What gets me is how many of these folks who are writing anti Trump tax stories, don't know the first thing about how a business man files taxes.
You have to pay estimated Quarterly Taxes. Taxes OWED, is how much MORE you need to pay beyond those estimated quarterly taxes.
That Trump's tax returns were only 750 off on MILLIONS, is really a testament to their professional acumen.

Gotta be specific, gotta be substantive, in each case (not that it's not often obvious). Otherwise ..... the "appeal to authority" inherent in the very concept of "expert" is now beclowning more people than ever.
Take a former FDA chief who makes absurd and counter-factual statements, nearly daily, on the webs, about C19.
Hell, take the current CDC and infectious disease chiefs who almost daily make preposterous claims, often directly in the face of fresh, well known, uncontested facts - not just reasonable interpretations or theories.
There are "Twitter epidemiologists" who can and do disembowel credentialed idiots every day. Idiots who are peddling ridiculous crap that is costing lives.
I know I know people are busy/lazy/don't like to think hard/don't have any background/desperately rely on credentials and titles and labels etc.
And in this world, where now the state and any "experts" who can capture its policy machine can literally ruin your life, for no good reason whatsoever, the even worse news is that you need to go way beyond the default approach snarked at above.
Actually, a majority needs to do so. Or the rampant vandalism and abuse disfiguring the country will only get worse. For various reasons it's fairly clear Trump won't/can't do much about it.

I can't claim originality on this, I heard this on Rush today.
Without assigning motive to why the polling keeps coming up with Biden ahead by 8-12 points, the question of how they keep showing a number that doesn't make sense has been bugging me for awhile.
Well on Rush today, he talked about someone who works in a polling firm that explained what they are doing to get results showing Biden leading among subgroups that shouldn't be supporting him (e.g. 65+ voters).
They pollsters are trying to still come up with a sample that is believable in partisan splits, say 38D/30R/32I. But they are deliberately polling in areas that would trend toward Biden. So they go for affluent suburban districts to get their Republican samples, in order to oversample the NeverTrump wine moms. For the Dem samples they avoid the middle class working class neighborhoods and focus on the urban precincts.
The areas they never poll are rural.
So it is sample source manipulation that is generating the results they want to get.

People still think polls are doing what they used to do, particularly pundits and bloggers.

The solution, again this time, is to do the weird manipulations you describe, right at this time, but to ramp it down in time to not be too wrong before the election. That's the plan, anyway, didn't work to well in 2016, but it's still the plan.
So expect a "late surge of enthusiasm for Trump" that is really just the pollsters trying to get in tune with reality before the result they get judged on.

Yeah, you weight your sample to try to reflect the overall population (people who make over $100,000 a year tend to be underrepresented in a random sample so you weight them more, for example.
Yeah, you could play games like not calling in rural areas so you can skew the numbers, and then not weighting for your rural underrepresentation.

Here is my pet theory with adopting kids. When you have your own kids, you understand them to some extent because they are literally half you. You see yourself, your spouse, and other relatives in them. So, you have a relational starting point in dealing with them. An adoptive kid though is more of an enigma. Now throw in a racial difference. It's a high hurdle to overcome.

One of my buddies was working for First American in SoCal two decades ago -- an Oracle Apps specialist. They decided to fire all their American engineers and outsource to India. He told me at the time that (1) he was going to henceforth refer to them as First Indian; and (2) that he guaranteed they'd be begging him to come back within a year.

Yeah, but like anything else in America, Americans shoot themselves in the foot and whine about why Americans then go abroad.
Americans constantly put out the "YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE" mat for business and wonder why they set up in China and elsewhere for business. (I still contend that plenty of businesses would LOVE to set up shop here for manufacturing - the only jobs that matter, apparently - but as long as it's cheaper to bribe a CPC official than it is to go through several miles of red tape here just to break ground on a new facility, of COURSE they are going for the cheapest option.)
Same in adoptions. MUCH legal hassles and wrangling involved. Granted, it makes sense to have some oversight to make sure kids being put up for adoption are set up for success with good families. But there should be some streamlining to the process. Make it a LITTLE easier. When someone is WILLING to adopt, don't set out to kick them in the ass for showing up. (And you will probably get more families willing to adopt!) But it's most likely easier to adopt overseas than at home due to bureaucracy, red tape, and other needless nonsense. Then, cue the people whining about why there are adoptions of kids overseas instead of here at home...

One of my first business, not engineering, consulting job was from a company that I had saved their new product design. So the president hired me to look at fixing their engineering department. That took about four hours. I told him the engineering manager was a fool and he had to fire him. Turns out the engineering manager was his wife's brother so he said he needed another answer. So I looked for another few hours and the BIL was the problem and told the company president that. He cut me a check and I never did business with that company again.
Not a big loss because they went BK about a year later. But point of the story is, I didn't give him the answer he wanted and was paying for.

Not really. The few that have might get upset. The reality is there are a lot of people who don't think it is a good idea. They just won't say it out loud. I still believe that numbers like 700K votes are over the top bragging. I think getting an extra 10K votes over the cheating they already do (and did in 2016) is going to be about the limit.

Decades ago, I owned a software company and one of my programmers told me a story when he was in college.
His professor, in the 1970's, applied for a job as IT Director for a new, upstart company based in Tennessee.
It had this idea that people would pay outrageous amounts of money, instead of the 24 cents on a first-class stamp at the time, to get a simple letter from any place to any other place, get this, OVERNIGHT.
His first and only question: "Why would anyone want to pay for that?"
He told this story on his first day of class every semester, his second career choice.
Not comparing the two, but Dave, you are just too honest and honorable to believe the worst.

They just might be getting imported because in this country we pride ourselves in making things needlessly difficult (like adopting kids) and then getting mad when people seek other alternatives (like heading abroad to adopt). It's not a patriotic duty to get beaten about the head and shoulders by bureaucracy, especially when you are offering a loving home to a kid. That should be celebrated and encouraged.

When my parents adopted me and my brother, it wasn't expensive but it was very time consuming. As my mom tells it, they went though a bunch of very stressful interviews and a full background check to get my brother, and then for at least a year afterward, the social worker would show up unannounced at the worst possible times, like when my brother had the flu and was throwing up everywhere and crying constantly, and mom hadn't slept in 3 days. But they persevered because they knew I was out there, waiting to be born and for them to be my Mom and Dad.

But I also try to be a realist. I think part of why we don't agree on this is that we are living in places where the rules, and especially the enforcement of the rules, are different.
I freely admit that a Republican will never again be allowed to win a statewide election in Washington or Oregon. The fraud there is ingrained and impossible to overcome.
But in places like Florida there are pretty strict election controls. And they have been beefed up considerably since the 2000 recount, the 2012 fraud, and the nonsense in Palm Beach in 2018. So I've seen the Democrats try to steal an extra 20K votes needed to win an election and fail.
Maybe my optimism is based on believing that the Dems won't get away with it in states that will matter this time. No offense, but Washington doesn't matter. It was going to vote for Biden no matter what.
But again, I've been wrong before. I very well could be this time too.

Thanks. They were the best. They taught us that being adopted made us extra special- some kids were just born, but my brother and I were really wanted. I miss them every day.

Ballot harvesters are more like contracted uber drivers than DA's or Judges. They only get paid on commission, not salary, and don't get benefits and a retirement plan.

The media can say what it wants. I think if Trump take's Levin's advice and gets mail in ballots not established by legislatures invalidated, he'll do it nationwide, which given the mindset of Democrat voters, will wipe out enough that a popular vote victory for Biden is impractical.

Nope, I have 2 birth kids and 2 was enough for me. The urge to have a biological tie to someone was surprisingly really strong and Im still amazed when I see how alike my kids and I are in some respects, but they also take after my parents in many ways, which obviously is not genetic but makes me proud and all of us very happy.

I need to grow paste tomatoes next year, I used a crock pot full of smushed tomatoes, one chopped onion, two peppers and cooked it down a quarter, ran it through a food mill and then cooked it down to half and wound up with three pints before it was thick enough.
Crock pot does do well, but it takes 24 hours to cook my regular ones down, and they don't have the acid taste I like, this batch was too sweet.
next time I will use anise and basil, I guess.

And expensive. Many tens of thousands expensive. I'm not begrudging the mom for the fraction that she gets. Just the fact that she's having the child and not doing what all the rest do and getting an abortion is deserving of praise. But then so many get a big cut of that, the agencies, their legal staff, social workers etc.. Many agencies put varied prices on children depending if the child is white, black, in between. My wife and I didn't care, but some couples do and they pay through the nose. And some agencies take big portions of that money. That all makes you sick.
Then as the adopting parents you go through the process of creating these brochure/advertisements of yourself and get to enjoy rejection after rejection. So you keep tweaking your brochure until some birth mom doesn't think you and your wife are axe murderers or something. And then the loss of privacy because you have to get fingerprinted and request all of your state/ local legal files. Request your own FBI background check. And send all that to multiple groups of people. Then you get to go to months of social service, "how not to kill your child", classes.
When it finally all works the result is pure bliss. But getting there is hell.

I finally figured it out:
1. Roma tomatoes2. Food mill3. Initial simmer in a standard large stockpot with cover on4. Final simmer in a large, deep skillet. Continue until sauce is thickened to desired consistency.
5. Pressure can the sauce in jars.
I've made a couple dozen pints this year. Best sauce ever.

I received no monetary compensation. I had an atty, after many conversations, she gave me three couples to choose from. I choose. They paid medical expenses and up to six months of psych help if I wanted it. I declined. They wanted to be at the hospital when she was born. I declined that as well as an open adoption. I actually met my daughter a few years ago. She had a wonderful life. We were both lucky. Sadly, she passed suddenly last year. Her father has custody of her daughter and we are in contact. I am forever grateful for all of it.

These children? They are as rare as hen's teeth and the competition for them is fierce. Very, very fierce.

Modern breeds of tomatoes have had most of the acid bred out of them, which is very sad because it pops the flavor. If you can find some artisan or heritage tomatoes that will help.
I have a hard time growing maters here, very little success. I can get herbs to grow like a jungle but vegetables not so much.

I splash it in (maybe 1/3 cup to a saucepan) right after I turn off the heat and just before I do all the final prep for the rest of the food. It doesn't cool it down too much. It doesn't curdle or anything, I was a little worried about that at first. It's actually from a roasted tomato soup recipe from Guy Fieri, of all people, but it works really well for a sauce too.

Dave, no offense taken! And I pretty much either agree with all you have said, or hope it will turn out successfully because states like Florida still believe in an election process with integrity.
I've told the story many times about how WA state, and by deduction, any Motor Voter state, cheats every day. Even bringing up the idea around most places in WA will get them to show you the door. Until people see it for themselves, nothing will happen. And thinking that our corrupt local press will report it is foolish.
We're all pretty much pissed off, freaked out, or similar at the barrage of voting corruption that is being reported by a few news organizations, but lied about by Progda, which controls over 90% of the messaging channels.
I don't know how it will pan out, but find myself taking a moment or two to just chill and let the anger subside, much more often than I used to. Keeping that anger in is not healthy for me.

That makes sense, that the three year old would have been more difficult. Still, there's a LOT of hardship you saved them both by adopting them as young as they were. A couple more years for the three year old, and her life would have been very different.

We have plenty of them.
Plenty of black youth.
Plenty of youth with mental disorders or disturbances.
Plenty of youth with emotional alienation.
Plenty of youth with physical disabilities.
Plenty of youth with disciplinary records and criminal convictions.
Plenty of teenagers.
Plenty of youth with siblings in foster care who have decided that they either both get adopted *together*, or they stay in foster care together. A two for the price of one adoption.
If you want to adopt a child who is one or more of the above, they are there and available. Lots of them.
But...
Most parents looking to adopt are looking for a white infant with no known medical conditions.
These children? They are as rare as hen's teeth and the competition for them is fierce. Very, very fierce.

Work to make it easier to adopt kids right here in America. When that happens, watch adoptions here in this country by American families skyrocket. (Until then, I'm not blaming American families for going overseas to adopt.)

There is a substantive difference between adopting a child to have a family and adopting a child because you have lots of extra to give and time to devote and money to serve up.
Judging parents over which child they adopt goes nowhere fast.
However, we adopted a lovely brown baby from Guatemala because 1. American adoptions can be yanked back for six months without warning and 2. Women giving up their babies get to select the family with which the child will live, and getting picked can happen next week or never. We went for the sure thing, instead of putting our hearts out there and having the squashed flat.
We could have adopted a special needs kid, but we both have to work full time and it seemed unlikely that would be sustainable, which would not be fair to the kid.
Then again, any crack whore can get pregnant and nobody says boo.

I would never question adoptive parents' choice regarding who they adopt.
It's a difficult thing, no matter what, and people have to decide what their capacity is. There are MANY children out there in need of parenting. The chosen one is fortunate, and the parents are doing God's work.

Late last year, I recall for a few weeks that non-Progda outlets were reporting large increases in fires around Wuhan. About the same time, it was rumored that Chinese police are finding anyone with Covid and taking them away. The fires were later speculated to be crematoriums working overtime.
There were Google pictures comparing the same area from a year ago to then current situation. The fires were a lot bigger. Then those reports suddenly disappeared.

I got like 6 tomatoes this year, which was a bounty crop (little weird pepper-shaped ones, not sure what the type is). The other plants grew about 4" tall and.... stopped. That was their best effort. I eventually ripped them out in frustration after several months.
Never had any luck at all with any variety of peppers, although I know some hispanics who grow bushels full of the damned things. Its gotta be something I'm doing wrong, but I'm fine with the herbs. Herbs grow in Oregon like grass in Kansas.

I have friends, they had one bio child, a son. She became unable to conceive after that. They wanted a girl. So they applied at the various agencies, got vetted like crazy, finally the agency said "We have a girl for you. But, can you take her brother as well?"
Of course, they did.
Today they are the happiest family I know.

None of our mob was adopted, but three of my cousins were Korean orphans from the aftermath of the Korean war, along with their son. We stayed there if my mom had to get a medical thing done and needed us out of the way for a bit.
It has given me a odd double view of Asian ladies (all three were girls) as exotic and cozy like family. The oldest was at my sister's funeral and it was odd being taller than her.

Men (and women, just cause) have been cross-pollinating and hybridizing for a reason.... disease resistance, insect resistance, nematode, etc..
Oh, and the flavor's been improved, largely, as has the seed content, also etc..
If you're not growing what your local extension people or uni's are saying has been consistent producers, you're missing out.
Heirlooms are fun, but that's about it. Be damned if we'd ever rely on them for a year's worth of produce.

Work to make it easier to adopt kids right here in America. When that happens, watch adoptions here in this country by American families skyrocket. (Until then, I'm not blaming American families for going overseas to adopt.)

Sure. The bureaucracy makes adopting healthy white infants tough. No doubt about it. They will make you jump through hoops. Because they can. Why? Because there are twenty other couples out there competing for the infant. So they can make sure the child get's the best fit.
But...
As the majority of my comment made clear...that is NOT the case for the majority of these kids.
You want to adopt a kid without a lot of hassle.
I promise you that can happen quick and easy in the USA.
You go to the Alameda county officials. You tell them you are ready to foster a handicapped child.
They will have you set up with a teenage Down's syndrome child so fast it will make your head spin. Plus, they will actually pay you for taking the kid in.
Foster parents get financial compensation.
Then, while you are fostering this child, start the adoption process. It will take a little time, but the paperwork isn't too bad. Plus, you already have the child in your custody, and I *promise* you, you won't have other parents trying to poach him from you.
So there you have it.
It is actually pretty darn easy to adopt.
If you are willing to adopt a child with some issues and problems.
You want a teenager with anger management issues?
You can adopt that very, very easily.
You want to adopt some white infant with no known health issues from a healthy mother with no drug addiction issues or mental health issues?
Yeah, you will find that difficult.
