly on internet searching and controls just about all the advertising deriving from it. Facebook is a monopoly on whatever you call the Facebook service.

Been happening for months. MONTHS! And I don't go through Android to do it. It's being tagged/filtered at the ISP level, not the device operating system level. I have to create a whitelist on my remote email account to force the unfiltering.

But this has seemed like (actually been) political targeting by my ISP since the primaries ended. I received unfiltered requests from other fund-raising groups just fine, and their content/formatting is pretty much exactly like the political campaign ads. But GOP-friendly and -directed solicitations have been sent, by default, to the spam folder. I didn't do that. The ISP did that. Proactively.

So, yeah, there's another arena of abuse that's going on.

Do you want to know the biggest reasons I HATE those projections? Because any fool with a pocket calculator can easily show why they are total idiocy!!!

Here's a chart of Daily COVID deaths in the US: (yeah, yeah, comorbidities, but for the sake of argument, lets ignore that issue)

https://covidtracking.com/data/charts/us-daily-deaths

It's easy to see that currently, the smoothed average is running at about 700 per day. Of course, it looks like that is dropping, especially when you look at death rates in the large population states like Texas, Florida, and California. BUT just to be extra cautious, let us assume that this rate - 700 per day - continues unchanged until the end of the year.

700 x 80 days = 59,500 and added with current accepted deaths of 206,000 comes out to a worst case scenario of 265,500 total deaths by the end of the year, based on real world measurements. (it's likely the total will be much lower, since death rates are still falling)

which makes their prediction of 348,00 deaths by the end of the year absolute unscientific horse shit.

The NYT is liable for the content it publishes. So is AoSHQ. Facebook and Twitter, though they act as publishers, are not treated as such. They pretend to be freely accessible platforms, but act as publishers by controlling content distribution. In other words, if they were treated consistently, they would be liable for the material that they published from their content providers.

They should not be allowed to hide from suits against libel for instance, by claiming that they simply allow anyone to put their views on their site. They obviously do not allow anyone to put their views up.

There are three issues.

1. They were granted protection from liability for what is on their platforms because they claim to be platforms and not publishers. Publishers are liable for all slander, etc. Yet they act as publishers.

2. They have become "public space." Just as freedom of speech is guaranteed in public spaces (such as shopping malls) which are privately owned, these platforms are public spaces.

3. They are a quasi-utility. They run on the public owned airwaves and right of ways (for cables) so they are using a license granted by the public and so are subject to regulation. Imagine if the phone company said "hey, we see you are calling Trump voters, so we are going to cut off your phone service" Or the gas company. Or the electric company. Same thing.

The Big Tech oligopoly is at the same point now that John D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, and the rest of the robber barons of the Guilded Age were during the late 19th century and early 20th.

Technology has created a "new thing" that hasn't existed before, and Big Tech are the monopolistic overlords of it.

Hell, J. P. Morgan was so big, controlling almost all the world's finance system that he actually bailed out the US Treasury during the Panic of 1893.

That's how big they were, and that's too big and so that wasn't allowed to stand. Anti-trust laws.

Big Tech is at that same level of power. Not financial or economic, but the control of this new modern information system/market. They are as powerful as J.P Morgan here.

Well Twitter and Facebook have lots of money, connections, lobbyists, etc. Under the existing laws, they shouldn't be able to get away with what they do. In theory, we don't need any additional legislation. It's quite possible that additional legislation wouldn't do us any good, as we'd need either the executive or judicial branches to apply the law.

Conceptually, yes, but it's more likely that the "platform" is merely expanding its own reach, distribution, and profits at your expense. Your web presence is actually helping the platforms more because they profit from every view whereas you only profit on a small portion of visitors who make a purchase.

272 I never understood the appeal of Twitter and that's why I don't use it.

Here's what I get from it. You can make it what you want. If you're a video game junkie, you can follow all the video game companies, top video game players, insiders who get leaks from employees etc. If you're into politics you can follow all of the people who have actual insights and ignore the chuds who just repeat talking points.

You can make it what you want. Also, anytime someone you like and trust links someone else for being insightful and interesting, you can increase your circle. If someone you like suddenly goes off the rails, you can cut them out of your circle.

If you want information about something, it's easy to find it on Twitter. If something happens, there's 5 people who were there who uploaded video. Instead of waiting until the next day to get a poor retelling of the story by a reporter who was there after the fact, you can actually see what happened for yourself.

Posted by: bonhomme at October 15, 2020 05:27 PM (sG4Hj)

273 Twitter presents its self as a public bulliten board, over which they have no control. They don't provide content, they just provide a place where others post content.

But once they started to censor, deplatform, ban, and suppress content by some based solely on political bias or an attempt to promote a candidate... everything changes.

Regarding 1, the protection is intended such that if someone who is out of your control(because you don't control content) puts something on a freely accessible site that the company hosting the site isn't liable for it. Granting that to publishers would effectively declare slander legal, possibly digital piracy and worse things as well. The NYT and other MSM would not have been liable for slander against Sandman for instance.

334 Mark Kelly campaign spokesman apologizes for calling cops 'worthless fucking pigs' - https://go.shr.lc/31cA5f0

T.J. L'Heureux, Kelly's deputy press secretary, posted the message in response to a video that showed Chicago police clashing with protesters over the summer. "You worthless f-ing pigs," wrote L'Heureux on Aug. 17, directing the message to the Chicago Police Department's official Twitter account.

@Chicago_Police you worthless fucking pigs https://t.co/TLnQwAOdbV

- TJ L'Heureux (@tjoselheureux) August 17, 2020

L'Heureux officially joined Kelly's campaign as a spokesperson one week later, on Aug. 24

L'Heureux's Twitter post included a video of Chicago police officers in riot gear seizing open umbrellas from a phalanx of protesters on Aug. 16.

According to the Chicago police superintendent, protesters were using umbrellas to shield their actions from view as they prepared to attack officers. At a previous protest, rioters reportedly hid behind umbrellas while distributing projectiles and pelting police with frozen water bottles, rocks, and pipes.

L'Heureux was a press assistant for Pete Buttigieg's presidential campaign until March. On Aug. 24, he announced on Twitter that he had been hired by Kelly's campaign, writing, "Just thought I'd let you know I'm joining the Communications team for @CaptMarkKelly and am super excited to help turn AZ blue! 71 days until Nov. 3-let's do this #FullSpeedAhead."

Posted by: It's OK

Most sites are not platforms. The difference is if you are open for anyone to post or not. Most sites (like Ace) are controlled by the people in charge. The platforms said that what they were doing is new and different. The lawmakers said "ok, it sounds new and different and we need a new approach to regulate." Then the platforms turned around and acted just like publishers (or editors, or censors, or ccp running dogs,...) and the lawmakers never said "stop."

No, 2 and 3 are old, existing law. No 1. is from late 90s laws regulating internet, etc.
No. 2 refers to a SC case (Pruneyard shopping mall... 1980) and is worth a read.

The most benign method is directing traffic elsewhere, in other words making it hard or near impossible to find an existing website. When they go full throttle, you're unable to have a website.

386 How are they doing that, exactly? Other than by deciding which content they will and will not allow on their OWN sites?

Other than actively pushing for less free speech in statements and supporting candidates who want less... yes. It was always a tacit understanding by every business that dealt with the public that you let people's political viewpoints go unhindered and left the forum open for discussion as long as it was not violent or excessively offensive.

That's why we let commies and nazis and bigots and idiots hold rallies. Because freedom.

Now they've decided that one political perspective must be silenced and ended because they like the other side.

All rights have a limit on their free expression, and that limit is where you cause damage to the rights of others and society as a whole. Those limits must be as lax as possible but to try to wholesale shut down one political perspective simply because its not yours is not acceptable.

...[A]nd what NBC has done here is indefensible. It could easily show this debate and schedule it for later in the evening. It could re-run it later in the evening. It could tape it, delay it, but what they have chosen to do, NBC, is to be conned by Donald Trump, and that is what has really raised the most serious journalistic questions and the reason that so many people who work at NBC and MSNBC are so upset by what NBC has done here, capitulating to Donald Trump's demands that will allow him to cut into Joe Biden's audience, essentially, because MSNBC, CNBC, these cable channels, ABC which is broadcasting Biden, has no similar cable channels. So obviously Trump will get the larger audience. But the real thing is that NBC has capitulated to an absolutely unacceptable demand that serves the interest of one of the two candidates. There is absolutely no defense for this.

You can't even significantly exceed historic vote totals, otherwise you are going to end up with election officials going to jail (already happened in Philly this year).

Since Philly has gotten so good at the cheating game over the years, they have inched up to the maximum level of cheat that they can get away with.

Granting that to publishers would effectively declare slander legal, possibly digital piracy and worse things as well. The NYT and other MSM would not have been liable for slander against Sandman for instance."

Because TwitFace allows posting only by registered users subject to a terms of service contract, doesn't that make them a platform? The contract explicitly allows them to control users' access and content, doesn't it?
Posted by: It's OK To Be gp at October 15, 2020 05:42 PM (qpX6U)

Anything that represents control would effectively make them closer to a publisher, not a platform. A platform has little to no control. You better believe it. See the case of The Federalist website. They had to remove their comment sections because Google pulled advertising because it didn't like what was being said in the comments.

That is the monopolistic power Google has over the online information marketplace of ideas.

It's called "deplatforming". They can do that to anyone now, and they're getting big enough that they are on the verge of being able to deplatform the President of the United States.

Again, around 1900, J. P. Morgan was big enough and controlled enough of the finance system that he could've brought down the US Treasury if he wanted to. He actually bailed them out. The US govt as a going concern was important to his business model of course. But he had the power to destroy the country financially.

George Soros was a piker compared to JP at the height of his power.

And that is the point Big Tech is at in this new "information market".

I don't see how TwitFace "blocks access to or prevents others from establishing or maintaining sites." They may refuse to link to them, and pervert search results to avoid them, but that does not block access nor prevent establishment and maintenance of sites. Not every site has a responsibility to guide users to other sites.

To me, "blocking access" would be DDoS attacks. "Preventing establishment or maintenance of sites" would be bribing domain registrars and dynamiting server farms.

I have been fully aware of the unfolding Biden scandals. Nothing that the Tech Monopoly has done has prevented me from learning all about them as soon as they broke. So I just don't see the "censorship" angle or the 1A angle involved here.

437 Just an observation to pass along. First, I live in now deep blue CO. I often sit out on my front porch on nice afternoons just to watch the world go by. There is a young lady in the condo across the street that stops by to talk from time to time while walking her dog. We've had some interesting conversations. Once, when I told her that I just got my CCP, she told me that she's had one for a while now. That surprised me because being a young single female, I just assumed that she felt that guns were icky.

The other day she stopped by to talk and we got to jawboning about the election coming up. I was not shy about saying that I was voting for Trump, and she floored me with the comment that she would lose a large number of friends if she told them just exactly how she was going to vote for Trump. Appearances are deceiving and I just didn't think that she would be that smart, I guess.

Think of it this way, a guy has a huge blank wall and says anyone can come and stake out a square foot and use it as a bulletin board. Everyone agrees that if someone puts something on their sq ft that is libelous or slanderous you can sue the poster but not the guy that owns the wall-because he is not writing anything, just providing a free space for others.

But the the wall owner starts going around erasing bulletin boards he doesn't like or doesn't agree with and letting his own political allies say whatever they want. That changes the equation. Now he is only providing a space for the one view he agrees with. That implies endorsement and (should) make him liable for damages caused by the people he allows to post on his wall.
