The First Saturday Night Joke

Two little boys, ages 5 and 7, are excessively mischievous. They are always getting into trouble and their parents know if any mischief occurs in their town, the two boys are probably involved.

The boys’ mother heard that a preacher in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The preacher agreed, but he asked to see them individually.

The mother sent the 5 year old in the morning, with the older boy to see the preacher in the afternoon.

The preacher, a huge man with a deep booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, “Do you know where God is, son?”

The boy’s mouth dropped open, but he made no response, sitting there wide-eyed with his mouth hanging open.

So the preacher repeated the question in an even sterner tone, “Where is God?!

Again, the boy made no attempt to answer.

The preacher raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy’s face and bellowed, “WHERE IS GOD?!”

The boy screamed & bolted from the room, ran directly home & dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him.

When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, “What happened?” The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, “We are in BIG trouble this time!”

“GOD is missing, and they think WE did it!”
Thank you Legally Sufficient for tonight's joke.

The Second Saturday Night Joke

In Texas there is a town called New Braunfels, where there is a large German-speaking population.

One day, a local rancher driving down a country road noticed a man using his hand to drink water from the rancher's stock pond.

The rancher rolled down the window and shouted: "Sehr angenehm! Trink das Wasser nicht. Die kuehe haben darein geschissen."

This means: “Glad to meet you! Don't drink the water. The cows have sh*t in it."

The man shouted back: "I'm from New York and just down here campaigning for Joe Biden. I can't understand you. Please speak in English."

The rancher replied: "Use both hands."

This joke submitted by Isophorone Blog. Thanks.

Learn How to Swear in 15 Languages From Samuel L. Jackson

It’s not unusual for celebrities to lend their voice and their talents to help get out the vote—especially in presidential election years. But this one is a little different, because it involves Samuel L. Jackson offering a masterclass in swearing in 15 different languages. If that’s not enough of an incentive to check your voter registration status, we don’t know what is. Here’s how to learn international cursing from the best in the biz.

Beyond the Brandy Old-Fashioned: How Wisconsin Shaped the Way Americans Drink

The beer-and-brandy soaked state consistently leads or places among the top contenders in America’s Drunkest States round-ups, and this past January, the Badger State clocked in with 12 of the top 20 entries of the Nation’s Drunkest Cities as compiled by 24/7 Wall Street. Overconsumption of alcohol is a serious matter and can be problematic on many fronts, and most states might try to quickly bury such headlines from the daily news cycle, but Wisconsinites wear this black eye like a badge of honor after a bar fight.

“Drinking is part of the state identity. In a weird way they’re perversely proud of it. It’s a part of life,” says Milwaukee native Robert Simonson, an acclaimed drinks writer and author who now lives in Brooklyn but makes it back to his home state three to five times a year. (He also famously dons a glittery green-and-gold Green Bay Packers Santa hat at his annual Christmas party as he mixes up Tom & Jerry’s for guests.)

While we are on drinking............Our pal Winston, the dreg of society forwarded this onto The ONT. Everything you wanted to know about the top bum wines but were afraid to ask.

Call them bum wines, street wines, fortified wines, wino wines, or twist-cap wines.
Whatever you call these beverages for the economical drunkard, this page explores the top five.

Will we see a 4 day work week in our lifetime?

It’s an idea that’s getting a lot of airplay as the world reimagines the post-pandemic working week. But will employers ever make such an expensive leap of faith?

“If only Marx were still by my side to see this with his own eyes!”

So quivered journalist and revolutionary theorist Friedrich Engels, in a state of euphoric anticipation on May 1, 1890. He was penning the preface to a new edition of The Communist Manifesto, some 42 years after he had put his name to that somewhat influential pamphlet’s first printing, and seven years after the death of his famous collaborator, Karl Marx. “Today as I write these lines,” Engels proclaimed in his foreword, “the European and American proletariat is reviewing its fighting forces, mobilized for the first time, mobilized as one army, under one flag, for one immediate aim.”

And what was this world-shaking upheaval that had him sermonizing about a new world order like a steampunk General Hux? It wasn’t the overthrow of a czar, or the abolition of all property, or anything quite so dramatic (not yet anyway). It was a coordinated peaceful protest — the international forerunner to Labor Day — which was taking place in cities across two continents that day, in which workers were demanding the eight-hour day become the legal standard in their respective countries.

20 Duplicated from previous thread, just because:

There was a Trump/Republican rally in rural (and I do mean rural) Virginia this afternoon, that I and some friends attended, even though it meant that I would miss the Pet Thread.

The weather was rainy/showers all morning and only stopped at about the planned start time of the rally, my hope was that the sun would come out for the rally proper, but alas that did not happen. However, the rain held off for several hours, and our estimate was that at a minimum there were a thousand plus vehicles there, and some had Maryland plates (not an easy drive), so it was very well attended. Side note, this would be about the equivalent of 15-20 % of the entire population of the county.

They even had a ferry system set up so you could anchor your boat offshore and be dropped off at the pier and walk to the event.

The really great part was that there looked to be many many youngish people (20-30) in attendance, and many had brought their children!

Everyone was polite, happy, and neat (but after all, they were responsible Republicans) and easy to chat with! Very few masks in sight and minimal social distancing, what it was almost like a civilized pre-plandemic event!

Great afternoon, and gave me hope for the future!

I was just reading some stuff about ACB's opinions on the 7th Circuit. One good one was she's not a fan of lying cops.

The case involved some detective who had just about flat-out framed a defendant for a murder. He left out exculpatory evidence, put in all the bad-looking stuff, and left the reasonable explanations for the bad-looking stuff.

The case was dropped, and the defendant sued the detective for framing him. He invoked the (dubious) doctrine of "qualified immunity". ACB had none of it, and ripped the argument to shreds.

Qualified immunity has been created by the courts, and has allowed a lot of bad actors to get away with bad behavior.

You do NOT want to get arrested in a third world country. The only upside is that the cops can sometimes be bribed to let you go - and in fact that's a side hustle for cops in some places, like Mexico. Though if you do get arrested, be prepared to grease the palms of the cops, the judge, the lawyers and the jailers if you hope to see the light of day ever again.

I went to the bank to change dollars to rubles.
Saw a line 150 people deep waiting to do the same thing. Not moving at all.
Jumped in a cab, gave the driver a pack of Marlboros.
Told him I needed rubles.
He exchanged with me.
Then he informed on me.
I spent 2 weeks in a Soviet jail.

90 That session with Russell Brand is fascinating....because he comes so close to getting it.

His argument:
1) Stop insulting Trump, he plays that better then the media does
2) Trump exists because Obama didn't deliver "meaningful change" even though Obama was awesome!!!! of course

3) The media is only distracting people from the real issues.

And where he can't get put it all together it Obama did exactly what the left wants and gave the left exactly the "change" it wanted - which was more of everything that made the Bush administration bad.

Trump exists because transnational progressivism is bad for the middle and working class. You can't have leftwing politics and a more "equal" access to power and wealth. More centralization of power will inherently leads to greater concentrations of power and wealth. And also forces the sole central authority to force a "one size fits all" solution on the population it rules. Which will always be the one best for said ruling elite.

Got strip searched on the train and they found 7 grams on me. I had it stuffed down my sock. They took me off the train and turned me over to Army CID. CID guy told me...yeah, we've been watching that place where you got the Hash.

He gave me my pass back, put me on the next train and instructed me to return straight to my unit and report to my commanding officer. He also told me going AWOL would be an automatic 5 years in Leavenworth.

Fortunately I was able to get out with an honorable discharge, about a month and a half before the hostages got taken in Iran.

I have not been to Jamaica, but I know people who have, and they told me two things in particular about it:

2) That is not a country you want to spend any amount of time in apart from the resorts.

So yeah, I would advise not doing that.

Not arrested per se, but detained and deported. For "walking on the wrong side of the road" from gringo pass, arizona to soinita mecico for cheap booze. The "Federale" and his 9 year old son laughed and carried on in spanish (pinche gabachos) so my two chem/minerology student pals began discussing in the german (...schieskopf...) which panicked mex boy who hit high speed to dump us at the border. No money changed hands, but he directed us to his cousin's border liquor store. Circa 1975.

I came damn close in 2017. What with all my anxiety about going over to Germany for my year-long study fellowship, I never even thought about getting a visa, and didn't think about it once I was over there...until I was at the airport in Frankfurt trying to fly back over here for a short visit, and my passport set off alarm bells with the Polizei. Once they explained it, I got so panicked I fainted for the only time in my life, which probably saved me from getting arrested--I assume that convinced them I had been stupid and not deliberately criminal.

Moral: if you go to Europe for more than 3 months, get your visa.

169 Who here, as a US citizen, has ever been arrested for a crime in a foreign land?

Twenty years ago, the corrupt police force on a Caribbean tourist island decided to supplement their incomes by occasionally planting drugs in the luggage of random Americans leaving the island, "finding" the drugs during the pre-departure baggage search, arresting them, and demanding large "fines" to let them go.

Unfortunately for the cops, they weren't very discriminating on which Americans they pulled this scam on, and arrested several departing Mormon missionaries for drug smuggling.

The US government decided that it didn't believe that multiple Mormon missionaries had decided to take up drug smuggling, and informed the island's government that the US would wreck the island's tourist trade if they didn't stop this.

They stopped.

As a consular officer, I have had to visit a lot of American citizens who have been arrested overseas. My favorite was the fellow who was part of an "international crime gang" in Chios, Greece, who got drunk with a Greek, an Aussie, and a German and decided to rob the Greek guy's boss. Of his safe. Which weighed 500 lbs.
They put it in the Greek guy's car, and it dropped the back end of the car. American was driving and was too drunk to get out of the car when the cops showed up. He spent six months in the Chios jail, which was a little piece of heaven, literally.

I show up for the US Consul visit, and they have banners and a police car with American flags on it to bring me to the prison. The prisoners had little huts on a fenced compound where they gardened and took care of a bunch of strays and farm animals, and they and the warden put on a huge feast for me. Some of the best food I have ever eaten, to be honest.

The guy didn't want to leave, and cried when Greece deported him back to the US. I didn't blame him, tbh.

The worst was the vicious murderer who attacked and killed a special needs girl while he was on vacation in the islands in Greece, and when I went to visit him, threatened me. With murder. He was from a wealthy NY family, and said he could find out where I lived and make sure it was painful.
My boss told me it was my fault I was threatened because I was too blonde.

Thankfully, no. If you volunteered for rehab, they struck it from your record. This was during the Carter administration and what with all the Nam vets, they were trying not to kick people out for one mistake, depending on what a person was busted for.

I'm not very smart, so one of you sophisticates will have to explain this to me in words of two syllables or less.

I am bombarded on all sides by declarations that this is the most consequential election in our history and that there can be no greater priority than ousting the proto-Hitlerian Donald Trump from office.

However, the candidate they're running goes back to bed at 9:30 every morning and his side piece hasn't exactly been on the hustings either, not to hear about it.

What the hell's going on?

Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at September 26, 2020 10:40 PM (mht8P)

Trump must be banished ASAP because he blocks modern-day Leninists and Stalinists from ruling not just the USA but the world. They use tools that fool the rubes (Biden, Obama) into voting for a promised Utopia, but it's just the old bait-and-switch scam.

239 I was watching a political argument in some facebook group I'm in.

Sure enough the lefties ended up being Trump into it (it was about local politics) and as they are all independent minded people who are well read they all decided the problem with Trump is that he told everyone he grabbed unwilling women by the kitty.

And this is where we are in 2020 - the left is going to vote for some local level politician because they believe the presidential candidate of the other party groped a woman even though their candidate in fact groped a women (which either way has NO effect on the local politicians in question).

304 Attila - ooh ooh, do tell some details please.

Rubles on exit, no receipts - so, Era of Glorious Soviet Power, yes?

No rubles (well, a few, brand new bank notes, stashed somewhere as souvenirs), but ..... was wearing a Soviet Army summer field dress uniform *under* my regular clothes (itched like a muthascratcha - typical Soviet quality and comfort). Also a souvenir.

In the post-Soviet era, only one incident. Exit customs guy at Baku airport tried to hassle/shake me down for one of my rugs. They were obviously *not* antiques, the only thing regulated.

Only time in my life I decided to escalate/broaden the problem. So I raised my voice and (in Russian) said something like "what is this? These are not antiques! I have the receipt. Do you even know what an antique rug looks like? I got them at the store with the round room down by the waterfront, check with them!".

Before I'd even finished that, the guy was blushing and showing "defeat". He waved his hands, "it's OK, it's OK" .... and one small shake-down was averted.

yep. This was a huge case in Greece, and my boss should have been the one to go deal with this guy, but he couldn't be bothered. So I went.

There was also a guy in jail in Sparta (!) for drug dealing who had been running a cult, I think. He had about ten different women trying to come for conjugal visits, and the Greek prison guards told me to tell this guy to knock it off. He claimed he was their spiritual leader, and would I like to learn about enlightenment too?

I told him I was Baptist. We shun enlightenment and dancing.

329 This may end up tl:dr material, but here goes.

Junior year of high school, I leave my house after a nasty shouting match with my dear mother.

Head off with friends to watch a wrestling match. I mention that I've got a wicked headache, and a friend offers up a painkiller he has on him.

We stop at a known establishment that sells to the underaged, and pick up an assortment of beer, Boones Farm, and MD 2020.

Off to the match, and pound a few beers

Leave the match, head to a party at a country club where there are girls we know: find girls, drink BF

We leave CC, drive around aimlessly drinking MD 2020. Decide to go to a friend's house, drink more beer on the way.

As we pile out of the car, I lose my footing and fall into a snowbank. The rest of the pack dogpiles me, and I lose my glasses in the commotion.

Into the house we go, drink more beer and MD 2020. I complain that " I don't feel so good" , and I'm escorted upstairs to a bedroom to lay down for a while.

You can see where this is going I'm sure. Girls bedroom, all white decor...spins begin, and I don't know where I am. Can't find the door, look for a window. Can't open the window, look for a wastebasket. No wastebasket, have no choice but to use a blanket.

PURPLE BARF EVERYWHERE!!!

Feeling somewhat better, I bundle up the barf, wander downstairs ( very proudly I might add), and hand my host the BLANKET OF BARF.

All hell breaks loose, we're told to leave. One of my friends takes me home to his house and sneaks me up to his room, and puts me to bed.

Some time around 2:00am, my friends father shakes me awake: Browndog, your father's on the phone...he sounds angry!

I am immediately sobered up. I'm to!d to be at a specific location in just minutes, don't be late. So I hastily put my clothes on, run out of the house and up a few blocks to meet my doom.

I see my father has beat me to the rendezvous, I get in the car. He's about to backhand me, when he smells the booze and barf...

He smiles, and says: I think I'll let your mother handle this.

Grounded for a month. And those glasses, well they didn't show up till spring.

To this day it's a story that gets told at many a house...and I'm still persona non grata at the house with the white bedroom.

MD 2020 and I, discontinued our budding relationship shortly thereafter.

Thus ends the tale of bumwine and the browndog. I thank you...

368 Attila, thanks. My adventures were from the same time period.

I was there for quite a while, so waited a decent interval before selling jeans ($200, in rubles, so ..... 480?). After some of us had established relationships with some local outcasts.

Taxi drivers. The actual "underground", or rebel sub-culture of the late-period USSR. Independent. Had a car! Dealt in cash. Knew all kinds of people. So - "biznyess" was a natural for them. Some of the people among our Soviet friends were taxi drivers.

I traded 2nd pair of Levis for the Soviet Army uniform (not a "deal" for me, but who cares - pair of jeans?).

One guy in our group - whose Russian was way below the level appropriate for the program - brought almost nothing in his luggage *except* new Levis, Beatles records, Marlboros, women's stockings, and cosmetics. He it all in one batch to some "yasheritza" (lizard - black marketeer) and ate at hotels and restaurants the rest of the program.

But I'll always remember him for his perfect comment, as we were walking off the plane - airstair, then walking between painted lines, with route lined every 20 feet by border guards in their ill-fitting uniforms, looking miserably insecure. With the primitive construction quality of the terminal (Sheremetyvo) readily apparent even as we approached it.

"We're afraid of THESE guys???"

Height of the Cold War. But it was perfect. (as the joke went at the time - the Soviets are incapable of anything, except conquering the world - a profoundly truthy joke)

Best reaction was at the checkpoint into South Ossetia, from Georgia (just up the hill from Stalin's home town).

We were legit and had papers, etc., but I decided to give the young "soldiers" some Marlboros because it was a beautiful day (and the Caucasus is quite beautiful in the summer) and I felt like it. You'd think I'd given them US green cards. They were stoked.

And South Ossetia is beautiful. Mountains. Though you can sprain a muscle trying to properly pronounce the capital - Tskhinvali.

Legion are the disappointed that thought that Graham was going down in the past - and he has always played the "I'm in trouble, please contribute!" card to his advantage. This race is pretty typical for him. No one, I mean no one, does retail politicking in South Carolina better than Lindsey. He wins in a 10 point runaway, as usual.

But I'm agnostic on all the tea-leaf reading for court nominees. The judiciary needs to have its influence reduced by about 87%, tomorrow, regardless of which glorified clerks, er, "justices" and "judges" are hired.

I would imagine they are stupidly trying to cling to a (modern) Senate tradition. Until 1916, the Senate never held committee hearings for justice nominees. Fun fact: the nominee that prompted the first hearings (Louis Brandeis) refused to attend the hearings.

448 441 I saw recently saw that Baldur's Gate 3 was on the way to releasing soon. Being a big fan of the first two Baldur's Gate games, I looked it up on Steam to see when it would be releasing, and I got this warning that made me chuckle...

Is this game relevant to you?
This game doesn't look like other things you've played in the past. As such we don't have much information on whether or not you might be interested in it.

Well, I have actually bought several similar games on Steam before. But I think I see what they're getting at. I've also bought a lot of titty games there, and I suspect they're thinking, "This is not a titty game. Are you sure you'd be interested in something like this?"

Well before my post got corrupted, The "Crew Boss" of a Big Bear Hotshot crew "died" in the El Dorado fire in San Bernardino while on the fire line. No details bout how or why by the MSM. Just vid from the scene showing charred inch and a half forrest service hose going up an apparent forest service road with crime scene tape. Now Hotshots are elite ground crews and know their stuff so...how did the crew Boss get ?separated? from his crew?

And then less than a week after, an off-duty Big Bear Hotshot crewmember (?same crew?) goes missing and his wrecked truck is found below Big Bear on HWY 18?

"shipwreckedcrew" on the twatters is a former federal prosecutor. I added him to my list for issues related to the Mega-Scandal, Flynn case, etc., on the DOJ/FBI side. Before he got "discovered" - in his case, he started publishing articles at RedState.

But so far, for me, his most important and telling comment was a throw-away one, discussing something else. He noted how absurd the idea is that the way to "control" the FBI, in this case to not let them continue running amok with the fake RUSSIA! crap, was to appoint a special prosecutor. Since DOJ can and does direct the FBI on any matter it chooses - really, on everything.

It was a throw-away, he didn't develop the point, but it accorded not only with common sense but the instant/vehement reactions of people who know and understand how it all works, from long direct experience.
