The Saturday Night Joke

Love is a Many Splendored Thing...

A woman, cranky because her husband was late coming home again, decided to leave a note, saying, "I've had enough and have left you...don't bother coming after me"

Then she hid under the bed to see his reaction.

After a short while, the husband comes home and she could hear him in the kitchen before he comes into the bedroom. She could see him walk towards the dresser and pick up the note.

fter a few minutes, he wrote something on it before picking up the phone and calling someone.

"She's finally gone...yeah I know, about bloody time, I'm coming to see you, put on that sexy French nightie. I love you...can't wait to see you...we'll do all the naughty things you like."

He hung up, grabbed his keys and left.

She heard the car drive off as she came out from under the bed, seething with rage and with tears in her eyes.

She grabbed the note to see what he wrote.

"I can see your feet. We're outta bread; be back in five minutes." H/T CBD

The drinks are set aside. The Saturday Night Joke has been told. Before we get on with this ONT, let us have a moment of silence for those who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor 78 years ago today.

I'm quite familiar with Wausau, WI. What is snow good for? Shoveling, plowing, snow balls! Well 2 out of 3 aint bad anymore.

“No person shall throw or shoot any object, arrow, stone, snowball or other missile or projectile, by hand or by any other means, at any other person or at, in or into any building, street, sidewalk, alley, highway, park, playground or other public place within the city,” New Municipal Ordinance in Wausau, Wisconsin.

My disdain for elected officials continues to increase daily.

The perfect Moron job. Owning your own business, a bar.

IF YOU BUY THE JERSEY Lilly, you’ll own the biggest business in the town of Ingomar, Montana. That’s because it is, in fact, the only business in Ingomar. You’ll also be the town’s 14th resident.

The century-old building has survived two World Wars, the Great Depression, and a fire that nearly wiped Ingomar off the map. Owners June Nygren and Boots Kope will be damned if they have to shutter its doors because no one can pony up the $225,000 for this historic bar. “I’m just hoping somebody will say, ‘You know what, I wanna be away from it all.’ This is a spectacular place to do that,” says Nygren. The nearest town, Forsyth, is “only” 44 miles away. “That’s really close in Montana, trust me.”

Do you like to decorate for the Holidays? Do you entertain over the Holiday Season? Here's your chance to show off your decorations to your company.

Crafted from four fake Christmas trees, chicken wire, green mesh, and a fog machine, Treezilla -- a smoke-breathing Godzilla tree -- is really something to behold! Its creator, Steven Newland of New Zealand, recently sold it in auction for $415 NZD (approx. $269.58 USD). A bargain!

Talk about a rough day at work. 21-year-old Sanjay Bahe was doing routine repair work one second and had an iron rod impaling his head the next.

Construction work is a hazardous vocation riddled with potential pitfalls and physical dangers. For 21-year-old Sanjay Bahe from Balaghat, in central India, getting an iron rod pierced through his skull will likely serve as a lifelong reminder of that fact.

According to The Daily Mail, the young man was in the middle of repair work at a construction site when he accidentally fell into a well. That split-second accident resulted in a large iron rod going straight through his head.

90 minute surgery, piece of cake.

Honesty is the best policy. Fired and sentenced to jail. Yes Virginia, there is a thing called Karma.

She got the government job, and then a jail sentence. Veronica Hilda Theriault of Australia will spend the next year in jail after lying on the resume she submitted to land the role of chief information officer in South Australia's Department of the Premier and Cabinet in 2017, reports CNN. The 46-year-old worked in the role for more than a month, earning $22,500 of what was to be an $185,000 annual salary, before she was fired and charged with deception, dishonesty, and abuse of public office. In district court on Tuesday, Judge Michael Boylan said she'd lied about her education and work history and given "glowing feedback" while posing as a reference for herself. Her brother—awarded a government contract earning him more than $15,000 during Theriault's employment, per PerthNow—had also supplied a false reference for his sister.

Quite an accomplishment to live to the ripe ages of 88 and 102. Another great accomplishment to release an album.

I think the majority of us have wished we could say whatever the hell we wanted to say in our job. Something about a filter between the brain and the mouth prevents us. Attorney Christopher Hook doesn't have one of those filters.

Generally, when opposing counsel tells you to “eat a bowl of dicks,” you know that your settlement talks are going nowhere fast. When opposing counsel later informs you that he’s going to “let the long dick of the law f*ck [your client],” then you know that something may be amiss. When opposing counsel then begins to refer to you as a “cumstain” and a “limp dick mother f*cker,” you may realize that your settlement talks have gone completely off the rails. When opposing counsel threatens to “water board each one of [your client’s] trolls who show up for depo without any mercy whatsoever,” and claims that he “know[s] where you live,” you know it’s time to file ex parte with a judge to get some much-needed relief.

This is what happened in a recent dispute between Christopher Hook, a plaintiffs’ lawyer in California, and a legal team at Sheppard Mullin led by partner Peter Klee. The matter itself is a simple insurance dispute over about $200,000, but Hook’s conduct has turned it into a complete circus sideshow. Sheppard Mullin represents Allstate and Hook represents a couple trying to fight the company for an ever-increasing amount of funds, into the millions.

In a declaration supporting Allstate’s ex parte application for relief, Klee says Hook “bombarded” him and his colleagues with “over 100 emails.” Here’s a taste of what went down between Hook and the lawyers at Sheppard Mullin:

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - A 17-year old boy is being charged as an adult for attempted murder after shooting at two men, and hitting one of them, who used fake money to buy marijuana, police said.

Julio Aguirre is being held without bail in Seminole County Jail in connection with the shooting, which happened on Nov. 2 outside Imperial Class Tattoo on State Road 436.

A cardinal caught recently in central Texas has a rare abnormality that causes it to have female feathers on one side of its body and male on the other.

The Inland Bird Banding Association posted several pictures of the unique bird on its Facebook page.

It says the bird shows apparent bilateral gynandromorphism, which causes the bird to have an ovary and a testis.

Visitors to the Tennessee Aquarium may be shocked to learn that an electric eel named Miguel Wattson is lighting up a Christmas tree.

A special system connected to Miguel's tank enables his shocks to power strands of lights on a nearby tree, according to a news release.

Miguel releases low-voltage blips of electricity when he is trying to find food, aquarist Kimberly Hurt said. That translates to a rapid, dim blinking of the Christmas lights. When he is eating or excited he emits higher voltage shocks which cause bigger flashes.

Pretty fascinating. One of the people in one picture is wearing woodland(!) camo pants, might be a Canadian Ranger. They're native volunteers who do... whatever it is the Canadian Forces need done in the frigid north, I guess. It's a part of the Reserves.

Excerpts from the FAQ:

How do I become a Canadian Ranger?
In order to become a Canadian Ranger you must meet the following criteria:
(...)
You must be knowledgeable and personally equipped to survive and efficiently operate on the land.

Will I wear a uniform?
Yes. Canadian Rangers are easily identified by their bright red sweatshirts and red baseball caps or toques.

What equipment will I be given?
All Canadian Rangers are issued a No. 4 Lee Enfield rifle and 200 rounds of .303 ammunition.

A Wisconsin family added a little extra flair to their home's holiday decorations, a Donald Trump flag, and it's gained them some unwanted attention and a threatening letter.

The author writes, "I see from your flag outside you hate America and will do anything to kill it."

I really don't think they care. The attitude I get from a number of drivers is they are the only person on the road and the hell with everyone else. And I especially love the jerkoffs who will blow past a stop sign on a side street and cut right in front of cars on a main road and then end up driving 10 miles under the speed limit. Thus not only almost causing an accident by ignoring a stop sign but also backing up traffic in a lane

In Bentonville, Arkansas, one of the Walmart heiresses built a huge museum of American art. She apparently pissed off all the right people on the East Coast and in Europe by being all flyover Jesusland but coming along with more money than all of them and buying up all their shit.

Anyway, most of the museum is really interesting, some great stuff in there-- free admission, too. But at the end in the modern section was an 'exhibition' that consisted of a rectangle, about 10' by 20' of thousands of individually wrapped green candies. A plaque on the wall explained that the artist, who was from San Francisco (because of course he was) had created this... Piece... to commemorate his boyfriend (of course) who had died of AIDS (of course). Viewers were invited to help themselves to a piece. We did not.

Writer Larry Correia, who lives in Bum Fuck, Utah, and grew up in Bum Fuck, rural California, mentioned to some people at a literary party in NYC that his home county has more cows than people.

One of the literary intelligentsia asked him "What do you do about all the waste?"
"What?"
"Their waste. How does it get to the sewer system?"

267 Think the "know what's your target and what's beyond" is a general safety rule for recreational/controlled shooting [one of the "4 rules"] - even though in a tactical situation the principle would apply, it's a totally different/variable situation.

A perp firing unanswered/unmolested could be a threat to civilians behind the targeted PD - so stopping him would be protecting civilians [and yourself].

Based on the video, it was a hellish situation. Once all the traffic was stopped, if the perps opened fire, don't know what they could/should have done.

People can Monday-morning-QB this to infinity, but without complete and detailed facts about everything, it's just guessing.

Agreed and I freely admit I know very little about this shit storm. But, I am comfortable stating a few, to me, known facts:

A hostage was under control of the BGs.

The LEO effected a vehicle stop in a crowded, public area.

No specialized LEOs (snipers, negotiators, etc.) were on scene to deal with the stopped van.

As I said, I agree that to comment from my comfy chair is free of all of the pressures experienced by the LEO

BUT - this whole thing sure looks like is was bungled in every way possible. I pray I am proven wrong.

291 Way back in the dim dawn of history, back when I was in college, I drove pizza. This was around Ohio State's campus. The pizza store was at the corner of Summit Street and Chittenden Avenue. To get to the south dorms, you'd go west on Chittenden and, at the light at high street, turn left from the middle lane, which put you in the right lane to go down 10th avenue which went past the dorms (Steeb, Smith, Park, Stradley, Siebert, Morrison, Canfield and Mack. I'm astonished I can remember all the names. It's been more than 35 years. I digress.)

One night I was, um, moving right along trying to make the light while it was still green. In front of me, in the right lane, there was a station wagon. He was, as I said, in the right lane, his right turn signal was on, and he was kind of angled to the right and, just as I got there, he made a left turn in front of me. Apparently, he was going to the south dorms, too. As I recall, I missed him, and there was no damage done, but there was a lot of swearing in the event and the immediate aftermath.

I also recall the time I delivered a pizza to Thurber Village, and I forgot the bottle of soda they'd ordered. When I returned, I took a large step off the top step of an unlit stairway. I was mostly uninjured, but I expect that the customer got a surprise when they opened the bottle.

349 please correct me if I am mistaken but, isn't one of the fundamental tenets of safe shooting is to know what is behind what you are shooting at?

That video showing the shot up UPS van shows bullet holes all over the side of the van. It looks like the keystone cops were shooting blindly into the van without any visual on the target inside.

No wonder they killed the driver.

350 As yes, Papa Joe's was a fine establishment.

In my day, the men's room had a cut in half water softener tank that was bolted to the wall for use as a urinal.

And a sink. Nothing else.

The ladies room was so bad, and the lines so long, the girls would use the men's room.

At the same time as we were in there.

Oh, they used the sink.

The best part about working there was a cute coworker, by which I mean she has a cute voice. She'd get on the speaker thing and confirm a customer's order: "A Skooter with cheese with large Skooter fries and a Skooter shake."

443 If there had been carriers docked at Pearl on 12/7/41 then Midway would sure have taken a lot longer to happen if at all.

Posted by: kbdabear at December 08, 2019 12:28 AM

I'm not sure I grasp your point. The whole point of the battle of Midway, from Japan's perspective, was to lay a trap to destroy the aircraft carriers that they didn't manage to destroy in the raid on Pearl Harbor. If the carriers had been docked on December 7, there would have been no battle of Midway, nor an invasion of the Aleutians.

In Neptune's Inferno[/a] Hornfischer argues (I think persuasively) That the real problem in 1942-1943 was there wasn't enough fuel to go around.

455 Japan didn't fail because there were no carrier forces for them to bomb n' torpedo at Pearl.

Japan failed because they didn't attack the repair docks and fuel tank-farms at Pearl Harbor.

You go on and read the accounts of how MANY hulls those repair yards got up and under their own steam in VERY short order, and how many ships could sail with full bunkers because of that fuel.

Midway was the "visual" momentum shift in the Pacific War.

The actual momentum shift was that Pearl Harbor was UP and RUNNING in the Getting Ships Back to Sea business, at least a YEAR before they "should've been".

All thanks to that Japanese failure to launch a 3rd wave.

She's asleep by me on the sofa, but I don't think she can even walk. I'm between angry, and frustrated. I'm beginning to think that I never should have even taken her to the Vet. Put her through a lot of discomfort, with seeming bad results.

Had the Enterprise, Saratoga, and Lexington been at Pearl, Adm King probably would have told FDR "we might be truly fucked, Mr President".

Incredibly, the Japanese ignored the oil tanks, navy yard, and submarine base, thinking that the destruction of the battleships would have set us back too far to recover before they would matter.

Even with the battleships, only the Arizona, Oklahoma, and Utah (which was only a training ship anyway) were total losses. The Tennessee and Maryland were back in service in 2 months, Nevada in 10 months, the Pennsylvania was quickly repaired and stayed in service. The California and West Virginia weren't back until 1944.

There were only 3 cruisers hit, the Honolulu was only lightly damaged, the Raleigh and Helena were back in 2 months.

4 destroyers were hit, Cassin and Downes took 2 years to repair, Shaw was out 6 months, and Helm continued service.

Hitler probably didn't think it necessary or didn't want to owe the Japs anything. The Germans were only 40 miles from Moscow at the time.

Also on December 8, 1941 Japan invaded the Malay Peninsula which climaxed with the Fall of Singapore and the surrender of 30,000 British troops. That seemed to hammer Churchill much worse than the Fall of Dunkirk.

I used to ride the back bumper of asswipes who did that.

What boils me now are bicyclists who take stop signs as a suggestion and not a law. I damn near hit one who blew through a roundabout without even looking or slowing down.

________

It was all before my time. My views and practices are as follows:

On November 11, I remember the last person in my family lost to a war. It was my grandmother's brother. He was an immigrant from Russian-occupied Lithuania who signed up to fight in WWI. Like a lot of people at the time, his personal mission was two-fold: (1) service to his new country, and (2) giving a chance to the people in Europe he left behind.

That was the war to end all wars. In my mind, I pretend that to be true. After remembering a great uncle I never met, I think of 11/11 as the beginning of the Days of Peace. I get into Thanksgiving and start thinking about Christmas, and when the Insufferable Politics Coworker starts spewing about issues of war and peace, I remain silent.

The Days of Peace end on 12/7. Peace, however preferable, is not the natural state of humanity. That's when I stop thinking about my great uncle and start thinking about my Dad who enlisted in the Navy when he was 18. Then I start thinking about what a fuck-up that I was at 18. Wow.

Starting 12/7, I shed my tolerance for Insufferable Peaceniks and think of Pearl Harbor, Okinawa, Pusan and the World Trade Center. I thing of the foreign enemies of this great country and think FUCK THEM! Then my thoughts turn to the domestic enemies of this great country and think FUCK THEM THRICE! as I wonder how someone could be lucky enough to be here, enjoy a peaceful existence HERE!! and yet aspire to tear it all down.

My darker side knows that what's wrong with America will not only correct but overcorrect, and I know that overcorrection will be ugly, but on some days I don't care. December the 7th and 8th are two such days.

Here on Galveston Island, about 99.95% of adults who ride bicycles are drunks that've lost their licenses.

But not the Tweakers. Those, they lack the coordination, balance and lack of muscular-skeletal TWITCHING to successfully navigate and maneuver such a complicated instrument as a bicycle.

Tweakers can be noted in that they push their bicycles along the bike lanes, laden with all of their worldly possessions, without ever once attempting to mount and pedal the damn thing.

Many addicts can be successfully rehabbed. Tweakers? WORSE than heroin.

This is the only conflict in which the Chinese proved in the end, to be right.

498 kbdabear, a couple of things. Dougout Doug had 10 hours notice of the attack on Pearl and still let all his aircraft get caught on the ground when the Japanese attacked. He really wasn't the military genius that most histories make him out to be. His insistence on invading Pelileu for their miserable little airfield that cost so many American casualties is one instance. Secondly, Hitler declared war on the US on December 11 and it was the worst mistake he could have possibly made. Our industries were beyond the reach of any of his bombers and operated unimpeded. His biggest threat was his U-boats.

Editorial: We've seen enough. Trump should be impeached

Well. That settles it. I'm convinced now. But I do wonder, which last straw broke their camel's back? Did a board member catch a dose of dipshitheria? I don't wonder enough to read their drivel though.

Hell, even Trump agrees. Let's get it on.

coordinating with the Iranians in an effort to bring down Trump. America

FIFY. They were giving Iran the reacharound when they were sure that Queen Cankles would be there to keep up the collusion.

517 Did the Christmas decorating with mom yesterday. Yikes! There is a ton of stuff. Last year I intentionally put away the decorations in a way to pare down what we would put out this year. You know, boxed up stuff and put it in the way-way back of the closet. (With mom if it's not front and center it doesn't exist.) Holy crap! Still too many trips up and down the stairs.

For me, it is fun to see all of the treasures again, and the house looks festive. I'm not so sure mom feels that way. It seems to have caused more anxiety. She kept unplugging the tree lights! She'd say she was worried I'd forget to unplug them when we went to bed. All day she'd insist it was my stuff i brought over even though she helped me get the things out of her closets or basement!

Hopefully it will all be more familiar to her today.

Do what I do.

Whenever I have something that I wanna watch or read, the MORE interesting it is, the faster I fall asleep.

Funny! It's become a family joke that I can't make it through the whole movie without falling asleep! "Mom, are you awake?"
"Yeah, just resting my eyes."
"Mom, are you sleeping?"
"Mom,...mom,...mom! The movie's over"
