26 I grew up in a state where we could buy firecrackers, bottle rockets, and other fun things that could cause injury when shot / thrown at other kids, as we so often did. Now, I live in a lame state where you can buy smoke bombs and fountains, but that's about it.

If you haven't already seen the brilliant fireworks display by Antifa, check out Andy Ngo's Twitter feed. There's a great clip of a guy being a little too close when there's an "Earth-shattering kaboom!"

Depends on your elevation, as things don't start to crisp up until water has boiled off to a certain degree. Perhaps your oven temp is inaccurate. For me, 20 minutes for thick, and 15-17 for thin at 400F is the typical recipe.

132 One of our 2 closest towns is among the few still having a fireworks show this year. Pretty much no stores with customer mask requirements either so I do have that going for me. Been hearing either fireworks or lighting every night this week.

Our square mile subdivision is having "an old fashioned neighborhood parade" organized by some moms whose kids were bummed about all the parade cancelations. Dad is going to zip tie a couple of american flags to the tractor and participate and I've seen a couple of teams driving around so it should be fun.

All my riding buddies are camping out at various trailheads but I thought I might travel next weekend (event canceled now) so I swapped to be 'on call' for work this weekend. Plus today we picked up hay from dad's old hunting buddy friend that puts up some hay for property tax relief. Its great hay for our minis as it is not very high calorie hay. I'm trying not to feel whiney about missing out on the camping plus riding fun. I did spend a couple of weekends riding and camping mid June so I'm hardly completely deprived.

It can help if your oven has un-even heat. I have to move strips from the ends of the pan to the middle and the middle pieces to the ends to get an even crisp.

Also, if they're burning without rendering the fat, it's because 400 is too high for the cut. Lower and longer will be a more even cook... usually.

Never needed to except really thick pieces. I dump the entire contents, including all the added water, of the package onto the pan, because it contains any excess salt and sugar. If you are not, I would expect less time to cook. If you are flipping, I would expect more time, because you have cooled it down mid-cook.

I think that is the basic difference between a progressive and a conservative. It seems that progressives always look for the worst case scenario and the most malign motives in people. No matter how positive things seem to be going, they can alwasy find the dark side. There is never any good news.
Conservatives, on the other hand, look for the best in people and try and find the way to make things better. Cheer positive outcomes and have hope that tomorrow will be better. Rare it is now that I enjoy a modern movie. The last flick I remember really liking in a theatre was the first Jurassic World with Chris Pratt ("Who's the alpha [raptor]?" "You're lookin' at him, kid") and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Before that it was the remake of Cactus Flower, Just Go With It. Of course almost any movie with Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Aniston competing in a hula contest would be worth seeing once.

So many flicks today seem to have forgotten color. Everything is grayish, "grimy," as Ace put it, and dimly lit.

It was part of a series. There's another of Washington at the Battle of Monmouth, and also a really beautiful one that doesn't seem to get much showing of Braddock's Defeat on the Monongahela in the French and Indian War. (Washington was his Aid-de-Camp.)

The thing I am really hating now about modern movies is they (in general) they don't show off beauty anymore. Especially female beauty. I mean even if a movie sucked they used to at least give you something to appreciate. Not anymore.

Far from being glamorized, the women now seem to all be uglied up on purpose. Girl power? For all anyone wants to say about Tarantino, he knows how to shoot a lady. It's all a bit much with the armpit hair and the feet of course but see his treatment of hippie Margaret Qualley in OUATIH. The rear shot of her leaning in to Brad Pitt's automobile is pure cinematic feminine unafraid *chef kiss*.

It's amazing how, after sleazing in our face for years, the creepy commies suddenly want to get all prudish and unisex.

there is a video on Youtube (it hasn't been suppressed yet) called "The American System of Government." It contrasts the differences between demoracy, a republic, anarchy, monarchy and oligarchy. It is very well done.
I made my young son watch it to remind him that we don't live in a democracy.

300 A friend of the family died. Mrs Howell was born in Pusan during Japanese occupancy and was always offended that she had to take a Japanese name in school. She said her family had money so they got her a "good" Japanese name for her.
She worked for the US Army in a mess hall staff during the Korean war and got her green card and immigration status that way.
She and her family lost everything a number of times, and she never lacked in energy or bustle to get things done. She had a quiet voice, and a calm demeanor, but never was not doing something. Her house and yards were always beautiful. Pictures of her as a young woman have her as an elegant, and lovely woman.

She raised three kids, who are successful, has grandkids, went to church regularly at the Korean church, and her daughter moved down to live with her after her husband died a couple of years ago.

She passed in her sleep today.

Day-before-month is how they designate dates in Europe. We broke away from their traditions on so many other things (for example, we drink coffee because the British drink tea); why do we let them dictate what we call such an important day? And it's the only day of the year we use the European model for. We don't refer to Pearl Harbor Day as The Seventh of December, for example.

July 4th is Independence Day.

Anthony Johnson (no relation to Sammy) came to Virginia as an indentured servant from Africa, earned his freedom, and then got an indentured servant of his own (John Casor, another African). Johnson later sued for the "right" to keep Casor as a permanent slave, making the multicultural argument that that's how they do things in Africa, and we just needed to respect his people's traditions.

The British Crown Court ruled in Johnson's favor, and John Casor became the first true slave in the American Colonies in the year 1654.

If not for that lawsuit, indentured servitude would've remained the norm.
