Breaking: Noted Twitter-Addict and Morbidly Obese Person Counsels Self-Restraint

This guy's "shoulders" look like they should have nipples

I've never seen a guy so damn proud to teach at extension school.

Note that Tom Nichols has played in these same currents ximself:

Meanwhile, Real Republican and Friend of National Review Rick Wilson and his supporter Ilhan "Omar" Nur continue digging in.

It has always been and shall always be. Trump literally puts it in simple language all the damn time: "It's not me they're after, it's you and I'm just in the way."

Yet Tom Nichols and Rick Wilson and their ilk think they're being subversive or whatever by yet again putting it into equally direct terms and thinking that, for some reason, the rubes won't notice.

And they're right about that, but for somewhat ironic reasons. The rubes are going notice because the rubes don't listen to them.

The previous President also was friends with a domestic terrorist , a rabid anti-Semite and a communist anti American who may or may not be his real father. The other Dem President's moral character was even worse. Rapist, adulterer, pathological liar and perjurer. He paid a woman 800k for exposing himself. He stuck cigars in his intern's vagina in the sanctity of the Oval Office . He rode on Epstein's jet many times and lied about it. He and his wife ran the biggest charity foundation scam in history putting the Country in legitimate danger.

Trump's trade deals,
(bad, he is rejecting generations of wisdom on trade and doing irreparable damage to the cause of globalism)
or how he did it.
(by rooking the rubes and tricking them with mean words and nativism)
Of course the left has no idea how reality works and don't feel any obligation to deal with it.

134 $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

...Whereas HRC's campaign took entire states for granted, Trump's team is systematically reaching beyond his base:

Brad Parscale, the manager of the Trump campaign, is very data-driven and, following most rallies, he reports statistics about the attendees.... On average, 23% of rally goers identify as Democrats. For Toledo, OH, this number was 21.9%.... The really stunning stat from this rally, which Parscale has never reported on before, is that 20.9% of attendees identified as Independents.... This means that 42.8% of the 22,927 voters were either a Democrat or an Independent.

In addition, as Thomas Edsall at the New York Times recently put it, "Trump Is Winning the Online War." Under Brad Parscale's leadership, according to Edsall, "the Trump re-election machine has devoted millions more than any individual Democrat to increasingly sophisticated microtargeting techniques." They have also been at it a long time. Since 2016 the Trump campaign has been working on techniques for identifying voters and developing electronic communication tools. The Trump campaign is now so far ahead of the Democrats in sophisticated microtargeting techniques that it is unlikely that any opponent will ever be able to catch up:

Even if the Democrats settle on a nominee by March 2020, he or she will have seven months to catch up with the work Trump and Parscale started four years earlier.... In high-tech political warfare, recent history shows that sitting presidents without primary challengers -- Bush in 2004 and Obama in 2012 -- developed voter contact weaponry that their opponents -- John Kerry and Mitt Romney -- had neither the time nor the money to match.

...This brings us to the Democrats. Nancy Pelosi and her co-conspirators have, of course, impeached the president. Parscale and the Trump reelection campaign have used this farce as an opportunity to connect with more voters and raise additional cash. AP reports, "Since the impeachment proceedings began, the Republican National Committee has seen 600,000 new donors. The campaign and the RNC took in $10 million in small-dollar donations in just 48 hours during impeachment week." Meanwhile, the social media strategy favored by Democratic presidential frontrunner, Joe Biden, is to threaten Facebook and its founder.

Biden's real problem with Facebook is that he doesn't have the money to compete with Trump on social media. His fundraising during the most recent quarter, though it produced his best haul thus far in the campaign, is half of what President Trump brought in during the same period.

A brain surgeon got home late from a complicated surgery and felt the carpet go "squish" under his feet. His toilet had broken and was flooding his house. He went to turn off the valve and it just spun - did nothing.

He called a 24-hour emergency plumber. He showed up, fixed the valve, and 30 minutes later handed the surgeon a bill for $250.

The surgeon was outraged. He yelled, "I'm a brain surgeon and I don't make $500 an hour!"

Yeah, somebody actually said that by insisting on conflict between powers, it's threatening the separation of those powers.

No mention about how turning the Whistleblower escalation procedure into a direct line to Congress for anybody who wants to bitch about policy, so the House can impeach over policy might harm the separation.

Second, unless McConnell is a bigger stupid asshole than I suspect, tomorrow's 8 hours for questions should just be from the Democrats, and Thursday's 8 hour sessions should be the questions from Republicans, giving the president's team the final word, as it should be.*

If McConnell allows the questions to be mixed from D's and R's over the 2 days, McConnell is a real piece of shit.

242 They overestimate the intellect of all of the "college educated." I myself have an advanced, professional degree and deal with a number of other highly educated people. I also deal with a number of highly skilled tradesmen who started out as an electrician, machinist, mechanic, etc who have now started their own businesses, and are kicking the financial asses of most of the "college educated."

While I understand the averages tend to favor those who get educated, those averages take into account the absolute down and out, drug addict types who also don't go to college.

People like Nichols and Rubin don't know any tradesmen or probably any small business owners, particularly in the trades. These people are no dummies and their smarts and skill at their trades and running their businesses has always immensely impressed me. Meanwhile, Nichols and Rubin are in this cloistered, political junkie circle jerk and are utterly clueless as to how these meanderings really look to most of America.

259 Rubin's comment illustrates the contempt for the tradesmen, technicians, and manufacturing workers that leads to unlimited illegal immigration and outsourcing. THESE Americans are unimportant, useless, and easily replaced by cheaper labor. If they were worth anything, they'd have gone to college and learned to think like a lib.

Most of the people spouting this BS never interacted with mechanics, manufacturing workers or plumbers in any way. They assume "stupidity", but should look in the mirror to see that.

I grew up in Michigan when the auto industry ruled the state, and not in an economically segregated suburb, but a smaller city where the kids of lawyers, factory owners, and doctors went to school with the ids of the people they employed. We didn't grow up with Rubin's assholean 'tude.

Was gonna say that they usually give auction estimates that are a bit high - they valued a collection of Chinese Chienlung jade at like $1.5M that went for closer to $650K, but that was also due to the market for Chinese stuff getting a bit weaker after it peaked in the late 00's.

There was a collection of stuff about the original 1871 Boston Red Stockings that got valued at close to $1.7M - I don't know if it ever went to auction.

I'm not saying any working class hero shit. I'm actual working class and sometimes it fucking sucks.

The good: I've made high five/low six figures some years.

The bad: I'm away from home for weeks and occasionally months at a time. I don't know anyone. I see family once, maybe twice a year. I work with ex-cons and druggies. The barrier to entry to most of these jobs is very low, which means you get a lot of people who can only clear very low entry bars.

My job has been dirty and dangerous. I was once trying to set a hydraulic cutter on a pipeline 240 under water with 1' of visibility. Cutter weighs 6000 pounds and is hanging on a boat crane and is surging up and down 6-8 feet every 15-20 seconds. There were times when that thing got ripped up over my head by a surge and I'm backpedaling and thinking 'please don't kill me please don't kill me'.

I'm not claiming college is useless. I am a college-educated professional and I don't think I'm useless because of it.

But I do think it is distressing that so many of our "elites" do seem to believe that everything but "college-educated" is sub-par and scary and bad. That isn't true any more than the reverse is.

It may be getting to the point that any humanities degree from an American institution is actually a red flag. That is *bad.* Education is important and education and job training are not the same thing (though we tend to conflate them in this country). That the colleges - at least the liberal arts - are becoming or have become a brainwashing exercise that destroys the mind and works manfully to put out neurotic communists with the hope that they destroy all that they touch is a cultural disaster.

And that's what these people mean when they say "college-educated." They use it as code for "right-thinking" and I am tired of it.

My brother just got sent off his last child this year. He remarked the cost was almost entirely based on income - at his income every school costs about $35k. No matter the list price, there are discounts or grants or whatever to bring it down to that figure. Harvard, the local state school... same thing.

The entire industry, and it is and industry, seems geared toward extracting the most money possible out of anxious parents.

337 So, for some reason, maybe someone pimping their academic resume or everyone glorifying the hs education, I was reminded of a funny story from hs.

Friend hated our English teacher. She was giving us spelling tests of obscure words every Monday. 343 Is it really that difficult to get a good education outside of college?
Education is something you need to do on an ongoing basis, your entire
life. What I learned in college is a tiny, tiny fraction of what I've
learned since on my own.

Same here. All I had to do was figure out how to learn, which took a while. Really all you need to do is read, IMO. It's kinda fun to do more in a classroom or lab setting with a bunch of other students, but even to do that you gotta read first.

Nothing, other than proving Trump's case that the inquiry into Burisma was warranted. Pleading the 5th would be worse than lying. Great headline the former, nobody is going to go digging around to eventually prove the lie - and the media won't air it if they found it.

Ask Schiff why the IC IG transcript wasn't submitted? If it's no big deal, let's see it. Or it is and not part?

Schiff, did you have contact with WB? If so and you said you didn't, why should we believe you now?

We're about to see the house managers shredded.

And Bolton? He'll take one for the team. He wants to be on MSNBC/CNN? BFD. He'll sit in the green room by himself.

It looks to me as if witnesses/no witnesses is kind of who cares? The needle isn't moving, & fewer & fewer people are watching. Trump's JA is reaching heights it hasn't seen since right after he was elected.

They can string this out aa long as they want, as far as I'm concerned. The GOP already got one new congressman out of it.

Trump's lawyers have already performed better in every dimension. Sadly, that may not matter much. Each senator in there is playing their own game with their own alliances and for their own objectives. If those don't line up - or if McConnell can't threaten them convincingly enough to make them fall into line - then the argument doesn't matter and the farce continues.

Sure. That's why he's still kind of on the fence. He's going to do what his focus groups tell him to do. If it's a tossup, though, he's going to go with his gut and try to screw the president.

The worst people are party people who feel the party owes them a job and yet didn't get one when Trump was elected. They've either switched allegiances in hopes of a plum job if the Democrats take the presidency in November, or they're sad, sad, sadly informing us the president should be removed for the good of the party.

The undeniable fact is that a truly educated man is both brain and body. "Mens sana in corpore sano" is not just a silly Latin saying. And it means more than health.

I wouldn't be able to read great literature or look at great art with the same appreciation if I did not have experience in both worlds.

That is the conceit of Nichols and his ilk, and I see much less of that on the other side.

Say there are 55 assholes on either side of the aisle who would vote to impeach or hide in the terlit during the vote (lookin' at Gardner here). 55 is less than 67.

What is stopping Pence and McConnell from saying, f--- you, we're voting on Thursday. We don't care if we 'lose'. Deus lo vult.

Did I? Shit. It's not my fault, I learned French by an aural/oral method and they were like oh you can figure out how to read and write on your own.

Also French is stupid.

I do a thing where I ask people to pronounce

appelle

applelles

appellents

and the joke is that they're all pronounced exactly the same. Je m'appelle, tu t'appelles, ils s'appellent.

Why? because French is stupid.

I'm surprised that this subthread is still going. No, I didn't learn most of what I know in college. Learning is a lifelong thing. I hope that some of what I learned was how to learn, which is the important bit.

Also people were annoying me.

459 Pelosi knew she couldn't get 67 but she's counting on getting a few Republicans to vote to remove.

And then she's counting on beating the traitors in their elections down the road. If she gets the Senate and keeps the House she might be able to finagle a double Impeachment and become President.

I know it's delusional but the Democrats' are nothing if they're not delusional.

463 My job has been dirty and dangerous.
Posted by: Vanya at January 28, 2020 06:06 PM (U7voe)

Would it be possible to prevent, or possibly eliminate the surging of the hoisted load by placing sea anchors at intervals on the hoisting line, and then spring-loading the crane boom or spool so the wave surge would be taken there?
