I can't wait to see James Bond's newest mission for the British Soycret Soyvice.In other Bonfire of the IPs news: CBS All Access won't tell us how many people are watching the Fake Star Trek Picard show -- which suggests to me that the numbers are soft -- but we do know how many people are watching in Canada, where it's broadcast over the airwaves. While it's still doing pretty well, it's lost half a million viewers as the series has ground on.
If it seems like the Trump presidency seeps into everything that is good and pure in the world and poisons it. That's because it does. Well, you can now add James Bond to the list of things that the world’s most depressingly omnipresent news story has infected, as Daniel Craig related to Sam Knight for this month’s cover story. "We struggled to keep Trump out of this film," Craig told Knight of No Time To Die. "But of course it is there. Sony's doing a Cinderella movie, and they've decided to make the Fairy Godmather "genderless" -- that is, transgender.
With Episode 5 only clocking in 1.309 million, it lost 111,000 viewers [from episode 4]. That's almost a 30% decline in viewership in just 5 episodes. The show is losing on average 108,000 viewers per episode. It has lost 542,000 total since the premiere episode.
Actor Billy Porter recently revealed he will be playing a "genderless" Fairy Godmother in Sony’s upcoming Cinderella film. The live-action adaptation by Kay Cannon will attempt to modernize the classic tale with an all-star cast and some social messaging. Porter let the cat out of the bag that the Fairy Godmother would be "genderless" in an interview with CBS News.I'm sure parents can't wait to bring their little ones to that. I've mentioned Fake Doctor Who's ratings a lot, but the final, consolidated numbers came in, where they add in everyone who watched the show on-demand/streaming for a week. The finale -- the finale! of the show posted the worst ratings in all of the "New Who" series (that is, since they brought the show back in 2005). Furthermore, of the lowest ten rated episodes in all of Doctor Who history, going all the way back to the Kennedy assassination (when Doctor Who had the bad luck of premiering), six of the worst-rated episodes occurred this season. This season -- when they actually add in viewers watching on demand the week after broadcast. People hate this show so much the BBC had to issue a formal response.

But Boris Johnson wants to do away with forcing the public to pay for leftwing propaganda and make the BBC compete for its money. "The Greta Thunberg of Marvel," Brie Larson, recently tried to remake her terrible public image as the most annoying, entitled cooze in show business by guest-hosting Jimmy Fallon. In that appearance, she -- get this! -- actually smiled a lot, and showed cleavage. Like, a lot of it. Like, more than you'd think. At about the same time, she put out a video on Twitter that showed her bouncing, bouncing, jiggling and bouncing as she ran down some stairs.

A very good adaptation of the novel. And Skyfall is probably the best Bond film after From Russia With Love. Don't get me wrong; Connery was still the embodiment of Fleming's character; but Craig is excellent, and the 2012 movie is dynamite.

"Unsellable Houses" on HGTV - which follows a couple of hip young women in (I think) Portland who help sellers make their houses hip and sellable in exchange for some of the sale price - racks up 7 million viewers.
A real estate show on HGTV with somewhat limited appeal gets nearly double what these former cultural-icon programs bring in.

On that note the Spanish Inquisition(like most Inquisitions) ceded power to the local national authority, that is the Spanish monarchy. Attempts to withdraw it ended in failure. The Spanish monarchs were able to use the Inquisition to control the nobility, leading to an earlier rise of absolutism than most of Europe(absolutism typically requires the crown to first subjugate the clergy in some fashion).

Someone was bragging about how big of hit GoT was. I went back to 1980 and looked at average ratings for the year. The GoT finale tied with the average viewing of Little House on the Prairie which I think was in the 8-10 standings wise. That's with a lot fewer people in the country. These shows would have been cancelled within three episodes and everyone banished.

Underwater sequences are hard to do at all, and much harder to make exciting.
Everything moves more slowly naturally. You can't see anyone's faces, so it's harder to determine who's who and who's doing what to whom. And, it was filmed like a nature documentary.
They're action scenes that move like glaciers.

The underwater scenes play like a real time sequence of Bond -
taking the bus to the local Dunkin Donuts, taking his time choosing his donuts, then changing his mind and choosing other donuts, then getting back on the bus and going home, then entering his apartment, mixing his breakfast martini, sitting down to eat his donuts, then going to brush his teeth.
Only that would be more exciting than the Underwater Scenes in "Thunderball".

Also, Game of Thrones was HBO-- already a limited audience, but it got incredible amounts of favorable coversge. Shows like NCIS and Blue Bloods get waaaay higher numbers but TV reviewers look down on them so they don't get the publicity.

It's a victim of the writer's strike. All the plot stuff was stuff that Paul Haggis shat out 2 hours before the strike began. All the character based stuff (which is in there) was all stuff they made up on set.
The biggest drop from one movie to the next, I think, is from Death Wish to Death Wish 2.

I agree. Oh, there are some good parts, like with Luciana Paluzzi the Italian redhead, and the opening sequence at the spa straight out of Fleming's novel. But footage of people swimming under the sea fills me with mild but waning interest.
And Bond is always at his best when he is the lone agent standing between the villain and his nefarious plan. See Doctor No as the classic example. Having the CIA, FBI, and the U.S. Navy helping him out is not as much fun.

Fifty five years ago (yes, the Bond franchise has been alive that long) my stepbrother and I got lost on a back road in Jamaica. The car got stuck and my stepbrother went in search of help. Being more than a little intoxicated (no drinking age in Jamaica) I let him. He came back with a fellow named Timothy Moxon...a planter who had played the part of General Strangways, whose murder opened the film.
It turned out we were lucky to find him. The place where we got stuck was between two areas...one designated the "Region of Look Behind and the other called "Me No Send, You No Come.

Fair enough, but those big budget Hollywood folks are super serious about their unions, and any writer caught working on script rewrites would be dead on arrival for future movie projects, and the producers, directors, and actors using scab rewrites would have black eyes going forwards too.

The US economy should over time react decently to the shock. Lower consumer prices and lower manufacturing costs will be good for us. Yeah but 50 in the 70s is not the same as 50 now. People are staying fit and healthy and vital much older than they used to. People joke about how Aunt May looked too old in the comics, but back in the early 60s, that's what someone in their 50s reasonably would look like.
You can see it in old TV shows and movies, anyone past 40 is a bent old crone or withered old man. White hair, rheumatism, etc. Life was very hard for their earlier years, plus everyone smoked like a chimney.

theres no shot for this and its pretty contagious, so everyone is going to get it about the same time. The resources will be over taxed and you'll get a lot of people who will not make it because they didn't have a ventilator available.
They do a lot of non invasive ventilation now for ARDS which will help a lot, but it's still gonna suck till like July. Peak will probably be in May.

That is one of the funnier sequences in the novel, where M goes on a health kick and forces all his agents (especially boozing Bond) on it as well, shoving him into a health clinic/resort ("sanitarium" back then). Bond goes along with it because he knows within a few months M will be back to his old ways and he can relax again.

I've watched some of his early (ca. 1962) Saint episodes, and he would have been good as Bond at that point. Not quite the dark panther that Connery was, but a solid believable figure.

Reasonably good chance its going to suck pretty hard.
That said, we have a greater capacity to work from home than even 10 years earlier. So that will flatten the curve a fair amount.

Raven - the same is true for the flu. I'm going to continue to keep my kids away from my immunocompromised dad with lung disease for the next few months. But I'd be doing that regardless of the overall virus situation. Even RSV could be very dangerous for my dad right now.

The original X-Men movie was surprisingly good given that basically every line of dialogue was by a different writer. (The jokes that worked were by Joss Whedon, IIRC).

He has established National task Force to deal with the problem and approved billions for fighting this virus. .
He has the drug companies on board to expedite a vaccine and treatment.
He is talking about making a deal with Congress to mitigate income losses from people who miss work because of the virus.
He suspended travel to and from virus hot spots. Some of which are most certainly going to be challenged in Court.
What more can he do?
