Goodyear Tires Permits Black Lives Matter T-Shirts But Has "Zero Tolerance" for MAGA and Blue Lives Matter T-Shirts;
Trump Asks for Boycott

There is no other way. I'm so tired of squish Republicans refusing to boycott anything just because they didn't like the religious conservatives' boycotts in the eighties.

These corporations are using every ounce of their influence to push leftwing politics and even put targets on conservatives.

Is it not okay to boycott your enemies?

As was said in the aughts: You might not be interested in terrorism, but terrorism is interested in you.

And a lot of conservatives -- who prefer things As They Used to Be -- may not be interested in the culture war, but the culture war is definitely interested in you.

Conservatives may strongly prefer things when corporations were not constantly aligning with the hard left, and may not want to take part in any counteraction (such as a boycott), but the only way to stop the endless recruitment of corporations into the culture war is to teach a few of them that there will be severe economic consequences for doing so.

And a big loss of sales will mean the loss of jobs of executives who allowed/pushed the shift of the company from an economic actor to primarily a political one.

And that will stop the culture war -- not endless whining that we preferred non-political corporations, but we're too dainty to ever use our economic muscle to rough up a culture warrior corporation.

Conservatives will never be free of constant bullying until they understand and accept that bullies will continue bullying until they are met with the sharp shock of resistance, preferably into the soft cartilage of their noses.

Or, alternately, we can continue to just be pussies, sissies, and c*cks who encourage bullies through our weakness.

A friend commented: So Goodyear is aligning itself with urban, and largely poor, guerrilla terrorists who do not own cars, and is taking a position against the suburban and rural voters who own all the cars?

Update: the c*cks at Twitchy are in a tizzy (as usual!) and are attacking Trump for daring to suggest that corporations that want to play in the political arena should be met with political tactics.

89 Goodyear issued a statement, which basically said "Corporate didn't do it, and we tell all our employees not to be political... Except when it comes to 'racial justice and equity issues' because those aren't political "
So, basically, a denial/non apology that highlights they are for BLM because they don't judge BLM to be political.

91 It's not just enough to boycott, IMO.

If Goodyear really is getting yuge blowback over this, then it's a coin toss as to whether they will apologize, walk back, say they were misinterpreted, blame the slide on a disposable underling or claim it's all a fake.

The key here - and the left knows this - is persistence[/i[.

Let us presume, for a moment, that this slide is real and that Goodyear, facing a massive drop in sales, walks it back.

They should be FORCED to live with the consequences of their original decision. Returning to them after being spit in the face tells the suits that you can insult the deplorables, but as long as you say "whoops! Our bad!" the deplorables will come running back.

Whether Goodyear apologizes or not, no-one on the right should EVER buy a tire from them again.

Drive the nickelfuckers into bankruptcy.

I am, however, a fan of what I'm seeing with sports viewership for example - millions of people not organized into a boycott but voting with their feet and dollars.

If tonight I went to my favorite restaurant and instead of saying welcome back they told me fuck you Trumpey, they will have gone too far and I would no longer patronize their business.

Less frequent and more expensive purchasing decisions are even harder to control, because brand loyalties (or preferences anyway ... I like Mercedes the car but not the company, for example) can kick in that make organized opposition seem tepid at best as compared to, say, a restaurant situation.

In conclusion, fuck Goodyear, I don't like their tires anyway.

169 In closely related news, here's a bit of Karma coming home to roost:

Uber has been virtue-signalling out the ying-yang all year, donating massive sums to BLM and sending out groveling hyper-woke emails and press release about "white supremacy" and all the rest of the racial insanity.

So I said: Fuck these fucker, I am boycotting Uber, and from now on only taking Lyft.

But then last week, Lyft -- not to be outdone by its rival -- decided to one-up Uber and basically announce the BLACKS RIDE FOR FREE while everyone else has to pay. (To sidestep the blatant unconstitutionality of this, Lyft did a sneaky end-around by "donating" millions (that's MILLIONS) of free rides to an extremely long list of black non-profits who are then doling them out "to the black community."

So I thought -- Damn, now I need to boycott Lyft too. But I can't! Because combined, Uber and Lyft have essentially a "duopoly," two-company monopoly over the rideshare market. And for those of us who live in big urban centers and don't have a car, Uber and Lyft are our only alternative to taxis, which cost 2x to 3 as much.

But then Karma came along and saved me from my dilemma.

Because of California's new "anti-gig economy" law, and a judges ruling last week that the law stands, both Uber and Lyft announced on Monday that they were forced to SHIUT DOWN OPERATIONS IN CALIFORNIA ENTIRELY until the law is repealed. (The law forces all companies to hire all freelancers as actual full-time employees, with full-time hours and full benefits -- even iof neither the employer nor the employee wants that.)

So thanks to the liberal politician that Uber and Lyft helped to get elected in California, they' going to take a massive financial hit.

Of course, I will suffer as will countless other people like me, but at least my enemies will suffer too.

235 off topic: the walls are closing in yet again! Seen at yahoo today:

Two decades before he ran for president, Donald J. Trump traveled to Russia, where he scouted properties, was wined and dined and, of greatest significance to Senate intelligence investigators, met a woman who was a former Miss Moscow.

A Trump associate, Robert Curran, who was interviewed by the Senate investigators, said he believed Trump may have had a romantic relationship with the woman. On the same trip, another Trump associate, Leon D. Black, told investigators that he and Trump "might have been in a strip club together." Another witness said that Trump may have been with other women in Moscow and later brought them along to a meeting with the mayor.

304 There is a fascinating book "Barbarians to Bureaucrats" that walks the reader through the evolution of companies from the Vision, Entrepreneur, Administrator, Bureaucrat to Aristocrat.

The example for Aristocrat was the American Can Company that dominated in the manufacturer of cans. They were making good money and management convinced themselves that they were Masters of the Universe and began getting into investments and businesses that were way outside their core competencies. In other words, they transformed the company into a hedge fund that happens to also make cans.

That arrogance didn't work out too well.

Same difference here. I submit that while this was an unforced error on part of senior management, and likely to erase whatever goodwill they acquired over the year in a very competitive market, this is more of a signal to the Board of Directors and to the stock-holders that management has evolved into a form of Aristocracy where the company is theirs as a function of their self assigned nobility. The company is a toy to them that funds their lifestyle and their position at the company is an entitlement.

This is a sign to humble them by inviting them to take their Vanity Fair somewhere other than in the name of Goodyear.

They need to be run out because they care more about their personal vanity rather than the viability of the company.

310 If the President is calling for a boycott and it's a front page story, wouldn't it take all of 2 seconds for a CEO to get to the bottom of it and call it out as fake before they lose hundreds of millions of dollars in lost sales?

Maybe it is BS, but why is this so hard for a company to say it's fake or real? You don't have to endorse or disavow the message, just say if the memo is real or not.
Posted by: Blago at August 19, 2020 12:39 PM (gkdnV)

If it was fake, then clearly they would say so loudly. The fact that they hem and haw at a denial tells us that it's almost certainly real, but from a lower level and top management wasn't aware of it. Now they're trying to make it all go away without taking a clear position on it - but they don't realize they've got to more than that. Some low level employee has pushed them into this, but now they've got to choose one side or the other.

It's about identifying offenders who are vulnerable to boycott by conservatives and punishing them mercilessly. You only have to take a few scalps to make people conform. Muslims have engaged in relatively little terrorism in the US, 9/11 notwithstanding. Fear of arbitrary, unpredictable boycott is the tool.

Yes, most Antifa are White but that's because Progressive Whites hate White People. There's very good data on this. There was a Pew study a few years ago. They asked Whites, Blacks, Asians, and Hispanics to rate each other on a scale from 1 to 100.

Every group, except one, showed the same pattern - they liked themselves the most. Blacks liked Blacks better than anyone else. Asians liked Asians the most. Hispanics liked Hispanics the most.

Only one group didn't prefer their own race - liberal, progressive Whites. Progressive Whites showed the *opposite* pattern - they liked every other race more than their own.

Cooper is up 1% today though, so those are the humans who are sensing the impending doom for Goodyear. It will be 2 years before their private party sales recover, I would guess. The government may prop them up if Biden' elected, but regular people are still going to eschew them for at least a while if this gets any traction. 409 169 In closely related news, here's a bit of Karma coming home to roost:

Uber has been virtue-signalling out the ying-yang all year, donating massive sums to BLM and sending out groveling hyper-woke emails and press release about "white supremacy" and all the rest of the racial insanity.

==========

I don't agree with the signaling by Uber & Lyft, but I do get their problem of doing passenger pickups while not getting their cars pulled apart and drivers beaten into ground chuck by the Antifa/BLM goblin hordes. Because they have insurance, right? *eyeroll* And they're cheaper than taking some Mafia-controlled taxi service that dares to charge me $10 just to get into the effin' car, let alone the trip.

However, it's further proof about the failure of the Left. They can't win, since playing the Woke song is no protection. Note to the Progtards; if you want people to side with you in the long run, make it worth their while will you? But nooo, pay up Uber and Lyft, because you guys are EVIL CORPORATIONS who DEFILE MOTHER GAIA by letting the CONTRACTED DRIVERS actually drive NON-APPROVED VEHICLES WITHOUT APPLYING $10 OF TAXES AND UNION DUES TO THE FARE!! REEEEEEE!!!

I expect Uber and Lyft to light a shuck for Texas sometime next year.

416 A Message from Goodyear to Our Customers, Partners and Associates:

Yesterday, Goodyear became the focus of a conversation that created some misconceptions
about our policies and our company. For those not aware, a widely circulated image sparked
a strong reaction, and we wanted to take the opportunity to provide some important context
to the visual and our policies.

First, the visual in question was not created or distributed by Goodyear corporate, nor
was it part of a diversity training class. To be clear on our longstanding corporate policy,
Goodyear has zero tolerance for any forms of harassment or discrimination. To enable a
work environment free of those, we ask that associates refrain from workplace expressions in
support of political campaigning for any candidate or political party, as well as similar forms of
advocacy that fall outside the scope of racial justice and equity issues.

Second, we appreciate the diverse viewpoints of all of our more than 60,000 associates,
which are at the heart of many of the policies we establish. Fostering an inclusive, respectful
workplace is important to establish teamwork and build culture, which is another reason we
ask associates not to engage in political campaigning of any kind in the workplace - for any
candidate, party or political organization.

Third and finally, Goodyear has always wholeheartedly supported both equality and law
enforcement and will continue to do so. These are not mutually exclusive. We have heard
from some of you that believe Goodyear is anti-police after reacting to the visual. Nothing
could be further from the truth, and we have the upmost appreciation for the vital work police
do on behalf of our shared communities. This can't be said strongly enough.

I think it is more complicated that an out of control HR. I think these companies have forgotten who their customers are.
As in, "My customer is someone with a vehicle who needs tires, a small shop that provides tire care and our investors all of who trade us money and good referrals in return for products we sell"

Which anyone who has had to survive on selling knows.

But now the customer is: "The bank, the government regulator, the large wholesaler who guarantees the sales of our products, and the groups that we are trying to impress like other graduates of my university" and the people who buy your product at the street level are completely useless hicks who probably like NASCAR.

Which in a way is understandable, but it means the people hired to executives have abdicated their responsibility to actually manage the company to the HR and MBA's who have more education and certification than sense.

It's about identifying offenders who are vulnerable to boycott by conservatives and punishing them mercilessly. You only have to take a few scalps to make people conform. RANT TIME

I loathe the Lean In movement with a blinding passion. Most women, hell, most people, do not have what it takes to be massively successful at Super Duper Mega Corp. And it is insulting to tell women, and men, that they are somehow lesser people for not wanting to work 100 hour weeks and be sociopaths in order to make money that is spent on the house in which they never live and on the spouses and children they never see.

I chose very specifically not to pursue that kind of life because a. the legal practice rewards those aspects of my personality I hate the most and II. I took one look at the hours to be spent and the psychic toll to be that successful and said no, thank you.

Now, there was a point in my career in which I was making very good money and I was working the very good hours to make it and I hated who I was to the depths of my being. When I left that job, I chose very pointedly to make less than half of what I did so that I could look myself in the mirror.

That said, God bless all the people who are that driven and who work those hours at their own companies and all the rest. If everyone were like me, we wouldn't progress at all. But this notion that everyone must be a CEO or you are betraying being a woman makes me throatpunchy.

Gillette is the big one, but sine it is just a part of P&G, it's immune from customer response. I still won't buy a Gillette razor, and have been forced to find one that works. 462 The ongoing problem, even if corporations like Goodyear reverse this policy, the dedication to lef-twing causes remains. It will merely reappear or manifest itself again in a different form, such as scholarships to universities or donations to progressive causes. 466 Respectfully, you don't understand how boycotts work. Conservatives don't have to boycott every offender; this isn't about intellectual consistency.

467 91 It's not just enough to boycott, IMO.

If Goodyear really is getting yuge blowback over this, then it's a coin toss as to whether they will apologize, walk back, say they were misinterpreted, blame the slide on a disposable underling or claim it's all a fake.

The key here - and the left knows this - is persistence.

478 This thread shows why conservatives struggle to fight back against the Left. For the Moron posting all the diversity statements from other tire companies, it does not matter. Yes they are all full of SJW rot. Pick one company and take that one down. The Left knows this. What was done to the McCloskeys in St Louis does not need to be done to all gun owners, just one is fine, it will intimidate all the rest.

Guess what? This is the Alinsky Rule. Pick a target, freeze it, personlize it, polarize it.

The Right does not need to take down every tire company. Just one will do fine. Who cares that Bridgestone does the same thing? The rubble of Goodyear will serve as a smoldering example to the others to STFU and sell tires.

Stop trying to "boil the ocean" as the consultants say. Pick one, take them down hard. Then be ready next time to take the next one down.

No, what Gillette did was far worse. This was some internal training slide (official or not) that leaked. Goodyear didn't make a high production value commercial to spit in their customers' faces loudly and with pride. This was never supposed to be external or seen by the public. It was, and Goodyear's response sucked, but the two are not comparable. Goodyear is just doing what corporations do in Current Year - kowtowing to Leftist policies internally. Gillette declared war on its own customers.

668 Two thoughts:

Goodyear workers are union workers. If a group of people showed up to picket a Goodyear plant because of Goodyear's policies infringing on the Bill of Rights (freedom of speech, freedom of association, not discriminating against segments of the population), would the Goodyear workers cross the picket line? Let the plants sit idle for a few weeks and see how management likes it.

And even if Goodyear tries to walk this back, they need to be made to suffer greatly. The image of this slide with their logo is out there. At some level, this was approved my management. They can't now say "wait a minute, now that people are calling us on it, we decided we really didn't mean it." No. They must be made to pay for this decision. Their suffering will be a lesson to others not to even consider going down this path.

The banks, the government and the wholesalers can shut you down in a minute should they take a mind to, especially if you are up to your eyes in corporate debt to "maximize" whatever, and you don't have a relationship with your shops and independent outlets --that you abandoned dealing with because of "efficiency" and the fact that a lot of company execs get the job due to credentials and experience, not actually knowing the business.

And dissing your old friends and not being supportive of the whole program alienates all those potential future employers when you transfer between jobs because you have gotten enough "experience" being an exec.

Actually, there is a shelf life on tires, and storage costs money. if they are marking down 50% it means its getting close to the point that holding them will cause more losses than moving them.

Yeah, ten or so years back (maybe farther back) Firestone almost broke into Nascar. This sent Goodyear on a furious march to NASCAR offices to keep firestone away. That year NASCAR made it a rule all teams had to run Goodyear tires. Apologies for not recalling the year.

680 Goodyear workers are union workers. If a group of people showed up to picket a Goodyear plant because of Goodyear's policies infringing on the Bill of Rights (freedom of speech, freedom of association, not discriminating against segments of the population), would the Goodyear workers cross the picket line?
---------------------------

That's not how picket lines work in Union Land. A bunch of randos walking around with picket signs isn't a picket line.

It has to be members of a union, walking a picket line in support of some union cause.

Wildcat strikes are union member strikes but not authorized by the union, their picket lines are up for grabs union wise.

They're blind irrational hatred is a manifestation of their self-loathing, growing up in a Judeo-Christian society. They'd rather risk getting hung from a construction crane as long as they get to fuck teen and even preteen asshole. 693 Looking back, one of the great failures of conservatism was its continued support of Corporate America even as it offshored jobs and began caving to leftist boycotts as a "thank you" in return. I remember reading a story shortly after Trump began his trade "wars" that Chipotle or Moe's or one of those southwest chains was going to have to raise the cost of their burritos by...8 cents. The problem with the religious free-trade fanatics is that while they understand free trade is mutually beneficial (it is), they don't seem to understand that the benefits do not accrue equally across borders. They also don't understand that trade agreements don't happen in a vacuum free of geopolitical considerations. The stupid fucks who thought we'd be greeted as liberators by Iraq are mostly the same people who thought China would democratize if we only gave them unfettered and irreversible access to our markets. Catastrophically wrong on both counts.

Posted by: Mark1971 at August 19, 2020 12:26 PM (xPl2J)

I posted this in the last thread.

NASCAR does tell GoodYear how they want the tires to perform, yes, but there isn't ONE RACE where they don't have tire issues. Not one.

When GoodYear started the ad campaign "What we learn here, goes into every tire we make."

Really? You expect me to put that shit on MY car? Fuck off.

All you need to know about Goodyear is by 1974 they chased Firestone out of Indy Car Racing.

In 1995 Firestone came back to Indy Car Racing. They started winning races, and in 1996 Firestone won its first Indianapolis 500 since 1971.

By 1999 Goodyear quit Indy Car Racing. Got their butts kicked quite handily. Now they are in NASCAR where there are no competing tire brands.

708 The problem with "get work go broke" is that leftists who worm their way into these institutions and use them to expand the power of the left care about as much for the health of those institutions as a virus does for the cell it infects. I own a motorcycle restoration and repair business. I will never, ever purchase or recommend your product again. You can wear a "BLM" shirt, but not a MAGA cover in your little meetings? You suck, your tires (especially Dunlops) suck, and I am doing everything in my power to get your contracts with the Department of Defense voided. Goodyear? Goodbye.

711 That's a definitional sleight of hand.

"My slogans and causes are non-political, fair and common sense. Your slogans aren't."

All Lives Matter is by definition about "equity". It doesn't get any more equal. Not to mention that contributions to Black Lives Murders go to the Biden Campaign.

Done with Goodyear.

712 Cooper tires, the second largest U.S. brand, may well be just as woke as Goodyear. There have been some posts already that have argued that they are at least, pretty darn woke.

I think you'll often see that. Corporate bigwigs are often leftists. And even if they aren't they're cowards in the face of shrieking SJWs.

This does not mean that boycotts need be ineffective. And I'm for boycotting Goodyear and choosing Cooper instead.

My next tires will be Coopers...even if it were to turn out that as a corporate entity, Cooper is just as woke as Goodyear. I mean, I've gotta have tires. I can't hold out for moral perfection from my tire vendor.

But I'm happy to let everyone come to see Goodyear as a cautionary tale of the cost of wokeness.

714 While the top management is probably approving these things, it's the wokesters in "marketing" and "human resources" and other such arenas with useless degrees in navel-gazing who are making these choices. THEY are the drivers. and management of the really big companies is so far from the common man they wouldn't know to check if one of these goobers told them the sky was orange.

Posted by: GWB at August 19, 2020 07:50 PM (WNcIG)

715 I can't start boycotting Goodyear. I stopped buying Goodyear tires around 1970 over their crappy Polyglass radials. I haven't bought one since.

Posted by: MadMike at August 19, 2020 07:51 PM (fGuML)

716 How dumb do you have to be to try and go woke when you're a company with many competitors. I don't like the NBA or NFL, but they understand that they have more leeway to pull this stuff, because some may boycott, but fans will return because they're are no alternatives. But if you're a tire company, clothing manufacturer or any other big industry, its eady for your customers to go elsewhere. In the end these idiots deserve it for trying to appease the small psychotic minority who have no purchasing power, all they have is tweets.
