So Is Minneapolis Really Hopeless?

Well according to Minneapolis police officers it is. 150 Minneapolis police officers seeking disability for PTSD

Meuser said since the killing of George Floyd, officers have felt abandoned by city and state politicians as well as the community at large.

Meuser said that most of the officers seeking disability are veterans of the department with 16 to 23 years of experience.

Several Minneapolis officers have already retired since the riots and sources tell Law Officer that "many more" are considering an early departure from the agency.

But take hope Minnehopelis residents, former alderperson and mayor Molly Hodges who oversaw the systematic structural racism has a plan for peace, love and understanding.

As the mayor of Minneapolis from 2014 to 2018, as a Minneapolis City Council member from 2006 until 2014 and as a white Democrat, I can say this: White liberals, despite believing we are saying and doing the right things, have resisted the systemic changes our cities have needed for decades. We have mostly settled for illusions of change, like testing pilot programs and funding volunteer opportunities.

These efforts make us feel better about racism, but fundamentally change little for the communities of color whose disadvantages often come from the hoarding of advantage by mostly white neighborhoods.

Yes, the white neighborhoods force black children to have babies with other young black men. Government can not take the place of a father and a 2 parent household.

Liberal whites have fought school choice because how dare you break the template of the teacher unions?

Was it the Italian-American community who teaches "Snitches get stitches"? And if I remember correctly it is the Polish-American community who stresses the fact of "Uncle Tom" African-Americans.

Nah, I'm just kidding.

The African American inner city communities face problems. To throw all of those problems under the guise of "White Privilege" is ludicrous. And the only way to correct those problems are for the black race hustlers and white do-gooders to realize that they have been the driving force and the causation of this unrest.

1. Wearing a mask has not been scientifically proven to prevent the transmission of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes CoVid-19;

2. Human beings exhale CO2 as part of our normal respiratory process;

3. Wearing a mask has been shown to cause a dangerous buildup of CO2 in a human being's lungs;

4. On April 2, 2007, the United States Supreme Court ruled in Massachusetts v. EPA, 594 U.S. 497 (2007) that CO2 was a "pollutant" for purposes of the Clean Air Act;

5. On December 7, 2009, The EPA made a formal finding that CO2 endangers public health;

6. Any government Order requiring the wearing of a mask is an Order compelling a human being to self-poison his or herself with a dangerous pollutant, and is therefore a violation of our human and civil rights secured under the United States Constitution;

213 So I have been watching a free preview of the History Channel shows lately. Today they show that they are now offering the series Modern Marvels.

Season 1 Episode 1 is The Grand Coulee Dam in Washington state. Pretty amazing episode.

Sets everything up by talking about the situation in America at the time with farmers not being able to get irrigation water to their crops and lots of dust storms and no farming able to be done. Unable to control the Columbia River.

Thousands out of jobs. Families living on the side of the road out of their cars. Men volunteering to risk their lives to help on this massive dam project that would setup power and irrigation in the area for the next century.

Talked about how they built small towns in the area just for the thousands of workers that needed to be in the area to work on the project. The company in charge of the project even build a hospital to treat injured workers. They also build a massive cafeteria building to serve hundreds of workers at the same time. Hot meals that they had not been used to having since the Great Depression.

Just a massive undertaking and a massive achievement. Also talked how lots of lessons were learned and applied from the previous completion of the Colorado Dam (now known as the Hoover Dam).

That one dam project to harness the power from the Columbia River led to massive improvement in the quality of life of east Washington state. Irrigation for crops, power for electricity, etc.

Got me thinking about just how much we take for granted in this country.

We live in a time when all this infrastructure has already been built for us. Dams, power stations, irrigation, water systems, etc. None of us had to put in the labor and risk death to see the benefits. In fact, those who did risk their lives and put in the effort and labor would never live long enough to see just how influential the fruits of their labor would be.

Another thing that stood out was seeing all those gritty white men doing the work. Gritty white men who today would be cursed by the Left, the Burn-Loot-Murder crowd and feminazis.

You look around this country at all the infrastructure --- dams, railroads, skyscrapers, highways, water systems, energy systems, etc --- all built by gritty white men.

Sad to realize we now live in such a comfortable time in American history that the majority of the country has now decided that everything those gritty white men built is bad and needs to be destroyed.

Unfortunately, those same people wanting to tear everything down have zero realization of what grit and determination and hard work and labor it takes to build.

Without looking it up, I'm pretty sure GBU was shot in Spain. A lot of the landscape there looks like that of the U.S. Southwest and northern Mexico; it was part of why the conquistadores found the area congenial.

I did look it up and Spain, a studio in Rome and a location in Mexico were used according to the site.

But TJM might know if the scene in particular was a location or studio shot.

To be honest I looked it up before posting the quote cause I thought it was all shot in Spain.

268 many many moons ago I went with a buddy of mine to help an old black lady do some things around her little house in Houston's 3rd Ward. My friend volunteered with her doing reading classes for adults.

I notice a framed letter on her wall that lauded her for her work with the democratic party in California and that led to quite a conversation.

She had been employed as long as she could remember up until her retirement and she still kept busy. She told us about the time as a young girl heading off to her job one morning in 1954 that she was seeing something that wasn't right. There were men sitting on their front porches drinking.

It was something new and she knew it was trouble. She was telling us about the beginnings of the welfare that was targeting the black community and she told us she knew it was going to destroy their way of life to allow the men to hang around and not work.

She currently had an adult son living with her that did not work. He was probably 50 at least. She had a car that she kept in his name and she declared no other possessions except her house in order to keep her own stipend up as apparently they audited for personal wealth in Texas to determine need.

And man did she see things clearly. It galled her to realize she had worked her entire life, had given so much energy for others and now she was stuck living as a pauper dependent on social security and whatever other resources she could squeeze by on.

Ironically, the next available Season 1 episode was about Mount Rushmore. During that one, they talked about how the sculptor was a part of the Ku Klux Klan. And how at the time, the KKK was a massive organization in the USA, with hundreds of thousands of members across the country. They showed some scene of a huge KKK march in what looked like Washington D.C.

Got me wondering if that was part of the brouhaha regarding Trump's speech at Mount Rushmore? That the sculptor was a KKK member. I thought the issue was with the Presidents and their connection to slaves. I hadn't read anything about the sculptor and the KKK. But I also wasn't paying that much attention to the left's whining either, so I may have missed that.

Aside from that, pretty interesting episode in that they showed how he did practice scuptures in smaller sizes and then took them to the area to see how the sun reflected off them, etc. Also that they had to tilt one of them, because there was a crack developing.

Just fascinating. It's just such a shame this sort of stuff is not taught in schools. I think kids and teens would have such a better understanding and perspective of what it took to build this nation and wouldn't take things for granted as much.

If I were a history teacher, I would be writing my lessons around a day of watching one of these episodes. There's a week's worth of material in just the lessons learned in the Grand Coulee Dam episode.

Episode I am watching now is The Panama Canal. And the amazing thing is Season 1 was 1992-1994. Series lasted to Season 19 in 2015.

Unfortunately, those same people wanting to tear everything down have zero realization of what grit and determination and hard work and labor it takes to build.

Of course, research is showing that black individuals have a higher rate of diabetes and heart disease, have increased amounts of inflammatory markers as part of genetics, and other physical attributes that they can manage but not prevent.

Pointing that out is probably racist or something, because science and medical research is racist.

So you like hurricanes and mosquitos.

My sole source of Pop Tarts was my mother's mother and she doled them out like they were gold.

I grew up the kind of poor you only see in magazines these days. Mom would ration everything, down to the count of beans. She'd home make cookies then we could have one a day, because they wouldn't last otherwise. She grew up in the depression living mostly on donations of food like stuff the supermarket was going to throw out. You cut away the bad parts. One can of Campbell's soup between a family of 6.

I learned a lot of valuable lessons growing up that way.

430 The African American inner city communities face problems. To throw all of those problems under the guise of "White Privilege" is ludicrous. And the only way to correct those problems are for the black race hustlers and white do-gooders to realize that they have been the driving force and the causation of this unrest.
++++++++++++
Is it? Is it ludicrous? I would argue that it isn't. It's cynical. It's depraved. It's evil. It's disingenuous. But it isn't ludicrous.

The race hustlers and do-gooders fall into two groups, as most things fall into two groups: the leaders and followers. Those who are driving the bus know precisely what they are doing. They are doing it on purpose. They are driving that bus to a terminal at which they wish to arrive. The riders find some opportunity in being riders - whether is acceptance (I believe what you believe and you accept me for it), for material benefit (I get free shit), to find an outlet for violence and aggression (I get to riot and hurt people and things).

The true believers are few and far between in both groups. There is a leadership corps that is doing this very much on purpose and their duped or ignorant or avaricious or malevolent followers participate because they see an interest in doing so.

It isn't ludicrous. It is intentional. And it is evil. And the number of leaders and middle managers are so vast they occupy most positions of authority and influence.

Guess you all better line up at the Gov't offices to turn in that extra "white privilege" you been stashing away in your basement.

I think that can only happen at the poles during their winter.

When my kids were really little, we used them as bribes to entice them to get ready for church quickly. As soon as they were dressed, they could go downstairs and have a Pop Tart while we finished getting the littler ones and ourselves dressed. In my defense we had to get 7 of us out the door by 8:30 am and let me tell you, bribery works.
Posted by: bluebell at July 10, 2020 04:26 PM (/669Q)

No shame in that game.

We used pop tarts as special treats on long flights to overseas posts. Toddlers stuck in a plane for twelve hours or more tend to get fidgety. My plan was to have treats and games wrapped up as presents that they could open every hour. Pop tarts figured heavily in that, because they wouldn't eat airplane food.

We had great flights and no one was bothered by them. There was the odd soul who would come up and ask if we had extra pop tarts though...

Yes, but usually such snowfalls are a light dusting of snow overnight with accumulation less than an inch. It is not unusual for this to occur every day. Not that there aren't heavier loads, which get all the "snowmageddon!" press coverage from dimwits.

What folks from further south find difficult to cope with is that winter -- temperatures and precipitation, and in different manifestations -- runs from Halloween through Easter. Mosquitoes and biting flies are the summer months' plagues.
