But, by stopping short of canceling the season outright and saying that it would evaluate the possibility of playing in the spring, the league offered a lifeline for some of the nation’s most celebrated athletic brands, many of which play in the Power 5 conferences. MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida man who admittedly had “maybe a little too much to drink” was caught on dash camera video riding a lawn mower on a highway, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said they caught Paul Burke, of Fort McCoy, driving the riding lawn mower in the middle of Highway 316 on Wednesday.
Video provided by the department shows Burke slurring his words and admitting that he had been drinking, although he never quantifies exactly how much he had.
A missing port worker in Beirut has been found in the Mediterranean Sea following the explosion on Aug. 4. Injured but miraculously alive, the man survived in the water for nearly 30 hours after being thrown from the port by the force of the blast. Amin al-Zahed was admitted to the Rafic Hariri University Hospital in Beirut after a sea rescue team found him and pulled him into their boat, Al Arabiya reported. Al-Zahed was weak and bloodied but still breathing. A photo of the rescue shows al-Zahed in blood-soaked, tattered clothing, being treated by a Lebanese soldier.

The Detroit News ran a story with interviews of the people who voted for Rashida Tlaib to be the Democrat nominee for the House ( which she will win handily, as her district is 90%Dem) . Some of them admired her ability to say exactly what she is thinking , no matter how crass or vulgar, that she fights Donald Trump, and many said her office in the district was very responsive to requests from constituents. The News said she had returned almost $950,000 to her district( they didn't say for what or how). They felt her opponent, Brenda Jones, who had been on the Detroit City Council for years, had done nothing for Detroit and didn't live in their district. Tlaib also had a boatload of endorsements, including the president of the Detroit NAACP. Which is interesting, considering Tlaib is an Arab/Palestinian and Brenda Jones, was black. So much for the advancement of colored people.
So now you know why Tlaib was reelected. Her constituents are living in one of the poorest areas of Metro Detroit and Detroit itself, and she somehow is getting money to them in some form. That's more important than her being a communist Islamist.

One of my closest friends has a log cabin on top of a mountain in Stowe, Vermont. Her grandfather built it in the 30s. I've spent many happy times there. Sadly, I can't stay there any longer, as she's a chain smoker and smokes indoors.

Around here (and I think this may have changed recently), it was mopeds for the DUI crowd. They were dubbed "liquorcycles" or "Duicycles".
There was some loophole in the law that allowed one to ride a moped without a license. They tried to close that up, but some of the good ol' boys in Columbia resisted that for years. Many of them were lawyers, and their clients needed transportation.

As with ALL my rifle students, at the end of lesson 2, when it seems they're going to stick with it, I gave him a copy of Patriot Post's "Founders' Wisdom" and "Primer of American Liberty" pocket-sized paperbacks. Good gunmanship begets good citizenship and vice versa, IMHO. Between them, they contain the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Washington's farewell address, Henry's "Liberty or Death" speech, and other selected important works. He seemed excited to read them, and asked why I gave them to him.
I explained that part of being a rifleman is being a good American, and part of being an American is being a good rifleman. The two can't ever be totally separated. I think he gets it, and I can safely say we're both looking forward to next week.

I know Ohio State's president and Nebraska's president voted against cancelling the season. I don't know who else, but I feel certain that Michigan, Michigan State, Maryland, Rutgers, and Northwestern did. Probably Penn State. The scenario that the D's are planning for is this:
It is late Election Night. Donald Trump appears to have won a solid electoral vote victory. He's 2 points ahead in Nevada, 3 in Minnesota, 4 in Wisconsin, 5 in Michigan, and 3 in Pennsylvania. Trump makes a victory speech, but the networks pointedly refuse to call the election for Trump in any of these states.
As the days pass after Election Day, hundreds of thousands of mail-in and "harvested" votes are counted in these states. Remarkably, more than 90% of these votes are for Biden. One by one, Biden goes into the lead in these states that Trump seemed to have won.
Numerous Republican Senate and House candidates suffer the same fate, as their Election Night leads are overcome by the overwhelmingly Democratic late ballots.
The Democratic governors of the swing states certify Biden as the winner of their state, and prepare to send pro-Biden slates of electors to the Electoral College. The networks finally happily declare Biden to be the winner in mid-November.
November may be a rough month.

I was wrong about the reasons for the moped. It has nothing to do with licensing, it's about the definition of "motor vehicle".
Under SC law, a moped doesn't count. Thus you can't be charged with DUI on a moped. And the good ol' boys refuse to change it.

Not talking to a chick for three hours on Zoom.
I mean there is a reason that a good date is taking her to dinner, then a movie and then to see a band at the bar.
It's a way of spending 5 hours together where while having only an hour or so of conversation between 2 hours of silence at the movie, 30 minutes if having your mouth full at the restaurant and an hour and a half of bands drowning out the conversation.
You only have to have 1-2 hours of quality conversational material, the last 30 minutes to an hour of which you are both generally pretty buzzed where everything seems funny.
I just can't fathom two or three hours of staring at each other on a computer.

I haven't been there but I believe you. It is a shame to see such poverty. After thinking about it, I don't think that is what Carville said about PA. He said it was Philly on the East border, Pittsburgh on the West, and Alabama in the middle. He was talking the politics of the state, not poverty. I have spent a bit of time there and I can vouch for it.

I am happy tonight because it looks like the guy I voted for for State Senator, Julian Bradley, has won (although he has only 43% of the vote - there were 5 GOP candidates in the race and he has more than double the votes of his closest challenger.) Bradley was endorsed by Scott Walker and he's the most conservative candidate. And, although this shouldn't be an issue, this year it certainly is: Bradley is black. I know (and utterly detest) the Dem he'll be facing off against: a rich "woke" white techy. I'll enjoy watching the white progressive get waxed by a black conservative in November.

In a country of 330M.
My sister is a teachers' aide in a public school in Michigan. Her school did a parent survey on what to do for this fall. 80 something percent of the parents want their kids in school full time. They aren't getting it. The school is kindergarten and first grade. The kids will be in school 2 days a week, with the rest being remote learning.I think the schools are stuck with what the state of Michigan has mandated. The state of Michigan doesn't give a damn what the students or their parents want.
I really feel sorry for the students. They're getting screwed over for something that isn't a threat to them. Sadly, the same parents who are being treated like 8 year olds who can be trusted to make decisions for their own children, will probably continue voting for democrats who treat them like this.

yeah. Funny that Asian means different things to different people. I know today the word is probably banned. But I always found it interesting that when an American in the old America said "Asian" they meant Oriental as in Japanese, Chinese etc. But in the UK, Asian almost always means Pakistani or Indian.

But you can't help but notice the contrast of a very humble, but well-maintained trailer next to something that looks like a poster child for disease and pestilence and not recognize that you can live poor, but with dignity. Today, salon owners and workers from all over the state protested on the steps of the state capitol about their situation -- they're not allowed to operate indoors. I'm aware of two other small protests like this in teh past two weeks in the small county where I live.
White women most of them, probably also a lot of Asian nail salon owners, who were FED. UP. with being treated like kids and slammed to the ground after they'd worked their fingers off to get their salons operating with plastic barriers, mask requirements, every other chair occupied, waiting chairs never occupied, wiping down and sanitizing every hour, etc. They're not able to support their families or do the thing they love -- in some cases they're also educators.
If Trump got out here and said "Tell me what you want ME to do to get you back in business" and then did it, he'd make a dent in November.

Bathroom was a little more work. The old vent sat on the curved shoulder of the roof, and had wedges cut from plywood to "flatten the curve" of the opening so the vent would fit. The plywood had rotted and delaminated, and was not fit to use. So I made shims from some dense pink Styrofoam insulation board, and glued them around the opening, and then laid down some caulking, and set the vent in place, and ran in Tek screws with my cordless driver. Got caulking all over everything, too.
And, because the staircase was right there, I chipped some failed body filler out of a large dent on the shoulder of the roof just aft of the bathroom, and used Tek screws and a claw hammer to pull up a large part of the dent, making it less deep, though nowhere near perfect. Then I hit it with a 36 grit disc on my angle grinder, and followed up with some "kitty hair" body filler, which is both quite strong, and waterproof. I will have to rough grind the set up filler, then follow up with a smooth coat or two of regular body filler. There are numerous old repairs of this nature on the body of this vehicle. Just trying to make them look good again.

If anyone is interested in my Crown Vic misfiring problem from last night, I found it. Remember it was a #7 and #5 misfire. This afternoon I got it under the shade tree (for real, too hot to pull it in the shop), and the problem became evident soon once I got the plastic air intake mess out of the way.
THe #7 coil unit was loose to the touch, not seated right. The little screw holding it wasn't tight. More on that later. I yanked the assembly out, and there was dried anti-freeze corrosion on the spring thingy all the way up the boot to the coil assembly itself. Removed the spark plug and it was quite worn. Looked in good shape otherwise, but the gap had grown. These are the original Motorcraft platinum plugs, with 92K miles on 'em.
Now, dried antifreeze you ask. This stupid thing has one of those loathsome plastic intake manifolds, which is an abomination. About 2 years ago, it started leaking. They had the dealer replace it. The old one was all plastic, IIRC, but the replacement had an aluminum fitting for the radiator hose, which is where the main problem was, I think.
Well, when they replaced the manifold, they didn't clean out the spark plug holes or coil assembly. They didn't even clean the injectors. There was still dried antifreeze crud on all of it. Looks like they just pulled it off, replaced the manifold, and just popped everything back in.
The plug was worn, and I just got a new coil and plug (well, 8, which I'll replace tomorrow or sometime), installed that, and then cranked her up.
Ran fine. I was hoping the #5 misfire was just an artifact somehow (it detects this from the acceleration profile of the crankshaft via the position sensor) of #7.
And it seemed to be. After it warmed up, I got it on a straightaway and floored it. It was sluggish still, and the misfire code tripped again.
It was #5. *And #4*. No problem with #7. I had wiggled and played with all 8 of the coils, so #4 looks like it didn't like wiggling.
It's drivable as long as you don't get down on it too much. The #5 misfire won't show up unless you get it under load. And #4 didn't show up again at all after I cleared it.
So, I'm going to replace all the plugs, and clean all the coil assemblies. I thought about trying to just clean the #7 one, but just got a new one. I don't want to buy 7 more new ones, but I have a feeling I will have to buy another one or two.
So that's what the problem was.

There are opportunities for others in this as well, not just Trump. I'm considering branching my business out into a new direction - homeschooling.
Here in PA, parents can either homeschool children themselves, or homeschool them with paid tutors. If you go the tutor route, the tutor must hold a state teaching certification. However, this does not apply to for want of a better term "guest lecturers." I can teach history or civics or social studies at a high school level, I'd wager better than most teachers to be honest, but have no certification. I have friends with degrees in math, geography, etc. who are also not working in their fields. The plan is a sort of "guest lecturers guild," where we could discuss various topics with groups of kids via Zoom or whatever, with exams and testing to be proctored by the parents, so that they are still the actual teacher. Nobody's going to make a living at this full time (not yet anyway) so I could basically 1099 lecturers as needed.
There are companies that provide an entire homeschool experience, but it's quite expensive. An "a la carte" option would be popular, I think. Homeschooling your kids but having trouble with the algebra yourself? We can help. Enjoyed history class but can't really explain the background of the American Revolution? We can help. Don't know Chile from chili? We can help with that, too.
I have a meeting with some homeschoolers this week to discuss this with people in the know. Does the Horde Mind think this is a feasible idea? Let me know and wish me luck.

I told her to look into it so that when the lockup ends she can flaunt her teaching chops and not the barrista skills her co-graduates are working on

If we are talking about Federal election reform, mandate that all ballots have to be received by election authorities on Election Day to be counted.
Oregon is vote by mail - but all ballots have to be in the hands of election officials by 8 PM on Election Day. If you want to fill out your ballot on Election Day or a day or two before, there are drop-off points where you can turn in your ballot.
Oregon may have other issues, but it can count virtually all ballots Election Night - you don't have ballots coming in for days and days after the election.

Stuff I am using is called "Mini-Fiber". It is basically gelled polyester resin with milled glass fibers in it. Sets up real hard, and is tough to sand, but is waterproof, so it makes a good backing if the metal beneath it is unsound. White filler is soft, easy to sand, and porous, and moisture can wick through it.
They make a "Maxi-Fiber", too, with long strands of glass fiber in it. Stronger, but harder to work with.

The president is chosen no later than January 6, 2021.
If states don't have their votes certified by that date sufficient to have their electoral votes allocated to a candidate, then those ECs don't get counted.
If neither candidate receives 270 ECs, on 1/6/21 the House votes by state delegation for president. Each state gets one vote, no matter how many representatives that state has (ie, Montana's one Republican rep counts for exactly as many votes for pres as Cali does with 53 mostly D reps).
Currently there are 26 majority R states, 23 D, and 1 tied (PA). That's not really likely to change much in the D's direction.
The Dems' election fuckery is going to make things interesting, but the more they fuck things up the more likely it is that their own states won't be able to certify their ECs by 1/6/21.

homeschooling programs to see if tutoring help wouldn't be appreciated,
that way you can piggyback on other groups' advertising, start small and
low budget, and have some help finding parents/customers.

Here in Blueville, parents are stretching laws as hard as they can to get their kids off their hands come fall (come now, actually).
There's a daycare loophole that lets parents drop kids off at a YMCA or park facility that runs "camps" and whatnot and groups the kids in twelves or tens. So the trick is to drop the kid off with his/her laptop and work materials, do their online learning all day by their onesie, and then the kids get to socialize and re-create together (as long as htey don't touch, pass a ball, or do anything else that could instantly kill them).
Rumors are also going around of little underground homeschooling gangs that sound very much like what you're describing.

Miley is warming up to grits now, too. She had never had them before, thinking they were "like oatmeal". She said her first grits were only going to be mine, not at a restaurant. I made some for her a while after she got down here.
She wasn't too enthusiastic, but noted they didn't taste like what she imagined. And then, they slowly began to grow on her. I'd get some at the Waffle House and she'd eat a few bites, or we'd be eating at my folks and we'd have some and she'd eat a little bit.
The last time, she helped herself to a full serving.

I think its the consistency of boiled okra, the slime that puts most people off. But it's quite good to me, and that slime just slides right down, tickling the taste buds. Miley loves it now.
Much fried okra has a lot of breading -- like little tater tots with a slice of okra inside. That's the way all the restaurants around here serve it, and they make pre-breaded frozen okra like that.
My "family recipe" is much lighter breading. Corn meal (some use buttermilk), but if the slime is right, enough corn meal will stick. My grandmothers and mother would pan fry it like that.
I got to deep-frying it like that, and got to using fish fry mix for the breading, and that's damned good. Miley has been experimenting with this, and has come up with a pretty good method. She likes slightly bigger pieces now than when we first started.

I like to put "biscuit pieces" cuts of country ham in field peas, and of course turnip greens. She loves that, and that's because the salt gets diluted and helps salt the whole pot. Don't have to add as much.

'Tween 10:20 pm Central and five minutes ago, it was Tom Sims Bourbon, aged four years. Very similar taste profile to Jim Beam, but easily 2x to 3x smoother. Out the door with a handle-jug for just under $20.50.

About 100 hours over the past few weeks, on the ladders. My feet are screaming out in protest. I feel you, bro!
Cutting out all the old, failed caulking with a utility knife is HARD and DIFFICULT work.
Installing new, superior Polyurethane caulking sounds easy, until you realize it has to be "tooled" to have a good appearance under the subsequent paint.
And then, artistry intrudes.
Oh, and I've been painting, too.
Illustrative. The floor level of this house is 4ft. 9in. above ground level. There is very little to be done here which is NOT done from the rungs of one ladder, or another. My 17 ft. ladder barely reaches the fascia of the normal pitches around the house.
I had to borrow a 24 ft. ladder to reach the lower peak for trim caulk and paint.
And use the same ladder to hoist aloft the 6 ft. Wagner ladder to set on the mid-roof to reach the higher peak atop the front-view of the house.
I'm embarrassing my 20 yr younger neighbors in their early 40s, to keep up with me in local household maintenance.
It does hold their attention though, when I talk with them of Civics, Principles, Rights and THEIR obligations thereto.

First, Uber has for months been sending out all these infuriating virtue-signalling emails about Black Lives Matter and Covid-19 and yadda yadda, to the point where I just said, "Fuck it, I'm boycotting these assholes. Instead, I'll just take Lyft."
Yeah, there are fewer Lyft drivers and thus a longer wait, but I just couldn't tolerate Uber taking all my money and giving it to communist revolutionary groups.
BUT NOW...
Not to be outdone, Lyft has just sent out an email that says, when you strip away the euphemisms, that BLACK PEOPLE GET TO RIDE LYFT FOR FREE, while everyone else has to pay.
And to top it off, it was signed "Valerie Jarrett, Lyft Board Member and Former Senior Advisor to President Obama."
To repeat:

Now I need to boycott both Uber and Lyft -- but they essentially have a duopoly, and if you want to do rideshare in America, you pretty much are limited to Uber or Lyft (except in a few places with local companies).
So now I have no choice but to fund these unconstitutional douchebags.
The email is oozing "euphemism" and "code phrases," but the upshot is, when disentangling all the hidden verbiage, that Lyft is donating 1.5 million rides to black customers only. And when those run out, you can be sure another million or so will be donated, ad infinitum.
So now there's a caste system with ridesharing -- free for some races, but not for others, who have to pay jacked-up prices to finance the free rides.
Here's part of the email, cut-and-pasted:

Experienced a church like that in the real world. Travelled for work a bit in the 80's got stuck in Atlanta when the 3 day job turned into a 2 week affair. Back when the Lord and I were still in discussion about my qualifications I wandered into a church where I was definitely noticable. One of the more memorable experiences of my life. There were so many mothers and grandmothers trying to feed my skinny white behind at the potluck afterwards it was suprising that they didn't charge me extra for the flight home.

How does Lyft know you're Black? You book those rides ahead of time and agree on a price, which is sucked out of your credit card on file. When I got an Uber account I didn't report my race.
Moreover, I sometimes book rides for people other than myself. Is it the person who rides, or the person who books the ride? If the latter, some enterprising Black person ought to offer wypipo their ride-booking services for which they'll charge say 50% of what the ride would have cost.

I'm gonna guess that this is a case of being a lie because it hides the truth. So I don't know anything about the full real history of the school or buses and even her own history but I would guess that it's possible her story about being the second year being bussed to the school is true, meaning she would have been sent to another school if that wasn't the case. So she wants it to be implied that she was in the second set of black students being sent to this school ever instead of just taking the bus and there were already lots of black kids attending the school because it was their district.

The 'Ark' case said very clearly that a person born to two LPRs was 'just as much a citizen as a natural born citizen' with regard to travel / re-entry to the US. It did not say the are 'Natural Born Citizens'.
