Here's something crazy (at least to me):
My mother has been getting robo-calls from the Trump campaign! Why this is remarkable is that she lives in the most heavily-skewed Democratic district probably anywhere in the country, and has been a Dem her whole life, and has never ever ever been contacted or micro-targeted by a Republican or conservative ever. This means the Trump campaign is playing aggressive offense and going after voters in deep blue zip codes. The funny part is she's only vaguely aware that he's even president and has no idea what his politics are. I think the last time she last voted it was for Dukakis. She calls me up and says, "I keep getting these calls from, what's his name, Trump? Why is he calling me?" "I don't hink he's calling you personally, mom -- he's the president." "Wellhis voice is on the phone and he says they're only going after him because he lowered my taxes. Is that true?" "Probably." "Who is going after him?" "The Democratic Party." "Why?" "Because he's a Republican." "He is? Isn't he is New York or something?" "Well, he was, but not any more." "Well tell him to stop bothering me!" Purple states ladies and gentlemen and this about taking the senate. Impeachment my ass! This is about neutering the presidents his agenda the next four years. Go Bernie BTW! Trump vs Bernie. Compare and contrast for all the world to see. This discussion long overdue exposing socialism.
Posted by: Sherpa_K2 at January 28, 2020 07:34 PM (BsCoj) 31
I guess this was sort of willowed, but there is ZERO GAIN to breaking the whip for a senator who isn't terminally ill.
McCain did it because it was his last act of assholedom on earth. He'd made a lifetime study of the practice and wanted to go out in style. The vote will be choreographed, just like Kavanaugh. I will remind people that the vote on that was used "pairing" to ensure that Kav was confirmed and a senator didn't miss his daughter's wedding. The Senate is not the House. They will not burn down their traditions for a handful of media soundbites. People need to stop lighting their hair on fire over this. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at January 28, 2020 07:34 PM (cfSRQ) 32
Pretty sure Trump studied JFK's patter. It creeps into his speeches. It's designed to appeal to a wide range of people, especially older people who still remember JFK.

Democrats hate you because Trump gives you hope. He takes you out from under their thumb and most despotic desires. He takes you away from their control over your future and puts it back in your own hands. He restores justice to you, and takes away their perversion of the law. In the end Trump gives us and our republic a brighter, a more prosperous future, and they despise us all for it. They want nothing more then to rule and lord over our lives, directing us, our children and our county into a dark place that doesn't resemble the great America we all know. Don't let it happen.

Massive popularity of Trump. Growing. He's what the people want. And at the same time, the Deep State is trying to railroad him on nonexistent crimes. The impeachment is so thin and fake, yet the pompous ass Democrats go through the motions, make their ponderous pronouncements and thundering declarations. Fake, fake, fake. The message is, obviously, that the people can't be trusted to choose their own leader. It must be done for them. The people made a mistake in 2016, and the Deep State must stage an intervention. Take a good look at that crowd, losers. If you railroad Trump, or otherwise bring him down, that crowd is coming to your door and you don't have enough cops to stop them. I have a feeling that if the senate does not vote to hear from witnesses, then they will vote to not hear from witnesses. There is a pretty good chance that they will vote to end the impeachment, but if they don't, they will vote to acquit, unless they get 67 votes, then they will vote to convict. One of those things will certainly happen, unless something else entirely happens.... like Roberts jumps up on the podium and rips off his robe, declaring that the party has started and he is here to bring the heat.

"Your guns won't be taken away as long as I am president."
Think about the juxtaposition with Democrats. Here's a president who says that in order for citizens to keep their power/rights/freedom, they have to keep supporting a "tyrant" (according to Dems) who fights for their right to keep the tools to topple tyrants. The irony is perverse but true. Naturally, the only solution is to vote Trump as President for Life. The Progressives should approve that. It's right up their alley. So McConnell isn't sure he's got the votes to preclude calling witnesses. New witnesses would continue the violation of impeachment procedures that began in the house. If there's one thing the GOPe knows, it's staging honorable failures and courageous near-misses. Is one thing going to lead to another, and another? If the GOP senators actually have a secret incremental plan to railroad Trump out of office to protect their corruption, there will indeed be heads on pikes.
