If they were independent, I suspect they wouldn't have survived this long. The sustained negative growth is something no CEO would have been able to survive and no company weather.
But, since it's a small part of Disney through ABC, it gets a lot of support.
And, of course, the fact that they are supported by the fact that they are regularly included in cable packages and have long ago negotiated very generous terms for themselves in those arrangements.

You know, the political left has certainly played a role in destroying sports. But it's not exclusively the political left. Sports with a large number of black players have increasingly adopted a ghetto-like culture. Think Randy Moss, who was quite a while ago now. That's not overtly political, so much as cultural. Maybe socio-political. But it's not pure SJWism. There's a lot of things that have gone haywire with sports for a long time now.

I remember seeing a sprint years ago and it was like 5 black guys from various countries. and one red-haired Irish runner. Yeah, the white guy came in last---like 100th of a second after the others.
Then it dawned on me that this white kid would probably beat 99.5% of black guys in a sprint---just not the cream of the crop among black runners.
Same with sports--we only see the cream of the crop at the highest levels.

I'm really pissed off about this entire stupid drama. Harbaugh , who I am not typically quoting as an Ohio State Alum, has an excellent point by point statement as to the exact number of tests over the exact number of weeks and the exact number of positive test results Michigan Football has had in the last eight weeks.
Something like three when student athletes first returned to campus, NONE in staff, coaches, etc. and no athlete has tested positive in the last 325 plus tests performed in the last month. They have full protocols in place that their players are following that were developed and implemented by medical professionals at U/M . As have other schools, particularly those associated with medical research hospitals.
From several AD's and coaches statements, it appears that their dingbat university presidents have never discussed nor visited their athletic facilities to observe in person the protocols. Yet they are making very detrimental decisions about athletes being able to practice and play with zero information other than the stupid shit they read or see online or their lawyers are telling them.
Ohio State's new female president doesn't officially begin her job until the 24th, although she has been on these conference calls.
For those who say they don't care about sports or think it's great that college athletics may be cancelled, you need to look at the bigger picture. This stupid , non scientific rationale for locking down sports is the same rationale being used to lock people out of the jobs. None of this is science based, it's all political and power bullshit.
John Force, 16 time NHRA champion announced over the weekend he was shutting down ALL of his racing teams for the remainder of the year. He said he cannot afford to keep his shops open and employees on the payroll and race on such a limited schedule. He has obligations to his sponsors to meet and greet fans, make appearances, etc. and none of that is happening and those appearances are part of his income for his business. He said the NHRA racing schedule is such that it is impossible for him to make the numbers work . He and his sponsors can keep his teams intact and plan to race next year, but not if he tries to race anymore this year.
There may not be a vaccine and if there is in the winter, so what? No vaccine is 100% effective and the goal posts have now been moved to where the goal is NO cases at all . None.

This isn't an exaggeration, and it was neat how the numbers worked out to be 1%/1%/1%. IIRC it's something like 1% of all kids make the high school teams, and 1% of those kids get a scholarship to play that sport in college, and 1% of THOSE kids move on to the pros.

Don't forget, we all need to be using archive today to create archives of these articles. This avoids giving them any revenue. You don't even need to go to the site yourself, just right click the link and copy the link location. Then, go to "archive.is".
The advantage to doing this is it also bypasses paywalls, so you get to read the article instead of looking at some fucking banner saying pay up.
Mozilla has started blocking this site because they're a bunch of commie scum. Other sites might start, but the internet archive is compromised now.
It just takes a minute to create the archive, and many times somebody else has already done it - so you just copy the link when the page comes up.

If I could play baseball for a living I would want to until I was 85, but nobody can really make it past around 45 (Jamie Moyer made it to 49). And if I could play for a living I'd be wiling to make a hell of a lot less than 563k a year (league minimum).

Rather than shell out $30 for some Disney BS, you flip right or left and find something free, or that you already have, or through another avenue. I played basketball until sciatic nerve problems forced me to give it up at 60+. I still enjoyed watching the NBA for the sheer talent level plus the understanding of the game. Div 1 eventually turned me off though, which is why there's an NBA developmental league.

I had a good friend who had a son who was a decent offensive lineman in high school, in a smaller Texas town. He started both his junior and senior years, and thought he was pretty good. Decided to try out for A&M's team after he graduated, went down to their football camp. After a week he showed up back home, and his dad asked "son, what you doing back here so quick?"
And he said "Daddy, they had us line up against some of the guys on the team, and I never been hit that hard in my life. I didn't even know anyone COULD hit you that hard! I'm done." He found a nice major and stuck to schoolwork after that.

Prof. Cliff Mass is a really smart guy, (and Jewish btw) and the npr station that fired him was almost put out of business about 5 years ago by selling out to the Seattle npr station. He has been the local go-to guy in Western Wa for weather events for the press for decades.
There was an amazing fundraiser to get $6 million to buy the station to public ownership and keep their format.
Prof. Mass, their part-time weather expert, was a big part of getting that money raised.
And they fired his azz because he told the truth.

I think the overall problem cable/networks and this bifurfrcated streaming world is....
A. Most content sucks and is now woker than woke garbage.
B. If you want access to all of the content you have to pay separate fees to each content provider
C. Paying for cable and the various streaming sites is going to cost hundreds of dollars a month.
So to sum up, everything sucks, it's expensive and it's woke garbage.

The whole concept of "privilege" to me is simply fucking stupid.
Some years I got RIFed from AD (but I stayed on in the Reserves) and figured it would be no problem trying to land a decent-paying job with the skill set I learned in the military. HAH! Years gone by and I can't get my big toe in the door for a decent entry-level management job in countless places. I am convinced at this point that I will have to personally know about 300 million people to have a hope of getting such a thing anywhere.
I figured being a veteran might mean something, but while that might mean a free meal at the airport, or on Veterans Day, or lots of "thank you for your service" (which is not unappreciated), when it comes to getting a decent paying job, people balk at the prospect. (So I scrape by on what I currently have because I have to do what I have to do.)
So when I start hearing about this "white privilege", I think to myself, "where's mine"?
