University of Chicago English Department Declares: We Will Hire No Professors Except for Those Working in "Black Studies"

Because of Burn Loot Murder.

The New Jim Crow is at 25% power, and people still aren't objecting. So they'll take it up to 50% and see how everyone likes it then.

Sad to say it's a non-issue. Many humanities departments de facto only accept grad students who work on race/gender. All they're doing is scoring virtue points by saying they're going to do what they would have done anyway (albeit less loudly).

The University of Chicago had controversially announced its support of free speech in a declaration of "Chicago Principles."

But as Evita Duffy notes, the University of Chicago's outright discrimination in favor of race-hustlers puts lie to those "principles."

Opposing Socialism Generates Death Threat
In March, I participated in a University of Chicago's "nonpartisan" Institute of Politics (IOP) digital initiative, called "I vote because...," where students pose with a small whiteboard stating their personal reasons for voting. I wrote, "I vote because the coronavirus won't destroy America, but socialism will."
I was naively unprepared for the onslaught of online hate and threats of violence I received. Fellow students attacked my character, intellect, family, and appearance using foul and offensive language. I was called a racist and a xenophobe. Some compared me to animals. Others declared I deserved to be bullied and that I don’t belong at the University of Chicago on account of my beliefs. I was told I was the most hated person on campus.
For days, I pored over vile posts and comments. I was in shock and emotional distress. I didn't defend myself. In fact, I didn’t respond to a single comment or post about me online, whether it was negative or positive. It wasn't until I received a death threat from one of my classmates that I made the decision to write an op-ed, sharing my side of the story and defending what I wrote on my whiteboard.
Following the publication of my op-ed, David Axelrod released a statement on behalf of the Institute of Politics condemning the violence and personal attacks I received. Although I was grateful for Axelrod's statement, it, unfortunately, validated the defamation of character students employed in calling me xenophobic and racist.

What happened to me is exactly why university imposed politics is so damaging. I hoped that my experience would have inspired students, faculty, and the administration to reexamine campus culture and recommit to the Chicago Principles. Instead, the administration and department heads at the University of Chicago created a hyper-partisan culture through emails and other official means, sending an implied message that silences debate on important issues.
By using my tuition dollars to cast themselves as moral arbiters, dissenters are automatically categorized as racist or anti-justice. This emboldens leftists on campus, who already wield an outsized voice and power. In short, it inspires a mob mentality. Unfortunately, dissenting students, who saw what happened to me, are more scared than ever to speak their minds on campus.

Make students pay the fully-burdened cost of higher education, and let industry support the departments of their choice to subsidize students in those departments. STEM would do fine. The humanities not so much. Social "science" departments might survive if enough leftist billionaires decide to pony up.

The only possible remedy for kids who actually want to learn about English literature and intellectual history is to create new rump departments. 137 I would be interested in whether enrollment is down at universities. In my small world many high school grads are opting for trades. Middle class- Upper middle class kids. Huge debt, compared to a pretty decent paycheck while attending a few classes per week. It's an easy decision for these kids. At 21 you own a house and a decent vehicle, bank account and little debt. Except the house, of course. Compared to a bachelors degree, big debt and no job. No wonder they're pissed! They're back at their parents after 4 or 5 years of some sort of freedom. Meanwhile the "knucklhead", who gives two shits about gender studies and how the patriarchy has controlled our lives has a nice house and plenty of cash....

Probably right, Roberts has made noises along the lines of "the quickest way to end discrimination might be stop all discrimination.

My theory on Roberts is once he's no longer the swing vote that matters, I see him falling in line, but we'll see. I think he's a very political justice and he can't really have that role any longer.

But I genuinely do think the guy may have been compromised in some way, something changed. Guy started out as a very conservative justice until Obamacare.

I'm reposing my hopes with online education. At a minimum, it could force universities to reduce their tuition, or the amount of income they can make from tuition. I disagree strongly - I meant to write this for Yuddisthira and others who also think Roberts will go liberal. That won't happen because of the nature of the powers of the Chief Justice.

Executive Summary - If Roberts chooses to go full left, he effectively resigns his position as Chief Justice, and Clarence Thomas becomes the new de-facto Chief Justice. I believe Robert's personal pride is too great to ever let that happen. The only way Roberts retains any authority whatsoever is if he stays with the new 5 vote conservative majority, which will make it a 6-3 majororty.

The Chief Justice handles scheduling, coordinates negotiations between the Justices, and IF he is in the majority of an opinion, he gets to pick who writes the Opinion.

BUT if the Chief Justice is in the minority of an opinion, then the most Senior Justice of the temporary 5 member majority takes over those duties, for that opinion. Clarence Thomas has seniority over everyone else on the Court now. If the 5 Justices agree on an opinion, and Roberts is not with them, Clarence Thomas is vested with all the powers he would have had.

If the 5 conservative members take on the form of a permanent majority with close agreement on many things, Clarence Thomas would become the de-facto Chief Justice. There is only one way for Roberts to stop this from happening - and this is for Roberts to make sure he joins in any 5 member decision, which turns it into a 6-3. If he does that, he keeps all of his powers and still has a lot of influence over the opinion.

After Barrett is confirmed, the new Court will be 6-3 on all but arcane and obscure matters. It has to be.

I believe Robert's personal pride is too great to ever let that happen. The only way Roberts retains any authority whatsoever is if he stays with the new 5 vote conservative majority, which will make it a 6-3 majororty.

Would love to see the judiciary knocked down several pegs, we were never meant to be ruled like this. They would been hung in the town square a long time ago. We can thank Earl Warren for much of tis.

Freedom of Speech should mean I have a right to lie to anybody. That I suffer the consequences of my lies should be almost always only in the form of an employer having the right to fire me, or a business having the right to sue me... or even a spouse having the right to divorce me, if any of them catch me in a lie.

But the government? Should NEVER have the right to punish anybody for lying, anywhere, ever. Including on a witness stand, or sitting in front of a cop/agent who is trying to get information from me.

I saw an interview of BoJo in Australia, and the questioner did the standard attack on Trump, and BoJo defended his actions fairly well. (this was last year.) Also I have seen lots of other politicians qualify the statements criticizing Trump with stuff about how how the stuff Trump is doing isn't so bad, and seems to be working, and maybe isn't wrong...

I am starting to think that many in the upper levels of government understand that Trump is right. They continue to attack since the low-IQ media and their base expect it (demand it,) and maybe a little because they hate Trump for being smarter and braver than they were, doing things like calling out china, defending borders, not taking shit from Europe, etc.

I take a different view: his goal has been to avoid any Roe v Wade type decisions that create a lot of controversy and some sort of big change to the law. Hence he tries to find some technical aspect to base his ruling on, and seeks to push as much as possible back on the legislative and executive branches. Meanwhile Congress passes vague and poorly written laws, expecting the bureaucracy and the courts to sort it all out.

To me, this is the best proof that Trump is not a dictator - in fact, he's much less of one than Obama was.

The guy follows the law.

Whether that was in his business life, when he obeyed all zoning and other rules regarding how and where his properties were built, to his taxes - even pre-paying where he had to until his true liability was established, to his presidency - he has obeyed all the rules. Where he's disagreed, he's done it in tweets and in rallies; that's it.
