If they're smart, they'll do it nowish. Deep fakes will be used politically and it would behoove the Left to do it now, and give it an all-in effort. Do exactly what you said. Make a deep fake of Trump talking about the wiles of nascent, vivacious 15 year old girls. Let him defend it - correctly - as a deep fake. Have the press on board in advance to push the narrative for a couple of news cycles and then slowly acknowledge the possibility and eventually quit covering it and let it fall out of the news as "unverified and possibly fake video of Trump ..."
The whole op would take a week. And then when evidence surfaces of their own perfidy, they can hide behind "deep fake" as well, and it will be taken as a reasonable conclusion by everyone. After all, they did it Trump and tore him a new one over it, only to have to walk it back.
It is the best insurance policy against evidence that I can think of. They can frame the whole thing in the court of public opinion and pick up vicarious immunity by pushing the state of the art right now.

1. There was a decision somewhere higher up in DOJ to back off and let Florida handle it, as the crimes for which convictable evidence existed were mostly state crimes, and
2. National security was somehow implicated (it's not clear that Acosta knew how or would have a need to know, but it was a reason given by someone at DOJ at the time.
It's very unclear what that latter point meant. It could have been that we didn't want to cross Mossad, it could have been that we didn't want to be gathering evidence against Billy Jeff, or it could have been something else.
That's not inconsistent with item 1. It may be that DOJ did not want to build a federal case, so deferring to the state case was a plausible and convenient excuse.
If Barr has any US Attorneys who aren't busy investigating the Obama Administration, maybe someone could start with Acosta and follow the threads.

The connection is obvious. Both groups are politically powerful, hate the West and are working for it's destruction. Both groups are elites and untouchable. And both sets of cops (Rotterham PD and FBI) knew these were the elite and untouchable, and so didn't bother trying to stop the crimes. Why, when no prosecuter will do anything but let them go? One might not have the status of the other, but both of them are part of the powerful.

That's been my question from the start. If this operation went on for a dozen years or more and the direct object was underage girls, where are all the rest of the victims? How many were there at one time? They would only be viable for a few years of nubility. Are there some who don't consider themselves victims or are they afraid to come forward? She's been fighting to tell her story for over a decade instead of just fading into the background. She now lives in Australia and came all the way back just to be a part of this trial. She is aggressively driving this story into the public long after the previous authorities shut it down.
