The Morning Report - 3/25/20

floozflop.jpg

Good morning, kids. Wednesday and the breaking news is that evidently Cuck Schemer and Malig-Nancy Pelosi have caved and are going to support a $2 Trillion relief package crafted in the Senate late last night. I will assume some pork is in there but at least it's not the whole Leftist hog. The Dow already posted a 2,113-point gain, the highest single day gain since 1933 and hopefully this good news (despite no one knowing where the money is going to come from; tick-tock debt clock) will also engender another positive gain on Wall Street. Surely, the President's remarks that he wants to see the economy moving again by Easter may also give everyone a much needed boost of confidence, except of course the g-dless heathens in the Democrat-Media Complex who, like plague, thrive on misery, suffering and death itself.

From a medical standpoint, despite the real deaths here and especially abroad, the propagandists are constantly pumping out fear headlines about rates of infection and celebrities or young people contracting the Chinese rot. What they do not tell us are actual fatality rates as well as the survival rate associated with this particular strain. And although we are seeing more cases, as a result of more testing, and a rising number of deaths, in a population of 315 million there are still only about 400 deaths. It would be useful to have accurate data from the source, that is Communist China, but that of course is a non-starter. In any case, back here in the US we're not even looking at whether the aforementioned were the primary cause of death or some other underlying health condition that contracting the virus exacerbated. Plus, despite the outliers of a few cases of younger people being victims, the vast majority are the elderly and those with compromised respiratory function. In other words, the typical victims of common flu and other viruses which kill tens of thousands every year without denuding the forests of trees to make toilet paper or bringing the American economy to a grinding halt.

Again, I reference you to a couple of positive links from actual scientists including one showing that this virus does not mutate readily, and another from an Oxford epidemiologist stating that the doomsday model of Chi-Com Gleet killing millions is way off base. Elsewhere, VP Pence says that the very promising malaria pill is being readied for shipment to the hotspots of NY, CA and WA, but Democrat governor Steve Sisolak is evidently a science denier and is refusing to allow chloroquinine to be used by Nevadans.

Also, the talk about flattening the curve has one problem; given that we don't really know when the pandemic started, it's not really possible to predict when that curve will bend. Still, given everything he has to go on from his team and from a bureaucracy that has proven itself to be inept, politicized and more than likely populated with Obama holdovers, the President is making the right moves to allay the public fears, cut red tape to get resources in place and give a glimmer of hope that we should be out of the woods on this in order to get back to normal as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Naturally, he is being ripped to shreds from the usual quarters for trying to give a glimmer of hope to the nation. All things considered, I think this crisis - which I still believe is more than 50% manufactured for political gain by the Left - has done more to burnish his credentials as one of our greatest presidents than even his policy successes, which are not inconsiderable either. What I also think is heartening are what his poll numbers show, or more precisely what they don't show. Even in this perhaps irreconcilably divided nation, if you look past the way-over-amplified bilge from the agitprop media and elsewhere in self-anointed elite circles, Donald Trump has proven himself to be a uniter. I think this episode will propel him to victory in November and more crucially have a far deeper positive effect on the nation long afterwards. Cockeyed optimist? Maybe. But I still am grateful to G-d that he is in the Oval Office, now more than ever.

NOTE: The opinions expressed in some links may or may not reflect my own. I include them because of their relevance to the discussion of a particular issue.

THIS.

Look who are his biggest fans recently: Newsom and Cuomo.

Both those guys have gone out of their way to trash and defy Trump since e was elected (and trashed him as soon as he announced his run). Now, your average petty, thin-skinned politician would have relished the opportunity to use this pandemic to give it back to them good an hard. He could be rubbing their noses in all the bad decisions they have made that helped get them into their current situation, but he isn't. He also isn't making them beg for resources. The only time trump pushes back is when *they* try to blame Trump for mot having adequate supplies on hand (Cuomo) or demand he do their job for them (de Blasio).

Why is Trump doing this? Think, think, think. . .
Maybe because as he's always said: he is the president of all Americans, cares about the well-being of them over scoring political point and getting revenge on political foes. What a concept!

34
I was just reading that Oxford paper. Their argument is basically that we are at the peak of the WuFlu curve, not the initial stages.

There are a number of arguments against that. The only way to know is truly random antibody testing to determine just what percentage of the population is infected or recovered and immune.

While tests in NY indicate that about 20%+ of the population is infected, and maybe 7% in other part of the country, those tests are not random sampling, but those who warrant a test.

Me, I'm thinking we're not near the peak, but there's no proof we're not. Only time will tell that.

39 This is not good news.

Patient Infected With Two Strains of COVID-19 In Iceland

It's been confirmed that an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 in Iceland has been infected by two strains of the virus simultaneously. The second strain is a mutation of the original novel coronavirus. It is thought that this could be the first recorded dual infection case of this kind.

Speaking to RUV news yesterday, deCODE CEO, Kari Stefansson confirmed the unusual infection. It is thought the mutated second strain could be more malicious or infectious because people infected by the dual-strain patient were only found to have the second strain. If this is the case, the virus could be mutating to become more infectious over time. However, Kari was unable to confirm this and suggested it could be a coincidence.

Kari also noted that the mutation found in the sample taken from this dually-infected patient is one that has not been found outside Iceland, according to international databases.

maybe it will stay there, but this might also be why some scientists are stating that China might have a second wave

I was just reading about this yesterday. Apparently, a month or so ago, there was thought to be a second strain, a more deadly strain, of the virus out there as well.

Maybe this is the reason for the over-abundance of caution. Not for the flu-like first strain, but because of the danger of the second strain?

Oh, definitely. I also expect that once things get back to normal, Trump will be hammering them again, and they will be trashing him.

Trump's leadership during this crisis, though, has been a huge contrast to how pretty much every other politician would have handled it. People - non-TDS deranged people - have got to be noticing this. Trump had Newsom and Cuomo right where he'd want them but didn't strike. Compare that to Pelosi, Schumer, et al.

Good post. These same people probably would have died from any ordinary flu, or catching pneumonia, etc.

The only thing different, they claim, is that it is highly contagious. If you have it, you can transfer it to 3 people, or whatever they are claiming now.

That is why senior homes are getting wiped out. I wonder what the figures are for this from the normal flu, which historically has killed so many more.

We are nowhere close to regular flu deaths.

113 Murphy's assault on The Second Amendment in NJ is perhaps the most egregious subversion our country has ever seen.

Times of national crisis are one of the primary reasons The Framers established the Second Amendment. To suspend The Bill of Rights is not within his powers as governor, and was never meant to be.

He has also exposed the Achilles heal in our Second Amendment rights. Cutting off the ability to perform a NICS check essentially denies people their fundamental constitutional rights. Congress should immediately pass legislation if the NICS system is not available or is deliberately suspended in time of crisis an FFL can sell to anyone who has previously passed a check or holds a carry license.

Her parents say the town is using the local ice rink to store bodies, and then she told my wife in a cocktail hour conference call among the neighbors. I laughed watching him squirm on Ingraham Angle last night. Laura straight out asked him if he were ill and could take the drug combo that Trump touted, and he would not say yes. He kept repeating that he would do research to see what was tested, and approved or some crap.

Yeah, dying in the hospital and he would be doing research. BS. He would take it in a heartbeat. He just wouldn't say it. He is the only one I have seen who continues to defy it. I get that he is being careful and to not tell people that this is the magic pill. They are also testing plasma infusions from those that recover or w/e, but man. He looked like an idiot last night.

179 As some know, I've been pushing a plan that establishes a quasi-governmental agency that would sell off assets of the country over a 100 year period to advance 50 trillion to basically "reset" not only the government, but every person in the country.

One thing I didn't mention...

There is a time limit on this idea. No other country can do this, because they aren't the world's currency. Trillions of dollars are held not only by governments across the globe, but by companies and individuals in just about every country. All of these entities and people have a stake in keeping the U.S. strong and stable.

If the U.S. comes out of this pandemic weak, falling into a depression, it would be fairly easy for China to supplant the U.S. as the dominant economy and have the Yuan replace the dollar on foreign markets.

The U.S. has a one-time chance to cement our economy as the world's standard and propel the country into the next level for the coming century. All this by using dormant assets built up over hundreds of years.

Sure, it sounds pie-in-the-sky, but there's no reason why it wouldn't work. We have the ability to value the assets at a level that works for us. The country should take the opportunity while it exists.

180 Hey Horde, your man in Hong Kong Publius Redux here, checking in now that the rest of the world is entering the "several-weeks-in" phase of the unnecessary global freak-out that is the Chinese Corona-virus, or Wuhan Virus. I can say, most definitively, that we have learned a great deal of lessons regarding this flu-like pandemic and they are as follows:

1. China is evil. For decades upon decades it has forgone doing the things that a modern civilized society /government should do such as ensuring public sanitation, a sanitary food supply chain and an eradication of activities that are high risk and patently unacceptable social behaviors (eating bats and exotic animals such as pangolins and having them in live markets next to green groceries and other butchered meats and fish for starters). It has purposefully done this because it has been laser-like focused on one thing, and one thing only: projecting its economic power throughout the globe in order to achieve global geo-political power. Trying to hide and downplay the outbreak that their disgusting sanitary and personal hygiene habits, and government policy, created, more than any other thing, is what allowed this to become a pandemic.

2. Because of the above, China will more likely than not continue to be the biggest breeding ground for new viral outbreaks and it should be treated as such and isolated as much as possible

3. Having supply chains that reach into China, or exporting entire industries and heavy manufacturing to China is potentially lethal to the world's and, most particularly, the USA's economic and political health, and those of its corporations. It needs to stop and be reversed. A policy of common sense low taxes for corporations, streamlined regulatory approvals, low income taxes (state and Fed) and a throttling back on big labor unions in order to promote the repatriation of all manufacturing and suppliers of raw materials back to North America, should be instituted immediately

4. Air travel bans should weapons of choice numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 - all the way through 10 in the arsenal of ways to fight the spread of viruses. Had an immediate and widespread air travel ban on China been instituted (including bans for travel from China through third party countries - such as wasn't done in Italy for instance) along with isolation of anyone who recently came from China in the month proceeding the ban, this virus would have been stopped almost in its tracks. the US bought itself some time by doing a ban - but other countries did not follow suit and, hence, the virus literally traveled the globe in just a few short weeks. Borders, as well, "work" to prevent the spread of pandemics. Also an immediate air travel ban would have isolated the economic fallout to one industry - air travel, which then could have been targeted with a much smaller, focused bailout than is now necessary. Who would really have been inconvenienced except the airlines and their employees and international air travelers. And of the two, the travelers could just travel later and the air industry could be compensated. So really it is the best solution.

5. A complete shut down of the world's economy, hunkering down and behaving like this is the Zombie Apocalypse (TM) is, entirely unnecessary. Hong Kong did not do it. All that is needed is common sense regulations: (a) Wear masks on subways and buses and enclosed spaces with crowds. (b) Wash your hands often; (c) If you are sick, stay home; (d) observe strict epidemic/ID protocols with the elderly and geriatric facilities, as well as for other at risk patient groups. Easy peasey Japanese-ey.

6. The press is, simply put, disgusting and is also evil, and has purposefully stoked the fires of hysteria in a coordinated effort both to provide cover for their Chinese corporate owner overlords and to attempt to "hurt" Trump whom they hate by attempting to destroy the entire world's economy.

7. The virus, although deadlier than the flu in certain respects, for the elderly and the at risk populations, is not really that different than the flu, statistically speaking and in outcome - altogether it appears slightly more infectious. However, as a flu-type virus, it will, as Trump pointed out, subside in the warmer months and likely disappear altogether (or be subject to vaccination). When bodies do not pile up, as the MSM gleefully is talking up (see # 6 above), there will be hell to pay, and that hell will come in the form of a very, very pissed off populace (outside liberal enclaves inside big city liberal bastions, of course). Look for normal Americans to be actually roasting CNN reporters on spits at annual 4th of July barbecues this year - post "virus Apocalypse Hoax" (no not meaning that the virus doesn't exist - meaning that hyping it up like the plague is a full bore hoax fueled by Nos. 1 and 6 above).

8. Democrats are evil and even low information voters are catching on. When Nancy Pelosi swooped in to try and take the relief/stimulus bill hostage - with all her little, liberal wish list SJW items - she must have really thought that this was not the case. However, even internal pro-Dem polling must have put the fear of God into her and Schumer as hey did an immediate about-face. This speaks volumes. They know the jig is up and that, as such, they will try and circle the wagons, hope that the outbreak kills hundreds of thousand and that the economy tanks, like the evil ghouls that they are, because it is their only "hope" at derailing Trump. If bodies don't materialize I think they understand that they will be roasting on those spits with the MSM folks on July 4th, and rightly so. I really do think it's going to be "pitchfork and torch carrying mob" time.

9. Those concern trolls, or truly worried, people who though "oh my God, look at how China is approaching this - they must know something we don't - time to panic!" No, the Chinese don't know anything we don't. They have a society which honors the elderly and it was painfully obvious, immediately, that this virus kills the elderly, particularly if you don't have any respirators and a "for shit" communist health care system. Had the Chicoms not stopped the virus, and it killed a huge percentage of their parents and grandparents, it would have been the end for the Chicoms and they knew it. Hence, draconian panic measures taken.

10. lastly, all those who are spending time in our society trying to say "it's racist" to call the Chinese virus the Chinese virus", including some of our own "concern trolls", are retarded as f*ck. First off - see lesson number 1 above. And always call it the Chinese Virus, as Trump is doing, so people do not forget who the real threat is on our planet. Secondly, no one cares if you call it Chinese virus but liberal wankers and so if you are saying "it's problematic" to call it that - then you are one, and therefore are part of the problem (see lessons 5, 6 and 8 above).

Anyway, I wish I could say you don't have several more weeks of freak-out ahead but you do. Already been there and done that here in HK. However, Italy's numbers are finally dropping and we will see the same statistical picture in the US shortly. Have faith.

Sorry for the long post but had to vent. Keep the faith fellow hordlings and remember the main lessons: China evil, travel bans and borders work, plus Democrats and MSM are evil too. All these things work in Trump's favor in the fall. Bigly.

Oh and tell all your liberal friends: "Trump 2020! Because, f*ck you, too!"

Cuomo says he needs all 20,000 ventilators the Feds have in reserve, NOW, or Armageddon!!!!

Hmmm...one thing Cuomo did not say in his screed yesterday is that NY is out of ventilators, now, or will be tomorrow. The Feds are sending him 4,000 of the 20,000, today. Perhaps the CDC docs are wise enough to see that NYC residents need to become a bit afraid, to stop them from spreading the bug. Cuomo's pleas for social distancing to save Grandma have not stopped his state's citizens from going out and spreading the bug.

Why should New Yorkers be saved instead of citizens of any other state, when they are not doing what's asked of them? And the CDC docs and FEMA logistics experts can look at data and make predictions, too, Andrew. Perhaps they don't see the need to give up all they have, today, to NY, to save lives there tomorrow.

behaving like this is the Zombie Apocalypse (TM) is, entirely
unnecessary. Hong Kong did not do it. All that is needed is common sense
regulations: (a) Wear masks on subways and buses and enclosed spaces
with crowds. (b) Wash your hands often; (c) If you are sick, stay home;
(d) observe strict epidemic/ID protocols with the elderly and geriatric
facilities, as well as for other at risk patient groups. Easy peasey
Japanese-ey.

240 Elon Musk acquires 1,255 ventilators for Los Angeles amid coronavirus crisis

Elon Musk, who has downplayed the coronavirus pandemic on Twitter, nonetheless delivered on his promise to provide much-needed ventilators during the crisis.

The SpaceX and Tesla chief acquired 1,255 ventilators from China and had them delivered to Los Angeles.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom hailed the effort in a press conference on Monday, saying, "I told you a few days ago [Musk] was likely to have 1,000 ventilators this week," according to Bloomberg. "They arrived in Los Angeles and Elon Musk is already working with the hospital association and others to get those ventilators out in real time. It's a heroic effort."

The government "owns" nearly 100 trillion in assets. Millions of acres of land, mineral rights, fishing rights, bandwidth, offshore drilling rights, technology, water rights, etc. We can't sell these now because there simply isn't that much money in the world and prices wouldn't be fair in a "fire sale". In order to sell or lease these properties at a fair price, it would take in the area of 100 years.

However, we need money now. So a new semi-government agency would be established to dispose of the assets over 100 years, but be allowed to advance half the value (about 48 trillion) immediately. This would provide money backed by hard assets instead of just printing money.

The money would be used to:
Pay off the national debt
Pay off all private mortgages
Pay off all student debt
Pay off all credit card debt
Pay off all consumer loans
Rebuild the entire infrastructure of the country (roads, bridges, sewer, water) to a high level
Build 500 300Mw identical reactors to provide free power to local grids
Give seniors the option to either stay with Social Security or take a buyout.

Plus a few other things.

Something for everyone and a complete reset for everyone in the country.

Despite an unemployment jump from 3% to possible 20% in a single month, his approval numbers have either stayed steady or actually gone up.

Despite constant lies and distortions from basically every media channel on television, his approval numbers for handling the virus are incredible. 95% with Republicans 60% with independents, 15% with Democrats.

Finally, look to how the Dems are handling the Senate telief package. Nancy tries to play hardball but folded like a cheap pantsuit not 24 hours later. Schumer was already folded. They have access to poll numbers we dont see. They know where the winds are blowing. They're not giving up this fight becuase they love America, but becuase they love winning elections.

They gave this up, which tells me right now they're losing.

269 Each governor and the legislators are responsible for the citizens of their state. That's why we have a federalist republic and people like the governor and the New York legislative bodies exist. What Cuomo has done for most of his tenure, and especially this present term is to pursue a political agenda to the detriment of a minority in the state- a tyranny of a majority if you will. He has gleefully, along with the legislature, trampled over his detractors to provide rampant abortion, use taxpayer money and the AG to poltically attck the president, install a permanent Democrat majority with gerrymandering, destroy the private healthcare system, raise taxes and fees, promote illegal aliens over the citizenry and generally pursue a destructive political agenda. These were his priorities and those of his party who completely control the legislature- to pursue politics over the well being of the people. He owns it, just like he owns a state with the highest taxes in the country, and for which he has done zero to provide relief.

So, you'll forgive me if I am tired of hearing about Saint Cuomo. In retrospect, it's more like Il Duce Cuomo who has been trampling the citizens for years and relishing that victory. Meanwhile, when a crisis comes and HE'S not prepared, it's the federal governments fault. Sure.

*makes jerking motion with hand*

By the way, those people in NYC who largely control the NY legislature and voted for Cuomo, suck it.* Here in the suburbs, WDGAF.

I know yesterday they posted they were open but allowing 1 at a time inside the store, and is most likely their procedure since last week when they had a line of 50 people out the door.

If there is ever a Republican majority in Congress, that needs to be outlawed at the Federal level. We saw last election how this works - in any close election where a non-democrat wins, the day after counting is done enough Democrat ballots show up to get their candidate to 51%. It makes running for elections pure nonsense, the game is fixed from the start. And they don't have to risk doing it in a huge way, because they wait until they know exactly how many votes they need before they start printing them up.

This new agency would have a virtual "title" to all of the excess assets, with undeniable value. It would issue a bond to the treasury basically advancing 50% of the value of the assets backed by the underlying value.

I doubt any sale or lease would occur within the first 20 years or so, with any deal having to be approved by the three senior administrators of the agency.

330 CO is indeed a blue state. I oppose the death penalty, though for a very different reason than the Dems. They tend to oppose the death penalty because they think it is unjustified or immoral. I do not. I think that there are offenses for which death is reasonable punishment. Death is retributive justice, but there are crimes serious enough to justify it.

I oppose the death penalty, though, because I do not trust the judicial system at any level. A system that plays fast and loose with the rules, that engages in political prosecutions, where prosecutors behave nearly arbitrarily - in other words, a corrupt system - is not one that I favor having the ability to dictate the outcome in cold-blooded, life-or-death questions for individual citizens. The system itself is so untrustworthy, that I want the power to sentence people to death removed. You can't get back the time you spend locked up in a cell if you were corruptly, incompetently or wrongly prosecuted and convicted - but you can at least be released back to what's left of your life.

He also talked about some "blackout period" of 10 days, which starts right after Trump's 15-day period. And then that ends on Good Friday. And then Trump talks about getting things back to normal by Easter.

It pissed me off that freedoms default to "closed" when the
government that makes the rules can't honor their part of the agreement.

Wasn't me, but I live here in Wake County. Sheriff Baker is a real anti-2A piece of shit. He's the one that shut down the county range as was mentioned a few Gun Threads ago, too. I can't believe he got elected, and am looking forward to seeing him booted in 2022 (maybe wishful thinking).

384 I oppose the death penalty, though, because I do not trust the judicial system at any level. A system that plays fast and loose with the rules, that engages in political prosecutions, where prosecutors behave nearly arbitrarily - in other words, a corrupt system - is not one that I favor having the ability to dictate the outcome in cold-blooded, life-or-death questions for individual citizens."

I understand that view, and can even agree for most murders. But what about those cases where there is absolutely no doubt about what happened, because the murderer is still laughing and bragging about what he did? Dylan Roof, Nidal Hassan? There is zero chance of an unfair outcome in cases like that, so why keep them alive?

Frankly, in those cases I would mandate execution within 30 days of arrest, with only one trial quickly carried out, no appeals with a confession. That's how it was always done by all of humanity, before the last couple of generations. We're not "smarter" than everyone in the past, we're stupider, especially when it comes to the survival of our society.

"I canceled the deal last night, I said 'I'm not gonna sign that deal,' because Nancy Pelosi came in and put a lot of things in the deal that had nothing to do with the workers," Trump explained. "It had to do with an agenda that they've been trying to get passed for 10 years. And, I came in, I told [Vice President] Mike Pence, I told a lot of people, 'there's no way I'm signing that deal.'"

"I was getting calls from John Kennedy, from Ben Sasse, from many many people . . . I was getting calls from a lot of different people, saying 'this deal . . . is terrible, what they've done.'"

Scott Adams mentioned a huge 'dog that didn't bark' last night-- maybe it's that Pelosi and the MSM would have normally politicized the heck out of Trump denying their alleged coronavirus aid bill, claimed he was literally killing people by delaying it, but instead they just shut up and moved on?

I doubt any sale or lease would occur within the first 20 years or so, with any deal having to be approved by the three senior administrators of the agency.

Pay off the national debt
Pay off all private mortgages
Pay off all student debt
Pay off all credit card debt
Pay off all consumer loans
Rebuild the entire infrastructure of the country (roads, bridges, sewer, water) to a high level
Build 500 300Mw identical reactors to provide free power to local grids
Give seniors the option to either stay with Social Security or take a buyout.

Using the reset plan, the money advanced would be focused on the middle class. The rich don't have mortgages (mostly), or carry credit card, student or consumer debt. Imagine if everyone woke up one morning debt free, with their existing assets. On top of that, the entire country would be getting rebuilt with all the associated jobs.

441 Never saw Nancy as a political mastermind, more of a cunning mob boss. She excels at getting her own people in line (strong-arming behind the scenes), creating a united front. This skill has enabled her to defeat the GOP again and again. The GOP can never unite, and has it's mavericks/centrists who can be easily ego-stroked by Pelosi or Schumer into selling out their own party, as well as a lot of them simply playing failure theater. Also, she and the DNC have an iron grip on the media.

That's how she constantly delivers to her donors, bigly. That she and Schumer have been outplayed by Trump, a political novice, shows how inflexible and unclever they are. They have one playbook. It's worked for decades. Now, it is failing because the opposition (finally) changed.

I'm still baffled why the common naming convention is not to just call it what the WHO has officially called it:

SARS-CoV-2

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome - Corona Virus - 2

Calling it "the coronavirus" is incorrect, because it's not *the* coronavirus, it's *a strain of* coronavirus.

Calling it "COVID-19" is incorrect, because that is the name of the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2.

It truly is amazing how pretty much no one is using the actual name of the virus, from media to hospitals to everyone else.

I bet most of the world thinks the virus is COVID-19, when that, in fact, is the disease.

A Chinese researcher published a paper yesterday about the

Hu Flung Flu and how it started and she believes she identified Patient Zero.

Patient Zero was a researcher at one of the bioweapon research facilities who was exposed to their test bats blood and urine, and he subsequently fell sick.

She said this is very similar to how they know the previous SARS pandemic started.

But, her paper suddenly disappeared and now she can't be found.

So.....more of that Chinese gov't openness.

I expect her to never be seen again."

519 Someone yesterday correctly imo said these arent bailouts. These businesses were doing fine before the government shut them down. Not the same at all as the companies who in 2007, 2008 took on undue risk in hopes of big profits
Posted by: LASue at March 25, 2020 09:27 AM (LaluL)
+++++++++++++
They're bailouts. Some of it is probably justified, though, given the extreme outside influence of power players (e.g., the state). Some of the items I think are justified:
- Fed backstopping commercial paper. Without this, as we learned in the aftermath of 9/11, the money market funds dry up and that removes an essential lubrication mechanism.
- SBA loan availability. I don't like the "convert into a grant" - I would prefer "interest waived with a five-year payback period" - but that is what it is, I guess.
- I don't like but am on the fence about an airline and Boeing bailout
- I don't like the helicopter drops of money to individuals, I would prefer extending unemployment benefits on an emergency basis to those furloughed but not laid off.
- I don't like the block grants to the states. I would prefer chargeback to the Feds for specific items, if necessary.

It's a mixed bag, if it resembles what they were talking about.

1) China
2) SARS

Calling the virus by its "right name" of "SARS-CoV-2" is too close to calling it the "China virus" or "Wuhan virus." It has all the same problems.

I really think China influence is driving most of the sudden lurch into "Covid and nothing but Covid."

Probably right, but that means either

1 --- Everyone going by COVID-19 is bought by the Chinese, including healthcare places and hospitals and such whom you would think would want to report accurate information to people

or...

2 --- Everyone is ignorant of the facts and just going by the "common nomenclature" being used by the media, which is bought by the Chinese.

Likely #2, but that's even scarier. Just shows how much influence the media still has, no matter what anyone says that "people have tuned them out" and "people don't trust the media".

541 I just went through the numbers of the folks that would be using Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroqine in Nevada (based on average population of Nevada versus the US), and come up with a maximum of aroudn 9,500 people (and not all of these will use the drugs). These drugs have a legitimate perscription purpose for Malaria (basically zero cases in Nevada), Lupus (about 1.5 million cases in US, estimate around 4,500 cases in Nevada), and Rheumatoid Arthritis (about 1.3 million cases in US, estimate around 4,000 in Nevada). So the Nevada governor signed this order to protect the supply of these drugs for what is probably much less than 9,500 people in his state? I call bullshit. This is a dem Trump bashing, and I guess he wants people in his state to eat fish tank cleaner.

Posted by: jim at March 25, 2020 11:52 AM (DF+pC)

542 Okay, munged my numbers. Nevada has population of less than 3.2 million, population of country is around 330 million. So Nevada is less than 1% of the population. Around 14,500 with Lupus, 12,600 with Rheumatoid arthritis, total around 27,100 people, many who probably don't take these drugs.

Yep, here in Ohio with about 550 cases, 9 dead (3 apparently from one nursing home), Gov. DeWine and Dr. Amy Acton (head of OH Dept. of Health) they've been reduced to pleading with people to stay home because they're predicting the China virus is going be bad "soon" and overwhelm the hospitals. If bodies are not being stacked like cord wood by Easter, there's going to be hell to pay with this lock-down.
