Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Both Bush and Obama Passed On Opportunities to Kill SuleimaniI imagine Obama passed because, of course, he was too busy colluding with them and sending them billions of dollars in ransom. Bush passed on killing him, I imagine, because he got us stuck in a can't-move-forward, can't-get-out quagmire in Iraq and could not risk alienating public opinion further by appearing to widen the war. (Although, of course, this would have merely been a silly perception; Iran was already our primary opponent in the War in Iraq.) Trump did what neither of these presidents had the nerve, or desire (in Obama's case), to do.Thursday night wasn’t the first time a U.S. President has had IRGC Gen. Qasem Soleimani in their crosshairs. Both President George W. Bush and President Obama passed up chances to kill him. ... The first came in 2007. Gen. Stanley McChrystal was serving as the head of the Joint Special Operations Command at the time. During an interview last year, he said, “At the time, Iranian-made roadside bombs built and deployed at his command were claiming the lives of U.S. troops across Iraq.” Bush and his military commanders would not authorize the action. McChrystal said they wanted “to avoid a firefight, and the contentious politics that would follow.” The next occasion was about a year later. This story was revealed in 2015 by a former U.S. official. Badran explains the scenario. "During the operation to assassinate Hezbollah’s senior military commander, Imad Mughniyeh, in Damascus in 2008, Soleimani was present with Mughniyeh."As for Obama's chance: Well, he never said no to killing Soleimani. Instead, what he did -- according to a Kuwaiti newspaper -- was inform Teheran of a coming Israeli strike on Soleimani, deliberately spoiling the Israelis' shot. I'd like a collusion investigation into that. I realize the president's foreign policy cannot be a criminal offense (something NeverTrumpers and Democrats (but I repeat myself) have lately forgotten), but it's important to know if a past president has been deliberately alerting the keystone of the global antiUS terrorist movement that our allies are planning to kill a terrorist leader. That's something we should know, right? By the way: We got another one.

If Iran has a nuke, it will only be regionally relevant in all probability - they don't have any ICBMs and it's hard for them to deliver one here otherwise. In-region, they could nuke Israel or they could nuke one of their neighbors. Either would bring down absolute destruction on them, likely in the form of nuclear retaliation that ends Iran. It's funny how some are calling the killing of Suleimani an "assassination" and was against the law. Does that mean the killing of Osama was an assassination as well? This was an Iranian general involved in terrorist and destabilizing actions, and was killed. Hey, guys on the left: tell me how this was different than killing Osama? The general was responsible for 17% of US soldier deaths in Iraq (IEDs), and was planning more death an mayhem. Good riddance.

In 2006, my unit was stationed on FOB Warrior in Kirkuk, Iraq. We were working under a BCT from the 101st Airborne. One of the assignments we were given was to conduct surveillance on a given village sheik. He was a former Ba'athist and Sunni Saddam ally who had been moved up north with his tribe to act as unofficial muscle for the regime in Shiite and Kurdish country.
So we send out a surveillance team and see him meeting with a known insurgent. We scramble, roll into town hot and heavy and grab the dude. Great job! Let's drag this... ...What? ...Seriously? We totally just... ...Anyway, Col. Gray of the 101st-- may he drown in hobo dickcheese and piss-- had decreed that we were not to lay hands on this sheik, his wife, or his kid, all of whom were in this same shit up to their necks. So we dragged in the insurgent guy, who turned out to be a double BTW, so we didn't even get the real one, and left this guy in place. Few weeks later they send us back. My team in on surveillance this time and whaddaya know, here comes Colonel Redacted. Colonel Redacted is former Republican Guard and has been involved with the insurgency for years. Take pictures. Call it in. Wait for the cavalry. And wait. And wait. Finally two Kiowas show up and begin circling the village. Sheik and Colonel Redacted load up into a car and boogie. We ask for permission to chase them down. Denied. They drive away into the dark. We go home. If that's how you're running a war, why even fucking bother? Bush versus Obama - I'd point out a couple of differences
1) Bush probably thought he had all he could handle with Afghanistan and Iraq. Adding Iran to the list probably seemed like a bridge too far. Obama - really no excuse at all. 2) I very much doubt Bush would have prevented someone else from taking the shot, like Israel. Obama totally would have played the spoiler. That Iranian general was certainly a ballsy fucker. He really didn't think anyone could touch his ass. He could do whatever he wanted, no one would do a thing about it. Orchestrate an attack on the American embassy in another country, then walk around the airport like a fucking boss, taking meetings. Sorry but...16 years or so...yeah he got away with his silly shit. Look, just getting this guys to have to plan, carefully, their movements slows everything down. Posted by: Inspector Kemp at January 03, 2020 06:45 PM (+DS2f) 307

No. The EU bien-pensants have decided that they'd rather submit (their children, mostly) to the Muz Mob than to (a) be seen as proclaiming the cultural superiority of the post-Enlightenment West (which, like the biological bases of gender, is pretty much a given if you're sane) and (b) stop taking Mideast money. Which Iraq war you talkin' about, ace? The one I experienced indeed had an astonishing amount of misinformed unserious trouser-soiling and whining by much of the populace ..... but "moved ahead" quite a bit within a year of 2007.
Against the advice of almost the entire Beltway establishment, and notwithstanding the whining, he "moved ahead" and finally dismissed the pathetic military advice and management he'd tolerated for far too long, and things moved ahead rather quickly. So yeah he should have ignored the whining, if that were the factor, to try and get Soli then - and should have absolutely been doing more important things like hitting the IRGC field guys in Iran, not just in Iraq, where it was happening. And WE got Mugniyeh? This would be a big reveal if true. Posted by: rhomboid at January 03, 2020 06:57 PM (El6T/) 379

"I realize the president's foreign policy cannot be a criminal offense."
Wrong Ace. This is EXACTLY what the impeachment provision was put in for, and why it specifies TREASON as a grounds for impeachment. We were and still are in a declared war against "those who attacked us on 9/11," and in a declared war with Iraq. Soleimani was implicated as an enemy in both. Remember that grounded airliner on Iranian territory used to train hijackers? And Soleimani was providing shaped explosives to our Shiite and Sunni enemies in Iraq. Helping him was aiding and abetting the enemy in a declared war. The founder's feared that such treason could come about through bribery. That's why bribery is in the impeachment clause. In Obama's case it is because he is an ecumenical Islamofascist, as determined to help Iran get The Bomb as he was to side with MB/ al Qaeda in every arena (Egypt, Libya, Syria, Iraq, etcetera). The president is NOT allowed to aid and abet enemies in a declared war. He can hang for that, fully under the Constitution. Posted by: Alec Rawls at January 03, 2020 07:57 PM (wh9C3) 433

If we are tagging targets in places like Iraq and Yemen, that means the US is rolling forward on a wide variety of targeted assassinations and arrests of IRGC/ QF and Hezbollah leaders throughout the region. Trump's not gonna wait for the dirty necked galoots to make the next move. Look for reports out of Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, Kuwait, even Libya over the next week. Perhaps even look for a rolling up of IRGC/ QF Hezbollah agents in the United States and even in Western Europe. This is the day that he settles all family business.
