I think it was written up over at Federalist or somewhere that the Bolton leak does not say what the press is claiming it does, that they're into obfuscation and paraphrasing and selective quoting again as they've done all along.

I tend to think that the Democrats choosing the made-up charge of 'obstruction of Congress' was not accidental.
From Murder She Wrote to Law & Order and every police show in between, the popular culture frequently uses the phrase "obstruction of justice" to the point that it has permeated the vernacular. Obstruction of justice is always thrown in as an added charge.
Ask anyone you meet to complete the phrase "Obstruction of _______". What do you think will be the most common answer?
So then, as designed, obstruction of Congress (not an actual crime) now becomes conflated in many people's minds with obstruction of justice (an actual crime)

I'll defend him a little longer. There are two problems with firing all of them, and neither of those problems are related to whether they deserve it (they do).
1) He has been under investigation since day 0. Mueller. Crossfire Hurricane. Impeachment. Firing someone is suddenly obstruction. It's bullshit, of course, but mass firings of everyone who deserves it would tie him even more than he is now. Mueller came as a result of him firing one such deserving son of a bitch.
2) He can't get his own people in. The Senate never recesses and so he can't do recess appointments and most of his picks won't get confirmed. McConnell is great at ramming through judges but is happy to slow-walk political appointments. Now, it might be that it would be better to have vacancies but then it is just more swamp rats at a lower level who do the wrong things.
I am inclined to cut him a bit more slack on this particular topic. He hasn't been great on personnel in general to be sure, but he is also constrained like no prior president I know of.

Palin made the rookie mistake of believing the courts would be logical and fair. Lawsuits that should have been dismissed with the offending lawyers sanctioned and disbarred were allowed to continue.

The DEMs hated him about the most of any perceived rightwing figure BEFORE impeachment, & they will revert to that as soon as this is over.
From his personal standpoint, I'm not sure he thought this through completely.

Possibly but I think it was more a case of misjudging the enemy. Not many in this country knew what they were capable of at least until they started going after her family, which to that point in politics was always a no go zone. Was the law written *before* she was nominated?
If so who the hell could have seen anything like that coming? She had 90% approval in Alaska.
