Republican Senator Rick Scott of Florida: We Need Congressional Investigations Into Why the WHO -- Which the US is Funding -- Is Acting as a Pass-Through For Propaganda Written by the Communist Chinese Intelligence Services

Yes and after that: Investigate what the "American" media is so eager to propagate Chinese intelligence service propaganda as well.

Sen. Rick Scott on Tuesday called for a congressional investigation into the World Health Organization, suggesting the U.S. should cut off its funding for "helping Communist China cover up" the full extent of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Florida Republican, a noted China hawk, has long raised concerns about the WHO’s relationship with Beijing, which has undercounted the number of coronavirus cases in the country.
...
"We know Communist China is lying about how many cases and deaths they have, what they knew and when they knew it -- and the WHO never bothered to investigate further,” Scott added. "Their inaction cost lives."
He said the WHO "willfully parroted propaganda" from China’s Communist Party, and he called for hearings and a full investigation when Congress returns to Washington next month.

Among the lies the WHO has pushed for their Chinese Communist patrons: That the coronavirus could only be transmitted from animal (bat) to human, not from human to human, so there was no need to limit travel to and from China.

In fact, Communist China already knew the virus could pass with epidemic speed from human to human.

In fact, the Chinese government knew at that point to could be transmitted between humans and they had hundreds of cases even though they were reporting only 41 officially on Jan. 11, according to the South China Morning Post. Chinese doctors and labs had identified the virus at least by December and there are now reports that there may even have been cases in November.
But China tried to shut down the information from getting out.
From NY Post:

Chinese labs ID'd the new virus in December, but the regime ordered them to stop testing and quietly destroy their samples. Officials even squelched health care workers, like the late Dr. Li Wenliang, who tried to warn colleagues of the coming epidemic.
Li and others knew in December the virus was spreading through human contact. But the government publicly denied it until Jan. 20.

What is WHO's answer? They won't respond.

Are they merely China's dupes, or are they China's coconspirators? I think they won't answer either way because they don't even want to admit their patron lied in the first place.

One of China's propaganda pushes is to claim that the country does not need to change its food and health practices, despite the fact that one new plague after another keeps coming out of the country.

They just don't want to change -- and so any suggestion that they should is, of course... racist!

After countless infections and death, the obliteration of trillions of dollars and the radical retooling of modern life as we know it, the least China could do is introduce higher food safety regulations, eradicate all wet markets and ban the wildlife trade, once and for all.

The Center for Security Policy is updating its timeline of China's aggressive propaganda efforts.

60 Minutes did a great piece on China's active efforts to propagandize and propagate their plague.

Wait, did I say 60 Minutes? Major error on my part -- the American media is in bed with China and would never dare report on China's misbehavior.

60 Minutes Australia also did this tough report on China's 'Wet markets," which is likely the source of these frequent new plagues.

2) x-year shuttering of all federal agencies (except the DoD and postal service.

I am not convinced that this was deliberate. Regardless of whether it was deliberate or accidental, though, China does need to be dealt with. I hope that this does happen (won't happen no matter what without a second Trump administration, though even with that it might not), but it will happen after our economy gets moving again. Aside from glassing Beijing - which is probably not a good approach - there is little we can do right now. As we start to come out of it, though, there is a *lot* we can do and I hope we do it.

- Restrict immigration from China by 100%. Any Chinese person who wants to move here requires individual congressional sponsorship - like getting into a military academy.

- Cancel all visas issued to Chinese nationals and repatriate them.

And richest of all, they (UNHCR the worst) have some jaw-dropping anti-American attitudes on the part of their *European* personnel (Third Worlders generally quite good and pro-US).

It's quite the experience to travel to Geneva specifically to meet with a UNHCR official - carrying with you, literally, an instrument for $millions in aid for a critical refugee program then under way - and have the French guy stand you up for the meeting. Really happened.

There are layers here. The specialized agencies doing the real work tend to be pretty good, US-dominated, and in many cases do outstanding work (as do the NGOs they use as implementing partners).

Further you move up the chain, the more the picture becomes the nightmare of corruption and anti-Americanism many here are familiar with.

Check to see if Samsung is still using built in cameras to who watches what show and for listening to TV room conversations (and transcribing them for advertisers). The company promised to stop, when settling a lawsuit on the subject.

I bought an LG for that reason and also because of the OS the TV uses, but I can't completely vouch for it's corporate integrity either.

We could actually pay China and everyone else off quite easily - the Fed prints up a piece of paper that says "This piece of paper is worth $1 Trillion Dollars, Signed The Fed" and then we hand it to China and say "see you've been paid!" Now there are long term consequences to doing that to our bondholders, as in it will be a long time before they ever loan us any money again - but it's always an option.

Could a corporation do that? No, of course not. A corporation is a legal construct that exists only on paper.

"HOW COME FEDERAL EMPLOYEES DON'T HAVE TO PAY TAXES???" would be shouted from the rooftops by people who have not thought this through. Proposing it would be political suicide.

There's also a practical reason. If they have other sources of income, those might bump them into a higher tax bracket that would throw off the calculation.

Anything that Samsung makes that involves moving parts of any kind, has the "fail" built-in at the factory.

In an LG fridge, the ice-augur that moves the cubes to the dispenser, has metal parts where it counts most, specifically in the drive gears. Samsung uses plastic there, and it's a cheap, brittle sort in the bargain.

If they had used a GFRP, such as in a polymer pistol frame, they'd have been OK. But no. They insist on their parts being a pretty, semi-transparent blue-hued showpiece, with the half-life of a moth on meth.

And for Samsung, FORGET about finding replacement parts. They amend the "Model Number" by an odd digit or letter, SEVERAL times through each production run.

Result? The MQ-21972-c fridge uses an entirely different circuit board than the MQ-21972-f, even though they're visually and functionally identical.

Appliance Repair guys HATE the Samsung line, and with good reason.

Given that elective procedures are cancelled, people who might normally go to the ER for something non-life threatening (e.g. people who use it as primary care), or the walk-in clinics, the emptiness makes sense. They have been emptied/are avoided in preparation to react to a fast influx of sick people.

I remember doing research on both and felt that Samsung is better. LG always seemed full of bells and whistles no one needs. To me that means more parts that fail. I've owned Samsung TVs and found them satisfactory, no failures after warranty expired

There's also a practical reason. If they have other sources of income, those might bump them into a higher tax bracket that would throw off the calculation.

Yes. That being said, when on fiat currency, determining where money 'comes' from is sort of moot. Only on a fixed supply does it matter. The rest is just making sure people don't bid things up when they have more money.

The key to understanding why government employees still count as taxpayers is that what governments care about is GDP which is just money moving. If you can pay someone to spend money, and you can print that money (and you can prevent people from bidding up) you can raise GDP. Indeed, paying people to spend money also raises the taxes you take in, and when you're printing the money, it all is coming from the government anyway.

So most businesses, in the strictest sense, probably aren't full taxpayers either. Recessions used to be called 'a shortage of money' i.e. people lacked money to buy things. With fiat currency, you can't run out of money (well, not totally true.)

The question about taxes is really what is being produced? From this standpoint, it's both certain that not all businesses really are productive and not all government employees are non-productive. Tax just acts as a way to manage the flow of money into a government body regardless of the source.

The problem arises where you're using taxes to fund too much and the math stops working (i.e. spend 40k on gov't employee, only get back 10k, repeat...); money printer then go brrrrrrrrrr.

Depends on the price elasticity of the product.

If Im CEO of company A and my target margin is X.... and all of a sudden I dont have to pay a 20% tax rate.... guess where my prices go to capture business from my competitors..... down 20% to my target margin of X.

Conversely.... if my tax rate goes up 5% ..... I build that into my COGS (cost of goods sold) and pass that on to my customer. I do this in real life now. Im not paying taxes, licensing fee, fuel surcharges, permit fees, ongoing ed fees..... all that get rolled into my overhead and YOU pay it.

If the whole market gets hit with a cost bump, the customer just takes it on the chin. There may be a slight dip in buying immediately, but it will likely reset itself to the previous rates and the customer foots the bill.

As the biz guys kept telling me, there's no reason you shouldn't be raising your prices. Demand can be driven by price, rather than chasing it.

I would second this. Use a Roku or a Firestick and skip the built in apps. All of the smart features use the TV's processor and will slow everything down. We have a 10 year old Samsung dumb TV that is still rocking and rolling with a Firestick for connectivity and still has an outstanding picture. We also have a Roku TV that bogs down regularly to the point that we are about to plug a separate Roku box into it. Next TV I get will probably be another dumb one.

Because they'd be out of line with their competitors and would lose sales as a consequence. They set their prices by what is in essence a Lagrange multiplier approach: maximizing profits subject to some constraints.

If their taxes are raised, the constraints have changed, both for the company but also for all of their competitors.

And turn it around: if a company could just absorb increased taxes, then why wouldn't the government just keep raising their taxes? Eventually, either the company would have to raises prices, or go under.

Bought the 42" Samsung here back in '07.

So, I'll concede that my opinion 'bout 'em is that much out of date.

That said, this one still runs fine in every respect. Full 1080p, sharp, good color rendering, does everything it's supposed to do.

Observation: Nearly 100% of those huge, cheap TVs at Wal Mart are brands most of us have never seen or known before. Damn few known and trusted names on their offerings.

For all their faults, Best Buy is still a fairly good TV farm. Wide array of products, and their staff gets some good training as to what's different between 'em, what's "Good/Better/Best" in the lineup, etc.

Oddly, being in the same corporate family as Wal-Mart, Sam's Club carries a pretty good range of reputable, brand name TVs. Pity though, no one that works there knows a damn thing about any of 'em. LOL

Yep, and therein lies the problem. When the government allocates resources, that allocation is not a strictly economic decision any more, but also a political one. In fact, largely a political one.

Which is why such allocations generally fail dismally. Why do "green" or "socially responsible" mutual funds perform badly? Because their investments are not predicated solely on economic bases, but rather on ideological ones as well, which necessarily degrades the quality of the decision-making. Why? Because if the investment were economically sound, the ideological consideration would be superfluous.

Well I wasn't trying to give a history lesson. I think the big time stadium rock bands were more of an anti-influence.

As for Minutemen, nobody knows who they are/were.

I did manage to see Firehose live, which was nice. The guy they got to sing for them, he was... earnest. Not sure what else to say about him. He was no D. Boon.

I see a problem right there.

Corporations lobby to lower their taxes because they know they wouldn't have to lower their prices, as consumers are accustomed to paying $X for their product. So lower taxes would mean higher profit margins.

I don't think corporations are heroes by any means. They're tax collectors for the government. That's all.

Consider the entire transaction chain: consumer pays for product (covering all of company's cost of goods, including taxes), corporation pays taxes to government.

So eliminating the middle man - who collects $X in taxes and then pays $X to the government - consumers are paying taxes to the government. If you write a check to the IRS, does the IRS agent get the money? No. He's the middle man. The government gets the money. You pay, the government gets the cash.

yes, and I'm sure, maybe months before that, Trump iirc, was pushing being prepared for emergencies, or disruptions. Which seemed like sound advice, but many wondered why he was pushing it at that time.
