Democrats Unveil Two Frivolous, Focus-Grouped Articles of Fake Impeachment

The term the Democrats found tested best with focus groups -- "bribery" -- is absent from the articles of fake impeachment. I guess it doesn't play in Peoria. Oh, and as mentioned in the sidebar: CNN has a tearjerker report that James Comey's mother-in-law fears for his legal peril, because Trump calls him (accurately) a dirty cop.
House Democrats on Tuesday introduced two articles of impeachment against President Trump alleging abuse of power and obstruction of Congress regarding his interactions with Ukraine, touching off a rapid-fire sequence that could result in a momentous floor vote in a matter of days. "The framers of the Constitution prescribed a clear remedy for presidents who so violate their oath of office," said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y. "No one, not even the president, is above the law." His office later posted text of the articles, which declare Trump's actions warrant impeachment, trial and removal from office. The White House swiftly hit back, accusing Democrats of using the Ukraine issue as an excuse for "this partisan, gratuitous, and pathetic attempt to overthrow the Trump Administration and the results of the 2016 election."

My guess: After the Dems present their case, during which Trump's attorneys and all Senators can question the Dem witnesses, the defense will rest without calling witnesses or presenting evidence, and McConnell will hold the convict/acquit vote. Assuming McConnell is dead-sure he's got 51 votes to acquit, and hopefully all 53 R Senators voting acquit. What better way to demonstrate the Democrats have no case?

Yes. You see half the country believing you can impeach for nothing now. Just out of hate. There is no understanding whatsoever. The Senate may block it, yes, but that did not stop the Democrats from impeaching from whole cloth and voters believing it to be true.
Of course we could use it on Democrats. Doesn't mean it is not cheapened. The more it is used, the more it will feel cheap. It is supposed to be used only on rare occasions - and it should be bipartisan.
Party line impeachment is a cheap trick. Regardless of how the Senate eventually votes.
Impeachment has flipped the House before. It hasn't stopped them from using it again.

Not always, but the situation needs to be very different.
A president who goes from winning election to being so utterly toxic to the American people within a couple of years. Far enough from the next election that the idea of waiting is something the American people can't abide.
However, with how partisanship functions (not just now, but pretty much since the beginning of the Republic) it takes a whole lot to convince one side that they've made a mistake on their own president.

Similar to how the law would be damaged if a court held a trial for murder, with the supposed victim very much alive and sitting on a throne in the actual courtroom, and the judge ruled that no evidence could be introduced or considered that would indicate that a murder never happened.

Actually, no. There is no Legal Definition in Statute about Obstruction of Congress.
There is Obstruction of Justice, which ALL Fed Gov agencies (including Congress) are covered by.
And there is Contempt of Congress, which happens when Congress subpoenas you and you don't respond or answer their questions.
But this has not been really litigated against the Executive Branch Executive Privilege.
So, to recap, there is no Law against Obstruction of Congress, and there is no Law about Abuse of Power.
So I see no Crime nor Misdemeanor, high or otherwise here.

Anecdotal, I know, but the collar counties around Cook have gone purple-blue. For many years, they were a counterweight to Chicago/Cook.
The only representative ads I have seen are for (D) health care. None of the other stuff. Ryan dismissed even the moderates (RINO in our parlance) and walked away with his own swag. Despite the Eeyore-ism here yesterday, that report was a huge deal. The IG found wrong-doing and actual fabrication of evidence by the FBI on applications for FISA warrants. It may not be a crime for those jackasses to lie to us but it very much is for them to lie to the courts.
I hope their wrong-doing has the judge throw out the plea deal and also dismiss the charges against Flynn.

In what way did he obstruct anything? They control the House of Representatives. They are holding hearings. No one is stopping them. He was on the Trump team, and a couple of Ukrainians released a 'black book' containing 'evidence' of illegal payments to him.
Note, the Black Book is so tainted they won't even use it in their own courts, but it was enough to force Manafort out of working on the campaign, AND was used as the pretext for Mueller to reopen the investigation on him, until they found SOMETHING he did (supposedly lied on a Loan Application).
There is TAPE where one of the Ukrainians ADMITS they did it to help Hillary.

It very well could in the House. Less impact in the Senate. No impact on the Presidential vote.
If anything will move votes on Trump, it'll be 1.) if the economy remains strong, and 2.) the general insanity of the nominee's policy positions.
Trump voters will keep on liking him, Trump haters will keep on hating him, people in the middle won't be moved one way or another by impeachment - except for Trump-friendly Dems in the swing states, who may decide to punish their reps for it. But they'd vote Trump anyway.
I think we've about hit the wall on how people feel about Trump himself.

I wasn't pissed. It is about what I expected, but I had low expectations. Barr and Durham can make all the mouth noises they want.
But in the end, regardless of how long it takes, without indictments, it changes nothing, and I won't be fooled again.
Mueller indicted people (in less than about a year) on lying to Congress and lying to the FBI, financially ruined people the FBI set up, etc. Unless and until similar treatments are doled out for the people responsible, it is all a bunch of lip service, which only serves to placate the people who are calling for justice.

The biggest problem with the IG report, as I see it, is this... people say the report shows terrible things happening in the FBI and DoJ re: FISA.
So, let's say that the rumors we hear about big prosecutions from Durham/Barr are true, unlike the ones we heard about criminal referrals in the report?
Then any of the case they plan/ned to make against the coup conspirators that was based on FISA abuse will be seriously compromised - the defense attorneys will make a strong case that the AG's case was already investigated by his own IG, who found nothing criminal in anyone's conduct.
And that'll play with a lot of the public, who will see it as a politically-motivated vengeance prosecution.
There's not really anyway to make a purse out of this pig's ear. It was a loss for people who want to see justice, Hannity's breathless reportage notwithstanding.

Trump knew what he had to do in 2018. Show the Rs that he could move individual races and get enough senators in to make impeachment an empty threat. The House didn't matter.
Now he has the unfiltered rallies going on like clockwork, and the GOP increasingly will use that to win the house back, plus Trump will have his coat tails. And the House has shown how worthless a Democratic led house is, even for liberals.

Inadvertently, that's the BEST thing the Democrat have done. The grotesque visages of State and DoD officials, along with profound hatred of the IC and FBI, have torn a permanent rift between the citizenry and the Ruling Class. The Deep State's whore puppets like Comey, Brennan, Clapper, Yates, Powers, McCabe and Company have awakened a sleeping giant.
Who's going to support their next War for Dollars? Who will volunteer to fight it? Who will support the foreign and military aid they use for graft?

Witholding exculpatory evidence on a massive level in FISA and elsewhere. Flynn's lawyer has evidence they did that to Flynn to get him to confess, and the FBI has been trying to brush it off as a big nothing that should be ignored.

That's the problem - I don't see the scenario where she blames it on the lefties, or even moderates. Schiff and Nadler are her cronies, not opponents.
If AOC was running this I could see it as an op to cut them off at the knees, but right now AOC and her ilk are the statemanlike ones.
