The Cost Of Freedom

The political philosophy of the founders was not predicated on overarching government. It was not based on some communitarian concept of shared responsibility and equal distribution of the fruits of our labor.

It was based on personal responsibility, the idea that we will rise or fall based on our own accomplishments and hard work. And the reason why we have been the most successful country in the history of the world is that the freedom and liberty once guaranteed by the Constitution enabled us to work harder and accomplish more.

And fail and die. But the stunning and unprecedented success of the country as a whole was accelerated by that uncertainty. You can call it chaos or disorder or a dozen other words, but it is an unavoidable result of freedom. We have to accept a degree of uncontrolled behavior and unexpected and sometimes dangerous events because we are (or were) a free people, who act in wildly different ways...in their own best interests.

Do you want to decrease crime? That's easy. Violate our civil rights, gut the Constitution, search and seize at will, create a police state, and poof! Our crime rate will drop. Want to decrease automobile deaths? Just as easy! Put governors on every car, have real-time transmission of driving behavior that goes straight to the cops. Then the recalcitrant driver either gets fined or jailed. No trial.

Extrapolate that to diet and exercise and littering and medical care and the thousands of things we do because we want to, and others be damned, and our society will be calm and ordered and a total and dismal failure.

Destroying the economic security and success of millions of Americans to prevent a marginal increase in the death rate from seasonal disease is functionally identical to creating such a police state.

Time to Sideline the False Prophets of Doom

The warning from the nation’s top public health official was terrifying.

“This is going to be our Pearl Harbor moment, our 9/11 moment, only it’s not going to be localized,” U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams said on Fox News last Sunday, referring to coming deaths due to the novel coronavirus. “It’s going to be happening all over the country. And I want America to understand that.”
00:00

Holy Week, Adams further cautioned, would be the “hardest and saddest week of most Americans’ lives.”

President Trump echoed Adams’ dire prediction. “We are coming up onto a time that’s going to be very horrendous, probably a time like we haven’t seen in this country,” Trump said from the White House on April 4. Instead of celebrating Easter and Passover this week, the president soberly admonished, Americans would instead see “some very bad numbers” about people succumbing to COVID-19.

We are a free people, and one of the trade-offs is that we must accept more uncertainty and chaos in return for that freedom. We cannot allow government to destroy our freedoms to save us from their convenient bogeymen*. This year it is Chinese Flu, next year it will be gun violence, the year after will be GMOs in our cereal, and on and on and on.

It is time to take back some modicum of control over our own lives. When government feels emboldened to tell us not worship as we see fit, not to associate with those whom we desire, not to go where we wish, then it is time to push back.

*We have always been at war with Eastasia. We have always been allies of Eurasia.

16 Happy Easter everyone! And remember that this whole flattening the curve nonsense was just to spare the health-care people from being overwhelmed. It doesn't even reduce the eventual death toll so we are going through all of this for nothing. But it's our fault if we don't rise up and smite them and let them know at the top of our lungs that we are so over this and we are not going to take it anymore. Of time for some civil disobedience!

21 Well put, and I have noted before, sometimes to criticism, that chaos is essential to life.

If you achieved absolute order, you'd have a system where nothing even moved - there would be no uncertainty of any kind. Everything would be as it is forever.

Too much chaos, and everything flies apart at the speed of light, every atom zipping across the universe untethered from any other. That's also not exactly conducive to life either, but at least another Big Bang might create life again, somewhere, somehow.

Life is found in the balance of these extremes, casually violating entropy by making itself more complex over time, yet stumbling forward into new environments and even now taking its first baby steps into the vastness of space.

A little too much chaos is better than too much order. Jefferson was right, the ills that attend too much liberty are preferable to those that attend too little.

When you stifle a society's creative spark, through onerous rules, regulations, and taxes, it dies. Stagnation follows, and ultimately complete failure.

These people have an unhealthy obsession with order, which is itself an unhealthy level of pride, as they imagine this order emanating from themselves or their clique, that they are the ones who can level out what the human condition has made crooked.

22 Unfortunately, we were already in a police and surveillance state, just not one to this blatant a degree. The Fourth and Fifth Amendments have been under attack and greatly eroded as part of the War on Drugs and the War on Terror. The Second has been under attack since the 1930s, and we're seeing outright cancellation of both the First and Second by local and state authorities.

Yet if one seeks to remove uncertainty, one removes hope.

Plus racism and inequality is making the death rates worse in certain communities of color, who also suffer worse form the comic shut down BTW, and the rich are just escaping in their yachts and mansions while the plague wipes out the masses, especial the poor dark ones. Oh, and don't forget, We Are All In This Together!

More than half what I read about this pandemonium has a lot less to do with the medical aspects of this and the focus is now racism and inequality. And how this can be used to address global warming and need for universal healthcare . And free day care and.... The narrative is being set in place and will now be hammered home endlessly.

It is making me sick watching this, although not unexpected. We will be suffering form this virus shutdown for years., it will be like trying to get rid of Obamacare. The left has not let this crisis go to waste.

One of the great ironies of this whole experience is that the biggest advocates of the "we're all in this together" noise also seem to be the ones who can't stop screeching on Twitter Facebook, NextDoor and at the checkout stand at Safeway about their own individual beliefs, myths, experience and travails. "It's all about MEEEE!" "You're not wearing a mask, you're endangering MEEEE!" etc. Me, me, me, me, me, me, me!!!

64 imo we need a strong federal government, to do the things specified in the constitution. Military is most obvious, but as society advanced, so did the various ways that BigPowers would organize against individual sovereignty (and national sovereignty).

So we are well served by food safety, until they start pushing a bad diet on us. And worse when China bribes their way in and sells us drugged up fish/shrimp, and knocks out American farmed fish or whatever.

We are well served by local bankers (even with the 10% cash reserve, imo), but as the conglomerates go global and own our congress, and set up the IMF and BiS ... suddenly un-elected globalists and making and breaking nation states, playing a shadow government role.

The federal reserve is necessary, imo, but not when it has been corrupted to serve the elites, and to enable us to fund "socialism". Our current highly socialist system is carried by unlimited debt, on the back of the good faith and credit (and military), which strength we all sacrificed for, but that others have infiltrated and seized.

this whole interview is good, but I cued it to the point where DiMartino (former fed person) shows the fed is not privately owned, and has a necessary purpose (e.g. protect us from the frauds of China), but it has been corrupted indeed.

Interesting story on Portland Reddit - a couple of Portland nurses signed a 13-week contract to go to New York to fight the CCP virus, and plunked down a big deposit on an AirBnB apartment to to have a place to live.

Then, their contract got cancelled, since there was no need for them, and they are having problems getting the apartment deposit back.

Why doesn't New York need nurses, when it is digging mass graves and all?

The job should have been to isolate and protect the vulnerable, not to equally share the misery so no one was left out. Lots of people get very sick every year from complications of viral illness, but we don't throw the brakes on everyone.

The govt should have come up with a way to do that. We didn't shut down for Hong Kong flu and we had fewer weapons in the arsenal then. We had 100,000 fatalities from it.

She played center for both sides.

Less so allegiance to Hillary, than pride.

Pride is at the center of everything they do. They are absolutely and completely sure that they are right, they are perfect, that they are the best ever and thus that their clique has a right to rule (and ultimately in their fantasy, they will get their turn in the big seat and prove themselves the greatest of all).

They had convinced themselves that it was time for a woman President. History proved them wrong, but pride can never admit being wrong, so reality itself had to be wrong and revolve around them as an axis of perfection.

Since the media has been pointing out that Blacks seem to be susceptible in larger numbers to the flu Manchu and noting that many blacks are crowded into Dem hellholes is not allowed.
Has anyone brought up that the Chinese are using the virus to exterminate black people in wholesale large numbers?
Given that China has a large presence in Africa, we dare not say colonies, it seems that a line of questions to the MSM and their Chinese masters could be interesting.

These kind of people, though they claim to be progressive, are enemies of progress. They would build a society where nothing ever changed, and they were at the top of it.

They don't care if nothing ever improves, or if mankind stagnates and wastes away into nothing, as long as they are in control.

They would rather command a sinking ship than shovel coal in one that'll make it back to port.

161 Our Pastor never chooses special messages or sets up sermons to coincide with the calendar.

So on Mother's Day, there is no preaching from Ruth or some out of sequence message. You might be in Romans, you might be in Isaiah.

Likewise, at Christmas, you may be in Luke or you might be in 1 Corinthians.

So lo and behold, what message should fall on this day? Romans 13: 1-7! A message on obeying government authority, as we all gathered in church, somewhat in defiance of much of America's heavy handed restriction on worship services.

So, I honestly wondered what the Pastor would say about it. I'm sure I wasn't the only one thinking it either.

Our Pastor then presented a sermon that carefully navigated the fact that in America, our civil authority is not a man, be he president or governor or mayor. Our civil authority is a document. And our adherence to civil authority is to stay in keeping with the authority of the Constitution. That where the Constitution guides us, we are to follow.

The amount of head-nodding during his sermon was unbelievable. I thought to myself at one point as I looked forward from the back of the sanctuary (I run the AV aptly the church during service) I was at a heavy metal concert filled with 60 year olds.

In America, our civil authority is the Constitution, and if we are to heed the civil authority, we are to maintain our right to peaceably assemble and to freely gather to worship.

This is why America is the greatest nation the earth has known. This is why Americans, freedom loving Americans, have found favor. This is why we have been the greatest force for our Father's intention for us, that all men be treated fairly, standing equally before the throne, not one greater than another, not one less worthy of possessing rights and liberties, and expected to act of our own volition for goodness instead of under the forceful hand of tyranny.

God could make you submit. He chooses instead that you would willingly come to Him. So too does our society and our governing authority, the God-inspired Constitution, hope and trust that we will live in harmony of our choice and free will and not under the forceful dictate of man.

He is risen, and on this day we remember that specifically and give honor and praise that Christ took our iniquities and unrighteousness on the cross for us as our kinsman redeemer.

Let's pray, too, that our Constitution and our will as a people, also be resurrected from what the world, and the political left, and those that have no knowledge or memory have declared and left for dead.

God bless you folks today and may our Father in heaven smile upon us and accept the true adoration of our hearts.

And NYC has a whole bunch of uninsured people going to the hospital and dying every single day even before this. It's literally a gold mine for them.

I suppose I could then refuse to leave the office and essentially dare my division chief to call security (and I really don't think that sissy would have the balls to call security on me), but it just doesn't seem like a sensible thing to do. I can't think of what concrete actions I could take that would take a stand.

I was looking on line for information about "exponential growth without limits" with an idea to determine just WTF some disease models, particularly the Imperial College model, were showing.

224 Note from New York City: I went to the ER at the hospital on 7th Avenue and 13th Street at 8:30 on Tuesday night 2 weeks ago -- it was EMPTY. There were two men ahead of me, and one was a street bum who was drunk and looking for somewhere free to sleep it off. I asked the nurse about it, and she said it has BEEN empty: then added somewhat sheepishly, "maybe everyone's afraid to come here."

Yeah, roight. New Yorkers are big babies for the most part, quick to run to the doctor if they have so much as a hangnail. I'm telling you, the hospitals are half empty because they've been ordered to ignore everything except this stupid cold virus. The ONLY hospitals that are slammed are the ones in neighborhoods like Elmhurst, Queens (always good for the "news" photo ops) that are swarmed with immigrants who treat the emergency room like their neighborhood clinic anyway: they're the ones creating this impression.
Re Hart Island, the potter's field of New York City: there are ALWAYS burials going on up there. That's nothing new, but the newsidiots have just now discovered it. Re burying people in mass graves in Central Park? utter bullshit. The same City Council retard who claimed that is the one who just a few weeks ago told us that anyone nervous about going to Chinatown to celebrate their New Year was RAYCISS.

About 1/4 of the people on the street aren't wearing the masks. I have one that I wear in the hallway because two of my neighbors have gone full GESTAPO and are out of their minds. I twitch it aside when I reach the street.

Time for us to ALL JUST SAY 'NO MORE', my friends. What are they going to do, arrest us all? and throw us in jail when they've emptied the jails of all the dangerous FELONS?
One more thing: notice how the newsidiots have done ZERO stories on the 30% increase in crime since they unleashed the felons on the rest of us? Hey, you know what? If we don't have the stones to fight back, we will deserve everything that happens to us from here on out. Resist, folks. Resist!

332 Given the developments to date, and the numbers, seems fairly likely Trump will signal mostly-clear pretty soon. Many states that have never had much of a problem will almost certainly be going that way, maybe even before the Scalp Weasel issues his decision.

Would be nice if various governors whose states are looking pretty good nonetheless tried to hold out, and suffered consequences. But I doubt they will.

333 We are a free people, and one of the trade-offs is that we must accept more uncertainty and chaos in return for that freedom.

And yes, that means a certain amount of gun crimes, and a larger than world-average of people incarcerated. Plus a huge number of lawyers to ride herd, so to speak. And that whole 'swift and certain justice' thingy too. In theory, I might add.

Every time someone says "there ought to be a law", you should cringe. One of Trump's singular achievements is a rollback of the regulatory state. The utter failures of the CDC and the FDA in this crisis are proof positive that we need fewer laws and regulations, not more. Red tape kills too.

The number of cases also includes epidemiologically-linked cases -- or cases where public health epidemiologists have determined that infection is highly likely because a person exhibited symptoms and had close contact with someone who tested positive. The number of epidemiologically-linked cases represents a very small portion of the reported cases." Won't report the percentage that are tested positive vs. just assumed positive.

Bikes and sports equipment are from the Easter Bunny. Books/indoor toys and jammies are from Santa Claus. My silly kidlets are still huffy because this old Santa/Bunny said graduated from college and earning lotsa $$$ means no more.

376 The Black Live Matter people are fucked in the head. I can find adjacent zip codes where black women die from childbirth at 10 to 25 times white women. Same goes for Planned Parenthood. They love aborting person of color babies.

FDR created a system to tell blacks that government would take care of them.

Blacks are an expense to government with no return. Hence giving money to illegals.

381 For Easter-y stuff I can recommend Andrea Bocelli singing from the Duomo in Milan, on his youtube channel. It was broadcast live earlier this afternoon (on youtube), but it is no less gorgeous in replay. It includes a beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace from the completely empty piazza outside the Duomo, which (as anyone who has been there or seen pictures) is a jarring sight to see.

Even ettes not interested in Bocelli might want to check out his youtube channel, as there are several duets with his son Matteo. My wife keeps a picture of Matteo in her wallet and introduces him as "her husband" to unsuspecting strangers.

I can't think of a better example of why it's not a good idea to have the ChiComs produce every single med there is. As he says, we can't stockpile since it's all got shelf life. But we sure as hell could ramp up production on certain meds if we were already making them here, instead of trying to put facilities in place first. Talk about putting all your eggs in one take out carton.

411 I am a conservative, and agree with the principles of the post. But I wonder if there IS a line somewhere?

Should we have turned the other cheek to the attack on Pearl Harbor, and let us react as individuals, rather than as a Nation? We lost a LOT of freedoms during WWII - invocation of the draft being, perhaps, the most obvious, but hardly the only one; lot of war-time restrictions on the economy, for example. Black-outs in cities - on and on.

415 I live in relative solitude despite trying to keep abreast of changes. I was caught unaware again by how Americans just accepted what the experts said and knuckled under to this economic disaster. It was another case of we must act now or the consequences will be dire - and I have seen this playbook far too often to trust it.

While I've been outside the pop culture for nearly four decades, we have birthed and reared several generations that accept everything the see and hear. I don't know how to undo this zombie like conditioning, but if it is not stopped soon, liberty will be lost and the American experiment finished.

P.S. Even Trump was co-opted by the experts as he turned his presidency over to them. I am curious to see how he wrests it back, if he does.
