Kurt Schlichter: "Embarrassing Festival Of Never Trump Losers Occurs For Some Reason"

Have you all got your "Summit on Principled Conservatism" tickets yet?

Woke Rule No. 1 is that anything with "Principles" in its name is a grift. Now, something called "Principles First" -- ugh -- is trying to shoehorn into CPAC’s spotlight with its "National Summit on Principled Conservatism" to be held in D.C. on February 29th, and for the low, low, almost certainly lib tech tycoon-subsidized price of $10, you can attend this sexless Never Trump Freaknik.

It's an opportunity to get one-on-one with all your favorite relevancy-challenged B-list MSNBCNN guests for a full day of complaining about Donald Trump and having them show you on the doll exactly where Trump hurt them. Brace yourselves for impassioned pleas by impotent weirdos to vote for the crusty commie curmudgeon because Trump sends mean tweets, plus plenty of "Oh well I nevers" and "We're better than thats" as Pearl Clutchfest 2020 gets well and truly lit. Just don't be surprised if the marquee outside reads "Puppet Show and Never Trump."

From political consultants who are no longer consulted to writers who are no longer read, this is the Woodstock for conservatives who never actually conserved anything.

Later, he says:

Basically, it's the Fyre Festival for the biggest bunch of failures in American politics.

Oh, a source just sent me the text of the brainstorming whiteboard for National Summit for Muh Princibuhls.

NeverTrump Wishes

Principles
Feelings
Ships
Ships' airhorns
Shirts for short girthy men that look good untucked
Genderless bathrooms with nautical theming and little gloryholes that look like portholes
Fundraising opportunities (grift)
Better pastry selection in the MSNBC Green Room
Relevancy

Speaking of grifters being paid by leftwing Franco-Iranian Pierre Omidyar, in the sidebar I had noted that Bill Kristol -- seconded by #SalonHot25 All-Star AllahPundit -- had cried "IMMORAL!" at some conservatives' idea of voting in the South Carolina Democrat primary, for Bernie Sanders. Trying to nominate the worst possible candidate to engineer an easy general election win for Trump in November.

Now, I don't endorse that plan, but not because of morality; I just think it's tempting fate. The Democrats did that with Trump and look how that turned out.

I wouldn't want to wake up on November 4th thinking, "Wait, did I just help elect a communist?"

But that's not a moral concern; that's about your beliefs about the likelihood of Bernie Sanders winning. If you think he's almost absolutely guaranteed to lose, then it makes strategic sense to cross over to vote for him.

If you're not sure -- and/or worried about hubris and Greek ironic tragedies -- you'd take a pass on the gamble.

Along with Inigo Montoya, I have come to doubt the meaning of the word "Inconceivable."

But anyway, Fat Sauron and his Drunk Gollum are whining about the "immorality" of telling Republicans to cross over and vote for a Democrat for reasons of general election strategy.

I said that Kristol had encouraged Democrats to vote for Weld or Walsh.

I remembered wrong. Kristol urged Republicans to vote for the one of the Democrat candidates he hopes to fundraise off of.

Yes, Mr. Morality has actually urged people to cross over in primaries in several cases.

In New Hampshire...

...and in Virginia:

But here this asshole flips out over suggestions that real Republicans can pull the same trick:

Why would Trump do that?

Because he read your book, Bill. He read your book, you son of a bitch!

Disclaimer/Clarification: I'm kidding. No one reads Bill Kristol's books.

And Bill Kristol doesn't write books any more.

He writes... Tweets! He Tweet-Tweet-Tweetie-Tweets all day long.

And then he wonders why his mental acuity is falling so rapdily.

Maybe it has something to do with using a communications medium designed to allow ignorant teenagers to exchange pizza and sex plans all day long.

Anyway, I yearn for more moral instruction from fire-breathing secularists, and more lessons about True Conservatism from people gearing up to support a communist -- for real, not as a ratf***ing maneuver -- in November.

There is a huge difference between "Trump-opposed" and "NeverTrump."

Take Andrew Klavan. He was not a Trump enthusiast and still isn't. He campaigned against Trump. But he acknowledges that, despite the Trumpy stuff he doesn't like (lack of philosophical conservative underpinnings [he describes Trump as an "instinctive conservative" instead of a trained/reasoned one, etc.], gruff demeanor, etc.), he has moved the ball bigly and has accomplished a lot of things worth accomplishing.

There is all the difference in the world between that and NeverTrump con-men.

And if we had ignored their "conservatism" in policy implementation during that time, we'd be debt free and driving flying cars that emit gold.

It was quite a scandal these hacks were running and, I regret to say, for a couple adult years during Bush-Clinton era, they had me going. But those days have been long gone. Very long gone. You have no idea how long gone. Let's just say... long.

They're done for no matter what. The only smart play is for them to be feathering their savings accounts.

If Trump is re-elected, then they're failures who can't move the ball. If they're failures, there's no point in continuing their subsidies.

If Trump is defeated, then the gloves come off and we're an lawless dictatorship within three years. They have nothing more to offer and will just get in the way. There's no point in paying someone for no reason.
T
They're finished after November. If they don't realize this and aren't socking away the cash for the future, they'll be living under bridges within three years (I figure it will take that long for them to run out of money and for their friends to tire of them and kick them out of their guest rooms).

For all their talk about Trump betraying conservative principles, which of your conservative principles do you think he has betrayed?

Maybe it helps to be outside the bubble of Washington (and pretty much outside the bubble of politics in general), but I just don't see what there is about Trump himself or what he's done that could get a generally conservative person so upset. Am I looking to him as a moral example? No, but that puts him in the same boat as every other politician in the world (and that goes double for the Washington sycophants who aren't technically politicians, but who make their living off of it).

I watched Terry Gilliams' Jabberwocky recently, and they're, in some ways, the same story.

They're both adaptations of the poem Jabberwocky.

Gilliam takes his in his weird, handmade, cynical direction

Burton's is a straightforward action/fantasy.

Probably a cornerstone argument for why Gilliam is the superior filmmaker over Burton.

Here's the other thing which big-brained Klavan has to realize: Trump is an effective tip of the spear.

Trump is the bull in the china shop no one - NO ONE - before him dared to be. Therefore, he was setting a new path where HE would take the heat and let the - let's be honest - weaker conservatives fall-in behind and safely do conservative things.

No Trump, no change. Ever. That had been the trajectory for literally decades except for that existential ratcheting backwards of a national, slow-motion collapse.

So it doesn't matter how stylistically or intellectually Trump gets there. The only thing that matters is That He Gets There. And he is to the extent that it's possible.

Burton obviously had no real interest in the script, which is why it feels entirely like a first draft attempt at "cleverly" combining a "new" take on Alice in Wonderland with as many references to the Jabberwocky poem as possible.

I like Burton, but he's always been more of a visualist than a storyteller, so the quality of his films tend to be crapshoots of quality.

254 Also I think Bernie has at least a 40-45% chance of being elected. The siren call of free shit compels idiots.
Posted by: alexthechick

I listened to NPR a few days ago, and they were saying how Bernie's message is that it is OK to take free shit. It was scary to listen to. They made it sound like leeches and layabouts are an oppressed group who are unfairly criticized for being naturally lazy and cheats.

(They had another piece about the border security not letting in a woman who was 7 months pregnant, and they were triumphant that she was able to get a lawyer to get her in before her anchor baby was born. )

(They also compared Bernie's appeal to the deprived recipients of SNAP and section 8 to Trumps appeal to nazis and racists)

Anyway, we pay for this shit.

But your point stands that bernie has made his career out of telling people that their worst inclinations are not only OK, but honorable and that he will provide for them.

And Bill Kristol doesn't write books any more.

Actually, Kristol has NEVER written books. Look at his bibliography. Several anthologies of his magazine article retreads, a couple of anthologies he "edited" and one book co-written with someone else, and I've got $10 says that Billy didn't write more than a paragraph, letting his co-writer do all the real work.

Troi is an example of Star Trek gone completely wrong.

Who considers empath/telepath/mind readers to actually be interesting, and not terrifying? Even if it is meant to be in a therapeutic setting?

Even in that setting, everyone should have the sanctity of their own mind. Most real humans know this.

The empath/Telepath tribe (Betazeds?) would be the first example of a joint species conducted genocide in the galaxy.

515 I always did have ambivalent feelings about the Weekly Standard.
I felt that it was a National Review wannabe but with fewer pages, equal cost and less conservatism.
Now of course it's dead and National Review has fewer pages, costs more and with less conservatism.
One might also feel that NR might not have ANY conservatism in it at all.
That Said, despite all the hype and legends and myths, Mr. Buckley wasn't really all that conservative back in the day. Oh he was COMPARED with others but over all, NO.
The guy lived in the county of Fairfield in Connecticut and that's a ship load of liberalism and Washington - New York - Boston experience and you just can't live there and be a real conservative. Trust me on this.
Man oh man Trump has been like Diogenes and his lamp, shining a light on all the vermin and parasites. They don't even bother to try to skitter away. They gather together and try to attack whoever's holding the lamp.
It's been a very interesting 4 years. Glad I was around to see it. Hope to see even more stuff and to actually see some steps taken to clean things up a bit. It will only last for awhile but that's long enough.
