The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

"I'm writing this on Sunday night, and social media is all abuzz about material from a book John Bolton is supposedly writing about how it confirms the Ukrainian quid pro quo.

"I'm not going to bother reading any further. I know it's fake news.

"I mean seriously, c'mon, if the quid pro quo hoax was true, they wouldn't have had to wait to find in un an unpublished book, even one written by John Bolton.

"All based on anonymous sources.

"Right.

"Remember the big bombshell about a depressed Trump stumbling around the White House in his bathrobe, chugging Diet Coke & watching the Gorilla Channel?

"Remember how the Mueller Report was going to be the end of Trump? The wheels are closing in and all that?

"And it was all fake.

"Couple possibilities here: this could be a "canary trap" where Trump would have caused this information to be known by one suspect (and no one else), and if gets leaked to the press, they know who the leaker is.

"Another possibility is that journalists are a roomful of cats, and Trump is a prankster with a laser pointer and they're jumping all over each other trying to get that infernal red dot, which keeps disappearing mysteriously and reappearing on the opposite wall.

"But we'll get it this time, the journalists yowl. Oh look, it's over there. Come on, boys, after it!

"And the laughter is Trump as he tucks into his second scoop of ice cream."

You can claim anything you want about a public figure in a book and its nearly impossible to get nailed for libel. Just because you may have worked with them briefly doesn't make it true or reliable.

Related everyone is laughing at the "But Trump said to fire her!" audio freakout, like he's not allowed to fire someone.

103 Our side is making a mistake in allowing "quid pro quo" to be turned into something inherently wrong. ALL diplomacy involves some quid pro quo. That's baked in. E.g., 50 destroyers for 99 year leases in Brit bases.

In fact, it's involved in almost all politics, except where the agents are truly on the same page.

Even though this tactic may work this time - I expect it will - we'll pay down the road. We always do for every slip we make.

126 It's a shame that we've never seen the real Tarzan, the character that Burroughs brought to life, on screen. Each actor has had some of the required traits, but usually not all. Looking at a list, I guess Lex Barker had the right look, and so did Ron Ely. Herman Brix (aka Bruce Bennett) was apparently good too -- at least they made the later Tarzans educated men instead of the "Tarzan have many animal friends" style of speech.

Tarzan, of course, is such a larger-than life character that it's almost impossible to find someone who embodies everything that makes him Tarzan.

137 57, Jackstraw, Some folks worry too much about everything, others do not worry enough. However, most things are not as bad as they appear at first glance but not as good as we would like to believe.

In the case of Bolton, there was a reason he was not regarded a team player and he is loyal most of all to himself. Bureaucratic infighting as practiced in DC is full of people that use sharp elbows, putting cronies in as support staff, and strategic leaks to climb the greasy pole by winning policy foodfights. Bolton was one of these critters.

So Bolton was using Trump to get what he wanted and Trump was using Bolton--probably to get some deadwood to leave the NSC and play bad cop in NK and Iran situations. Due to past credentials via the Bushies, Bolton was acceptable to the folks on Capitol Hill as a known quantity. His temperament meant that he was always going to crash and burn at some point and I believe Trump took advantage of it to suit his needs.

172 Few people in show business have the chops (or the courage) to deliberately parody themselves, and Mature did it with gusto. Dude was fearless.

For some actors, its just a job, like Nick Cage and Michael Caine. They do whatever role they are given and try to have fun doing it, and do not fret about art or how people will think of them. It pays the bills.

173 I've also heard that Bolton's representatives have said today that they
neither admit or deny that the above statement is in the book.

=====

None of the 'Bolton' stuff makes sense to me, so I'll just wait. Really can't wrap my head around someone torpedoing their total career for small book sales rather than a 'definitive' analysis that would sell forever.

This story is, however, useful because I discovered that the Ukrainian twins are deeply embedded in NSC affairs. Scary thought.

they extend this to continue to cover up the great economy and successes of Trump

This is all purposeful distraction and character tainting. This is what they've got and they will continue to do this all the way until election day.

I also want to know if Republicans agree to bring in witnesses( I believe I heard a while back that Clinton's impeachment trial had no witnesses, as all witnesses had been deposed in the House investigation. So the Senate is being led to this farce by two idiot Senators, Collins and Romney) will they demand to hear from Joe and Hunter Biden?

176 >>Jackstraw, Some folks worry too much about everything, others do not worry enough. However, most things are not as bad as they appear at first glance but not as good as we would like to believe.

Worry is pointless. Information, prior actions and trusting your own instincts over a media that does nothing but lie 7 x 24 is the way to go. I have a lot more trust in Trump and his ability to outsmart Chuck, Nancy, Schiff and Fat Nadler. You don't survive and thrive in the world of NY commercial real estate by being outsmarted by people who are constantly scheming against you.

And sometimes that willingness to keep on working leads to a long career, and recognition for their talent. Robert Vaughn, for instance, said that he parlayed his 15 minutes of fame into a 50-year career, partly because he had the view that he was a working actor, not a "star" or anything that exalted. His recognition came early, in a 1959 Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination.

Michael Caine has been gracing our screens since the early 1960s (Zulu! I think was his first big role), and he's never thought of himself as a star, but he clearly is.

The spacing (gap inherent in rubber) of a latex condom is about 5 microns.

Posted by: rhennigantx at January 27, 2020 10:55 AM (JFO2v)

So why don't health care workers wearing latex gloves all contract
aids when handling bodily fluids such as saliva, etc. from AIDS
patients.
---
There's a thing called surface pressure for fluids, The vira don't travel on their own but in the fluid. Basically this means they can go from one fluid to another through a cell membrane, but can't travel through a mm of latex, even if they could fit through the holes in it, because the fluid can't travel through the latex.

This is how condoms work, basically. They can't stop the stuff in the fluid, but they stop the fluid, which is good enough. (If you think about it, water molecules are quite tiny, much smaller than the vira, yet they don't go through either.)

218 176, Jackstraw,

Devil's advocate question---How would we know whether or not DJT was worried or even faking being worried? The only sources we have might not be accurate after all.

The predictable last minute crap is done to step on DJT's Defense, tie up the Senate some more in delays, try to use the issue as a wedge to get Rep. Senators in tough states in trouble, and give the Dem compatriots in the media something else to talk about rather than the tawdry failure of the House Impeachment managers.
In the end, I am not worried about the removal but rather the wasted opportunities in judges, etc.

It also takes concentration from the drip drip drip of Democratic misconduct in office regarding FBI abuses, NSA intercept abuses, etc. For the Dems, win win, for the Republicans, more time on defense rather than offense.

Most absurd, Trump trying to stop a coup, to drain the swamp ... damn right Trump should have called code red, if that means revealing the Biden (and others) corruption, rooted in Ukraine. General rule is, any girl who is all three is smart enough to retire pretty quickly. I doubt the girls get royalties for their acting even if their producers get them. In any case 'hot' is highly negotiable, probably most girls that can act can 'be hot' too. The main requirement for the business is 'willingness to perform [x] acts on camera.'

Afaik, the origins of the business was some New York man of a certain demographic filming a stripper and selling the tapes. I don't know if it's still true, but the demographic of actresses is basically strippers. Based on weird anecdotes I've heard, in addition to whatever else that entails, it probably means a larger proportion of women who are autistic.

In terms of life choices for strippers, it really beats being sex trafficked.

McConnell is a canny operator and I am sure that they knew Bolton's stuff was out there--the book date, the NSC review, etc. I am also sure that DJT's team knew about it before the reveal and know exactly what is in Bolton's book. A lot of this stuff is basic game theory of messaging and narrative wars.

Answer, as hard as it may be, wait and see. The whole Hunter Biden thing is more or less a blind and a threat to Senators that their honest graft might be a collateral casualty of witnesses. I believe that the real DJT play on witnesses is to get to Atkinson and Ciarmerella if the Republicans need to call witnesses. They give up Schiff most probably which sinks the Dems because the crisis was manufactured whole cloth by them.

On the evening of December 13, 1944, Vélez dined with her two friends, the silent film star Estelle Taylor and Venita Oakie.[56] In the early morning hours of December 14, Vélez retired to her bedroom, where she consumed 70 Seconal pills and a glass of brandy.[57] Her secretary, Beulah Kinder, found the actress's body on her bed later that morning.[58] A suicide note addressed to Harald Ramond was found nearby.
