"So, the other day, CNN trotted out Watergate bungler John Dean, who has spent his post-Watergate years building up his brand being an anti-Republican squawk-box, who said, quote, I think this president should have been impeached from day one, unquote.

"I guess nobody told him that, in order to be impeached, a president has to actually do something that's impeachable, so he can't be impeached "from day one." Impeachment is a last resort, not the first line of defense against executive branch corruption.

"But I don't care about anything Dean has to say. The point is, if CNN were a serious news organization, that comment should've gotten John Dean booted off permanently. It is not any kind of sober political analysis, it is just a childish hurled by a partisan hack. Note to CNN: this is why we don't take you seriously. They don't do actual news any more. They just bring out one guy who says 'Orange Man bad', followed by another guy who says 'Orange Man bad' followed by a woman who says, 'Orange Man bad'. This is the sum total of their news coverage

"You know, if Saturday Night Live is looking for 'edgy' material, they can always grab that old 'Death to America' skit from Mad TV and update it to 'Orange Man Bad' as a way to poke satirical fun at the incompetent clown show CNN has become. There is a gold mine of material for comedy here, for anyone to pick up and use. It would be hip, edgy, and subversive of the dominant 'Orange Man Bad' paradigm in our culture. Isn't this precisely the sort of thing that progressives say they like?"

Or the young couple I know who saved up for years for a down payment on a home purchase around 2008, and who realized the people who had overextended themselves were saved from their financial choices during the last (ahem) "crisis" and didn't learn anything except someone else will help them when they overextend themselves next time.

It was so sad. They had sacrificed for years to get that 20% down payment and they were thrilled that so many nice homes in their budget would be coming on the market soon, and they never did. They ended up buying the same POS level starter home that they would've looked at if the "crisis" had never happened.

That is a hilarious movie, one of my favorites in that schlock/horror genre! Because it is much more comedy than terror (Compare to A Comedy of Terrors, with the same cast + Basil Rathbone)

You can tell in every scene that Karloff and Price are hamming it up and having a great time playing off each other, and both of them are rolling their eyes at Peter Lorre, who wasn't just acting drunk, he truly was drunk out of his gourd on the set. (it shows) Another amusing bit - Jack Nicholson is playing Peter Lorre's son, but they fight constantly and bitterly - apparently that was real as well, as Peter Lorre and Jack Nicholson detested each other right from the start. And in each scene Vincent Price looks at all of this going on and just smirks.

The score is awesome. The plot is incomprehensively silly, but who cares? Burton has a lot of fun with his cynically smartassed character, Ingrid Pitt and Mary Ure are nucular hawt, the prop multipurpose dynamite bombs are awesome, and the on-screen body count was one of the biggest in film history, until The Wild Bunch knocked it off the throne a year later.
