The Democrats have essentially given up on blocking the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. This does not imply, however, that they will fail to turn her hearings into a nasty farce of smears of the nominee as an adherent to a voodoo-like religious devotion, and a passionate seeker of an America with no assisted healthcare and back-alley abortions. The strategy mirrors the malicious fiction then-Senators Joe Biden and Teddy Kennedy threw at Robert Bork in 1987. Barrett, like Bork, is obviously a person of outstanding character and intelligence with impeccable credentials as a law professor and judge. It will not be easy for Democrats to portray such an accomplished and attractive person and personality, who departed for Washington with her husband and family of seven in a minivan, as the slavering primitivist that is their preferred caricature.This is nothing more than the Left's hatred of religion, which is a direct competitor to their own psychotic replacement for God: the socialist/communist/progressive cult. But the additional target of Catholicism is too tempting for them to pass up, and it is simply a confirmation of their own hatred of anyone and anything that does not adhere to their mindless communitarian world view. They will trot out the tired idiocy of dual loyalties to America and the Vatican, and suggest that Barrett's rejection of abortion (The Left's sacrament) is proof of her loyalty to the Church. By I refute that with my own rationale...I am not Catholic, and I am not particularly religious, yet the horror of abortion is clear to me, based on things other than religious philosophy. Respect for human life is not expressly religious; respect for the life of an unborn child is not necessarily based on religious dogma. A logical defense of the assumption that life begins at conception can be entirely separate from any discussion of the soul or other religiously inspired argument. But...I hope they attack her Catholicism. I hope they are vicious and cruel and vile when they talk about her children (adopted or natural...they are the same thing). I do not believe that America is so far gone that we will accept disgusting partisan attacks on this woman. And yes, the last confirmation hearings suggest that I am wrong, but Amy Coney Barrett is a mother as well as a jurist, and that is a powerful and positive thing that maybe; just maybe will allow America to see, for a little while, what the Democrat/progressive mindset is.

No. "Discussion of the soul" is a philosophical, not a "religiously inspired" argument. You will find it at length in Aristotle's De Anima. It was not based on traditional Greek polytheism, or Judaism, or - obviously - on the yet to be seen Christianity. Of course, he was developing ideas from Plato and Socrates, but again, those were not based on religion.
While it is true that some denominations have based a belief on the soul on their ideas of revelation, most Christian ones have not. And certainly not Catholics.
I am tired of so many giving the enemy half of what he insists on. Stop. The fact that the above Greeks were extremely influential in the history of Christian thought, does not change the fact that they were (a) pagans, and (b) impious, by pagan standards. It is simply not a matter of religion.
In fact, the last time I visited and commented on NRO, I attacked Kevin Williamson (a purported Catholic) on just this point.

To limit it is to accept the premise that life begins before birth (which I'm not sure the left really believes, but they sort of at least accept that limitation). To accept this premise that life begins before birth (which is mostly obvious to all, even to the left) is to eventually accept all abortions being prohibited. Because the science (ah science) will get us there eventually.
You say detection of a fetal heartbeat ... that is about 6 weeks. Often right around (a little after perhaps) when people realize they may be pregnant. But what other markers that come before the fetal heartbeat will we be able to use?
In the end, they pro-abortion lobby must stick with their no limitation plan. To do otherwise is to eventually lose the argument entirely.

"All deaths are a tragedy but if Sleepy Joe was in charge, it would have been much much worse. I put travel bans in place months before Joe finally agreed with my decision. He actually called it xenophobic, can you believe that! That's how dumb Joe is.
Joe has said if had but the ban in place one week earlier, 60k lives could have been saved. Keep in mind, there had not been one death on US soil when I put the travel ban in place.
Now imagine how many more hundreds of thousands would have died if we had waited for Joe's okay months later. IF that's not enough proof, look at sleepy Joe's and Obamas response to the H1N1 outbreak.
Total disaster. 60 million infected.
The only thing that saved them was the strain wasn't as deadly and then they didn't restock the cupboards with PPE.

On April 23, a multi-mechanism treatment protocol based on the pathophysiology of covid-19 was implemented and by July 18TH, 31,966 patients were confirmed with the disease. The fatality rate at that time had decreased to 2.66%, representing a decrease of 81.6%.

Judge does not seem the least bit concerned about all the proof of prosecutorial abuse in the process, only that it is his job to pronounce sentence based on Flynn's guilty plea.Because he is a partisan and hates Flynn, my guess is he will sentence and it will take a Trump pardon to put this at an end.

I don't really recall much about the Bork hearing, though it seemed like it was mostly personal rather than over policy. My recollection is just of Ted Kennedy. To the extent there was some policy discussion (over antitrust?), Bork was also somewhat of an arrogant individual (as many super smart people can be) and being confirmed at a time where most nominations went through. If he was unprepared, I would chalk it up to a little judicial arrogance plus a belief that he would likely be confirmed.
Neither of which will seem to hamper ACB.

I think the general consensus among ALL on the right is, their views are NOT going to be given a fair hearing in the corporate media, so the only way to reach the people is to circumvent the media.
Trump has shown that to be highly successful. And I do admire the conservatives/libertarians who will expose themselves to hostile audiences, on campuses, on the media shows, etc.
I think it's effective. Watching the View whores yelling at somebody for thinking differently than they do is going to open some people's eyes.

There is another issue in the ACB confirmation: over fifty years ago, the Dems fought tooth and nail to get JFK elected as president. JFK had a lot going for him, but he was Catholic, and that was his biggest drawback, the single most important obstacle he had to fight against. For the Dems to now object to ACB's Catholicism is the height of hypocrisy.
(As a historical note, I still remember a few of the jokes told about what would happen if JFK became president.)

On my vacay, we drove through Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado.
If I had to estimate, I'd say the masked/unmasked ratio I saw at the various places we visited along the way and in the Denver environs was about 60/40. But I never wore a mask, nor was I ever hassled about it.

my Mom and step-dad liked to play cards when a step-sis came in town ... Mom (earlier dementia stages) and I would win the first three games ... then we'd lose the next three, happened a few times. At the end I think she was fatigued, maybe not following suit even, loss of focus.
the extra pressure on Joe is probably exposing his dementia more than if he was retired and getting better care.

Anonymous Conservative, home of R/K theory, and Q-anon updates is gone. A click gives only a blank screen, "Access denied" in tiny text at upper right. Not even a 404 message. Yeah if you look at the three states with more infections than New York, almost all by close to double they still have half as many dead despite more infected. New Jersey has the same number dead as them despite them have triple to four times the infected. And Michigan and Connecticut also have really poor comparison ratios to them.
