Saw a great political cartoon for OR, and WA. along the line of "taxes are the price we pay to maintain order" and the citizen going "YAY, no tax bill this year" It really would be very very fitting for greater Portland area residents and Seattle, King county WA folks to simply not pay property or other state taxes they have any control over this year with a note "services were not provided, therefore refusing to pay this bill"

Good for Trump how? I mean, rational intelligent people already knew the economic performance 2017-2019, up to March, was spectacular, "historic" in some ways. They also understood that this was not a case of coincidence - Trump being a bystander, like Clinton, who would've been a one-termer and more widely recognized for what a pathetic bumbler he was, if the internet transitional boom didn't just happen to occur while he was around.
It was policies, changes in policies (some dramatic) that clearly affected the economic situation and trends. But such people are voting for Trump already, or aren't, because of political tribalism or being enormously misinformed about every other aspect of Trump. Seems to me it helps OR Dems, not that they need it. Posted by: rhomboid at September 28, 2020 06:51 PM (OTzUX) 113

anyway, wanted to post this, from zero hedge: Since the left is now in histrionics over President Trump's perfectly legal use of the US tax code to avoid paying taxes for 10 out of the last 15 years, perhaps they'll give as much attention to Joe Biden - who used another perfectly legal tax 'loophole' to avoid approximately $500,000 in payroll taxes on $15 million in income. Of course, they ignored it in July when the Wall Street Journal reported that Joe and Jill Biden took advantage of the "S corporation" payroll tax loophole that the Obama-Biden administration unsuccessfully attempted to close. According to the report, the Bidens routed income from book sales and speeches through S corporations - avoiding the 3.8% self-employment tax they would have paid if they had been compensated directly, and avoiding as much as $500,000 in taxes. Armenia is claiming to have destroyed 49 Azeri UAVs. Forty nine. That's quite a few.
*Turkish* UAVs - well, they didn't say that, but it's probably the case (maybe some russki ones too - Moscow sells to both countries). Plus, 80 armored vehicles. I see this one dying down for the usual reasons - lack of results for the one taking the initiative (AZR), plus their inability to sustain much of a show (AZR). ARM probably can hold the line where it's important. AZR probably driven a bit by desperation, and popular political sentiment - ARM's not giving an inch, and showing no signs it will, in negotiations over what is now a 30-year old situation. Involving one of the largest displaced person (refugee inside you own borders) situation in the world - maybe the biggest, at this point. Exciting neighborhood. ARM's public comms are not as absurd as, say, Iran's or North Korea's. AZR's probably will verge on that level, haven't checked them as much. ARM info will be less reliable than anything coming from a 1st World country involved in shooting (oops - meant to say, the US - which is the only country in the category, thanks to the uselessness of everyone else), but less ridiculous than AZR.
And the Turkish drone thing is kind of interesting. They've been using them with success in Syria, including against Russian units. UAVs are a much lower barrier-to-entry military technology for 2nd tier producers than anything as useful, in a long time. Posted by: rhomboid at September 28, 2020 07:06 PM (OTzUX) 281

Comment on the old tattoo post:
Five years ago, I was in one of those "how to search for a job" classes. I mentioned to the "teacher" that because I have no tattoos, that was a plus, right? She looked at me like I had whizzed in her face! The rules have changed. Tattoos and piercings are a _plus_ for job searchers now, I guess. I got kicked out of the "class" anyway. When I gave my 30-second "elevator speech," I aced it, and the whole class applauded. Then I told them that I had just done an imitation of a phony used-car salesman cloned with a crooked tele-evangelist. Out I went, with a police escort. Hello early retirement! Still, when I go in stores now, even the cheap crep one sees in Walgreens, I am tempted. _______________ Yep, I love Halloween and I decorate too (skeletons, naturally). I just wouldn't spend $300 on a 12-foot one. I'd be tempted if it was cheaper, but I still wouldn't get it because I wouldn't have room enough anywhere to store it after Halloween. From the photos of it in the article, the thing is huge and would take up half my garage. But hey, for those who can afford it and have the space to store it (and the patience to spend 2 hours putting it together), have at it! 308 LOL Trump's taxes are the most carefully gone over in history and they've got NOTHING
Posted by: steevy at September 28, 2020 07:10 PM (HwiWi) They seem to think that Trump fires up TurboTax and does his own taxes. He's probably never read his tax returns. I know I never read mine; when I get them from my accountant, I just sign them, write a check, and forget the whole thing as quickly as possible. Kind of sobering to think the the Left would gladly kill this website if they could.
Posted by: tubal at September 28, 2020 06:57 PM (bCLt0) True. You notice that leftists always want people/ companies/ information sources (most famously Fox) banned? I never heard a conservative wanting Air America banned; we were just pleased when it went belly up. And I've never heard anyone even want NPR banned; just taken off of the taxpayers' tab, that's all. Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at September 28, 2020 07:18 PM (d0vJg) 329
Halloween question:
Does anybody know of a full size skeleton that has fully movable ball and socket shoulders, so that the arms can be lifted to the *side*? (like Jesus on the Cross) The Home Depot and Spirit of Halloween store skeletons all only can lift their arms to the front or rear. Why does Oregon have a budgetary surplus, pray tell?
Hint: Fed and Treas. funny money (from the linked article) : Federal aid, part of the CARES Act, also provided a $14 billion boost to the Oregon economy. About half that figure came from Paycheck Protection Program loans. The other half went to households as expanded unemployment and household recovery rebates. "The impact of this money is not that incomes were maintained, but incomes are higher today than they were pre-COVID, because of all this federal support," said economist Josh Lehner.
