I mean, yeah, It's July in Texas, and sometimes it's so hot and dry to we're one spark away from turning the whole state into one big grassfire.
Bu-u-u-ut, this year, we're having a nice "cool" Texas summer with lots o'rain,
so fireworks would be all copacetic.
But...nope.
Truly, if there's one thing that's gets the Karens all fired up to report you around here,
it's fireworks.

I have a Shield too. That price seems high though. Have you looked for used ones? I don't think I paid anywhere near 6 bills for it. Maybe demand has shot prices up.
My shield came with adjustable rear sites, front fixed. The rear sight had to be adjusted, just FYI. Was shooting way low and right.
Mine came with a safety as well. Some don't.

For CC, the shield and guns like Sigs Nitro are perfect. Single stack though. 7-8 rounds.
If it's a night stand or safe gun, better off with full size with 15 round or more.

The SW MP is well reviewed and liked in the shooting community. Can't go wrong with it.
If the price was the same or close though, Sig Saur would be my choice. As others mentioned, that P365 and the Nitron are both excellent.
Either one would be a great gun.

i think you will be ok. Always best to shoot the weapon and get good training. But I will let out a secret i mentioned before. I have pretty much never gotten rid of a mouse gun, J frame revolver ,or sub compact unless it sucked like the Beretta Nano.
Now this is just an opinion but it is also based on decades of actual experience. I have had to transition out more than a few weapons that were too big, too heavy or just hurt my back. Now full size handguns have there place for sure. But I could see the weapon you like working for home defense. Sure it would not be ideal, but really nothing is ideal unless you have several weapons. The old joke is everyone wants to carry large and shoot small. If you are talking HD and CCW, I could see that working. Not that that is the only choice, but we could be at this forever. i have slept with a smaller gun that that by my side.

I was showing off some fireworks to my 8 year old grandson last weekend (he was at my house, and won't be today) they were sparklers, little things, the one he liked most was "Naughty Dog!!!" it's a standup cardboard figure of a little dog, and you light the fuse on its ass and this LONG black worm/snake comes out of his butt, then it shoots sparks and goes BANG! Yeah, he loved that one more than any other. (those chinese think of everything)
but then I tried one that I thought looked harmless, "flower blossom" or something. I lit it, it spun around shooting sparks, then all of sudden it shot 50 feet straight up into the air and burst into flame, bouncing through the limbs of our Oak Tree and almost landing on the roof.
the 8 year old thought it was the coolest thing ever. The wife was not amused, and said I was as bad as him.

What was amazing about that speech was that it wasn't some guy running for office, some temporary placeholder, or someone 'reeling' from attacks giving that speech, it was the President of the United States. It felt like he had always been the President and would always be the President and this was simply and matter-of-factly the way that things were going to go down.

News from the Russian front really sounds good. All those "tsk" towns have fallen - Pinsk, Minsk, Polotsk, etc - and in the ten days since the drive started the Red troops are 1/4 of the way to Berlin.
Imagine every US artillery piece in theater all fired at once. That would have been a fireworks show for the ages!

I haven't shot a gun in years, and am thinking about one of the Ruger LCR revolvers, the .357 so I can also fire .38 Special rounds in it. There's at least one range in town that has rental guns.
Of course I have this great admiration for the Single Action Army .45 revolver; but it would hardly be a concealed carry weapon.

I think you are on the right track. You could to move to South Dakota and open carry. I have carried a Ruger Blackhawk in a shoulder holster during Winter. I don't feel under gunned because i love the weapon and if all else fails, it can act as a mace.

Thathalfrican, I don't qualify as a gun nut, but I will say that I like S&W and almost got one. I ended up with a Sig P365 because the grip fit my small hands better and gave me the tightest grouping.

But the Shield is the only striker fired sidearm in my CC collection. I like it and you wont go wrong.

Now on to the stuck open valve in the back of the house. When I dug it out I managed to cut through another repair where new control wires were put in near the surface of the ground instead of down at the level where the plumbing is run. that was bad advice and I recant it. But I have had a Single Action revolver for many decades. I think I can use it well if needed but even then, it is likely not a good idea. There are plenty of reasons not to carry a SAA revolver.

Open carry or not, I'd LOVE to move to SD. As for single action, well, I like the idea of the physical involvement of shooting the weapon; I will have to concentrate on shooting. The contraindication on that is, in a hot stitch of time in self-defense, a DA would be quicker.

I like it, although that's a shocking price, especially for something without night sights or fiber optics. It's almost double what my 9mm Shield cost. Honestly, except for the ported barrel and the additional $300 price tag, I'm not sure what else is different from a stock one.
I'm not familiar with the Performance Center model so it might be up there with the Hellcat and P365 at that price, but at that price you've got a LOT of other options, with 10+ capacity or larger capacities. As was probably said above, find a place that rents and shoot a few until you find the perfect one for you.
Ammo-wise, I like HST, but I recommend calling your local law enforcement agency to ask what ammo they use. That way if you ever have to defend yourself the prosecutor can't say "He was using super killing power death eagle brand bullets with the intention of murdering that man!!!"

I own the LCR in .38 - and I can't discourage you from this enough.
Its too snappy loaded with .38 due to the polyner frame. You will not like it in .357. And mine is hammerless. The trigger pull is not good. The grips are too small as well - as it is a pocket gun. I no longer carry it.
I do have a GP-100 in .357 that shoots like a dream. I carry is IWB - and anybody that sees it print and does not like it can kiss my ass.
The SP-101 in .357 would be a good compromise for you. Load it with .38. Make sure you get one with a hammer. Trust me.

Our grandfathers and great-grandfathers handled the Western frontier pretty well with revolvers like the SAA.
I need to fire a few rounds through one, and through something like the Ruger LCR. As I say, it's been a few years, and my shooting in the '70s and '80s was pretty much with .22LR and .22 Magnum.
I fired a friend's 7.65 Luger once at a range, and that was a perfect fit for my hand and wonderfully accurate. But I'm sure those are stratospherically priced now.

If I were buying in the $500 or so range I'd try very hard to find a P365 XL to test out. A bit larger than the little 365 and 16 total rounds in an easily concealable pistol is a winning combination.

I am with you on SD. And though I didn't want to give bad advice, i can see a scenario where someone could carry Single Action revolver. I know I would not be worried if that was what I were carrying, and i have done it more than a few times.
I carried a full size Blackhawk in .357. That is bigger than a Colt .45 or at least it is built even heavier. You could got with a Birdshead or some other smaller weapon is that is truly what you want to carry. At some point you have to make a decision and go with it. I carry a mouse that most would scoff at. The difference is I am never without it and it works.
in the end you have to got with what works for you. I know I changed weapons from big to small before i settled on what worked. I never got rid of a weapon that worked and was reliable because it was too small. I only tell you this to give real info. OThers would likelyd think I am off base.

A SAA clone like an Uberti Cattleman would be a hard thing for me to carry under a coat, true. Perhaps that would be better for home defense, and a DA like the Ruger SP-101 would make a better concealed gun? Both in .357, so I will only need one caliber?

Yup. That and the first DA pull is my safety. IMHO... fine motor skills go first in high stress situations.
All I have to do is pull trigger to go bang. No flipping safeties before you shoot.

interesting. I have a SW airweight. with an enclosed hammer. There are good reason for this. No SA so it is always DA. And the hammer can not get snagged in an altercation. Even if you had to fire from a jacket pocket, in theory, the hammer could get snagged.
But I can see why others would feel uncomfortable with the change. All these weapons are there and they all can work. the key is to go for what works for you and become comfortable with using it. And then, become comfortable with never having to use it. 'I have owned a gun since I was a little kid. i have had a ccw for decades. Never even came close to clearing leather and that was still while being focused on my surroundings and imminent threats.

A DA is more practical for sure. I only allowed the other option because sometimes a person is dead set on one thing. It is crazy to think one can't carry a SA if that is what they want. While not the best idea for most, it can be done with practice. I am not recommending it, but it would be bs to say it can't be done. Hell, like I said, I have done it.
If I could, I wold be in SD today and open carrying a SA revolver.

My Shield has the safety, and I wanted the safety, because I've got a special needs son that will f*ck with ANYTHING. He's done great and we keep the pistols in small safes around the house if they're not on our bodies, but still. That little extra step made me feel better.
And every time I put it in the holster the safety goes off and it's just like my Glocks.

there is a very good argument form striker fired or DAO auto loaders. And if you are going to worry about it, for sure eliminate the issue. And I pretty much do the same, my main CCW's are DA.
I do think people worry too much about working an SA revolver or even an SA auto if the time came. You can train and people have a pretty good way of figuring out what they need to do. But I can for sure see why many would choose to eliminate variables.

Yep, it's an all-out coordinated effort now. it is not what I normally have used but I know it works. My first ccw was a Beretta 84, the precursor to the Cheetah. It was DA/SA and a decent gun. The bad part was it was likely he heaviest .380 you could find lol. It was the king of carrying heavy and shooting small. But it was a nice weapon.
I went on to carry weapons that were not DA/SA. I know a significant percentage of those in the community love Sig's and others of that type. It is as legit a platform as any other, there is no doubt there.

My hood kids use a leaf blower to propel themselves on skateboards. It is annoying as fuck since they are loud. But man I cant help but smile watching them.

There is a tall plant at my office that Linda has been watering and making sure it has sunlight ever since March. Now me, I don;' know when a plant is alive or dead, and I prefer the low-maintenance type of plant (i.e., silk), so it's up to her. Plus, it's a good ride for the car. Lat-ah, all.

both July 4th and Thanksgiving, I had several people mention it to me
and say happy TG or happy 4th of July. The best was when I was at a
small local bar in Paris on July 4th one summer. The owner was an old
guy really nice and he Told me my beer was on the house. As much as the
stereotype of Euros hating Us is out there, they dont really. At least
not on a personal level and not that I ever experienced.

same. As much as I love the other countries. I have had more personal friendly experiences in France than in Spain, Italy and in ways, even the UK combined.
Even when that Brit gave me the free back of turkey and stuffing chips/crisps, it was a the exactly right time and he meant something by it.
But for sure I have had more times when someone actually tried to jump the cultural barrier in France than in any other country. i have also had some of the worst times to be fair. I need too get back over but i am worried none of those countries are like they used to be. Are we like we used to be?

I speak some French so I think that helps a lot in making myself welcomed in France. Here is the thing about France. It is a lot like here with cities vs towns. Paris and Lyons is like LA and NY. But drive 50 miles away you are in the afrench version of small town America. Night and day in people and attitudes towards everything.

Quebec is the same way, with the cities being Montreal and to a lesser extent Quebec City. Even in Montreal you can get into places where if you don't speak French you're in a bit of a problem.

I spent quite a bit of time there myself but maybe less than you. I think an American expects more from a Brit than they do a Frenchman or Spaniard.
The problem with someone who speaks your own language is you always know what they are saying. That can be a good thing or a bad thing really. I do agree with the other commenter that if you are in France, it helps to try a bit of French.

Yeah, everyone has taken it differently.
My parents live in another state, and being in their 80's, have been very cautious - and they got increasingly depressed, especially without church. I prodded them to get out of the house, even if it was just to drive around. Sunlight, fresh air, scenery, and small interactions getting gas or at a store make such a difference. We've consistently gotten out throughout -- haaaated feeling trapped at home. Many hours logged driving, and more recently out on trails (the state shutdown parks, the b@stards, but with the beaches and a private org. here that has many little patches of open space that are mostly open.

I have a special affinity for that area. and if you like craft beer, or wine, or cider, they have them all. I remember just a few years ago they had one brewpub open up in Woodstock. Now they have a bunch of them all over. They also have cidieries, wineries, distilleries,and even meaderies, though I am not sure they have a meadery in the shenandoah.
The Southern Inn in New Market is a must visit. The pies are world famous and every biker goes there.

Ever fill out one of those surveys, where they show you the ad, then ask how you feel about it?
They have questions like "I am more likely to buy this product after seeing this ad." And then you get a Likert scale (1 meaning not likely at all, 7 meaning certainly will buy).
They always have questions like "This product is in line with my values" or "the company cares about me and my family."
They really really think people buy stuff on that basis. I think there's a fundamental disconnect, but that's because I'm not a automaton.
Maybe people really are sitting there thinking "Moon pies are trying to take down the patriarchy" and then buy or don't, based on their own views of the patriarchy.

I was once in Paris at an ice cream store in the ile de cite. I was looking at the menu if you will and decided I would get a couple. I thought that meant two scoops on an ice cream cone.. Instead, it meant to ice cream cones. The jagoff guy could figure out I was alone and would look pretty damn stupid with two ice cream cones lol. Sometimes foriegn words will get ya. This country's Founding was a miracle, unlike any other in history. We've lost a lot of ground since then, but in another miracle, Trump was elected, and despite tremendous opposition, he keeps going (like Washington, in his speech yesterday).
One miracle to start this country, another at a crucial point about 240 years later ... it doesn't look like God is giving up on us just yet. So I'm going to keep trusting Trump because I trust God.
So I'm sure Trump is going to be re-elected, and his second term will be pivotal, significant -- and very surprising, as much so as Washington's victory at Trenton.

I had one and yes they were the best at the time. Way over engineered, but you could not break one if you tried.
The Colt 1860 clones out of Cimarron Arms are extremely well built. We used them for Civil War reenacting and never had an issue.

When i spent a good amount of time in London i found out that an unusual number of small hotel owners were from Cyprus. Not just Greece but Cyprus in particular. The economics of the world can be weird. From my travels, the most exploring group of Westerners that will work abroad are Aussies.

If you mean "us" as in the Elect in Christ, then may I remind you that the temporal realm is not our home, and that your focus is on the wrong thing.
If "us" means whoever is the residents of the former United States, then you are making an appeal to a massive Spiritual Revival since a Constitutional Republic is only suitable for a moral and religious people.
If "us" means the whole world, then what you mean is the last of Elect has not yet been redeemed, which by mere fact we are still here confirms that.
Of all of human history, it isn't like God's Will hasn't been furthered. I submit that the former United States existed because of the persecution of the Church by Rome.
Human Flourishing needs three things to thrive: The Printing Press, Firearms and Calvinism. This is quite evident when you look at global population up until the Reformation - it closely resembles the Global Warming Hockystick.
The presence of the former United States brought relative peace to a turbulent world that became increasingly demonic.
The differences were quite stark. In the last one hundred years, mankind went from Shaman level knowledge of medicine, primitive communication and technology, barely able to feed itself and required toil six days a week to survive all the way to man on the moon, huge increases in human lifespan, instant communications, and more leisure time and diversions than even the royalty of old could enjoy.
Also at the same time, you had the Left and all of their darkness slaughter off hundreds of millions of their own people in pursuit of their ideological wickedness in the form of famine, plague, neglect and violence.
The former United States was the bright beacon while the world was dark and evil.
The darkness never went away, it only was allowed to prosper in the former United States. And here we are.
Its an insult and mockery to those who separated from Continental Europe and risked their lives, fortunes and honor to colonize, liberate and build a new land. There was great bloodshed, toil and grief to get here.
To then say - "oh God will keep Trump around for another four years" and you can sit back and watch what happens because of some imaginary unilateral covenant between God and "us" where God is obligated to keep us soft, comfortable and inconvenienced is folly at best and a "Get Thee Behind Me Satan" sort of statement.
Again, what do you mean by "us" ?

I need to fire a few rounds through one, and through something like the Ruger LCR. As I say, it's been a few years, and my shooting in the '70s and '80s was pretty much with .22LR and .22 Magnum.
I fired a friend's 7.65 Luger once at a range, and that was a perfect fit for my hand and wonderfully accurate. But I'm sure those are stratospherically priced now.
