Saturday Morning Coffee Break

the-best-100-photos-of-the-week-20160306-44.jpg

***

Saturday morning. That can only mean at least one thing. Some items that didn't get their fair share of attention here at the AoSHQ this past week.

***

  • This certainly is surprising as in "No shit, Sherlock."

  • Someone needs to seek attention in a different way or three.

  • FFS. Special Snowflakes are worldwide.

  • Happily married 40 years. Married for 80. J/K

  • Rejection is a bitch.

  • Ouch!

  • Nice try. But, you be the Judge.

  • Gin and tonic? Yes. Gin and elephant poop?

Enjoy these stories or something else that tickles your fancy. After all this is an open thread. Just a couple of rules, no running with sharp objects, no pulling the 'ettes pony tails and be nice to one another.

    Have a great weekend!!!

I guess Natasha Fatale's sob story wasn't quite the blockbuster the MFM wanted except for the hysteria of Christine Wallace and Betty Baier. So now it's this David Holmes embassy staffer who swearsies he overheard a Trump phone call with Sondland were Trump demanded an investigation!!! He also heard Sondland's response. So an embassy staffer was listening in on the president's phone call?

Use canned food as a base.

Example: Tired after work, no interest in cooking, but don't want pre-packaged meal.

So I set water boiling and while waiting for it to heat, cut up an onion and some celery. Then I pick what kind of soup I want. I went with beef, so I open a can of roast beef, add some potatoes, maybe rice and let it boil for a little bit, season and serve.

Also get leftovers out of it.

Thursday I threw a frozen bag of potatoes O'Brian into a skillet, and once it got going, added a can of Spam, attacking it aggressively with the spatula to break it up and distribute it evenly. Nice little 'breakfast for dinner.'

    The kids loved it.

60 Cannabis article- fine example of crappy research combined with crappy lay reportage of the crappy research.

Headline: Legal marijuana has led to increased use, risk for abuse among teens

Opening sentence: "The legalization of recreational marijuana in some states has led to a slight uptick in reports of cannabis use disorder among teens, a new study suggests."

Disclaimer buried deep in the article: "The authors caution that their findings are limited by the fact that respondents to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health self-reported their marijuana use, and that responses may therefore not reflect actual usage trends."

    TLR version. Oopsie!

So many people seem to believe that tension and strife in a marriage is normal. I don't think it is, but is is common.

I'm already inured to spending months out of the year indoors, except that here it's sweaty steamy heat out there and I'm huddling around the air conditioner. When the weather at last cools, I burst outside like a dog who's been cooped up in the house and wants to *play*. I figure, trade hot for cold in that scenario, and I'll be fine.

I lived in Denver for 4 years, and while it's not the same kind of cold as WI, and snow only fell about once a month Oct-April, I have the right idea: layers, a hat, gloves, winterize the car and the pipes in the house.

From what I've seen, too, you can get one hell of a lot more house in my price range in WI's smaller cities and towns than I could dream of down here -- nicer looking houses, with garages.

Just need to find a job that will add to my SS and pension when I take them, and I'll be set!

    93 Elephant shit infused gin:

Flora contain substances that can impart a unique flavor to gin =>

    Elephant eats flora=>

Elephant's alimentary tract partially digests said flora =>

    Distiller harvests elephant's poop =>

Distiller sterilizes and processes poop to remove poop components, leaving residual flora =>

    Flora used to infuse gin.

    Simplified process.

    Side note:
If you're buying gin marketed as elephant shit-infused it's possible that you don't come here for the gin.

Just watched two episodes this am of a 1950s TV series called Decoy. Beverly Garland plays an undercover policewoman in NYC. No sexism; the male cops treat her as a woman but also a colleague; Beverly's Casey Jones is as feminine a woman as you might want, but with a steel policewoman core. And she goes undercover not just as strippers and whores, but as a secretary in an office, as a junkie, and other things. All without acting like a man, unless you count handling her revolver as proficiently as a male cop would.

There's your "strong woman." But the series is never mentioned in retrospectives on TV.

The guy who did the undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood execs admitting that they sell baby body parts got slammed with a multi-million-dollar judgment this week.

His grave offense that justified the huge damage award to the PP baby-sellers? Trespassing. See, he gave a fake name to the PP killers in order to get their permission to go onto their premises to videotape them laughing about how much they were making off the selling of dead baby parts. The judge determined that giving the fake name meant that he got onto the premises by stealth, which was trespassing, and clearly a horrible crime such as trespassing should be severely punished by bankrupting the guy.

The powers-that-be, which includes the corrupt judge in this case, are determined that there will not be any actual journalism committed in this country. At least, not any journalism that hurts Dims and their causes, like killing babies.

    1.5 lb browned ground sirloin
2 cans Glory seasoned butter beans, not drained
1 sm can each Campbell's split pea and bean/bacon, not topped with water
    1 cup beef broth
    s/p and Spike seasoning

Will take lid off at 10am so it can cook down and steam off some liquid. It's the envy of hobos everywhere.

And in contrast to the Western states, which I love, the Californiates (I just made up a word) haven't started flooding in yet, driving up house prices. (Right?) I find it hard to believe that Commiefornians who babble on and on about the "perfect weather" there would willingly relocate to WI or MN.

WI isn't on Southern people's radar. I mention the state to locals, and the knee-jerk response is, "It's cold." To which I reply, "I'll be in a house, not sleeping on the street."

192 " self-reported their marijuana use, and that responses may therefore not reflect actual usage trends."

legalizing marijuana led to a slight uptick in self reporting of using marijuana.

If they aren't going to actually stop the drugs from coming across the border, I guess maybe growing marijuana and taxing it is a profitable enterprise that generates more tax revenue for the government to steal.

But till we get rid of the DeepState mafia that imo, supports the invasion of the cartels to aid in globalist war against middle America ... till then we don't know if we could actually stop all the trafficking if government wasn't run mostly as a grift machine (and a vote buying machine).

Beatoff's got to know that he's now utterly unelectable in Texas (except maybe as mayor of Austin or something like that). I mean, he's stupid, but he's not that stupid.

My theory: Beatoff discovered that campaigning is too much like actual work, so he intentionally torpedoed his own political career. That frees him up to go back to his true calling: being a useless layabout mooching off his FIL's money.

What kind of link? Is it like "alcohol-related" where someone in one of the cars in an accident had a single drink within so many hours of it happening?

I think a lot of the mental illnesses correlated with pot use can be explained as people self-medicating. It can lead to feedback loop, but in the absence of mj, they might have used liquor or something harder.

Basically, most 'medical studies' are fund-raising exercises.

221 All this mention of diarrhea reminds me of my older
cat, who from time to time decorates the bathroom floor instead of the
litter box. He chooses a spot way over by the bathub, but even so I've
taken to turning on the light when I visit the loo so I won't step into a
    surprise.

I've been trying to remedy the situation with diet. There are
things that exacerbate the condition, like salmon-based cat chow, and
stuff like rabbit which helps. He needs to visit the vet again, though.

The actual question asked was "In the last two (I think) years, have you ever slept anywhere other than a dwelling owned or rented by you?"

That's right. If you've ever gone to sleep on a plane, or zonked out while watching a movie at a friend's house, or been a student who went to sleep in the library during a late-night cram session... voila! You're now counted as being "at risk for homelessness".

I had to do something similar for my late tuxedo cat Oreo. In her last two weeks she refused to use the litter box and wanted to relieve herself under my desk -- and the floor is carpeted. I bought large garbage bags, cut them open, and taped them in place, then cleaned up after her. She was an elderly lady -- I was told she was 5 when I adopted her, but she probably was older, and she died about 6 years after she came to live with me. So she couldn't help it.

245 Used to be, whenever the big circus was in town, they would hire any and all single-axle dump trucks, with driver, to haul away elephant ordure. So, I have been just about that close to large quantities of elephant droppings.

They are rather inoffensive as droppings go, and were in demand as additives to field manures and compost. I would put them as less bad than pig, less sharp than fresh horse, and maybe about equal to bullshit. We still had to hose the truck bed out like there was no tomorrow, when done.

You have to keep in mind that in all the centuries before all chemicals and substances were neatly segregated for formulaic use, the damnedest things used to be right there in the recipe. There are beer instructions from after Shakespeare's time that call for cattle manure to be placed into beer barrels between batches, to "purify" them. So the presence of poop in beer is Old.
And that's it. All the good stuff I can say about elephant poop in the liquor. Frankly I am not for it.

And manx cats - I once had a manx cat and across the alley from us was a house with a 7' chain link fence and this big german shepard that would bark like crazy whenever anyone or anything walked down the alley. So I'd hear him barking like he was going insane, slobbering mad, and I'd go look and our manx had gone within about 12 inches of his chain link fence. and then she had just laid down and was slowly grooming herself. While the dog went crazy.

There is profit in it, especially for a use that will be not as identifiable as pot as smoking it. So they make what they think is a useful product and don't understand that oil will kill your lungs.

And dumbasses are going to kill people when they do dumb crap for other dumbasses to take internally.

So I doubt that an established company would set up a clandestine production line to place an intentionally poisonous product into a black market distribution to force customers back to their product. They would be better served to get into the vaping business so they won't all go to jail for murder.

Now, states hate vaping for some reason, so I could see "missing" some illicit producers just to give a basis for banning the whole technology.

332 There are people in our country, dangerous people, who no longer believe or support a constitutional republic. They believe individual freedom, The Bills of Rights and a government owned and elected by the people is a quaint notion of bygone days. These despots live and exist in every facet of American life today. They live largely in out government institutions, which have shown themselves to be no friend of the people if you choose a person as president who is not their cult king. They exist in the Democratic Party, who is nothing of the sort and who finds and leads the subversion and conspires with the media to dupe the people and undermine the truth. They prosper amongst the corporations and breed with money provided by authoritarian insurrectionists like Soros and his liege. They infect our judiciary and law enforcement arms to undermine our system of justice and wield it like a weapon. They even breed in the citizenry and sit on juries like Manafort and Stone to help the corruption take root and to punish those who don't agree with them as a warning.

It should be clear to even the most casual observer that Democrats want to rule with an iron hand, not govern, and that a vote for them is a vote for despotism. Take stock of what I've just articulated and show me where it's not true or verifiable in cities or states where Democrats already rule. Every single policy proposal they make forces or coerces you to give up a right, your property, your fortune, your right to disagree or ability to choose.

They aren't intentionally trying to kill anyone. They're using food-grade Vitamin E as a filler to increase their profits. Vitamin E is OK to eat, but inhaling it kills your lungs, they just didn't know any better.
Hard to blame Big Tobacco when they've invested billions in the vape industry in the past decade. They saw which way things were going a long time ago. Phillip Morris (now named Altria) owns a huge stake in Juul, paying over $12 BILLION for 35%.

352 Janet Yellen's reign at the Fed along with that buffoon Bernanke will go down as the worst "recovery" in our history. That's due to two factors, their cultist adherence to inflation as a single metric which resulted in a ability to examine other measures and politics. It can only be explained by that. I also won't discount that Barky and his fellow travelers didn't believe in liberty or capitalism. Nothing else explains their failure to push on the same measure that Trump has to supercharge our economy. That would be lower taxes, improved trade policies and less regulations, to name a few. The latter is especially important as it is a device that despots use to strangle the free market and put it under government control. That's really what Barry wanted.

Or maybe he really just told her to express support for the President and his policies. In any case, that was beneath her. How gauche. How declassee. It's simply not done!

Yet it is done. She was perfectly willing to kiss Biden's ass to get the post in the first place. She was given a script at her confirmation hearings and forced to sugar-coat Hunter Biden's corruption at Burisma to get the post. They literally put words in her mouth.

There's a phrase for that: witness intimidation.

By the way, it's not witness intimidation to criticize an employee's job performance--ask Billy Dale. If it is, then let's ban federal job performance reviews and do away with bonuses.

If Yovanovitch was truly fighting corruption, she would have thrown the Bidens out of the country.

Nicotine is soluble in glycerin, a water soluble/miscible solvent. And glycerin has long been used in cigarettes to cause them to self extinguish when you don't puff on them frequently.

THC, otoh, is an OIL soluble active ingredient. Glycerin doesn't work. So they had to find an oil based carrier. Enter vitamin E acetate. Sounds healthy, right? A fookin' VITAMIN?

396 It should be clear to even the most casual observer
that Democrats want to rule with an iron hand, not govern, and that a
vote for them is a vote for despotism. Take stock of what I've just
articulated and show me where it's not true or verifiable in cities or
states where Democrats already rule. Every single policy proposal they
make forces or coerces you to give up a right, your property, your
fortune, your right to disagree or ability to choose.

People need to wake up before it's too late.

As well as the abstract theory of Communism there must, since 1917, be
considered the concrete attempt to apply its principals in the Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics, where one aspect of it can be summed up in
    the words of Stalin:

    "Scientifically
speaking, the dictatorship of the proletariat is a power which is
restricted by no laws, hampered by no rules, and based directly on

Being fired and crying is nice theater of the absurd ... nothing to do with Trump, except Exhibit A in evidence that these political hacks/grifters feel they should overrule foreign policy of a duly elected president. To the extent they acted on their own to obstruct POTUS, they should be prosecuted after being fired.

And since they are fabricating stories to help the racketeering by DeepState ... they should get ten times the sentence Stone will get for falling into some perjury trap ... and all we know of Stone is that a rigged trial convicted him ... not that he is guilty.

403 Heh. The line droppers for my fiber optic service are back to re-lay the service line to the house.

"My computer is at the far end of the house," I told them a week ago. "I have a cathedral ceiling and no crawl space. Getting the line through the house is going to be impossible."

But they ignored me and ran it to the most convenient place for them.

Inside installers arrived yesterday. After looking at the house they said, "There's no way we can run this cable through the house without opening a wall."

They offered me the option of hanging the cable on the side of the house. Nope. They screwed it up in spite of what I told them. They can fix it.

the idea that we were "investing in capitalism" (and the alleged resultant global liberty) was attractive and made many people rich, even the average middle class may now be worth millions thanks to the (inflated/subsidized/globalized) movement of inflated paper money, as WallStreet gambled and Easy Al Greenspan accomodated (Greenspan Put ... mean We the People underwrote Wall Street)

There is some return to America First now, but so many have all their wealth in the hands of the globalist money runners, that still want open borders and more trade with China (all our liberties be damned). We are approaching a blow up in the currency, or in something. Stock price inflation is not based on earnings ... and unemployment is low, but job quality has also trended lower (perhaps a little better under Trump).

Trusting all our wealth and future with the globalists running their global banks, IMF, CFR ... and they want to run foreign policy and and "reset" as well. We are still in a mess ... but Barr/Durham will come. (I really hope they do ... but how that plays out is still an open question, as the coup continues)

It really is heartbreaking. We do a disservice to our kids by teaching them about bananas and condoms and not compounded interest.

461 Disclaimer buried deep in the article: "The authors caution that their findings are limited by the fact that respondents to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health self-reported their marijuana use, and that responses may therefore not reflect actual usage trends."

    TLR version. Oopsie!

    Oh, and good morning y'all!

they never define "cannabis use disorder", either. My definition: you use it, you got it. OTOH, if the definition reads, "you use so much pot that you are basically useless as a human being", then fewer people have the disorder.

463 According to the NY Slimes Trump was sooooo loud on the phone people at tables nearby could hear him. Sure.

Dollars to donuts, Sondland set the phone on speaker, and propped it up against a glass so he could show, "Look, I'm important. Listen to who is calling me!"

464 I read an article about a colon-cleansing technique that involved using fern leaves to make a tea that you drink. It's apparently so effective it has even been used as bowel prep for colonoscopy.

As I read the article it occurred to me that with fronds like that, who needs enemas?

Speaking of ferns, "fiddleheads", the young shoots at the top of certain fern species, are very yummy as a vegetable.

466 Sure, but what benefit to the counterfeiters have in killing off vapers?

Now, big tobacco.... so I'm just saying it's not out of the realm of possibility the suppliers of tainted vapes have ties to the companies who see vaping as a threat.
Posted by: BurtTC at November 16, 2019 10:21 AM (hku12)

Lack of a logical connect here. The toxic black market vapes are sold as a vehicle to get THC into your lungs. The people who buy this shit are stoners, not your average tobacco user who wants to give up smoking and switch to a nicotine vape. The stoners are using the vapes so they can toke up in places where smoking a joint would not be tolerated.

And as far as selling "lethal" drugs goes, since when has that ever stopped dealers from selling cocaine, meth, heroin, or fentanyl, all of which can kill you dead if you get enough of it in you? The dose makes the poison.
