>>> 217 The Karens are coming for your children.

The CDC guidelines for schools reopening are nightmarish and cruel. As a parent I'm worried. The only that keeps me hopeful is that the rules are largely unworkable. I dread sending my kids to school with a mask. I don't think a parent would subject their child to such a sickening distopian senerio.
Posted by: Max Power at May 25, 2020 12:45 PM

The teachers, educators I've talked with agree that the idiotic guidelines mean no private school will ever be able to open again if they are followed. They would all be shut down. And public schools will need billions upon billions of dollars funneled into them and then lit on fire. Private schools have already started shuttering because of this.

It really is amazing how every single consequence of this very very very (what? are you a science hater?) very serious cold season seems to align perfectly with how leftists would like to reorder society. Like some kind of magic.

31 NY Times is like that guy you knew in school, who would make some outlandish claim, like your math teacher was once a secret agent who has 49 kills to his name.

Turns out your math teacher went to the local tech college, got a draft deferment, and has been teaching math pretty much since he got out of school.

But your "friend" keeps insisting, and keeps coming up with more and more insane theories as to how and why the facts aren't true.

Nobody pays attention to him... except he's the editor of the school newspaper. And he writes nice things about the drama club. And the teachers seem to like him for some damn reason you can't understand.

So yeah, it's not that NOBODY listens to him. Just nobody who's normal.

54 I remember seeing an animated video where a group of SJWs brought forward some WWII vets via a time machine to "fight fascism".

The vets were of course alarmed that there was fascism in the future, but as the SJWs start telling them what this "fascism" entails the vets start getting more and more angry and finally tell the SJWs that they've seen actual NAZIs and they look just like the SJWs.

I can't seem to find the video anymore, but it was very well done, and very on point.

If you brought Patton and the 3rd Army to 2020 the first thing he would do, likely, is invade New York to get rid of the fascists there....

We need to wipe out every sign of supporting the traitors of the civil war.
That includes the political vehicle for their loathsome views.
We must outlaw the Democrat party, remove all of the currently serving members and loudly denigrate their views in our public discourse and media.

On then can the racist specter of our pre-civil war past be laid to rest.

This.

In my 20 years the only racism I found were from those who brought it in with them. Usually one good field exercise (or firefight) got rid of it.
Interesting how a very few kids (of every color) would adjust well, go home on leave, and come back with an attitude.
It got adjusted quickly.

Posted by: Diogenes at May 25, 2020 01:13 PM (axyOa)

80 What's really funny about this is, anybody who's ever served in the military knows there are racial divides, as there naturally are, for all human interactions, people tend to gravitate to their own kind.

However...

Everybody had friends across racial divides. Everybody. Except those shitty racists, of whom there were a few in all racial groups. They would scowl at everyone else, for daring to mix it up.

These were the guys you'd probably frag the first chance you got, if things got hot.

There's no room for racism in the military. There is, of course, guys who take a piss at each other, all the time. For everything.

Or maybe denying that there are any aliens at all. Or that there are aliens and it's Trump's fault. Anything to keep us arguing.

85 An epidemic is weeping the nation.

And name of the disease is "problematization."

Problematization is a made-up term concocted by communist academics as a way to "formalize" the criticism and rejection of every single aspect of capitalism and western civilization.

100% of all classes in the liberal arts in colleges now are based on "problematization." Basically it just means that one must point out what is "problematic about every single thing you se, hear about or read about in the past, present and future.

And while it started in academia and has since completely consumed it, the concept of "problematicizing" everything has spread to the mainstream left and is now taking over all newsrooms.

The left is on a rampage of pointing out everything they see and saying "That's a problem, and that;s a problem, and that's a problem," etc.

Of course, you and I could do the same thing to them -- because every single aspect of leftism is "problematic" to us.

But that's where the issue of "narrative control" comes in.

Whoever controls the media and the national zeitgeist has the ability to prioritize their version of problematization.

So when the left complains about something, IT'S A NATIONAL EMERGENCY.

But when the right complains about something, the complaints are either utterly ignored, or if they are noticed, dismissed and laughable conspiracy theories.

Needless to say, our complaints and our problematization are valid, while theirs and just an exercise in assholism.

And thus the struggle for cultural power continues unabated, in a furious nonstop Stalingrad-level barrage of attempted mutual annihilation, 24 hours a day, every day.

And they support modern progressive fascism now.

Yes. Because they're inserting it in schools.

Of course it has no historical validity. It's a perversion of some basic truths, leaps of logic, and centuries old settling of scores that nobody needed settling.

Here's the simplest way to summarize the argument: Slavery is our SINGLE most important founding principle. And the suppression of black people has ALWAYS been part of the national DNA.

In which case, why are we even talking about this? Let's all just separate or start killing each other. If you believe it's who we are, then why are we still pretending this is fixable?

Par for the course for commies, so it's hard for me to get TOO wrapped around the axle.

Remember, Charlie Rangel used to introduce a bill in every session that would bring back the draft, whether the military wanted it or not. Every. Session. He was quite specific and loudly public about his motivations. He didn't give a shit about the military, or their manpower numbers. He wanted a draft because it would piss off young people and make them hate the military. Then they would be much more willing to take to the streets in "peace" rallies.

Commies and Donks (but I repeat myself) are no different. They fucking HATE the military. But they want to control it, so they can turn it against domestic enemies, meaning us. They can't use it to shoot conservative Kulak wreckers if it's too well equipped, too well loved by the people, and deployed overseas.

128 Only part of this dreck I'm aware of is the bit about names of certain military bases (well, Army bases, pretty much).

Same complete cultural collapse as seen with Confederate statues (in almost all specific cases).

A direct result of the dumbing down of society, and its infusion with all kinds of racist nonsense (sorry, race-baiting and actually anything do with "race", in our system and under our philosophy, is just another kind of racism).

The ignorant, racist, dumbed down people dominating the institutions and the public square are pristinely un-American, specifically just like the rest of the world, where civil wars were generally wars of extermination and pure hatred and pure will to power.

No White Guard monuments in Moscow. As long and troubled as the post-war period was here, the reconciliation involved is as rare a thing in history as representative government or individual liberty as a central value of a society.

This kind of stuff is what keeps them in business. Literally. Stop thinking of them as a newspaper. They don't report the news, the print red meat that their last remaining readers and subscribers want to see. If they stopped, they'd lose those readers. Its a business plan.

This is a conscious decision by organizations like MSNBC, NYT, Washington Post, etc. Its only outrageous if you think of them as a news organization with reporters. They aren't. They aren't even propaganda. They are simply spoon feeding their readers what those people want to see.

I long, long ago realized that science, for most people, was little more than a substitute religion with oracles and sacred texts that could not be understood by the common man.

With that sort of relationship developing, it became obvious that the power wasn't in the science, the texts, but in the scientists, the oracles. They had all the power, and, being human, they were as subject to flaws as anyone else.

Nailed it.

And as for the cause, the notion that soldiers on the field were "fighting for slavery" is ridiculous, as ridiculous as saying the average Russian soldier in WWII was fighting for Stalinism.

I'm not laying out the old "slavery-wasn't-the-cause" line. Slavery WAS the essential cause of secession and secession was the cause of the war. I'm just saying that the mentalities of politicians and combatants are distinct and do not necessarily overlap.

Take the average Yankee soldier. The overwhelming majority were not "fighting to free the slaves." They didn't call the enemy "Johnny Slaver;" they called him rebel or "secesh."

Ah, well.

If there is no length of time, no number of generations brought up in America as citizens with all rights that will make them feel American, then shouldn't they leave and go somewhere they will be able to feel more connected?

(I realize tone doesn't come across online - I'm not asking this nastily but very seriously. If I felt that way about a country, I'd leave.)

Especially 3rd Worlders that use in Vitro studies to choose their drug to be tested, and then perform a reasonable test of the treatment using a large test population?

Beside Ivermectin is out of patent also.

From Wiki:

Ivermectin inhibits replication of SARS-CoV-2 in monkey kidney cell culture with an IC50 of 2.2 - 2.8 µM, making it a possible candidate for COVID-19 drug repurposing research.[81][82] The doses used in cell culture would require 10E4 larger doses in humans based on this [sic] data, which does not look promising as an effective treatment for COVID-19.

Basically, moderate settings shut off everything I used to be able to see, including pictures! They want you to go in and turn everything on full permissions is my guess.

BTW, Mozilla has also deemed Archive.is a "bad" site and won't give me permission to go there even if I say proceed. That's because it's a way around paywalls for any article you want to read. And, it's not based in the US or part and parcel of the media like archive.org now is.

The CDC guidelines for schools reopening are nightmarish and cruel.
---

The CDC needs to be disbanded and executed.

Posted by: Methos at May 25, 2020 12:58 PM

The same CDC that stated in February, when they were predicting 2%-4% fatality rate for COVID-19:

In fact the U.S. surgeon general recently urged the public to "STOP BUYING MASKS!" "They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can't get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!," wrote Surgeon General Jerome Adams on Twitter.

The CDC said last month it doesn't recommend people use face masks, making the announcement on the same day that first case of person-to-person transmission of coronavirus was reported in the U.S.
The CDC recommendation on masks stands, a spokesman told MarketWatch Wednesday, even with the first reported case of a COVID-19 infection in an individual in California who had not been to China or been exposed to a person diagnosed with the virus.

"The virus is not spreading in the general community," Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the Center for the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said in a Jan. 30 briefing. "We don't routinely recommend the use of face masks by the public to prevent respiratory illness. And we certainly are not recommending that at this time for this new virus."

HHS Secretary Alex Azar said Tuesday, "Our advice remains as it has been that the average American does not need a N95 mask. These are really more for health care providers."

https://on.mktw.net/2XtsyWn

But now that the CDC is predicting 0.26% fatality rate, now it's "ZOMG, we need masks! Can't open schools without masks! Have to mask the demographic which is the LEAST at risk!"

We live in stupid times...

Posted by: tubal at May 25, 2020 01:11 PM (bCLt0)

Posted by: BurtTC

Want to know the REAL subtext behind the 1619 Project?

It's an attempt to stop the re-ordering of the Racial Grievance Priority Stack, and re-asset black people as the sole significant minority.

You see, the Left spent decades constructing this 2-race dichotomy where everything was structured as a "black vs. white" issue. Immense amounts of energy went into building and this propping up[ this clearcut dichotomy. They wanted everyone the think of America as having just two races, white and black, that were essentially opposed to each other. Good people (of all skin colors) were on the black side, according to the Left's dichotomy, while bad people were on the white side.

AND THEN reality intervenes and history kept happening.

And what happened is that Hispanics passed black people in sheer population numbers, as well as in economic strength, and then started coming close in cultural significance.

And suddenly it was a three-way racial conflict. Oops.

But things didn't stop there.

Asian numbers in the US started expanding hugely, and their economic impact grew even more, and their cultural significance also started growing -- and now there were FOUR "races" battling it out.

And then -- Muslims starting making noise, and they though they're not a race, they got added into the mix.

And then other non-racial minority groups started taking the lead is grievance-mongering (gays, transsexuals, etc. etc.), and suddenly when you stepped back and looked at the Battle Royale that was American society, you realize that blacks were becoming more and more irrelevant, just one amongst a vast array of minority grievance constituencies.

And now only was it not a two-way dichotomy of black-vs-white anymore, black weren't even in second place anymore -- maybe ion fifth or sixth place in the Grievance Sweepstakes.

The 1619 Project is an attempt to re-set the cultural landscape and declare the supremacy of Black grievance over all other grievances, and the re-affirm that American is a black-vs-white struggle and that black is good and white is bad.

In other words, the 1619 Project is not about establishing the moral superiority of blacks over whites (a "fact" which is already confirmed), but instead it's about jostling for position among all the different minority groups. A multi-party struggle is way too confusing and morally muddled; the left wants clear messaging, and the only to do that is to get back to a two-horse race once again.

If a black person feels alienated from America and feels that nothing can ever wipe out the fact that their ancestors were brought here as slaves, I'm not going to tell them they have to stop feeling that way, but I am going to ask...then why stay here? If there is no length of time, no number of generations brought up in America as citizens with all rights that will make them feel American, then shouldn't they leave and go somewhere they will be able to feel more connected?

(I realize tone doesn't come across online - I'm not asking this nastily but very seriously. If I felt that way about a country, I'd leave.)

It is to claim that the only reason slavery is wrong is due to a moral dislike to it, however it is incredibly valuable method of marshaling labor, so if we could figure some way to remove the stigmata, say through a government bureau overseeing the treatment of slaves, we could be as powerful as China or the North African states that still practice slavery, but they they do it poorly and don't do it in a moral and effective manner like we are planning.

That's an easy one if I'm understanding this.

Either your AC adapter is crapping out (my guess) or possibly the removable cable from the box to the outlet is bad. This would cause it to work for a while, then stop. Nothing to do with laptop.

If you can find another cable (they're usually a standard 3 prong adapter) try that first. If not, even if it's the cable from box to laptop (usually not removable) you need to replace it. DO NOT buy the OEM if possible, usually there's loads of 3rd party just as good for a fraction of the cost.

I got there really early and decided to sit beside a gentleman who was there by himself. He was a WWII vet from Rhode Island. I struck up a conversation with him. The time came when the ushers started moving people out of that seating area, and I discovered I had seated myself in the VIP section meant for veterans and their families. The ushers likely thought I was a niece or granddaughter so they didn't pay us any mind as they were shooing other people out of that section.

To this day I regret not getting his contact information and keeping in touch with him.

Posted by: clutch cargo

The Left is not monolithic, and the campaigns and strategies very frequently clash and undermine each other.

So yes, part of the Left's strategy is to maximize the number of Hispanics in America, to amp up the Democratic voting bloc numbers.

But that then creates a new cultural group to rival and ultimately surpass blacks as the nation;s most significant minority. Ooops.

All sorts of other similar conflicts happen with the Left. For decades -- a century, even -- unions and "labor" were the core of the Democratic voting base -- but the environmental movement came along, grabbed huge influence over the party -- and it's main goal is to suppress economic activity, which inevitably leads to massive job losses. Oops - exactly the opposite of what unions and "labor: activists would want.

The Left wants libertinism and promiscuity to be normalized so as the destroy the nuclear family -- but at the same time they import and elevate the power of millions of Muslims into the US, who are even more repressive and prudish that the most extreme Christian sect. Ooops.

And on and on it goes. Half of what the Left is continuously undermining what the other half does. It never ends.

Stops charging? I have that problem with my iPad.

The charging current is momentarily interrupted, the computer stops charging. For me, that means the Apple Lightning charging cord is going bad, and needs replacement. In the interim, it means regularly unplugging the cord and plugging it back in.

Yeah, I wish it were the cable. Apple has designed the new lightning port devices to start to crap out after a couple of years. Yes, some cables work a bit better than others, depending on tolerances. I had to trade my last one in only because the port had gone bad and I couldn't charge the phone. I thought it was the cable of course, and tried some 3rd party ones that worked a bit better, but ultimately, nothing worked unless you could get it "just so". Junk.

297 > For me, that means the Apple Lightning charging cord is going bad

With Apple stuff specifically, the cable connectors are intentionally made from a much softer alloy than the internal connector, so the cable wears out a lot faster.

Now, this gives them revenue from selling new cables, there's no denying it, but it also means the problem can be fixed with a $20 cable rather than a multi-hundred-dollar internal repair.

Thing is, that crappy alloy is used in the port itself. I had this confirmed at the "genius bar". Guy said it was common, tried charging it there. No go. And, the phone was barely 2 years old. Know somebody else with same problem. My old iPad, first with that design is still going strong, and has been charged waaay more than my iPhone ever was. I've even considered getting one of the little adapters, so it's always plugged into the phone saving on the wear and tear.

Pfft. Gilead has the US patent (US 9,724,360) and corresponding foreign patents on remdesivir as a composition of matter. That means no one in any country in which Gilead has a corresponding patent can make, use, or sell remdesivir for any purpose whatsoever during the life of the patent. Treating disease, making grass grow, helping engines to run smoothly, growing hair, whatever.

The Chinese may have filed for a particular USE of remdesivir, but if so that would be a selection patent, and could not be practiced in any country in which Gilead has a patent corresponding to US 9,724,360 without a license to that patent.

Conversely, if the Chinese were to successfully patent this particular USE of remdesivir, Gilead could not sell remdesivir as a method of treating Covid-19.

It would be a classic cross-licensing situation then.

Ding ding ding -- the fact that it happened with both laptops is a big clue that the problem is probably with the power cord itself, not with the computers.

The wire inside the cords very frequently get kinked and then weaken due to metal exhaustion, and the electrical connection thereby become dodgy and intermittently. This has happened to me multiple times. Tiny little adjustments in the way the cord is laying will unintentionally cause it to connect or disconnect.

Posted by: zombie at May 25, 2020 02:08 PM (N9G0H)

315 Sometimes I think we should just do like Mexico - their attitude towards college sports is "Whatever! Who cares?" so of course they have no NCAA. Colleges play pro and semi-pro soccer teams all the time. I was lucky enough to stay in Guadalajara for a couple weeks some years ago, I was with friends who took me to a game between one of the pro teams and the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalara, one of the largest and wealthiest private universities in Mexico. (best private medical school in the country, too)

And it was actually a very good game, well as good as soccer can be. I recall that the School team won; of course that was because the son of the University President was on the team, so his dad when out and hired the 5 biggest professional soccer stars in Mexico that year to play for the school team that year.

well, that's just how they do things their. Come to think of it, what I remember best is the very scantily clad Sol Beer girls who did dance routines in front of the stands for most of the game. Can't say they don't know how to make a crowd happy.

What I said earlier. Cables go bad all the time. Even ones that don't get plugged, unplugged constantly - like your monitor cable. At my company we had a box full of cables, and that was the problem 95% of the time. I even have a box of spares. I'd say I have one type of cable or the other crap out after a year. Remember, they're made in China, as cheaply as possible folks. We all assume that the drawn copper is 100% flaw free. It's not. And, the connectors themselves have to be done perfectly. They never are. Toss 'em, they're cheap. Buy a bunch of 3rd party ones from a good mfgr like Belkin or Anker.
