They swear to defend and uphold the document, including the amendments, when they're sworn in. If they don't like the constitution as it is, they ought not to take the job where such an oath is standard. They should stay outside and work to amend it to their liking.
Two separable disastrous developments. Collapse of integrity in the judiciary (not upholding their oaths, abandoning integrity, usurping legislative - and now even executive, including *national security* executive - powers). And the collusion of the legislative and executive branches in all this.
I get that we're in a tactical situation, mid-combat, so you fill the trench with people who will perform, more/less, adequately. But the absurdity of caring about a justice's personal views on things over which they have no business having any influence - prominently including the meaning of clear constitutional language - never ceases to grate.

I was reading something about the history of Supreme Court nominations. All through the 19th century, it was basically POTUS nominated someone, and the Senate would just have a vote, up or down. Individual senators might meet with the nominee to see if they liked the cut of their jib, and they would discuss it amongst themselves, and then vote.
Going through the judiciary committee didn't start until the early 20th century, maybe the 1930s. And the modern process of hearings for nominees where they asked questions didn't start until the '50s.
So Cocaine Mitch should just doing the 19th Century way.

Doesn't speak to her entire view on the 2nd but does give you a pretty good idea of her view on the rights of citizens. I think that is a lot more important as a concept. I don't just want a judge who understands the 2nd, I want a judge who properly understands government's limitations on something they didn't give.

I don't know how old the older one is but if you can find an affordable stylist, it could be be worth it. The most painful part of the lock down was having to wash my hair myself. I love my hair but it's very kinky and thick. I'm so glad salons are open now. It takes my stylist longer to deal with my hair than her other clients', but at least I don't have to do anything.
Also, if she's willing to do styles like twists or cute feminine cornrows or braids, then those will make life easier, too.

Not so fast. In 2018 McSally lost a Senate race she ought to have won, just a few weeks after the Kavanuagh hearings. Also John Tester, Dem. in MT, won reelection despite voting against Kavanaugh, despite being one of those Dems allegedly in trouble of being voted out.

That was the expected outcome even before the Kavanaugh circus. My memory may be off, but in 2018 GOP was expected to win bigly in the Senate because Dems had to defend so many seats. 55 Senators might've been the prediction? They got 53.
I'm just saying that after Kavanaugh the Dems should've been utterly laid waste in the election. But they weren't. Got the House. Didn't lose as badly in the Senate as some were expecting.
Sorry, It's just hard to have much faith in the electorate these days.

The midterm after a Presidential election almost always swings the other way. See 2010 and 2014 for an example of the other direction. It's just a normal cycle in American politics.
The Dems likely went from a blowout election to a more muted upswing because of Kavanaugh.
The midterms under Obama for instance were much bigger GOP wins than 2018 was for Dems.
2018 was also a wave of retirement for Republicans because they believed the MSM polls about a blue wave. Had they stayed on, it would been much better for the GOP.

While I see the point, I am uncomfortable with the trauma that was suffered by Kavanaugh and his family. I would prefer that candidates for other offices work harder on their own to get elected and not to be dependent on the humiliation of Barrett.
I will never forget the anguish of the wives of Thomas, Alito and Kavanaugh during their confirmation hearings. Repulsive.

This was easy in my family, because she had 3 sons and 1 daughter (I'm the middle son) and each of my brothers had 3 sons and no daughters, while I have no kids. When my mother was maybe 60, I noticed that she often mixed up the names of her 3 sons and 6 grandsons, but never their numbers. She would call me by the name of her 2nd or 5th grandson, and vice versa, but never by any other name. We were all obviously #2 in our set of 3 in her mind. And she would call her oldest son by the name of his oldest son (#1 grandson) or our younger brother's oldest son (#4 grandson) and vice versa, but - not to bore your with all the permutations! - would never mix up any of the #1s with the #2s or the #3s. I still remember the time I said "Mom, you just called me Jonathan and you just called Jonathan Craig! You remember us by our numbers, not our names?!" She had to admit it, and was a bit embarrassed, since she hadn't noticed. It was entirely unconscious.
