The plan for a phased reopening is proceeding as well as could be expected. But we're having difficulties with restaurants, with recalcitrant owners complaining that the requirements for cleaning restrooms every 30 minutes, asking customers to wear masks at all times except when actually putting food in their mouths, petty and meaningless floor decals, the expense of preparing large numbers of single-use menus, forbidding buffets and self-serve stations, etc. being onerous and unnecessary. Customer registration is also going well, and we totes swear that we will not be using any information gathered to track movements outside of public health concerns. But we are having difficulty establishing the whereabouts of a number of citizens who have registered at various restaurants in the state: Heywood Jablome Mike Oxlong Daffy Duck Hugh G. Rection Queen Victoria I. P. Freeley Jenna Talia Drew Peacock Brock O'Leigh Anita Gofradump Ross Ewage Phil McKraken Emperor Palpatine Incontinentia Buttocks Miles O'Toole Colin Oscopy E. Norma Stits Buzz Lightyear Chris P. Bacon Richard Nixon Amanda Huggandkiss If you know the whereabouts of any of these individuals, please contact our Restaurant Enforcement Compliance Officer Karen Von Snoop at 303-XXX-XXXX. Thank you. Jared, Gov.

Most of you know they did make a movie together, namely, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Most of you probably don't know, however, that they also appeared together in a comedy movie, Lookin' To Get Out. Since it has a 1982 release date, Angelina must've been, what, 7 or 8 years old? And since her name appears way down toward the bottom of the credits, it was probably a very small part. I think that even at that age, her beauty was enough to attract the attention of Hollywood child rapists, so I really hope her father was able to protect her from them. Today's Edition Of The Morning Rant Is Brought To You By Baked Sour Cream Donuts: "make glaze" should be "maple glaze". Donut recipe here. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Also I've read that she was a rather proper lady. When she and David Niven and Cary Grant were doing The Bishop's Wife right after WWII, she instituted a no-swearing rule on the set. Huh. My headset includes a little gadget that lifts the receiver on my desk phone to pick up and hang up based on a button-push on the headset itself or the base station. To detect ringing, the lifter has a small microphone.
I just learned that if I am using the headset with another device (like my computer, which is the primary) and cough just right, it registers as ringing and will chirp to inform me of the incoming call on the other line. My coughing is apparently indistinguishable from a ringing phone. Must be disturbing for others... Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at May 22, 2020 11:22 AM (hYcqw) 68

====also willowed from previous thread Zuckerberg: Facebook could get to about half of staff working remotely permanently in 5-10 years and will be the "most forward-leaning company on remote work" .. is Mark that paranoid ? Silicon Valley is about to empty out their buildings. The trend had been going this way but then there was pushback as too many people were vanishing and not responding from their remote locations. Managing remote workers is really hard. Chinese Lung Aids turned everybody into a remote worker. Facilities costs or second only to labor costs so if the company can make it work it is a benefit. Remote work is great in many ways but has massive drawbacks. The constant "loyalty test" to see how fast you respond to boss's messages, reaching out at all hours with work requests, the Expectation of Constant Connectivity No Matter What can be far more stressful than navigating a little traffic with coffee and Sirius radio. You have to be a self-starter, something of an introvert and be able to set boundaries with your bosses in order to make it work. Silicon Valley is about to empty out their buildings. The trend had been
going this way but then there was pushback as too many people were vanishing and not responding from their remote locations. Otherwise WFH will quickly become "On Call 24/7" ---------- There is a place for remote work. But I don't think it will be as big as people are thinking. While people are working remotely now, the GDP is way down. There is simply less work to do. As GDP rises, and work increases, it will be more difficult to work from home. As you say, not everyone wants to work from home. In addition, the more you work from home, the more you will be expected to be on call 24 hours a day. Trends are already sort of pushing us there, but this will accelerate it. Which naturally means, there will eventually be a backlash from it. Posted by: SH at May 22, 2020 11:34 AM (sX1BW) 156

"You DO know the second you touch that mask outside
of a sterile environment, you have defeated the very purpose for the mask, don't you? " Posted by: rickb223 There is SOME science behind using the mask. It is all percentages ... a tight fitting mask is better, still not perfect. Same goes with touching the mask ... yes, that would allow a minimal chance of few "germs" getting through, but it is largely about the amount of inoculum. To become "infected" takes a certain amount, varying according to the health of the victim, for one thing. Same goes for an infected person spreading the virus, which in my view, comes mostly by exhalation ... more when talking, even more when sneezing. So the whole "masks don't work at all" is not really the point ... it will control an infected person from spreading greater volumes of inoculum when he is in the asymptomatic but infectious stage. BUT only unhealthy (by age or comorbidity) people will face real risk, and the rest need to get mildly infected to build herd immunity. Or we surrender to a new communist normal that destroys free enterprise while we wait for the vaccine that never comes. Vulnerable people should stay home more, maybe even get HCQ as a prophylactic, especially if they are working in a public contact environment. But masks are not sterile technique, they are for minimizing the inoculum spewing from the mouth ... the question is whether that does more harm than good for the 99.5% non-infectious (those that have recovered or in early stages are not infectious) forced to wear them, that get less oxygen (plus other problems). imo Posted by: illiniwek at May 22, 2020 11:36 AM (Cus5s) 177

You can't really say that. If 70% of the people living in a state are left wing, then the state is left wing. Rocks and trees don't vote. Real estate doesn't count in politics. She had an illegitimate daughter with Clark Gable that she passed off as her sister. The daughter wrote a "Mommie Dearest" tell all about her.
______________ She passed her off as her adopted daughter. When Loretta married Tom Lewis, he adopted the kid (whose name was Judy Lewis, she died at age 76 in 2011). Judy Lewis wrote a book about how she didn't learn that Gable was her father until she was 23, and her fiancee told her that it was common knowledge in the entertainment community. Lewis said she was shocked, but she didn't ask her mother about it until she was 31, after Gable had died. Loretta admitted it was true. Lewis wrote a book in which she told the public that Gable was her father, and Loretta didn't speak to her for three years. They eventually reconciled. Loretta also admitted Gable was Judy's father in her own bio, but she told that author that he couldn't publish it until after she was dead. Possibly apocryphal story, when Truman was being considered, he was hemming and hawing. They called Harry on the phone, various handlers cooing and cajoling ol' Harry, but he was being demure. So FDR was brought in, and a charade was set up so Truman was meant to believe FDR did NOT know Harry was on the phone. And FDR threw a tantrum, telling everyone in the room he didn't care what anyone else said, that they were all full of it, and all their recommendations were unacceptable to him. In response, he started writing his memoir, Computer Connections.[15] The memoir,[23][24][25] which he distributed only to a few friends, expressed his frustration that people did not seem to value elegance in software,[18] and it said of Gates, "He is divisive. Except that the *vast* majority of the population is in the Front Range so that there's not much "the rest of the state" can do to change things. Weld and Larimer counties (geographically large and with decent population size) are in the Front Range, but ever since they were rolled with Boulder as an election district they have been essentially silenced. She passed her off as her adopted daughter.

"The Mask of Fu Manchu" (1932) is one of the most embarrassingly racist Hollywood movies I can think of - the entire script is full of lines about how Europeans are naturally superior to the genetically defective orientals in every way, it's really an awful script. Now surprisingly, I think this is a very entertaining movie to watch, because Boris Karloff and Myrna Loy are in it, and they answer the question - what to do really good actors do when they get stuck in a bad movie with an absolutely horrible script? Why, they get in a little informal rivalry with each other as to who can overact and chew up the scenery the most in every scene they're in. You can almost sense them winking at each other, and saying "Hey get a load of what I'm gonna do next!!!" It's Myrna Loy's most provocative performance, by far, as the Evil sex crazed daughter of Fu Manchu.
Watching the two of them turns this movie from something awful into something truly enjoyable, and entertaining. Also, for fans of Flash Gordon, the movie - I strongly suspect that the characters of Emperor Ming and Princess Aura, as written, were partly based on Karloff's and Loy's characters in this one, especially the sexual overdrive. "Also, for fans of Flash
Gordon, the movie - I strongly suspect that the characters of Emperor Ming and Princess Aura, as written, were partly based on Karloff's and Loy's characters in this one, especially the sexual overdrive." Perhaps, but the three movie serials were fairly faithful adaptations of Alex Raymond's comic strip, and the characters of Ming and Aura look a lot like Raymond's originals. The first serial reflected the "oriental" version of the strip, from the early to mid 1930s; while the third reflected late 1930s version of the strip's, after Raymond had remade Mongo into a quasi-fascist state. Speaking of racist movies, I recently viewed "Check and Double-Check", which is an Amos'n'Andy "comedy" from the the early 1930s. If, like me, you're into jazz, it's worth seeing for the cameos by a very young Duke Ellington and his band; but the movie itself is beyond horrible. Amos and Andy are played by two white guys in burnt cork, and the script trots out every racist cliche in the book. It's a really nasty piece of work. And, unfortunately, it was also quite popular.
