80 Since the painting includes both a pole and some conversationally great asses, I'll presume it's not OT before 100 to note that I was surprised that Fenelon does not yet endorse a Pole Dance Ministry.

Pole Dancing is probably about to become an Olympic sport, and they keep telling me that there are artistic ways to appreciate it without "prurient interest." I think the absence of one- and two- dollar bills gives something away. Call it an "offering."

91 Maybe I'm missing some 'inner' message with this painting. Aside from achieving accurate colors for the sky and concrete areas, the background is not noteworthy. The only points of interest are the forms of the women, especially the ones in the foreground: different ages, varied figures (butt on the third from left and bewbs on the young mother), different colored clothing against the static water.

Perhaps it should have been called "The Females".

213 So I was way off on the date. No where close to the '80s. Pfft. 1942. That explains the absence of males.

I'm guessing it's an American work. Very red, white and blue. Everywhere. The sky is cloudless and bright, the concrete gleams in the sun and is modern and new. The water is clean-ish. And three generations are represented in the foreground, with a young child--the future--over to the side. But the child is removed and downplayed. The concentration is on the now. The concrete and skid marks also could represent industry and modernity that helped the US in the war effort. The actual presence of the factory in the far background also does this. But there's no dank smoke from the factory itself. The artist wants nothing to darken the mood of the piece.

If it's an American piece then I see only optimism here, even so near Pearl Harbor. I wonder if Midway happened yet, possibly the Dolittle Raid. The American spirit has been ignited. This work is quite patriotic.

Posted by: Dan Smoot's Apprentice at January 24, 2020 09:51 AM (H8QX

________

THIS is the $64 trillion question now. The Left is like The Terminator now: "It can't be bargained with, it can't be
reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear, and it
absolutely will not stop. Ever. Until you are dead."

I could never have imagined as a young boy growing up in the 60's and 70's how our republic has declined in virtually every way -- or that it would be intentional. I thought Reagan's admonition that "Freedom is never more than one generation away" was hyperbolic and laughable ... yet here we are.
The limit will be when most have nothing left to lose -- which depends on the majority's definition of freedom. My wife and I refuse to participate in or pay the penalty of DeathCare on principle. I will refuse to surrender my firearms and a lot of other freedoms -- and will fight back at the risk of death to protect them.

What's most depressing is: I'm not sure the majority of the country now is with us, but hold out hope that a majority is not necessary (like in the American Revolution).

Given how many people travel to and from China today, it was only a matter of time before we saw cases here.

362 293, Tom Servo, the problem is the magic dirt theorem that holds all the world's peoples are Americans, they just do not know it yet. Politics and administration is downstream from culture and culture is far more resistant to change over time.

Even the Romans found that the conquered, when brought to Rome, changed Rome and Roman mores as much if not more than Rome changed the conquered.

Puerto Rico's culture is Hispanic and has been so for centuries before the Spanish American War. Compared with other countries in the region, Puerto Rico is probably one of the better ones regarding government corruption and misfeasance but those Puerto Ricans dissatisfied with the culture of clientelism leave to the States and the remainder either do not care or benefit from the status quo.

The ready solution is letting them go and be independent as we do not need naval coaling and oiling stations anymore and if we did, there are other places or treaties with other countries that would probably be cheaper in the long run.

Thomas Brackett Reed aka Boss Reed was right in that the imperialism implied in the Spanish American War would fundamentally change our republic. For example, the rot did not set in on the Roman Republic until it went adventuring abroad and became an Empire.

Imperialism changes the nature of the citizens from independence to servility and the benefits available to the ruling classes from invade the world, invite the world corrupts them to believe that is the normal state of affairs.

Let Puerto Rico go and run its own affairs without being bailed out by Congress for fun and profit to the ruling classes in Puerto Rico and Washington.

445 In The River, Louis Guglielmi depicted female figures alongside an expanse of blue water. Hemmed in by the monolithic concrete riverbank, with an industrial landscape in the distance, the natural flow of water seems controlled and possibly reshaped. The expressions of the three women standing in the foreground are concealed from the viewer, contributing to the sense of ambiguity created by the vivid contrast between the natural and man-made landscapes. Commenting on The River, one critic noted that Guglielmi "interprets the relationship of man to his city environment. Often more profound than social consciousness, his work somehow suggests the theme of man oppressed by his own great triumphs."

The trivia section for the film on IMDb says that Miguel Ferrer wanted to play Flagg, but that King wanted someone the audience was not familiar with. I thought Jamey Sheridan (who later showed up on some of the Law and Order franchises) did a good job. After all, Flagg was supposed to be charming, in a dark way, when it suited his purposes, and Sheridan captured that.

But what if he did the same to New York State instead? Which would benefit the U.S. more? Our focus needs to be at home which is why the ruling class is horrified.

First, they have empathy for the "other" but hate their fellow Americans and hate the idea that these fellow Americans share sovereignty by voting. The hatred comes from 'religious' convictions of who is good and who is bad.

Thus, a son of a IRGC thug that has killed and oppressed the Iranian and other people in the Mideast provokes major wailing because orangemanbad and obama iran policy good while an unemployed steelworker in Youngstown that commits suicide is ignored by silence because the ruling class wanted to boost China's economic growth and gathered riches because of it (see Amash, Judas).

Thanks for the info. Last November, my optometrist informed me that I was a candidate for cataract surgery. A week later, a tooth was giving me trouble. Went to the dentist (for the first time in many, many years) and I now have two new crowns, a root canal, and a filling. ++++++++++++
That strikes me as extreme. Spaceway-1 was launched 15 years ago. Space is a brutal environment and this thing has been up there doing its job for a long time. It has been relegated to backup service anyway and still has enough control to be de-orbited and destroyed.

A malfunction in a geostationary machine after 15 years of service doesn't strike me as a catastrophe. Of course, I didn't pay hundreds of millions or a billion dollars for it, so it is easy for me to say that...

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 24, 2020 11:20 AM (I2dne)

555

The problem with Boeing's Spaceway-1 satellite is that they had to move the engines forward on the wing which required a pure fly-by-wire system to maintain stability, and the software was all developed in software labs located above food markets in Wuhan China staffed by illegal Indians code pirates leading to the satellite becoming unstable when ever it crosses over Hindu communities.

Tragic, really.

Mine was done with the knife, too, and I got the same canned warning. Only complication, and it's fairly commonplace, is might right eye grew hazy owing to a buildup of some sort of film on the backside of the lens capsule. It was an easy fix: I sat in the chair, doc put some drops in my eye to dilate the pupil, stuck in a special contact lens, and then sapped the film with a green laser. Painless, 5 minute procedure. Instant improvement. I will probably need the left eye done next Fall, too. Once zapped, the film does not regrow, apparently.

Had the cataract procedure done last year. One eye in April, the other in June. Piece of cake. The routine with the drops is the most troublesome part of it. The actual surgery takes maybe 5 to 10 minutes, local anaesthetic, and is painless. Immediately afterward, I knew I could see better.

Do NOT stress out about it. Having a tooth filled is way more discomfort.
