The Morning Report - 5/20/20

goolagg.jpg

Good morning, kids. Wednesday, and another grim milestone of yet another day of America held hostage.

Despite the justifiably depressing nature of some of the links, I am going to continue my cautiously optimistic mood from yesterday as there are some positive signs that perhaps the state of siege is in the process of lifting, to paraphrase Hemingway, "gradually and then suddenly." After being rebuked by the Wisconsin State Supreme Court, Dem dictator Tony Evers has accepted the defeat and is not going to challenge the decision. His blathering about how people are going to drop dead by the bushel as a result just does not jibe with the reality on the ground in places like Georgia, Texas and Colorado where the lockdowns have been more or less fully lifted, and infections and actual deaths from the Chinese Lung AIDS are either holding steady or falling off. He knows it and people across the country know it.

UPDATE: In Colorado it's only a slight lifting. Consider me chastised.

Unfortunately you still have the deplorable despots, bitterly clinging to their narratives and memes, both because power-tripping is a helluva drug and of course to attempt to strangle the President's reelection chances by destroying the economy. But more and more, that strategy, despite causing untold suffering and misery, is backfiring as Trump's job approval numbers remain at record highs. The President himself, who as Federalism and law dictate left it up to the governors to handle the "crisis" individually, nevertheless fired a warning shot across their bow:

... Trump, whose administration last month revealed guidelines for when states should begin lifting stay-at-home orders and other social distancing measures meant to slow the spread of the virus, has vocally pushed for the rapid reopening of the economy. The president said in an interview with Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo last week that his critics want the economy to remain shuttered until the November election, calling Democrats' reluctance to lift the coronavirus measures "a political thing."

"The governors are making their decisions, and want to make their decisions, and that's the way I want it to, and we will step in if we see something going wrong, or if we disagree, and some people say that's nice, and some people say I shouldn't be doing that, but we're going to do it if we see something wrong..."

The nuts and bolts of how he does this, or even if legally he can take direct action to force the recalcitrant rulers' hands (which invariably will result in immediate lawsuits to tie his hands), is almost beside the point. Where there is one Shelly Luther and Karl Manke there are untold millions who stand in solidarity with them. A political wind the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane is at the President's back, and he knows it, as apparently does Tony Evers. But he may be an outlier, as we now see from the completely idiotic and insane comments from Bill DeBolshevik, who threatened to send in the cops to literally drag bathers out of the ocean if they dare defy him and go for a swim, or schmucks like LA's Eric Garcetti who has all but declared Los Angeles to be imprisoned indefinitely.

It is now clear that a large number of state governments have decided to morph what had originally been called a very temporary lock down and request to social distance into a permanent state of martial law, with their governors retaining the right to rule by edict for as long as they personally deem.

As most states begin to move forward with measures to reopen their economies following strict lockdowns aimed at slowing the spread of the [Chinese] coronavirus, some governors and big-city mayors are now saying the restrictions will not fully be lifted until a vaccine or treatment for the disease is available - a timeline that could take a year or more.

The leaders' comments indicate Americans could be living with orders restricting personal and economic activity for much longer than many anticipate...

In every single one of these cases, expect the rules to change, once it appears that their stated conditions for lifting their dictatorships might finally arrive. At that time it will suddenly be for other reasons their totalitarian rule must continue, for our safety of course. That is their standard operating procedure, to lie repeatedly for their own benefit...

These are the new fascists, the new brown-shirts, the new political thugs. They are no different than past fascists, brown-shirts, and political thugs. And they are in power because a large percentage of the populations in these [Democrat] states either happily approve their policies of squashing down and destroying those who disagree with them, or are too ignorant and lazy to oppose those policies...

Well, the question is how long can individuals like Noose-'em, Angel-of-Death Cuomo, Sitz-Pritzker, Kate Brown-Shirt, Jay Inbreed and all the others hold out? Again, it raises the question of what can Trump really do to make them cry uncle? Despite its eternal goal of destroying the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, it nevertheless will use them as both a shield and a cudgel when politically expedient. With a corrupt unelected fourth branch of government in the bureaucracy as well as a usually reliable and nearly equally corrupt Judiciary to rubber stamp regulations that could never be passed legislatively nor honestly won at the voting both, this has been their MO at least since the Wilson era, if not before.

It raises the central dilemma that we, the President and decent Americans have faced since almost as long: how are we supposed to counter a now openly anti-American political entity - the Democrat-Media Complex and Party - by relying on the rules, norms and customs that they themselves ignore and subvert in order to maintain their power? The Bush's and RINOs went along with the charade because they were a part of it. The rest of us just threw up our hands in disgust. But the election of Trump truly overturned the tables of the moneychangers. Whatever gossamer-thin illusion of normalcy that for decades maintained the status quo is gone. What we have gone through these past three months, on top of the 5 years of the attempt to take out Trump, and indeed the 8-year Obama Reign of Error made sure of that.

The question I posed, though, still remains. But perhaps the answer doesn't necessarily lie with an honest and decent President, nor reliance on institutions and traditions that, as amply demonstrated by the likes of Comey, Clapper, Brennan, as well as Emmet Sullivan, Amy Berman Jackson and John Roberts, are thoroughly corrupt top to bottom.

If federalism is the legitimate reason for states having the authority to deal independently with crises, real or imagined, federalism as outlined in the 9th and 10th amendment also reserves ultimate authority and rights to the individual citizen. Shelly Luther and Karl Manke, as all of us have, obeyed the emergency decrees and lockdown orders because of assurances that they would be temporary. Yet as time wore on, the more that was revealed, the more the goalposts shifted, and the more onerous and capricious the prohibitions became, despite the disease being nowhere near as deadly to the general population as first believed (or pimped).

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness rest with the individual. That is the essence of what this country was founded on. The only resolution to this crisis - the forcible imprisonment of the people and not the Sino Sinus Syphilis - rests with each of us as individuals to engage in civil disobedience and lift the lockdowns ourselves. As I stated, the Left only recognizes the Constitution in the breach and when it suits their political ends. The fact that we have to engage in civil disobedience to exercise that which G-d gave us and is enumerated in that document is proof enough that we have crossed one big-ass Rubicon:

..."We haven't had any bloodshed yet," one member of a Facebook group called Michiganders Against Excessive Quarantine recently wrote.

We hope there is none. But tempers are short. One man has already been charged with making death threats against Whitmer and the state attorney general. And we've seen members of the Michigan Militia swear they aren't going to allow law enforcement to arrest [Karl Manke] an Owosso barber who reopened his business because he had no other income. How long can she hold back demands for freedom - in America?...

The control that politicians and unelected bureaucrats who are advising them have been exerting is clearly slipping away, and they are facing a choice: They can work with the people who feel suffocated and expeditiously restore as much normalcy as possible, or they can remain on their present course, which increases the chances there'll be violence because either a protester or someone in a security line will make a poor decision of out anger or fear, and then pay the price on Election Day...

Lift the lockdowns. Liberate America.

Every time I see this said I know the person who said it does not live in CO. We are NOT "more or less fully lifted." For the love of God, Polesmoker now says bars and restaurants may NEVER reopen for indoor dining and drinking. Never, That was supposed to be Phase II.

CO hasn't even reached Phase II, and our dicksipping Governor says bars and restaurants may never reopen as normal. That is not "reopening." That is not "more or less fully lifted." Come to CO and tell me this shit is more or less fully lifted.

39 re JJ's opening dialogue, I think there is an important voter dialogue about to open in the lockdown states, vastly Blue in nature...

Are you happy about your gubner's decision making policies? Will you condone, or demand a political change in course?

In all 50 labs of democracy, this will be front and center. Trump has wisely pushed the questions there. He's claimed certain powers as the nation's executive, but NOT exercised it.

And the failures of the centrally controlled shitholes have been manifest.

I'm kinda anxious to see those outcomes at the polls.

49 The best thing Mr. Trump can do, I believe, is nothing. Let the tyrannical governors fly their freak flags. Let them all pull their pants down.

If We The People continue to do nothing at that point, and let those tyrants stay in office, well, you reap what you sow.

As much as I despise the stupidity of this whole experience, I think there are lessons to be learned here, and a whole lot of people on a whole lot of levels are being exposed, from tyrant governors, mayors, county officials, and the like, all the way down to cops and people we all know now would very cheerfully collaborate with the PLA if they ever invaded the country.

But I am with you - I am also feeling the optimism creeping in. I guess being angry & frustrated for 70 days can do weird shit to the psyche.
But I have paid attention to all of the times I was down on the President and questioned him so many times only to see what happened on the other side was actually good.

And there is the lie-- they want you to think it was the data

There's a lot of thinkpiece articles to which JJ links which I wish I had the patience to read, but I'm in a hurry to get through the headlines. "Maybe later" I say, and then sometimes I really do get back to them.

Sometimes, like with a link today, I get into an article and find some kind of speedbump. In the 2nd paragraph of the "We Were Never Asked" link:

"In the early days of the coronavirus, everyone went from being carefree and complacent to scared in the blink of an eye."

blink blink. Who? Where? Everyone? Scared? Blink of an eye? Really? Yes, I know a great many LIK's did, buuuut....

I realize the writer is just writing emphatically, but this blanket exaggeration is just too general. For one thing, I'm too dumb to have been scared. But mainly, "everyone" didn't anything. Much less in a blink.

Well, put that article off for later attempt, and back to headlines for now.

148 One thing to keep in mind about the bafflement over Trump's popularity numbers is the fact that the commentariat is congenitally given to prefab thinking. In their minds, the ONLY way a conservative can succeed is by being like Reagan.

This overlooks the fact that RWR had a style peculiar to himself. Yes, he had great charm, both natural and developed. But they forget that Thatcher wasn't like that, and she set a record for longest serving PM. Nixon had absolutely none of that, and he utterly kicked ass in 1972.

I expect we will, in the future, see a conservative attacked for lacking Trump's instinct for the jugular. The "preparing for the last war" cliche is actually a distortion when talking about the military. But it's a bull's eye when talking about the bandar log in the chattering classes.

A lot of her commenters are prolix and, IMO, too full of themselves. The few times I've seen us mentioned, it's that we're crude and sophomoric. Which, of course, means they've never hung around beyond a few Hope Solo jokes to see some real world-class commentary.

In IL and many "blue states", it is the big cities that have imported a "new people" ... and Dems cheat. My county voted 70% Trump, as did most of downstate. ... Hillary won by 5-10%, I forget. Chicago was turned into a Hispanic city over the last 35 years from legal and illegal encouraged invasion. Mexican gangs now prominent.

Trump and Rs do need to "court" the black and Hispanic vote, but the Orwellian media and BigMoney and BigCrime all drive the FakeNarrative Bus. The RedPill Awakening is happening even as the sadists thrust the welfare dildo into everyone, but pushing suffering on the people is apparently a tried and tested path to cries for BigGov to save us, and give them societal submission.

It seems it will take some well aimed resistance to take out the most tyrannical governors and whatever Stasi they deploy, but no one is ready for that ... yet. November will tell us a lot about how successful this plandemic attack on liberty has been. The planned attack has been a forced behavior modification straight jacket on liberty, with the karens evangelizing for a police state. tick tock.

Sad, Alone", "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" and "Run in the sun. Have Fun". The signs will probably disappear either because it's windy or because someone will rip them down, but I felt good about doing it, and I had the reward of seeing a tiny fawn nestled in the grass by the pathway. Thanks to the people on ASHQ who provided some of the slogans above.

It seems to me that a critical and key part of clinical drug trials is to present proof of the "First, do no harm!" guidance. I would posit that this has been amply proven already in multiple countries and across probably millions of patients. This should mean that the ONLY remaining testing detail is the assessment of the efficacy of the drug against RedDeath-19.

Trump should have said "Ignore all the many positive results of HCQ treatment, it is a deadly deadly drug!", and the media would have been recommending that it be available at the local 7-11.

Been saying that all along. Then we get the trickle effects of fewer commuters, less toll revenue from the bridges and access ways to major cities, less gas tax revenue for the states. Not that I fault the companies for this, but the employees that work from home are now subsidizing the company they work for by providing free office space for the company. On the institutional side and colleges in particular are going to be putting off building maybe forever with distance learning and students at home. Then add the student related housing market on top of that. UVM here pretty much required all upperclassmen to find housing in the local market, there is going to be a gut of apartments this fall. Lots of things are not going to be the way they used to be.

275 That is bad. The problem is that, given the original hair-on-fire predictions of Georgia becoming a ghost state, remaining steady was a flat out embarrassment to them. This gives them a way to use CYA deflection from that. "See, Georgia had to backtrack". (To a position that disproves what they said, but never mind.)
Posted by: Eeyore at May 20, 2020 08:57 AM (ZbwAu)

I wouldn't say it's bad, it's petty. I watch the Texas COVID dashboard, with all of the State numbers, and with that much data there's always glitches where something gets misreported for a day or two, and then cleaned up later. With the great increase in testing, it is expected that measured cases should continue to climb, so the drop in cases in Georgia made no sense.

but remember how last week, Internet trolls were crowing about how Texas had recorded the most deaths per day yet? Every day after that, the daily death total has dropped dramatically, coming in at 22 yesterday.

New Hospitalizations and Daily Deaths are the only important numbers, Cast totals is not an important number.

Oh I agree, just like the consolidation that is coming in the Education establishment. or JC Penney closing 240 stores. The problem, economically, is that the employee layoffs happen over a matter of weeks, while replacing those jobs with others will take years. I fear we have to prepare for an unemployment rate on election day that is still going to be at least 15%.

also, American Airlines had previously implemented 36,000 furloughs but had hoped they could bring them back in the fall. They have been putting out information that they are now going to pursue a permanent downsizing, and will make most of those furloughs permanent.

285 One beauty of our republican democracy is the organization around our states. When people in one restrictive state see individuals in other free states inconsequentially enjoying their rightful liberty, it provides a visual basis to the despotic lies.

If people want to blind themselves to the fraud that some of these Blue State governors are perpetrating, they are free to believe the lies- to their ultimate detriment. It's the same behavior that brought this down upon them in the first place. Some of them will petulantly refuse to see it. They will continue to play politics like its a team sport. But that will be to their detriment, and the security of their family. It's the height of ignorance and against their long term self interest. While I fear a fair amount of people have been lulled into believing that politics and voting for a particular party is their primary concern, this situation has given a large amount of people reason to pause. That's why Democrats are trying to create more divisions and distractions- they don't want to lose the control they have over what has become their zombie army of voters, because it will be their end.

It's really the fault of that sector to adapt. That was their downfall.

A lot of people like the department store model. They like walking in and touching or trying on what they are going to buy. That paradigm has a lot to offer, especially now that the online model is maturing and people see some of the flaws.

Retail department stores mostly failed to manage their very expensive real estate footprints, downsize locations and improve their inventory management. They didn't adapt to consumer needs.

Hopefully this will get some who remain to change their paradigms and modernize the way they manage things.

325 Even with some safe practices, there will be more deaths from ChinaVirus is we open up than if everyone stays locked in their home (even as the virus diminishes naturally). BUT the Death by Lockdown numbers will improve dramatically the more we open up.

The balance sheet has to compare virus death to lock down death, they never do that ... "if it saves one life" is nonsense, when it costs us liberty and a millions dead from economic collapse. It depends, I guess, on whether you like to travel heeled or not. Driving thru IL with a gun in your car, no matter how well you have made it inoperative, is NO EXCUSE.

Frankly, when I plan a multistate trip, I pay particular attention to the prevalent gun laws for each possible state.

349 Malls are just not sustainable. Huge areas with huge heating and cooling bills. Difficult to control shoplifting. Huge structural upkeep. Mall owners continually upping the rent. Great for the shopper being out of the elements but horrible for the stores. The first store I managed in a mall you couldn't keep merchandise by the front entrance from being stolen. Learned to put the cheap crap up there.
That mall was bulldozed several years ago. Now a strip shopping center. Mush better use of space. Easier for restaurants to utilize space in a strip center.

On the institutional side and colleges in particular are going to be putting off building maybe forever with distance learning and students at home. 400 imo the Arbery article is crap ... "Any conversation about the situation needs to begin with the fact that this young man did not deserve to die. Full stop." ... they then list a series of strawmen about vigilantism and "...citizens are not required to submit to the will of someone who is not working in law-enforcement and is brandishing a weapon."

According to video and Branca, the McMichaels tried to talk to him to get him to stop, but did not block his path or threaten him with weapons. They legally carried weapons in a defensive posture. Arbery ran past the truck (not clear, but I think they had driven past him and asked him to stop more than once) ... this time Arbery turned and assaulted the man with the gun. It's on the friggin video ... but ignored by most articles.

Since Arbery assaulted and had the weapon in his hands, this is assault (with a deadly weapon?) ... and maybe he does deserve to die, as opposed to him deserving to take the gun and kill the citizens. The article says it is wrong to defame the character of Arbery to justify the shooting. Wrong again ... the actions on the scene are the point, and the history of Arbery is just more verification they had a legit reason to follow and ask him to stop.

In general I prefer an armed responsible citizenry to waiting for police, especially as shoplifting and burglary become special rights of the "oppressed class". The main "nuance" that writer needs to expose is the narrative push that is used (and the same people pushing it), using the same lies and tactics as with Trayvon and hands up don't shoot Brown. The media racism has been against the white shooters.

A problem for the McMichaels - if you are on the street in public, and a criminal approaches you and pulls a gun on you, you have the right to attempt to disarm him, because "brandishing" a weapon is, under the Law, a deadly threat. Now it is not smart to do that, you'll probably get shot doing that, but if you, the unarmed man, try to disarm an armed man who is threatening you, he's going to be guilty of your death when that gun goes off. The great irony here is that Arbery is the one who had the legal right of self defense in that situation, because the McMichael's initiated the confrontation by tracking him and then by brandishing a firearm.

463 Actually, I don't see much changing in MI. They have 39 weeks of unemployment, which will take them through the election. They can be locked down until then. Hell, they can be locked down indefinitely, as long as they keep getting a check. They will vote Democrat, because Herr Whitler is "keeping them safe."

And yes, I've heard that from progs and RINOs in that state.

The Voter Fraud and Cheating by the Democrats will be epic this year.

I hope Trump has a plan to counter this.

Reverting bankrupt states to territories might just do the trick. But, not sure what's involved in that.

This is why the Vice Preezy choice is so important for Biden.

The Dims don't expect his to actually win,

they just want him close enough to let the cheating and fraud carry him over the hump.

466 Jr. McMicheals didn't "brandish" the shotgun. He carried it out in the open and kept it pointed down. He followed the GA law for carrying long guns and rifles to the letter. Brandish is the wrong word to use here.

468 >> Sherrod Brown-Note: "How Many Workers Should Give Their Lives" to "Juice" GDP or the Stock Market?

I like the assumption that these are "workers" for companies on the stock exchange, instead of what this really is about: small business owners and the independently employed (i.e. privately owned) who want to opportunity to save their businesses.

The Restraining Order has never worked an honest day in his pampered taxpayer financed life so as usual he's woefully uninformed and talking out his fat ass.

471 Why didn't Aubrey call the cops ASAP 30 before running towards the truck? Why didn't he turn right or left and call the cops? Sr. McMicheals was on the phone with the cops the entire time... something you don't do if you are hunting people and committing a crime or plan on committing a crime.

Joe Biden just compared President Trump taking Hydroxychloroquine, a drug that has been prescribed to people for 65 years by doctors, to injecting himself with Clorox.

No, this is the same shit as always. The more regular schomes who take this drug and don't drop dead, the harder it will be for the Karens to keep everyone in hysterics.

473 I don't care if you're scared to vote, sick, or on vacation. I'm willing to allow military or people serving in support roles to the military to vote from a distance, but everyone else can wake up and get to the polls on election day if it matters to them.

474 If you go to the worldometer site and scroll down the page to daily deaths chart you'll see this curious 7 day cycle in the number of daily deaths. That is because government reports of daily deaths get delayed by two days, once by the government collecting it and once by the site in reporting it. Because govt agencies are closed on weekends the total looks small on weekends then explodes on Monday when the weekend deaths get reported. Smooth out that 7 day variation, and the daily deaths are clearly on the down side of the classic epidemic curve.

475 "He followed the GA law for carrying long guns and rifles to the letter. Brandish is the wrong word to use here."

right, even those on the right have imagined these two as ignorant racists ... they were not trying to make a citizen's arrest ... seems clearer now that they knew EXACTLY the implications and differences between brandishing and defensively carrying. They had probably trained themselves on those very important distinctions.

Educating the public is hard though, in the face of the Racist Narrative combined with the anti-gun narrative ... Three prosecutors decided not to prosecute, it took a fourth from the state level to come drive the left's narrative ... as with Trayvon and the other racist Holder/Lynch driven persecutions via "white man with gun=guilty".

477 Oberfhurerer Whitmer issues new order: people forbidden to die of Covid-19.

In the order she states nobody in Michigan will be allowed to die from the disease. All residents of the state are now required to tape an airtight, plastic bag over over their heads and around their necks. This bag prevents the virus from being able to infect the wearer. In a test of 2000 loyal Democrats not a single person died from the virus after following the procedure. "Remember my orders are not suggestions."
