Virginia City That Voted For Obama Twice, and McAuliffe, and Governor Mammy Blackface, Ejects All Democrats from City Council and Installs All-Republican Council In Its Place

And Democrats came out in greater numbers to vote than they did four years ago.

But Republicans came out greaterer.

Three Democratic members of the Staunton, Virginia, city council were ousted by Republicans on Tuesday despite receiving more votes than they did four years ago.

...

Local outlet Augusta Free Press reporter Chris Graham called the results "stunning almost beyond words."

"Democrats got their voters out better than they have in a May cycle in years," Graham wrote. "Republicans got turnout more akin to, not quite a presidential year, but approaching gubernatorial."

Graham cited gun control legislation in the state as well as COVID-19 lockdowns as key turnout drivers for Republicans in the city.

...

Nearby Wayesboro also put two conservatives, Lana Williams and Bruce Allen, on their city council to "give conservatives a working majority," Graham reported.

21 I think we were primed for an election that would give Republicans control of the House again, slight expansion of the Senate, and maintaining control of the White House before the virus.

Democrats fucked up their limited power badly.

And it looks like it could be that the virus and governments' overreactions to it could just make the situation worse for Democrats.

Most States have laws that say, OK, Governor can declare an emergency and has broad powers,

BUT, they only last 30 days unless he gets backing from the legislature to continue the emergency.

First, he offloads responsibility for the lockdowns onto the governors by maneuvering them into insisting that they, not Trump, had the authority to order lockdowns.

Then, once people start getting really annoyed with the lockdowns, Trump steps up to start rescinding them. Now governors either have to a) fight to maintain the unpopular lockdowns, or b) look like they're caving to Trump. They're in a no-win position.

I say again: the man is a political genius.

101 What I don't understand is how Judges are not bothering to follow the law.

Most States have laws that say, OK, Governor can declare an emergency and has broad powers,

BUT, they only last 30 days unless he gets backing from the legislature to continue the emergency.

There's been a couple of court cases now where the Legislature says, wait a sec, we didn't vote,

Yet Judges are ruling in favor of the Govs power grab.

My parish (an FSSP apostolate) has added two extra Masses on Sunday, requires registration for a Mass time, limited the attendance at any one Mass, has the KC and Altar Guild clean surfaces between Masses, has discouraged anyone who is ill from attending and blocked off every other pew. Still, we have Communion on the tongue (the pastor won't have it any other way) and Confession.

We could have done this right from the beginning. My parish has to follow the instructions from the Archbishop and His Eminence stopped public Masses in March instead of telling Gauleiter Hidalgo to pound sand.

In this case, since it's possible to wear masks, wash your hands, and sit 6 feet apart at church, the govt would lose these cases in court.

Some Govs overstepped. Others are within their laws. Which maybe people will now realize need changing.

And then too the state courts are inclined to agree with the Govs while when it gets to the SCOTUS you'll see the Constitution Trump all those State Laws and they'll be told their laws are unconstitutional and null and void.

155 Trump is a political genius.

I say again: the man is a political genius.

facilitate these lockdowns with his WH experts leading the charge and

Posted by: ... at May 22, 2020 02:31 PM (t+mAj)

186 Trump is a political genius.

206 Communion will be easy. They've already in many church taken care of that for a long time now. (not all churches tho)

All they have to do is stretch the line a bit.

It's not required (mostly) that the priest deliver the wafer direct to your tongue. I'm sure Jesus will let it slide.

I went to a church when younger that passed out the wafers first and then we all took them at the same time.

Same for the grape juice. (forgive me)

It is only transubstantiated upon ingestion. And the wafer and juice are standins.

Posted by: ShainS at May 22, 2020 02:35 PM (F26rd)

219 Is that how they do it? There are videos of Dem women poll workers dumping 100s of ballots in the boxes .

I think the more common case in Dem stronghold is

1) Get a bunch of ballots, and vote for the candidate you want.

2) Set aside some percentage of the real ballots cast.

3) Put the false ballot in with the rest and count them.

4) If that still isn't enough to win now go back and produce the real ballots you put aside - since it is a Dem stronghold it is still going to be 90-10 Dem or something like that.

And this explains

1) Democrat stronghold regularly produce more votes then they should based on number of registered voters.

2) Ballots are regularly found after they know how many votes they need, but those ballots usually seem legit and slightly more R then the ballots counted before (because of the fake ballots inserted earlier).

I'd love to be proven wrong in our favor, but I don't think either side can achieve landslide electoral returns anymore.

Both bases are so hardened in their hatred of each other (for good reason), that they'll never see eye to eye on a candidate.

The ones in the mushy middle, are by definition, mushy. If they have a nominal preference in party, and the candidate isn't to their liking, then they'll just stay home, not cross over.

This is likely to be true of both sides in this demo in 2020, but Trump has more of a galvanizing influence than the old wreck Biden.

So, I can't see any blowout elections in the near future. But thus far, I'm still optimistic about Trump's chances.

263 Also I think it was a fumble by Trump to facilitate these lockdowns with his WH experts leading the charge and his tacit approval. We've added over 4 trillion to the debt and destroyed the economy but yeah he pulled the old switcharoo on the Dem governors.

Posted by: Kilroy wasn't here at May 22, 2020 02:28 PM (AC18V)

You may be right. I'd say he did the politic thing: in an unknown, ambiguous, potentially catastrophic situation, follow the WH experts' advice. (And even then, the Reds were taxing him with "not listening to the scientists" crap.)

Consider the counterfactual case: suppose he'd ignored the WH experts' advice, and bodies were piling up all over the country now. He'd be toast. By following their advice he'd insulated himself from that scenario.

Adding to the debt is bad, no question, but in view of the lockdown, was probably also a politically astute move.

At every turn, Trump positions himself as being on the side of ordinary Americans. That's what he's doing vis-a-vis churches. He's implicitly casting the governors as the bad guys, and himself as the good guy stepping up to help ordinary Americans against overweening politicians.

I have put down my marker that we will not have an excess of deaths from all causes for this year vs last year. Some of the dead are being miscoded. Some of the people who have died with the New York Flu would have died anyway, probably from influenza. And I think the standard precautions that near everyone is taking, washing hands and coughing into kerchiefs and elbows, will lower most other infection rates.

Yes, standard caveat that numbers might be intermingled with other causes of death and some of the fatalities would have happened anyway. But still, they won't be able to push an apocalypse narrative. Two to three times as many deaths as seasonal flu simply isn't going to move the needle. They were comparing this to the Spanish Flu early on, ffs. "Life will never be the same." No, it will - but the elites *almost* got their Chinese-style "democracy" into the US through the COVID trojan horse. And they won't stop trying.

It doesn't actually matter whether he does or not. He is positioning himself as the champion of the little guy. Whether he can deliver on this or not is beside the point.

In fact, in some respects, it's better for him if he CAN'T deliver because of some legal ruling. Then he's got an issue on which to campaign.

It's much like the way the Reds choose their martyrs, such as Wesley Cook (aka Mumia al-Jabbar, or something). The a-hole is guilty as sin (stood over a fallen cop and shot him in the head), but he makes a useful symbol for agitprop.

Add CO. Everyone forgets us. But while our statewide vote isn't as blue as CA or OR, the (D) lead in the front range is insurmountable, and the Dems they elect are like CA Dems, but with rabies. For all intents and purposes, you can move CO from the "Blue" column to the "Dark Cobalt Blue, Damn Near to Black" column.

I imagine that Trump will do a rally in the Springs, maybe in Denver. I suppose he could do something in northern CO just to run up the totals, but I hope his campaign isn't foolish enough to spend heavily here in hopes of a statewide win.

It was heartbreaking last night on Tucker. Janice Dean, the weather lady was on.

She explained how BOTH of her husband's parents just died in NY nursing homes. He had only put them in there 6-8 months ago or something like that and struggled with the decision to do so.

They both died from wuhan virus. They couldn't have a normal funeral. AND she said they did not code them as COVID deaths in NY nursing home because they were rushed to emergency and died in the hospital.

NY changed the rules to hide the numbers, as we all know.

But it was heart breaking to hear from someone who just experienced it.

A Republican House majority ends impeachment as a threat and makes actual legislation possible.

369 That's s bit of good news!

As far as church reopenings my local online paper told me how many people had COVID and infected other people at church. So, Murphy will have bigger gatherings -just not church- even if your church is small. And the Bishops blather about keeping people safe-which I'm sure is true (We get reports about some people who have died from COVID including the wife of our former Bishop) but it's more about fearing lawsuits.

And the reaction from the non religious left-they celebrate the burning of the church In MS saying they deserved it or say "How come religious people don't care about people dying?" or like Seattle Slough-You can worship your God at home," entirely missing the point of communal gatherings.

I've just stopped replying to some leftists who are angry as hell at religious folks and even when they're not mentioning religion they barf forth stupidities like "All Trump voters hate people of color and gays and immigrants." (I didn't know the guy who wrote that, so how he did he know I'm not gay or a person of color or both). I guess he's another bigot like Joe Biden who thinks all blacks or gays or immigrants must vote for D's) I will say though, that even in NJ, the comments on the online paper are strongly against the lockdowns.

In cali people are p.i.s.s.e.d ....trump may not win the state but there will be a lot of dems thrown out.
Posted by: Pliney at May 22, 2020 02:57 PM (nzKWW)

------

This assumes people there will assign culpability to local Dems, or Trump.

I'll bet they assign it to Trump.

I don't think too many CA Dems are able to see this outside of the Orangemanbad context, or to figure out that Mr. Newsom had any role in their current travails.

389 I could see McSally winning but Gardener losing.

AZ really doesn't like McSally, I'm not sure why, but Trump will win the state by 5+ and incumbents Senators tend to win.

Posted by: Blago at May 22, 2020 03:04 PM (Ihsvk)

390 Correct with the Senate being more important.

I don't see 55 seats happening. We'll be lucky to hold 53.

Gardner and Mcsally are in real trouble.

392 >>> Trump has a 50-50 shot right now.

A less than 10% chance he flips the house and keeps the senate.

Well, if even true, then he is in a better position than 2016.

393 There are things Trump can do to state governments that will help them make the right decision. The President is not helpless in these matters.

394 And I presume someone is having *the* talk with Tillis now right? He's a real risk if he is the R candidate....

Great moment of my life was me watching some guy not consume (since I always watch having been an extraordinary minister). Made eye contact with priest, who also noticed, and priest said, "get 'em."

I rounded the pew so fast I banged my hip, took off after the guy. Stopped him, Asked him why he didn't consume, he said, "I'm not catholic" I reached down, opened his fingers, and retrieved the Eucharist.
Told thg he guy, "don't ever do that again."

Was a bit disappointed I didn't get to tackle him outside, but alas it was all very uneventful except for the bruise I sported for a month.

396 Based on polling?

I don't believe it, which doesn't mean that I think they're shoeins for victory or anything.

The more special elections that come in with Republicans overperforming, the less likely I am to believe any polling.

To a degree.

CO also has a strong Dem tilt with voter registration and statewide elected officials. It's more blue than purple.

Trump officials were sounding the alarm over Mcsally the other day.

Her opponent has almost twice as much cash and strong name recognition.

Plus Mcsally is very weak.

397 Me thinks it would be wise for the left to quit arousing the ire of the 2nd Amendment Crowd. It's about as effective as giving your own fireing squad the finger.

so be careful

I also saw a lot of polls with Hillary winning AZ

McSally lost by the margin of fraud during a blue wave in 2018 against a better opponent that was a known Congresswoman.

I think she takes it, but it will be hard fought

401 I live in the lovely, liberal hamlet of Staunton. The libtards have had a lock on City and School Councils for a very long time. Dumbasses tried to furlough some firefighters during this pandemic. Didn't work out so well, now did it? Lib heads exploding all over town. So sad, too bad.

403 I live closer to Lexington, just down the road from Staunton. Also a liberal enclave - if not more so. Staunton is a really nice town. The majority of folks in the surrounding areas support Trump. All these lockdowns pushed by the Dems are going to backfire big time.

Oh, hey! Lived in Waynesboro and went to church in Staunton. Both are in the Shenandoah Valley. The college towns -- Harrisonburg, Lexington, and Blacksburg -- are north, south, and south of them. The infamous C'ville is east of them, but on the other side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Definitely a redder part of the state, but not immune from infestation by the blue flu.

I hope this continues everywhere. Hoping the lock downs open some eyes...
If thier eyes weren't open 15 years already as to what's been stolen from them forget them. They're Fuct.Hopeless. Lost. The only fix is to probably to shoot them and they're mostly all members of cult marx anyway. The window to clean out is coming. At some point between SHTF (coming though don't know when) and the aftermath there will be a good window for hunting. You ready? Got enough hard hearted friends do you? How about you? Very few do - including many commenting here. I don't know about anone here, but I'm damn sick of living like this.... for long time. Promise.
