Here's a painting I received from Sobek. I enjoy Blue Jays, very colorful especially in the winter months here at the Frozen Tundra. One of the visitors that I receive at our various bird feeders. Beautiful piece of work.

As a parent I was happy my daughters never grew up to be strippers or attorneys. I can add one more occupation, Pretend K-9.

Meet The PetMorons

It's been seven months since I picked Reggie up off the side of the road. His hair has grown back, he's put on weight and been neutered. He's one of the gang as you can see. He and Maizy are duking it out while Kis is the announcer/referee. I keep expecting to hear "Llllllllet's get ready to rumblllllle!" If only he'd quit chewing stuff. Like remotes, bedspreads, sprinklers, chairs, tables...

After we lost our beloved 17yo Maine coon giant cat to a coyote, our hearts began to heal when we adopted Olive our tabby. Thursday I decided she needed a friend and we adopted Fig, a 9 week little black kitty. Mostly because I love black cats. They actually get along great and play and groom each other. Better than I'd expect in a couple days!
Pro tip: don't tell your husband you're getting another cat because he'll say no. Once he sees the little ball of fur in your house, you've won the war!

Hi Mis Hum,
BifBewalski here. I lost my buddy, Splotchy, this week. Here's a recent photo of him.
It's kinda obvious that he's malnourished and under weight, isn't it? If he were here, he'd tell you so.

Splotchy, I miss you buddy.

After all these years it amazes me how much love we have for our pets. A moving story BifBewalski. So sorry to hear of your loss. Splotchy was a great buddy.

Ruby, who could barely dip a toe in water when we got her almost 2 years ago, has overcome any hesitation. She has proven to be a good swimmer and this past Memorial Day at the lake she discovered that leaping into the water is brilliant fun. So fun we joined a dock dog group. Picture is from her first practice a few weeks ago.

I would like to share with the Horde pictures of Maceo ("May-See-O"), the rescue cat my (now former) gf got from the S.F. SPCA a few weeks ago (they got him from Fresno, about 3.5 hours southeast from here). He had mast cell cancer on his neck which they removed though it may return. His ear flap folds are probably caused by ear infection scar tissue. He also had all but about 4" of his tail amputated due to trauma - probably some jerks yanking his tail. Apparently, his medical issues scared people off. Oh, yeah, and he's now a countertenor. My fgf said that even if his cancer returns and it's malignant, he deserves love for the rest of his life. He's skittish and has a very "demure" mew, but he very affectionate and touchy-feely. Because the hair hasn't grown out on his tail stump, I nicknamed him Fingerbutt. (I can do that because I'm his godfather and also I get to pay his medical bills.) He does love a lap. - SFGoth

Who says Morons don't have big hearts? A kitteh's Godfather? Nice job SFGoth. We appreciate the happy ending to a sad story. Thank you.

I'm sorry to say that Souris (Soo-ree) had a stroke last week and my wife had to have her put down. She has graced the pet page and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Independent to a fault and as sweet a little dog as there ever was. She was nine and this was too soon and a great shock to my wife. See across the Rainbow Bridge little one.
My wife and our dogs are in Wisconsin and I am stuck in Canada unable to see them due to The Political Flu! - Regards Tom

What a shocking story Tom. 9 is way too young. Condolences to you and your wife. We hope you grace us with a photo of a new companion sometime in the future.

2 We got a new addition this week at Shep's Place, the dog sanctuary I volunteer at. A 14 year old Beagle. I get to meet her this afternoon. So we have 5 now. One adoption didn't work out so Miss Suzie is back with us.

3 Beautiful pet morons!

My new granddog, a 3 month old Keeshond, is being picked up today! I anticipate much joy from the grandsons, and nice long walks in the fall.

My Rusty is between 12 and 14 (from a rescue) and has been suffering from trachea issues. Today, he started coughing while I was trying to brush and comb his coat, and sounded so bad, and upset, by the effort, that I ended up doing a major haircut instead. Nit sure why but he didn't mind that a bit, and the coughing is sharply reduced overall. So it turned into a good thing.

Heh, we told the kids that once we had our own house we would get a cat. Well that time came and off to the local shelter the kids and I went. When mr insanity came home from work he saw "Max", our new 1 1/2 yr old orange tabby. He went to greet him and around the corner came "Nellie" a 4-6 month orange and white kitten. I got "that look" and "I thought we agreed on only 1 cat". The kids saved me with "but dad, they were cell mates!" And there was a two for one special...how could I refuse?

8 As she often does, my daughter came over this morning so her shepard could play with my standard poodle. Unfortunately, Mrs. Wrecks had left a sprinkler on to long creating a mudhole. (Tee hee. Autocucumber suggests "Michelle" as the word I meant to spell when I spelled "mudhole".) As she often does, she had prepared for work before she brought her dog and intending to just drop the dog off then proceed directly to work. Unfortunately, dog plus Michelle = big mess. She had to leave early so she could shower again.

16 Great Pyrenees dogs are really great. Gentle independent very intelligent balls of fluff. Not small dogs. Very defensive of their homes and their humans. (i think we are replacing his livestock). Their bark is menacingly fierce. ( so is their bite if you are a predator).

Remington, my GP is my mobility assistant. He helps me up, wears a stability harness with a strong handle on his back to counter my wobbles. He is distressed to be away from me. Great dog. Great great dog.

Conor and I buried the last of the barn cats, Smokey, last Sunday, I know she has been on the property at least ten years, but have no idea of her true age. She was a sweet gentle affectionate cat, and she and Conor were boon companions, and We still look over at the gazebo expecting to hear her greeting me and waiting to rub noses with Conor!

27 As always Moron pets are outstanding! I simply amazed at how everyone keeps the floor corners so clean in the pictures.

Well, sad news about our dog Breccia. She went into a coma due to the liver necrosis and died peacefully on June 15.

The worst part is that her companion/head of security cat Muffers basically willed herself to death. We got them within two weeks of each other back in 2008. Where ever Breccia went Muffers followed.

After Breccia came back from the hospitals Muffers would hide but always get in sight. We ended up giving her IVs, high calorie paste, and more but to no avail. She just wouldn't come out of her grief. She died on July 3 - about two weeks after Breccia.

We are down to one teenage cat who is afraid to go outside now because the other two are no longer around. House is very quiet too.

No plans for a new dog at the moment.

She didn't catch anything noteworthy this week, except for a small frog. I used the broom to sweep it back out.

Some days the heat seems to be affecting her, some not. We're currently having intermittent drizzle and thunder, and she insists on staying out there.

DaughterH had found a full grown GP in a nearby park and adopted her as no owner ever came forward to claim the dog. She turned out to a lovely protective and gentle dog, with a warning bark that carried for hundreds of yards.

34 Has anyone had a pet who had major surgery, seem to recover well, except for a droopy eyelid? Our 12 yo catahoula had a large abdominal abscess removed and, even though the vet says it will be fine, surgery was two weeks ago and it doesn't seem to have improved. The vet originally thought she had a tumor on her liver, but just the abscess was good news. We also discovered she was diabetic, which the vet at PetSmart didn't catch 3 months ago during her wellness exam. Anxious parents, here.

I love the pet thread. Makes me remember all of my good dogs (and cats) and my "Great" dogs and cats. I usually end up crying. But I still love it and read it all including the links.

Some pets just seem to "fit" with you. They seem to understand more and help you through difficult times. Emotionally and physically.

One of my great dogs actually turned himself into a assistant dog. I had a serious injury to my leg, and he stayed by me to help me stand and steady me when walking. He also used his body to block grandchildren from accidentally hitting my leg. Of course he also blocked my kids trying to help me up for doctors appointments. Never mean or aggressive about it, just put himself in front of my leg and refused to move. He was a great dog.

They are the hardest to lose, and there is no replacement for them.

37 Yeah, I saw the land sharks too. This year, man. 2020. I halfway expect to be woken up at some point and have someone tell me that I've finally come out of a coma and seemed to be having some pretty trippy nightmares or something.

At least the sharks aren't that big and can't hunt down people on beaches.

Yes, GP's have a mighty bark. The neighbor behind us kept their pup outside in a fenced area next to our backyard. We lived in an urban area w very small yards and that poor dog barked all night long. When I was pregnant w my son, I finally called, in tears, begging her to take him inside at night so I could sleep. Years later, before we moved, she mentioned that conversation. She said she was glad I called. (I was, too.)

The Epic Adventure Continues:

Chekov D. Siberian, the older (13 yo) cat, had knots in his long white-and-black fur that he would not let us cut out. So we made an appointment for him at the vet -- a "spa" day, if you will. We dropped him off early on Tuesday. About an hour later the groomer calls me up, and I was positive she'd say, "He carved my arms, come get him." Nope. She just had questions about his age and so forth.

Linda mentioned that she'd seen big dogs being groomed at PetSmart -- in a neck sling, so that the dog's forelegs are off the table -- and wondered if they did a modified version of that with cats. The groomer lady seemed offended by the very idea. "No, we don't do that! Your cat could strangle!" No doubt this woman now thinks I torture my cat for casual entertainment.

We picked him up at noon, combed and looking ready for a show. Since they did not say to me, "Don't EVER bring him back here for grooming!", I suppose he behaved himself.

Maybe it helped that I sprinkled some kitty weed inside the carrier before he got in. . . .

My experience, admittedly limited to 2 cats, says black cats tend to be the most easygoing and adaptable, if not the smartest. Marie-Antoinette, who loved walking on a harness and lead, was black, as is the good-natured current housebeast Wolf. And my mother's favorite cat Sparky -- she kept a sepia-tint portrait of him for many years after he passed away -- was black. He must have been adaptable and easygoing to sit for a portrait!

48 Pynchon is a very good natured and affectionate with us, but he is petrified of other people. If we ever go away for a holiday and I ask my friends to feed the cats, Pynchon will never show up while someone else is in the house. Tess, the rescue cat, greets everybody.

Our fosters have had two weeks here at Borzoi Heaven. Beast is starting to grow coat again; when he came to us he had lost almost all his hair from a severe flea infestation. We put Doppel in with our Peanut, the bestest friend ever, to learn better how to interact with people and gain some confidence.

And our Miss Dutchess, who has graced these pages, is finally out of the cast on her hock after four months. She's still not steady on it but we'll be give her some walking on a leash to strengthen it.

Probably a good idea . . . but Marie was about 7 years old in 2000 when I introduced her to the notion. I thought if any cat would adjust to it, she would. First time she wanted to wander off the pathway in our apartment complex and sniff the bushes. Second time she wanted to roll on the grass.

Third time, when I brought out the harness, she ran to the door crying, as if saying, "Let's GO!"

After she and I moved back here, Linda and I would take her for a walk on dry days. She would parade ahead of us down the walkway, tail in the air, as if she were exercising us.

Our black cat is neurotic and skittish, despite the fact he has had a charmed life since we adopted him as a kitten. If I come to him slowly enough, he will let me pet him, and then starts purring and becomes affectionate. He had a tumor in the base of his tail, which required amputation when he was about one year old. Now he has just a little stump, which he wiggles back and forth. Maybe that's what made him crazy?

I made Chekov sound like a ravening beast, when the worst he does with me is to nip to show he likes me, and he'll hiss if you comb too hard. The knots were underneath him. There was no way he'd put up with too much fiddling.

I should brush my cats more. But most of my longhairs have had very silky coats that didn't knot. Plus, unless you start when they're young, you're going to have a wrangle each time.

Chekov is okay with brushing while he's sitting on the pillow on my lap. Combing bothers him, though.

Arizona, the great red tabby-with-white Maine Coon mix, hated even the brushing -- he'd bite the brush. Fortunately his coat didn't mat very often.

71 Only ever had medium and short haired cats. So far they all have liked being brushed. When I was a kid we had a cat that liked the brush attachment used on a vacuum cleaner! On lowest suction of course, but that was the only cat I'd ever seen not afraid of the vacuum cleaner.

sfgoth, my sister had a cat with mast cell cancer on her neck. She had it removed and lived for years. I think in the end she died of plum old age. You and Maceo could go a long ways together.

81 Don't forget to brush your gp. They matt horribly bad. GP cross breeds are very good dogs too. They cross well with Anatolian Shepards. Makes them a little more robust a little heavier. That cross is the perfect livestock dog. (Sheep and goats). Headers have to be my favorites. Long ago we had a GSD that was the best....

He wanted in on everything. My sister had a black cat with the personality of Bluto. My friends had a black cat that terrorized their other two cats. After I saw all this, and heard from someone else that black cats are like that, I formed the notion that their personality gene is tied to their black fur gene.

I've had cats who shed seasonally, but she's something else. She's not bright enough to know what season it is (or what seasons are), so she cranks out fur just in case.

I usually have the roomba set to run every week night while I am at work. I ran out of filters and cleaning the old ones was not cutting it anymore, so I turned it off for a week or two while I waited for the new filters to get delivered.

Now, let me stress that the floors did not look particularly hairy or dirty yet.

The first night I came home after running the thing again. It looked like the photos you see of the late period buffalo hunts. Little piles of hair everywhere. There was so much hair, it had filled up the reservoir on the vacuum, so the brushes and spinny thing had just gathered them into clumps as the roomba turned.

So, I emptied the thing out, brushed the filter, picked up all the hair clumps, and figured, well, that should be most of it.

This exact scenario repeated for three nights.

I cannot imagine how he can be growing so much fricking hair, and shedding it so quickly- and not look bald. I think, like the wardrobe in the Book of Narnia, his coat is a portal to a universe of Hair. Or Event Horizon.

I figured, he must be going through a shedding stage, so I just brushed him. Got another tribble worth of hair off him.

Oh yeah. I have hardwood floors, and if I get complacent with brushing Lydia, the corners where the walls meet the floors start looking... furry. Just from where the air settles when the AC runs.

"01 Playlist 4"

to something like "0001_Playlist_4" so that everything would stay in order when I dumped them into clementine.

Anyway, I learned a little about module os while I did it.

Best " protector " I had was my dog Ralph. Black lab/Great Dane mix. Kids mauled him and he loved it. On 2 occasions I watched him literally put dents in my chain link fence when strangers started talking to my young kids from the sidewalk. He weighed about 150.
