The coup attempt is almost over.

The democrats have owned the field up to this point and in the end managed to burp their wad all over their precious new G.I.Joe bibs.

Now, finally, the grown ups get the stage.

Learning to code takes effort and somewhat more self-discipline than you are used to exerting Ms. Kelly, and a drill sergeant standing over you yelling only makes the learning process faster and more thorough. You'll thank him someday. Now, sit up straight, elbows in position, and show some self-respect. Start coding.

99 So more interesting development in the social experiment known as "Baltimore County continues to court city residents to relocate to the county"

Several more shootings and violent carjackings in recent hours.

Social media is aflame with folk wondering why the progressive County Executive has sought out creating a sanctuary County, as well as requiring landlords to accept Section 8 housing vouchers in the County.

People are actually beginning to publicly ask the right questions.

In the meanwhile, City cops are being ambushed for assault, and Police vehicles are being hit by thrown rocks.

rickl's sister Linda and her husband Mike and I went for a drink and shot the breeze for awhile.

They are two of the NICEST people I have ever met in my life.

Afterward we went back to rickl's house and went to the backyard and spread rickl's ashes over the graves of 2 of rickl's cats (that had died over the years) as per the request of rickl.

109 Some more thoughts from Dr. Henry Mercer who had a hospital/ sanitarium in the Finger Lakes Region of NY in the 19th century. It was for ill/ exhausted/depressed missionaries/teachers and clergy. Dr. Mercer also gave spiritual talks on faith and the Bible to people staying at the sanitarium and this is part of one of them:

Wherever we turn, we come face to face with mystery--not in our religion alone, but in every day and every hour of life, our very being is a mystery that taxes the mystery of existence itself. From God the Father to the smallest insect, to the smallest atom of life in this world, all is mystery. What God asks us to do is to accept the condition that we are in a world or mystery and settle ourselves upon the Word that what is now beyond our comprehension shall be solved by and by. In the rounds of eternal life, we will come to know more and more of God and his ways. His declarations, plans and purposes, will be explained. So if we do not understand today we need not be discouraged. It is enough that we are to have through eternity something that will be sweet employment, though we may never reach the depths, or height, or breadth of God's love or wisdom.

167 Wow:
Cindy McCain, the widow of late Sen. John McCain, blasted authorities
who were "afraid" to arrest convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein
even though everyone "knew" what he was doing.

"Epstein was hiding in plain sight," said Cindy McCain. "We
all knew about him. We all knew what he was doing, but we had no one
that was --- no legal aspect that would go after him. They were afraid of
him. For whatever reason, they were afraid of him." . . .
McCain said a girl from her daughter's high school was one of Epstein's victims and that she hopes Epstein "is in hell."

Her husband was OK with arming ISIS, meddling in Ukraine, and all in on making the 'peepee dossier' a thing to oust a duly elected president, but didn't do anything about Epstein? Go away, Cindy.

230 So the Dems closing argument has them telling the Republican senators Trump is a dictator who has threatened to put their heads on pikes if they vote against him?

As Insty notes, if Trump were a dictator, the people calling him that would be in unmarked graves. Or, more likely for the Dems, sucking up to him.

If Trump were a dictator:
Jimmy Carter would be certifiying his election as fair and honest
The NYT would endorse him
Twitter would ban CNN
YouTube would delete MSNBC videos without being asked
Facebook would promote news written by his staff for free
"Resist" merchandise and pussy hats would get you fired and maybe beaten in the street
The NBA would run goodwill tours for him
Schools would release early on days of his speech or show them in general assembly

That's what the left does for real dictators, for free, without being asked.

IIRC, they had the presidents of both Planned Parenthood and NARAL speak one night of the convention (and yes, likened it to doing the work of saints), and they rejected mentioning god in their party platform three times. That is, it was rejected, and someone who was aware of the optics of doing that tried to get God back in there twice, and failed. It was an ugly spectacle.

Then they can work their way up to the cooking thread, art thread, etc. and then, after a year or two, the ONT.

The art thread? That's almost as raunchy as the ONT!

268 Just tried to dry off my car after visiting the DIY car wash. It's 48 F., and the air is still so damp that the car's surfaces just mist over after wax-as-you-dry passes. Oh, well, it's gonna rain tonight, so . . .

Did you use a chamois, or try slapping hot iron to it?
Posted by: GnuBreed at January 25, 2020

Neither. I use a drying cloth from Griot's Garage, and then I usually go back over with a cotton towel to finish up.

I had the reverse when I passed through Archer City, TX, in 2014. It was May, about 11:30 am. I stopped at the DIY car wash on the main street to rinse the dust that had accumulated since I left Amarillo off the car. The surfaces dried almost before I could finish wiping them down!

My Instant Pot sat on a shelf for a year and a half while I worked up the nerve to try it. Yup, it's idiot-proof...except for that pressure release valve, which will scald your fingers every chance it gets. Otherwise, this thing's here to stay.

Anybody seen my legs?

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at January 25, 2020 09:10 AM (DHNlU)

298 Well this one isn't as quick and simple as the Brussels Sprouts on (which I'll save for the Food Thread, since I know some members of the Horde like Brussels Sprouts) but the bacon cabbage and apple one is still easy so here goes:

Use the Saute function on the Instant Pot to cook 8 oz of diced bacon in 2 tbsp. butter. That takes about 10 minutes or whenever the bacon is crispy. Then use a slotted spoon to remove the bacon (leaving the bacon grease in the Instant Pot) and set the bacon aside. Put 1 head of cabbage (cored and sliced into 1/2 pieces) 1 large white onion (thinly sliced) 1 medium Gala apple (cored and thinly sliced) 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar, 1/2 tsp. salt and black pepper to taste in the pot, seal and select Pressure Cook, high pressure for 10 minutes. After cooking and venting, add the bacon. Makes 6 servings.

Unless I change my mind at the last minute, which is always possible,

I'll be cooking -

Red Snapper Veracruz

with

Arroz Verde (that's green rice, y'all)

Using Diana Kennedy's recipes, which pretty much guarantee a perfect dish every time.

Assuming you follow the recipe.

No Instant Pot involved!

Posted by: naturalfake at January 25, 2020 09:13 AM (T+nBE)

301 Oh yeah, after your're done cooking the bacon, press the cancel button to turn off the saute function. Add all the other stuff to the pot and then turn on the pressure cooker.
