More Mask Fails, Including... Democrat Politican Mask Fails
Plus, How to Make Your Own Reusable Mask Out of Kerchief and Some Rubber Bands

One one hand, these people are health-conscious and creative in bodging up improvised masks.

On the other hand: Dude, that's just a styrofoam cup.

Some of these are just silly, and are bids for social media attention. Still, some might find them amusing.

But the obvious winner for Ultimate Mask Fail Moron goes to...

Alleged Representative Sheila Jackson Lee.

More profiles in Democrat Medical Genius:

If you're worried the Shella Jackson Lee picture may be fake -- I don't think so. She was in fact at an event during which she wore a mask yesterday.

But wait -- what's this? Genuis-who-likes-to-brag-about-his-high-school-SAT schools C*ck Schumer:

Did the guy who still brags about his SAT scores forget that your nose is the organ that people (who are not mouthbreathers) do most of their breathing through?

This Hong Kong native shows you how to make a less ridiculous mask.

Now, I'm not a woman, so help me out -- the square of fabric is what, a kerchief?

And what do you call those elastic bands? Are they hair scrunchies or what?

87 Posted this in the Art thread.... but pertinent here.

Took doggie out for a walk this morning and was cutting through the grocery stores parking lot.

Watched a man wearing a mask get to teh door, take his mask off, wipe his face and hands with it, stuff in in his jacket pocket, then proceed to the carts where he handled at least three carts before he found one without a wobble.

God knows what he touched inside.

Now..... Im the first one the postulate we are all over reacting to COVID and the modeling is STILL wrong and the cure is going to be much worse than the disease.

But can we at LEAST have a CDC that doesnt lie to people about safety measures.

I deal everyday with PPE. Im certified in lead and asbestos cleanup, biohazard handling and human remains cleanup.

The gloves and bandannas arent going to do shit and are actually do more harm than good.

There are prescribed methods for removing and disposing of your PPE.

One of the tests we had to do was in removing gloves. masks and goggles without cross contaminating. We put on the latex, then pushed our palms and finger into an ink pad. Then there was an ink roller we used for our n95 masks. We then had to remove our gloves and then masks and goggles and get them into a collection bag without getting any ink on ourselves or on the outside of any containment barriers.

Unless all 330 million of us are doing that level of contamination containment.... we aint protecting anybody.

Very impressive young man. Anyway, got a chuckle when -- at the end of the first segment -- Prager restates the name of the book and calls the author "Ben Crenshaw" (the famous old professional golfer).

[In his defense, Dennis admits he has just always had trouble with names -- and, hey, I do this myself on occasion now that I've turned 29 ...]

I need some advice.

Sunday is Easter and I really want to go have dinner with my parents. It would just be the three of us and possibly another couple. I'm not sick, no one there is sick, and we aren't overly concerned about it - granted there is SOME concern, but not a lot. Also, my birthday is Saturday.

Now, we've gone back and forth about it - them telling me don't come, they don't want me to get caught travelling (it's about a two-hour drive) - but this would be the first Easter in 22 years I didn't spend with them.

My mother told me it's up to me whether I go or not. I'm just not sure. I know the police will probably be watching for people travelling particularly on that day. On the other hand, I could make up any excuse, such as I'm taking my "homebound parents" some food, or whatnot.

Again, I know I guess I should be concerned about asymptomatic transmission, etc, but I've been meticulous about everything and have no symptoms (but I personally believe I already had the shit in February).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

123 Totally astounding article from the BBC -- I did not know ANY of this:

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52194018

This now reveals a huge truth about what's going on that NO ONE is talking about -- that int he USA the disease is primarily killing African-Americans, not whites.

I had also noticed that in NY, the epicenters of most deaths were in black and immigrant neighborhoods -- a fact not even really mentioned in this article, but very relevant to it. Adding up that fact and what is revealed here, the truth emerges that white areas in America are comparatively unscathed:

Coronavirus wreaks havoc in African American neighbourhoods

Stark statistics from Chicago health officials have underscored the heavy toll of coronavirus on black Americans.

Black Chicagoans account for half of all coronavirus cases in the city and more than 70% of deaths, despite making up 30% of the population.
Other cities with large black populations, including Detroit, Milwaukee, New Orleans and New York, have become coronavirus hotspots.

As of 5 April, 1,824 out of Chicago's 4,680 confirmed Covid-19 cases were black residents, said city officials on Monday.

That compared with 847 white, 478 Hispanic and 126 Asian Chicagoans.

Chicago has seen a total of 98 deaths as of Sunday, with 72% of them black residents.

The disparity is reflected across the state, where black people account for 41% of Covid-19 deaths, despite making up 14% of the population of Illinois.
Chicago public health commissioner Dr Allison Arwady told reporters that black city residents already lived on average about 8.8 years less than their white counterparts.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the coronavirus was "devastating black Chicago".

Though the coronavirus has been called the "great equalizer", data suggests that vulnerability to the infection may vary by neighbourhood.

In Michigan, African Americans make up 14% of the population, but they account for 33% of the coronavirus cases and 41% of deaths, figures from the state health department showed on Monday.

White residents account for about 23% of recorded cases in Michigan and 28% of deaths, according to the data.

Detroit, Michigan, is about 80% black, and the city together with its surrounding suburbs accounts for around 80% of confirmed coronavirus cases.
A similar disparity has emerged in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one of the most segregated cities in the US.

African Americans made up almost half of Milwaukee County's nearly 1,000 cases as of last Friday and 81% of its 27 deaths, despite black people accounting for 26% of the population there, according to a study by ProPublica.

Some 40% of Louisiana's coronavirus deaths have occurred in the New Orleans area, where the majority of residents are black.

Health officials have previously said the Big Easy's residents suffer from rates of obesity, diabetes and hypertension that are higher than the national average, making them more vulnerable to Covid-19.

Mayor Lightfoot said diabetes, heart disease and respiratory illness were "really prevalent" in black communities.

I read a short story very similar to this a year or two ago in which the Chinese secretly released a virus that was targeted to African genetics in order to wipe out the population of Africa to facilitate colonization. The virus would make other races sick but was lethal to those with significant African genetics. Wish I could remember the name of the story.

What the F is "evidence of violence about to occur" and how is that different than any other version of pre-emptive, unconstitutional intervention?

That's the whole point, Dan. In our system there isn't any provision for acting in advance of laws being broken (disrupting criminal activity known to be in the planning stage is covered by conspiracy law).

A guy running at someone with a knife is already committing various crimes, brandishing a firearm, same-same. Short of that - or making threats, also a crime - how exactly does law enforcement police misuse of a firearm in advance?

When you've lost the ACLU on a gun-grabbing gambit, it's time to reassess.

319 Here's a control group. Walmart store workers. There must be at least a million of them, because their employee count in the U.S. is 1.5 million.

And to that million we can add in the two or three hundred thousand of shelf-stockers that are in Walmarts every day that work for beer distributors, candy distributors, etc. Everybody knows Walmart makes a lot of their vendors stock their own shelf-space in the stores.

I want to know how many of those 1.2 million workers, none of which have had any interruption in their work schedules, have come down with Wuhan.

And how many have died.

Because these store workers are in a work environment that is far more dangerous, virus-exposure-wise, than the typical white collar work environment.

Can you go for the visit, but maintain a distance? Maybe set up chairs in the driveway or in the backyard? A friend of mine is immuno-compromised and her parents visit by setting lawn chairs in the driveway at a distance from hers and her family. No hugs and kisses, but at least they are together.

350 Yes - hawt chicks in masks works.

Second, something I posted a while back:

280 Here is the thing on Fauci - he is an expert in his field - and his concern is his field. He readily admits that.

A long time ago I worked on a project with a bunch (about 30) of nuclear physicists and literal rocket scientists. I was none of those, I was just an engineer with product knowledge. They were really VERY smart.

But they could not get a thing done. Because they were all hyperfocused on their specialty.

It took me as a generalist who was 25 years their junior to get them moving forward. To listen to the metallurgist who kept insisting you need to make sure about X. To listen to the rocket scientist that said you need to be very careful about Y. And the physicist that insisted Z was most important.

Got it. Still had to complete the project.

People who have never actually worked with "experts" think that experts ought to be in charge.

No. Just no.

People used to being in charge should be in charge.

363 People seriously overestimate the amount of commitment career military people have to individual freedom.

The military system does not run on the individual, it runs on the unit and the force in total. Two objectives: Mission accomplishment, then troop welfare, in that order.

Have you ever read an old school FM for unmasking after an NBC attack? The first step is "Pick one man and take his weapon away."

Military forces train and fight as a group, commanded from the top, with on scene commanders taking initiative as necessary. They don't like people who go all Free To Be You And Me and start trying to upend things or go against the grain. Decisions come from the top down, not the other way around.

You're missing the real takeaway from your observation. And that is, whoever staffs the government has the real power, not who wins elections. It's not that the government has to work against the people, it's that a permanent government staffed with your political enemies isn't going to interpret laws in your favor.

410 From a ZeroHedge article, recent tweets from Michael Burry, the doctor-turned-hedge-fund-manager and subject of "The Big Short" --

COVID-19 policy cannot be settled by CYA politicians career ID docs. Too much hammer/nail and too little common sense.

POTUS must reflect the interests of the working class and small business here - the economy cannot crash 30% to save the 0.2%.

Set America Free!

If COVID-19 testing were universal, the fatality rate would be less than 0.2%.

This is no justication for sweeping government policies, lacking any and all nuance, that destroy the lives, jobs, and businesses of the other 99.8%.

And vain.
On the three occasions I attended at which she was supposed to be present, one didn't have tv cameras. She only attended two. You know which ones.

I don't know why she thinks her verbal vomit is worth hearing by anyone. But then I don't know why she keeps getting elected. Her district is economically EXACTLY the way you think it is.

Even HEPA filters (all filters) get full. Then it's one particle/virus in and one trapped particle/virus out.

Sure,
just look at the inside of your vacuum cleaner when you change the bag.
The question is, how long does that take? Some people seem to be under
the impression that you can make one mask and use it indefinitely.

That is why you have prefilters that are cheap before a HEPA expensive one. Replace the prefilters often and the HEPA less often.
Also why HEPA filters are at least 12 inches in the direction of airflow.

425 From the last thread:

342 Most banks were sued by obama admin for "bad mortgages" , aka extortion. People took out mortgages they could not afford. Many financial institutions were pressured by the govt to lend money, give out credit and at the same time ignore sound lending practices for the sake of diversity quotas. Then govt came after these banks for giving out mortgages and ignoring sound lending practices. Something is wrong with that formula.
Posted by: runner at April 07, 2020 11:58 AM (zr5Kq)

It all goes way back to the anti-semite, Jimmah Cawtah and his community redevelopment act. The notion was that government could make housing affordable for everyone which morphed into everyone had a right to affordable housing, then to everyone deserved affordable housing that someone else had to pay for. It was the Clintons who started the big pressure on the banks to relax their lending protocols because: reasons. Then the threat was: If you don't lend to these "oppressed, redlined people" we will climb up your ass with a microscope and find "infractions" and fine you out of existence. Those loans wound up being bundled and sold as "collateralized loans;" then came another hyperleverage instrument to market those securities It was call something margin insurance. People were taking loans stating it would be primary residence, who were actually speculating trying to ride the housing market up. Many people made money flipping the houses until the bubble popped; then the leverage worked the other way. Same thing happened during the tulip bulb bubble around 1900, then again in the lead up to the stock market crash of 1929, then again in the market meltdown of marine equipment in the early 1980s.
The same problems happen for the same reasons: cheap money financed by "someone else" usually with a do gooder government pushing a scheme (the players of which become hyper rich) and the greedy sheep fall in line for the slaughter. In retrospect, the Rona bringing the stock market back down to reasonable levels, could have wound up averting a much bigger disaster.

431 BTW, most people don't know how to use PPE, or what the purpose is. Most of those masks are to protect other people from YOU.

I figured that was the case. But I pretty much only go out to visit the grocery store of the drug store, and I reason that the people who are working there have to deal with LOTS of people all day long. So my wearing a mask might reduce THEIR anxiety a little bit. We don't need them burning out because the job is too nerve-racking. Cashiers keeping the food supply going are essential workers, to my mind.

435 Well, I'm surprised I didn't show up in these photos..... My wife made some masks out of linen towels. There is some air leakage around the sides of my somewhat large shnozzola, which fogs my glasses a bit. I rolled up some kleenex and put it under the mask on each side, along my nose and down the sides of the mask to force all the "exhaust" downward. I then rolled out for the 0700 geezer hour at the local supermarket. When I got back in the car, there in the rearview mirror I could see the kleenex had worked loose and was sticking straight out each side, like the horns of some demonic video game character. Now I know why I was getting strange looks.

I think I'll just move my glasses forward a bit. There's plenty of nose out there to hold them...
