Church Shooter Identified

Get ready for a shock -- he's a repeat felon who should have still been in jail.

The man who fatally shot two people at a White Settlement Church on Sunday before being killed by church security has been identified as a 43-year-old Keith Thomas Kinnunen, a River Oaks man with a criminal record, according to two law enforcement sources.

Kinnunen is believed to have been wearing a disguise, including a fake beard, when he stood up, pulled a shotgun from his clothing and opened fire inside the church...

The disguise tells me he intended to flee and escape, rather than just dying in the midst of his rampage. And that maybe he knew about the church's videocameras.

Earlier I quoted a cop, via CNN, saying that this guy was a "transient" with few or no roots in the area. But I misread that quote -- he did have roots in the area, so this could have been personal after all.

The FBI is working to identify the shooter's motive. Matthew DeSarno, the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Dallas field office, said the gunman was "relatively transient," but had roots in the area.

He was a repeat felon:

Kinnunen had a criminal record in Tarrant County including charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2009 and theft of property in 2013.

This seems like it might indicate some kind of prior terrorist intent:

Kinnunen also was arrested in September 2016 for possession of an illegal weapon in Linden, New Jersey, after he was found taking pictures outside an oil refinery, according to news reports at the time.

The media isn't seizing and pouncing on him as a right wing extremist, which makes me think, as the hours pass, that he's likely one of their own.

The longer we go without the media claiming he's a Trump voter, the higher the odds that he's a Rachel Maddow Superfan.

Meanwhile, a friend says they media will now attempt to dig up nasty stuff about Jack Wilson, the hero who took out this trash.

Why? Because he used his gun lawfully and for a good purpose, and because he says he's glad he ended an "evil."

You can't call mass murderers "evil" -- that kind of dehumanizing language is reserved only for Trump supporters.

[Jack] Wilson was hailed as a hero by local law enforcement officials after stopping a gunman who killed two members of the congregation in the town of White Settlement, deacon Anton “Tony” Wallace and fellow security team member Richard White. Wilson, who owns a gun range, told NBC News on Monday that he was still grappling with the death of his two friends and concerns for the close-knit congregation.

"I don’t feel like I killed a human, I killed an evil and that’s how I’m coping with the situation," Wilson said.

I'm sure Buzzfeed, Vox, and the Fun Bunch at CNN are already conducting an extensive Routine Social Media Background Check on this guy, hoping to find any pretext to call him a Nazi.

Meanwhile, a prior Joe Biden bloviation is getting a fresh look:

On top of that, not everything translates well from theater to film, especially now that filmmakers are so obsessed with using CGI that they don't give a shit about story, making sense or even alienating the audience. I think some directors think they can 'spectacle' the viewer to death, which is BS but they keep trying.

30 He was probably using a "shockwave" which is a 12 ga firearm that is relatively new. His "extensive" criminal record did not show any felon convictions or disqualifying reasons that would keep him from legally getting a gun. There was a mention that the guy had gotten free meals at the church and was mad they wouldn't give him money. That may be the "motive" other than he was crazy. But the right guy was in the right place when this went down. 6 seconds to stop the shooter. The head cop said his officers were on scene within a minute. I doubt that but even then, how many could the madman taken out in a minute. Good preparation permits good performance.

34 Props to the cops for tipping their hat to the man who saved the day, instead of falling back on that "you need to wait for the professionals to take care of it" nonsense.

But indeed, how many warnings does the system need? Sadly, TX has elected a few more "soft on crime" DAs. So this means the cops aren't going to bother with a lot of criminals - why should they, if the case will be dismissed out of hand? (Remember, the Dallas DA wholeheartedly endorses theft just so long as it's less than $750.) I don't blame them if their efforts won't lead to anything. And then the problem of crime will begin to take off...

We need far more concealed carriers out there to mitigate those effects. Besides, even IF there were ZERO problems with the cops, and the DAs can be trusted to do their jobs, and the system worked well - the cops cannot be everywhere, all the time. We don't have the Stasi yet.

There are, or were, directors who could make fantastic spectacles of movies. I saw that as a kid, and so started watching out of nostalgia. But after a while I realized that the movie was actually engaging: it had a plot, a story arc, development of characters, dramatic tension, the lot. No CGI, no car chases, no profanity, no PC crap, just entertainment.

It was kind of refreshing, actually. And that from a Saturday matinee-type movie.

Sometimes what works in the theater doesn't translate to film. A Case in point would be Little Shop of Horrors.

In the stage production the plant kills Audrey and and Seymour and takes over the world. When they filmed that ending and showed it to test audiences, they hated it. Its director noted that in the theater, the actors come out for a curtain call and you see they aren't dead. Not so for a film.

Rapists don't do time, most o the time. Or they do very little time. I'll bet most of you didn't know that.

197 Cats is the movie musical no one asked for.

Apparently there are sections where the CGI is so lazy, that they never added the fur texture. Ran out of time and money.

The skintight catsuits and fur and makeup was part of what made it so interesting. Why they felt they had to screw up that iconic look and turn to CGI I will never understand. If you are doing that much CGI, just make them animated cats.

Yes it absolutely was.
However you left out the part where they parked the truck under the overpass, and then one of the guys pressed the button for the detonator and it doesn't go off. Because it wasn't real C4. But they thought it was real, and they meant to blow up the overpass. Which because of the overpass they chose, would have been unfixable for over a year and would have seriously screwed up travel if they had there way.

The driver was obviously long gone (I only found out from news reports that it was a woman; I couldn't tell), and while struggling to open the bent passenger side door a little bloody hand reached up to the slightly cracked open window. I almost had a heart attack, but we got the kid out successfully, and he recovered.

He died for his church family. The woman who recognized the killer wore a disguise should have said something immediately. Most of us damn sure would have (and might have stopped this before all the bloodshed). The member of the congregation who put a bullet in this evil bastard's head did some righteous shooting. And he wasted no words saying exactly what he did. He killed evil and it don't bother him too much. I suppose many of us here would feel the same way. As to being armed in church, I've said here before that next to my blood kin my church family are most precious to me. I will do everything in my power to protect them.

The place is huge (as most refineries are) and surrounded by a chain link fence topped with barbed wire. There are a couple of guarded gates, but they are unarmed. And the barbed wire is fashioned so as to prevent escape-from rather than entrance-into the refinery.

Exactly. If he was an "outlier", he'd be investigated and talked about to this day as being so far outside the norm.

The fact that it went so dark and quiet so quick speaks volumes.

432 386 Watching the neighbors shoot skeet.
It's a clown show.
Either she is gonna pelt him in the head with one of them or he is going to shoot her by mistake.

Not a lot of gun safety going on over there.

To complete the fun, they need to take a shot of Jack each time someone misses.

434 I recomend that the criminal's severed head be displayed in front of the church on a stake to serve as a warning to others.

437 Musicals just plain suck.

Circa 1985, if you were in West Germany and were cursed with AFN, all they showed on Sunday afternoons for a time were musicals. Watching them as a young lad, I did not get them. Seriously. When going about my everyday life, do I break out into song about something I'm doing while a bunch of strangers start dancing in perfect choreography?

I remember being subject to West Side Story in HS, hearing the teacher gush almost to the point of orgasm about "oh, the choreography!!!" I was watching, thinking to myself "I don't get it."

Even better in HS was, the week before the end of that horrendous experience, my senior English class was subject to Grease, which was then subject (briefly, but my teacher - great guy - indulged my mischief) to my MSTing the thing.
