Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Atlanta Fed Forecasts a Thirty Two Percent Growth Rate in the Third Quarter, with the GDP Numbers to be Released Right Before the Election, October 29The Atlanta Fed models the forward GDP for the 3rd quarter. It's current estimate comes in at 32%. That is up from 31.7% yesterday. In their own words: The GDPNow model estimate for real GDP growth (seasonally adjusted annual rate) in the third quarter of 2020 is 32.0 percent on September 17, up from 31.7 percent on September 16. After this morning's housing starts report from the U.S. Census Bureau, the nowcast of third-quarter real residential investment growth increased from 39.3 percent to 46.1 percent. The next estimate will come on September 25.The New York Fed's forecast is lower -- but still high. They're forecasting an (annualized) quarterly growth of 15.63%, about half of what Atlanta forecasts. Still, given that a quarterly growth of 4% is considered strong growth, anything from 15% to 32% will be... acceptable. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Quarter over quarter, which makes it less impressive that it reads, but it basically means that Trump was right...again...and that opening things up will allow most of the economy to come back. Some businesses are screwed by the extended shutdowns. Restaurants and what-not. Others are screwed by the riots. But the demand is still there so business will return, even if it isn't to those people. My parents mentioned in the last post are a good example of not catching up to politics or the truth. Most Americans are busy or set in their ways, and distracted but eventually people do, as a collective, figure things out. Many are at that state now with Trump. Either they weakly voted for him in the last election, or they now see the light. The left base will always be the rabid base. And worse now, so I imagine it will continue to shrink. They know this too that is why they want illegals voting, mail in fraud and felons being able to vote. Anything they can do to beef up the voter base because it is shrinking. I have a lot of hope now. Posted by: artisanal 'ette at September 22, 2020 04:58 PM (rjE57) 44

We're going to work with the city agencies, with the state," de Blasio told reporters during a City Hall press briefing Tuesday. Posted by: Alexandria Donkey-Chompers at September 22, 2020 05:00 PM (PbpT7) I'm just gonna say it, because I'm gonna say it. Most people.. I don't care who, get really sick and tired of women telling them what to do all the time. This sureness we see from some of these crazy bints is VERY off-putting. When the barmaid gets all uppity, most people don't like it. When Cummala gets that smug look on her face, almost everyone at least THINKS about slapping it off. And yeah, I think the feeling is even more intense, when said bint is an Of Color woman. Sorry, you just haven't earned it yet, baby. I don't know of any democrats switching over. I live in a very lefty area and all I know are lefties. I get leftism shoved at me at work, while watching tv, listening to the radio, meeting the kids' firend's parents, at band rehearsal, at church. My only escape is when I'm sleeping. And I don't even talk politics with people. They assume everyone agrees with them, so talking politics is a bonding experience for lefties. It drives me insane. But I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he was actually recruited to do exactly what he's done, and on the timetable that its happened. A pro-Antifa "journalist" in Portland, who unusually for Antifa has very nice elbows, decided she isn't going to riots anymore because the people there are so toxic. I don't have any screenshots 4 examples, but if u trust me, I've witnessed it first hand way more than I should be able to admit. Knock it off. Do we really need to talk about intersectionality She continues to be attacked for genocidally ignoring trans people, and responds: AS AN AUTISTIC BI SYRIAN WOMAN (who has been a victim of verbal, violent and sexual abuse) I'M OFFENDED BY IT ALL. ok bye. It's like my rescue godkitty. Over time, he has realized (by repeat observation and actually being there) that the worst thing his forever mama is going to do to him is dote on him a lot. But at first, he was afraid of a lot of things. Whatever non-contrived demographic you pick, regardless of whatever they might emote in public, probably most of them are kinda a little worried about sh*t getting out of control, in a "sh*t just got real" sense. My guess is that there are perhaps a plurality of such people who may mentally associate terrible things to Trump, but from 2017 until just before Spring Training 2020, they were living in boom times in pretty much every sense of the word and that's their safe space. Living in boom times essentially dissociates their paradigm political fears from themselves -- it's abstract, not visceral. What's visceral is the boom times. They need to go there and conclave there until they can figure out how to make Shiny Happy People Land actually work without going through the Burning Times. THESE people can't get there at this time and they *won't* get there if they don't survive to the next opportunity. They may hate Trump, they may loathe the mere mention of his name, but are learning that the enemy of my enemy is not always my friend, and the are getting that lesson, which they insisted they wanted, good and hard. They want a do-over. They don't get a do-over in "one-man-one-vote-one-time land" and they are realizing that. Posted by: SFGoth at September 22, 2020 05:10 PM (KAi1n) 149

@196
some of these swing states have lower-level judges ruling that ballots can be accepted after the deadline set forth in the state's OWN LAWS. That's a problem--the judges can't decide its "such an emergency" that voting laws are suspended. It didn't work during the Civil War, and it shouldn't work now (and this is basically what the USSC decided in Bush v Gore--you can't make up voting law on the fly) But I'll bet a dollar that a John Roberts court was going to uphold it, the same way they "upheld" the church restrictions recently. That decision was laying the groundwork so they could rule their hands were similarly tied when it came to means of voting That's why RBG's death announcement is such a disaster for them, and that's what makes me think they didn't plan on it. NC is accepting ballots 9 days after ED?
Posted by: Ha at September 22, 2020 05:12 PM (iINbI) Trump/Republicans need to shut this shit down now in all of these states who have decided to rewrite election laws. Posted by: TheQuietMan All of the state rulings I've seen is that they are stretching the limits on how long after the election they can count the ballots that they've already received. I've not seen a ruling that says they can keep counting ballots RECEIVED for weeks after the election. An important distinction. Remember, in Michigan in 2016, Jill Stein called for a complete audit of the ballots that were cast. The DemonRats shut that shit down fast, once all the fraudulent ballots started being revealed. Trump's crew will make sure to call or a complete impound of all ballots cast on election day, a complete accounting of every single box of ballots that arrive after 11/3, and call for recounts of all ballots received AFTER the election. There is a way to beat this ballot harvesting shit. You have to have boots on the ground in every single precinct and be willing to stay and count until your fingers fall off. That's a problem--the judges can't decide its "such an emergency" that voting laws are suspended. It didn't work during the Civil War, and it shouldn't work now (and this is basically what the USSC decided in Bush v Gore--you can't make up voting law on the fly)
But I'll bet a dollar that a John Roberts court was going to uphold it, the same way they "upheld" the church restrictions recently. That decision was laying the groundwork so they could rule their hands were similarly tied when it came to means of voting That's why RBG's death announcement is such a disaster for them, and that's what makes me think they didn't plan on it. Well, "Bader" in German is the "name for an attendant in a public bath house", so I would think something bunny-related would be okay.

409 The South was pretty clear about its cause for war being slavery. The North was also fairly clear about its cause for war being keep the union intact.
Slavery was a serious economic issue for the elite ruling class of the South. Buying them out might've been viable, anything else would've resulted in conflict. Posted by: Skip at September 22, 2020 05:30 PM (OjZpE) Skip, you have to get up in the morning. Sundown doesn't have to get out of bed for a couple of days, as long as the speed and B-vitamin shots don't wear off first. Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg at September 22, 2020 05:56 PM (sy5kK) 421

It would have just died out on its own, just like it did with almost every European country. The UK had banned in the 1830's, it was a natural progression.
I don't buy into the idea the civil war was all about slavery. Eventually it would have been voted out. Posted by: Blago at September 22, 2020 05:44 PM (gkdnV) Slavery ended in Europe because it was never fully part of the economy the way it was in the South, or in other parts of the world. The slave trade was largely Mediterrainean in nature, starting with the Greeks and Romans and shifting to the muslim countries. That's different than the South, where economic and cultural life centered around the cotton and tobacco economy. Slaves were an integral part of Southern society and you weren't going to get rid of them without massive disruption to the southern economic and political elite who profited off those industries. Exactly. It's cute how some people think a National Divorce would help.
That's why the Civil War was going to happen even if the southern states had been allowed to secede in peace. Sooner or later, the two nations would brawl. See Korea. Posted by: Citizen Cake at September 22, 2020 05:26 PM (HmZuC) Almost at once, likely enough. Causes for instant friction: Fugitive Slaves would now have "Canada" hundreds of miles closer and no fugitive slave law requiring them be sent back. The South wanted to expand into the Caribbean, basically at once. This would bump right into the Monroe Doctrine. Posted by: Oldcat at September 22, 2020 06:24 PM (eoQWY) 429

The South didn't believe him. Posted by: Grump928(C) at September 22, 2020 05:53 PM (yQpMk) One trigger for the South was that Federal Mails were routinely searched by Southern states for anti-slavery information to suppress it. Come Lincoln, the spoils system would create many many jobs in the South for either imported or converted Republicans who would not violate Federal law to do this. Once the Rs were planted in the South in any way, Slavery would be on the table in local politics. Posted by: Oldcat at September 22, 2020 06:28 PM (eoQWY) 430

Even in 1860 you could see the difference in efficiency of North versus South, but they clung even harder to Slavery all the same. As Lincoln said, war is a lot more expensive. It didn't go very far, as neither side was interested - the North didn't want to pay and the South wanted the slaves. Hey, Joe. "Imagine the world without nuclear weapons!"
I have: That's September 1, 1939 to August 2, 1945. 65,000,000 human beings murdered in the most horrifying ways possible. Entire continents laid waste. How was that stopped? Nukes. Posted by: Sharkman at September 22, 2020 05:39 PM (BM2fS) Nukes paired with a memory of what the war was like. For the next 40-50 years most countries were run by people who knew what even a conventional all out war would look like and wanted nothing to do with it. But yes, nuclear weapons were absolutely helpful in that regard. Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at September 22, 2020 06:36 PM (4JLkY) Processing 0.06, elapsed 0.0786 seconds. |
