Diane Feinstein: I Don't Know If There's Enough Evidence for Impeachment to Support Anything But an Acquittal

Interesting.

Just after President Trump’s defense lawyers ended arguments in their Senate trial Tuesday, Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California became the first Democrat to suggest that she could vote to acquit him, despite serious concerns about his character.

"Nine months left to go, the people should judge. We are a republic, we are based on the will of the people-- the people should judge," Feinstein said Tuesday, after the president’s team finished a three-day presentation in his defense. "That was my view and it still is my view."

Still, she indicated that arguments in the trial about Trump's character and fitness for office had left her undecided. "What changed my opinion as this went on," she said, is a realization that "impeachment isn't about one offense. It's really about the character and ability and physical and mental fitness of the individual to serve the people, not themselves."

Diane Feinstein, who employed for decades a spy for Red China in a sensitive position, is an excellent judge of character.

Meanwhile, some GOPers are suggesting that they have the votes to force a final vote, guilty or innocent, by Friday.

On that claim that "Bolton might be a bust" -- Bolton claimed that AG Barr had confided in him that he was afraid of the Mad Tyrant Trump, and Barr calls Bolton a liar.

I don't know if I believe these claims. The GOP has three or four enormous turncoats, basically Democrats embedded in the Republican Party -- Romney, Collins, Murkowski, and Alexander.

I think that some Senators are trying to bluff these guys into just voting against witnesses and moving for a final vote.

I know Romney, for one, is dead-set against that.

Other GOPers like Hawley and Rand Paul are trying to bluff that if Bolton is called, then they'll call the Bidens and the whistleblower.

But Romeny, Collins, and Murkowski would have to vote in favor of those witnesses, too.

I think the threat being made here is: Vote for all witnesses or none at all, and no, we will not provide you with political cover if you decide to simply vote with the Democrats, as usual.

But is that a real threat? Does the GOP Senate committee ever actually punish traitors or support challengers?

And I think three of these four -- Romney, Murkowski, and Alexander -- aren't just willing to vote entirely with Democrats, but would take a Traitor's Glee in doing so.

The only one who might shy away from just completely dropping the mask is Susan Collins, who is up for reelection this year.

She still has to pretend. But just for eight more months.

Update: Rick Scott also saying they have the votes to end the "trial" and proceed to final vote.

The trouble is, I think they're trying to bluff the c***s. And I don't think they can be bluffed. It's easy to count to four.

They don't give a damn if they lose an election.

They also are betting that we don't have the numbers or the will to vote them out, to stay at home or vote for the Dem challenger.

If they vote to remove Trump, what are people going to do? Storm DC and drag every one of these treasonous bastards out of their offices?
Surround their homes with a howling mob? Call the cops and have them SWATted?

I'll tell you what would happen - people's keyboards would melt down in indignation, there would be chest-puffing and posts about how the Deep State has won and true patriots now need to water the Tree of Liberty. . .

But hey, the Super Bowl is coming on! Yay, America's Team! And anyway, VP Pence is there. He's an OK guy. He'll carry on Trump's work.

Umm, wasn't the Ukraine government looking into the Bidens around 2015 or so? IIRC, this didn't begin with PDT but was a continuation of something that started during TFG's Rein of Error. What's the deal?

Plus PDT is fulfilling treaty obligations. Has that been mentioned by the Trump team I wonder? Couldn't watch or listen to anything today.

I have mentioned this before.

On April 3, 2014, President Obama signed into law the Support for the Sovereignty, Integrity, Democracy, and Economic Stability of Ukraine Act of 2014 (Public Law No. 113-95). The law includes new authority, not specifically identified in previous executive orders, for the President to impose sanctions on individuals who have committed gross human rights abuses in Ukraine associated with anti-government protests that began in November 2013. The law also provides the President authority to impose sanctions on individuals and entities deemed to have engaged in significant corruption in either Ukraine or Russia. Previously, with regard to corruption, Executive Order 13660 only provided the President authority to impose sanctions on persons involved with the "misappropriation of state assets of Ukraine or of an economically significant entity in Ukraine."

It would be nice to see Trump after winning the 2020 election impose these sanctions with respect to all the individuals (many of them impeachment witnesses) engage in corrupt practices in Ukraine.

Also Joe Manchin. What about his vote?

Votes from one or both would make the Republican In Name Only Senators subversion irrelevant.

As some Moron said the other day - watch Jones' vote.

If he votes for anything the Dems want, his seat is lost completely, he knows it, and just wants to stick it to Trump.

If he votes at all with anything the GOP wants, he thinks he still has a chance . . .

it really depends

I know people in advertising who are on several nonprofit boards, and they are there because of their prowess in marketing/advertising and general business knowledge, plus connections

usually you are recommended to a board position by an existing board member and you have to apply and convince the board you would be an asset.

they don't usually pay all that much and they usually do expect each member to contribute SOMETHING even if it IS just connections

the thing that's wonky about Hunt is that he wasn't ever THERE for board meetings and he was paid an awful lot. but Burisma is not a nonprofit so I guess they can pay board members more??!

Look at all the money and success that Mitt Romney has enjoyed over the years.

From Bain where he made millions, to Governor, to President of the Utah Olympics, to Senator.

Worth many millions and lives essentially where he wants to. Does pretty much what he wants to.

And now, his only goal in life is to make President Trump's life as miserable as he can.

He doesn't even care about the citizens of Utah, who elected him.

What a piece of sh*t. A human piece of sh*t.

I'm a bit late to this but whip counts are very important.

When McCain broke the whip, he did so because he was terminally ill. It was literally his last, best chance to fvck the GOP.

Anyone else who isn't planning on dying within months would permanently screw themselves.

The Dems will cheer, and then still treat them like dirt because of they lie to their current whip, they'll lie to the new one as well.

And what do they get in exchange? The Senate will probably see modest GOP gains. So all you do is screw yourself.

I know this is Pessimist Hair On Fire Central, but getting to 51 isn't hard.

Also, there are Dems that will probably switch. Sinema and Manchin, for example. Crossing over actually helps them retain support at home.

It's really kind of astonishing, given how Trump has made waves by

What is President Trump making Israel give up without any Palestinian matching sacrifices?

If the Israelis give up nothing up front, then this is a good peace plan, because you know the Palestinians will reject it.

The Palestinians have already rejected it, and are planning riots, killings, and general acting like animals.

And Iran will be financing the violence as well as encouraging the violence. Expect a Palestinian Rejectionist Conference in Tehran next month.

407 What's crazy about this - what if UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, et al sign on to it, and the Palestinians refuse?

Then what? The Palestinians will never see a dime again -from anyone. The Iranians? Yeah right, pay them with what exactly?

Just cut off all the Pali money and recognition. Make continued "resistance" very expensive and boring and potentially lethal.

Look, the world has moved past this shit. Waaaaay past it. no one gives a rats's ass about Palestinians.

Mind boggling.

And Trump decides not to cancel all fights to and from China but will monitor the situation daily.

412 I served on a broad for a large electrical utility. I got paid $1000 a month. They'd kick in some travel expenses totaling maybe $1,500 more a year. So I cleared almost $15,000/year. Whoo-whee!

I had to show up one evening every week, and usually had some homework to do before meetings. I spoke the language and was intimately familiar with the energy business. Once a year we had a weekend long meeting to plan.

We would occasionally let someone on the board for political reasons, but they were excepted to contribute, and got the same pay. Never had a problem getting people to sit for the board - they liked it, and saw it as a stepping stone to better things, or a retirement plan for extra cash.

It's why my blood just boils over Hunter Biden. Fucking Democrat hypocrites. Trump is corrupt? Three words: Hunter Fucking Biden. If it wasn't illegal it should have been. How many thousands of qualified board members could Burisma hire for $50k per month? Just in Europe? But they picked a crackhead lawyer from the U.S.

413 They can support primary challengers, but it's not hard to see someone like Murkowski switching parties or going independent without losing her seat.

She ran as an independent last time (or time before that) after losing primary.

415 I don't believe Finestien for a second. This is a set in case Bolton testifies so she can take to the fainting couch and say "I was ready to acquit but that testimony was so powerful... I had no idea." Then her media thralls would be able to avoid anything he said or if there are inconsistencies and that it's his word vs others and just lead with "Bolton testimony convincing enough to change minds in the Senate.
