I assume it was drained outdoors and cleaned before being brought in. It still needs to be skinned, but that would ruin the tranquility of the picture, so they probably deviated from the normal order in the interests of aesthetics.

I'd go with some type of beet.
The greens don't really look carrot or parsnip-like, and there are varieties of elongated beets in addition to the more common (in modern times, anyway) round ones.

62 I like these kitchen still life paintings. They are realistic enough to provide a level of life-like detail while retaining artistic elements of light and position. And being 'household' scenes allows the artist to show the deep wood grain and other details that appear so rich in indoor lighting. They are both effective and attractive.

Finally coerced into trying a bite, I did not find it to taste chicken-esque and was in no hurry to add it to my regular menu.

128 A good object lesson to watch is taking place this week with the UK elections, for anyone who wonders if a legislature would do anything so stupid that it would cost many members their seats. Remember all the maneuvering and infighting to block Brexit that took place in September - October previous? The Parliament was able to block it temporarily, but at the price of being forced to call new elections. (when they could have put those elections off for 3 years if they had allowed it to go forward)

UK Elections are on Thursday, and estimates are that, from all parties, at least 50 - 80 members of the previous parliament will be tossed out and replaced by pro-Brexiters. This also includes some conservative party members who refused to support brexit, and who have been replaced as a result.

So yes, politicians with puffed up egos commit political suicide quite easily.

I stopped drinking for eight years because my marriage was on the rocks and I was being a shitty father. It was mostly frustration about being in a shitty job but drinking lessened my ability to deal with stress. So I just stopped cold turkey and set up a long term plan to make my life better. And it worked. I drink moderately on the weekends and when I go out but never get hammered. And I saved my marriage and have a great relationship with my children.

290 I figure my upbringing was about halfway between those parents/guardians who keep starved kids in cages and the angelic couple raising happy, well-balanced children. "Halfway" being a broad range... somewhere between.

I didn't think about how bad it was vis-a-vis other families. Loved my family, hated the cruelty. Only after growing up and gaining a broader perspective did I realize, wow! That was really bad!

Yet even then, I find out, bad as it was, many have had it so much worse; it was only averagely cruel for the time and place.

Averagely savagery.

At this point, he would make a pretty good fall guy that could maintain the battle lines within the Democratic Party without tilting that fight one way or another in a loss.

He would hurt the establishment more than the activist left, for sure, but he's so damaged by his own sins (that many will come to think of as unique to him) that he could end up standing a bit apart.

But Iowa is a caucus, so anyone can win by simply playing enough dirty tricks and dumping money into it to flood the caucus. So who knows? Not only is Iowa basically meaningless to the electoral college but their primary election has no reflection upon the will of the voters there beyond occasional coincidence.

And he'll lose Nevada.

Yes, he'll probably win South Carolina.

However, Super Tuesday is next, and it includes California. Biden going into California, having lost 3 of the first 4 states (no matter delegate counts) will stink of a loser. He'll lose California and probably a few other Super Tuesday states.

They turned out okay, anyway, very much because of good step-fathers.

I've mentioned before, a cabbie we had (last century) in Chicago. In short, during the ride, we talked about his son (picture proudly displayed on dashboard), somehow got on religion (said he was a non-believer). I said something about God as a father, and he cursed about his own cruel father. "Not like the father you had," I managed to say, just before we parted, "but like the father you want to be for your son."

I had a bad panic attack last night. Any specialists out there know why my anxiety is so much worse right after my period? Which hormone is depleted?

Yes. Ivan Reitman's son is making it and it's ignoring the VagBusters "continuity". He specifically said "It's the Ghostbusters the fans want", which caused a lot of REEEEEEEEEEE.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at December 09, 2019 11:10 AM (I2dne)

Unnecessary exsanguination causes an imbalance of the four humors. The solution is to flush the sinuses to reduce phlegm and induce vomiting to reduce the biles.

If this fails, she has to wear a dead pigeon about the neck until it rots off its rope.

603 I think Joe Biden's best asset is that he's not hated by the big corporate sponsors (Warren) and has a shred of a chance of getting black votes, unlike Buttgag and the rest of the cast of characters. That's the only real analysis that goes into voting for him.

Everyone knows he's an idiot and insane and creepy and handsy with little girls and will gaffe horrendously every few days. Everyone knows he's way past his due date, but the rest are so awful that he looks less bad by comparison.

RE: Gangs

I thought it was a beautiful, albeit minor, moment to have the DiCaprio character glance up at the sky.... puzzled. There was something different, something odd, a change in the atmosphere of some kind, but he couldn't figure out what it was, because... beyond his experience. Same for the audience. (It was the first, very slight 'whoosh' of incoming naval artillery shells.)

I also loved the scene where a mob throws a paving stone through a store window, which had until that moment featured a photo of... Abraham Lincoln.
