The Liberal "MSNBC Republican" Washington Examiner Breaks the Sacred Journalistic Rule, Printing OFF THE RECORD Comments and Then Lying About It to Get Twitter Clicks and Maybe Some Liberal Media Gigs

This earns the death penalty for this sister-publication and now spiritual successor to the MSNBC "Republican Weekly Standard.

The billionaire owner wants reach and influence? Well, just wait until 90% of all conservatives impose a complete and total boycott.

Not another link. If absolutely forced to, I will quote them briefly and note I got it from the "W.Ex." or something.

But no links.

I think people should just put a block on the site on their browser.

And oh, by the way: The Washington Examiner's "Political Conference" is tonight in Sea Island, Georgia.

Make sure you collar Seth Mandel, Jay Caruso, Phil Klein, Quin Hillyer and the rest of the gang and absolutely they demand they account for violating basic ethics and then lying about it.

(Leave Byron York alone; he's good people. But he really has to swim away from this slightly dumber and slightly cheaper but still sinking cruise ship.)

Also ask Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Devin Nunes if they're aware that the conference they're attending is now all about burning Trump officials and then making up bullshit rationales about why they feel they're allowed to pretend off the record comments are actually (secretly! fingers crossed!) on the record.

But don't make any affirmative statements yourself -- whether the Examiner promises you off-the-record status or not, they'll unethically publish your comments anyway if they think it will help them get jobs in the liberal media after their billionaire egomaniac finally realizes he can't influence Republican voters with filthy liberal scumbags.

Don't click on that. Don't ever click on Washington Examiner -- Cvckshed Daily -- material, ever. Go to Archive.is or Outline.com and enter the address if you must see the article.

More below.

Here's the story, which of course was leaked to the Washington Post to let all the liberal world know the Examiner is now a Debutante, ready to enter High Liberal Society as a Big Girl.

This journalist [churnalist], a breaking news reporter for the Washington Examiner, had written an article on Tuesday about President Trump considering Conway, counselor to the president, as his next chief of staff...

Joannou requested that the conversation with him be off the record..This reporter agreed, but moments later, Conway took over the call, initiating a new conversation without any agreement that it was off the record. The Washington Examiner is publishing audio and a transcript of the full exchange.

That is a lie: As I'll show below, the churnalist herself had to ask Kellyanne Conway if she would like to "dispute that on the record?" demonstrating that she knew damn well it was off the record, and knew, based on her own fresh affirmation, that Kellyanne Conway understood it was off the record too.

But liars gonna lie and grift gonna grift.

The editors at the new Weekly Standard (same as the old Weekly Standard, except dumber and cheaper to hire) approved of this. They got together and decided to say "Who cares about off the record guarantees? YOLO!"

Hey, you can't get #TrendingOnTwitter without relaxing a certain amount of journalistic integrity.

Conway, 52, was furious that her husband George Conway, 56, who has attracted considerable media coverage by publicly feuding with Trump, was mentioned in the story. She took issue with a line in the story that she had "been in the middle of Trump’s barbs with her husband, George, a conservative lawyer who frequently makes headlines for his criticism of the president."

She said: "So I just am wondering why in God's earth you would need to mention anything about George Conway's tweets in an article that talks about me as possibly being chief of staff. Other than it looks to me like there’s no original reporting here, you just read Twitter and other people’s stuff, which I guess is why you don’t pick up the phone when people call from the White House because, if it's not on Twitter or it’s not on cable TV, it's not real."

This is all true.

"They know absolutely nothing," as Ben Rhodes observed (and Jake Tapper refused to report).

The only thing they know is Their Twitterz.

...

After an offer to speak with an editor, Conway, who is notorious for berating journalists, told this reporter, 29: "Let me tell you something, from a powerful woman. Don’t pull the crap where you're trying to undercut another woman based on who she’s married to. He gets his power through me, if you haven't noticed. Not the other way around. And if these are the quote standards unquote at the Washington Examiner, then yes I'd be happy to talk to your editor. But I've known your editor since before you were born."

...

Before ending the call, Conway threatened that the White House would delve into the personal lives of reporters if they wrote about her husband. "Listen, if you're going to cover my personal life, then we’re welcome to do the same around here," she said.

This is also true, and "journalists" are about to start learning just how true this is.

They keep insisting on this very self-serving "rule:" We can report on everyone else's indiscretions, affairs, and drug use but you can't report on ours because that would be "chilling" the press.

Well listen here, my pale little low-T Gollums: What you're doing is "chilling" how politicians act or vote because they know, for a fact, that if they go against your political preferences, you will dig and dig and dig until you can destroy them.

In fact, you're chilling everyone who dares speak in public but who does not follow the approved One-Party Liberal Establishment DC line.

Why should the same rule not run in the opposite direction?

Only "Journalists" think they should have a special protection from "research" and "routine background social media checks" that literally not another citizen in the world -- including just a kid at a DC protest wearing a hat, or a 24 year old raising money for St. Jude's Children's hospital -- has.

What is this apart from very self-interested special pleading and the assertion of a special higher class of citizenship that is completely hateful to our Constitution and which no one in the world has ever voted into law?

People are already digging into reporters. And I say, godspeed.

Aren't we past the point of pretending that you're "apolitical" truth-seekers?

Did you really think it was huge news that a great many Americans -- including Kellyanne Conway and about 330 million others -- think it's high time we started running some "routine background checks" on you?

Or was this just another bid for attention by Clarity Media's next sunken cruise ship?

Now on to the disputation of Sethie's lies, via Jordan Schaechtel:

That's just background type stuff. As he says, if every time a subject says "if you print that, I'll have your job" or "if you run with that, that's the end of your career" the reporter then gets to decide "Hey, I can now dishonor the off the record promise," then there is no off the record promise, because this shit happens every single day.

Here's the killer part:

If this was "off the record," why did the reporter have to invite Kellyanne to go on the record?

Do not ever give an interview to the Washington Examiner -- they are sneaky liars who will violate the basic norms of journalism to get them some clicks.

Is this one of those end-of-quarter deals where Sethie and the other members of the soy staff have to prove to their billionaire sugar-daddy that they're really getting some "strong online engagement" by racking up some viral clickbait?

Or is Sethie or one of the other gals in the middle of trying to get an MSNBC "contributor" deal and wanted to Demonstrate Value?

So do not ever speak to these sneakly little shits, grifters, and liars, do not permit them to even join conference calls or general briefings, and, on the reader side, embargo them completely.

If you hear of a story you think you must read, use Archive.is or Outline.com or tip your friendly local blogger to take a look and excerpt the two or three important sentences.

Otherwise-- Death Penalty.

Let them pass from the earth unremarked and without trace.

And don't be afraid to ask them some questions out in public, like at their stupid conference where they try to chisel money out of actual Republicans under false pretenses.

And also don't be afraid to promise them their answers are off the record, and then send me the recording.

everything you say anywhere, in any context, to anyone, may be used against you, published publicly, and twisted, and the juicier it is and the more the other party could benefit financially and in their career from using it, the more likely it is to be shared, manipulated, and weaponized.

50 If you want to know why media is going bankrupt, today provides the prime example.

A DC publication is deciding that smart play is abusing what few journalistic ethics are left all to score a boring "gotcha" that tells us nothing we don't already know about Kellyanne Conway.

Meanwhile, a tawdry gender-bending sex scandal with actual *photos* is being covered by the BRITISH PRESS because our reporters are too partisan and prudish to pick it up.

Thus the flaming skull.

DC Examiner is now toast. Best case, is they stagger through the election but go under afterwards.

Note that the outcome won't matter, because if Trump wins, it will be irrelevant and die and if Trump loses it will still be insufficiently liberal and its staff will sent to the camps.

67 Is remarkable how fast the press went from pretty bad to just generally collapsed. Dealt with a diverse group of them in an extremely high profile situation for an extended period - they were completely cooperative. Enough that we opened the kimono to the best quite a bit, to give them a better understanding of the story. This was years, but not eons, ago.

Even had a policy to keep my name out of their stories, a request observed perfectly save for one Euro wire guy who effed up, and apologized profusely.

The absence of a real press*, combined with the collapse of civic education and much of education generally - quite the nukyler one-two punch.

WEx is incredibly, INCREDIBLY sexist if they think they must define Conway based on her husband, and then get butthurt when she calls them on it. I love her saying he gets power from her, because it's true. She is not trying to create a chilling effect on the naive young reporterette, she is actually trying to educate her on how to do her job. 87 I gave an interview to a local rag reporter once, who was standing outside of the Post Office collecting comments for a local color puff piece. It was between Christmas and New Year's Day.

He explained what he was doing, and asked if I had made any New Year's resolutions. I thought for a moment and said "Yes. I've decided to do my Christian best to forgive the slipshod reporting by the media".

The guy had been writing this down and stopped. He said, "I can't print that".

"Oh?" says I, "Why not?"

The poor guy looked chagrined and said, "I just can't."

I just nodded, and walked away.

A, he does - the MSM would not give a sh#t about his twitter tantrums if he was not married to a key member of Trump's team.

B, imagine if this were Hillary upset that the press were upset by her retired husbands statements while she's SoS or a POTUS candidate. They would be fist-bumping her (yaaaas queen!) and saying it's misogynist to always include info about her husband when she is the current power-player in the family.

Also, no fig leaf of "ongoing investigation" since the whole purpose is to see if legal procedures were observed. If anything, that becomes Brady material the public has a right to see.

204 I can't make this pithy but journalists are basically diaryists who are pretending that their feelz and what they thought they heard should be on record.

I wish we could ship all journalists to Mexico, Yemen et al and only keep old fashioned reporters (a small group) Assemble the facts, verify them or at least ones that if wrong change the whole story. If you are going to add your opinion do it after stating the facts and be honest and tell the readers that you are adding your own opinion. You have to go to journalism school to unlearn those basics and learn that only advancing the narrative to advance humankind towards utopia is your purpose.

206 0 My favorite part is the women responding to the reporters twitter who are upset that Kellyann said her husband gets her power from me.
________________

You have to remember that these people are all Dims, and they're used to "powerful" women like Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama, both of whom would be unknown and un-powerful today (both would probably be disbarred lawyers working as paralegals in some legal aid clinics) if not for the men they married.

The Dims don't understand marriages where the woman is more successful and powerful than the husband. They don't even understand marriages where the woman is powerful and successful in her own right, and does not have to rely upon the husband's power and success for her own.

All Dim women are like this. Even Elizabeth Warren. Know how she got those Ivy League teaching jobs, despite having a Rutgers law degree? She was a "spousal hire." The good law schools wanted to hire her much more talented and much better-credentialed husband Bruce Mann, so they threw in a teaching job for Warren as an incentive to get Mann.

This is why a woman like Conway baffles Dims. They just can't get how a woman can be powerful and successful on her own merit.

Great point!
And yet they will be all 'look at this strong, successful woman!" as if the connections didn't matter --- and with GOP women, like Kellyanne and take pleasure in using her husbands antics to bring her down. One of the biggest mistakes people make is relocating when they don't have to. There are very few cases where taking to the road without a clear destination is a good idea.

But if one must leave (say a chemical spill, etc.) then a long weapon/pistol combination is not unreasonable. Unless you live alone, you might have a spouse who carries something different.

I get the notion of narrowing the choice, in which case I would say: "What would you recommend for someone to buy as their *first purchase* towards a SHTF scenario?"

A classic combination (common in the Old West) is a rifle/pistol combo that uses the same ammunition. Lots of carbines on the market that are chambered for pistol cartridges.

Alternatively, you go with calibers the local police/military use so you can "borrow" ammunition.

But a big factor is where you live? Open vistas or urban nightmare?

Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at October 24, 2019 07:45 PM (cfSRQ)

340 One of the biggest mistakes people make is relocating when they don't have to.

Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at October 24, 2019 07:41 PM (cfSRQ)

I agree that relocating is not always necessary, however, some times it is so it should be prepared for. I would rather have one rifle calibre and a ton of ammunition than five different calibres with an equal amount of ammunition divided between them.

Anyway

374 248, There is a basic shortage of "reporters" not "journalists" on the right.

Robert McCain, (The Other McCain) was one and he is basically having to do it on his own dime now. Salena Zito, is probably the closest actual national reporter left in the media that leaves out the obligatory "Orangeman bad" from every article and the late Robert Novak and William Safire were quite good as well.

There are some niche reporters that I follow where I have no knowledge about where they are ideologically.

There are certain other folks that are basically getting the stuff fed to them so I dunno if they are actual reporters or simply passing along what they get wholesale. For that reason I will pass them by.

Basically, all rightie publications now, just like most of those on the left, are funded by the pocket change that they get out of people peddling influence in Washington. For the normal leftist media corps, they have the remains of the wire services such as AP and Reuters to write their stories along with a smidge of original reporting from the NYT and WashPost. WSJ does some original reporting on Wall St. and Business. The rest of the legacy media continues to shrivel up as the pages in newspapers shrink due to Google controlling ad money. The TV networks simply piggyback off what the wire services and the NYT/WASH POST dig up with the occasional story from the hinterlands outside of Boswash corridor.

The proliferation of the bloggers gave an opportunity to actually tell the stories but sadly most of the PJ Media ends up simply the conservative take on whatever hairball the leftist media coughs up. Its cheap, easy, and the outrage can generate clicks but it lacks any way to actually move the country.

Clickbait type operations run cheap, they hire leftist journalists for whatever stories they promote because they get them cheap, the leftist newbie journalists shaft a conservative to get their angel wings, and then they depart to the traditional media where they wanted to be all along.

Gope Politicians such as Mitt the shrinking violet do the same. To get the respect they crave, they shaft their own supporters over and over again because of profit and/or they are like male trannies competing in womens sports--the competition in some states is easier in a GOP heavy state. They play for the other side but pose heroically when they lose as Mr. Conservative. Gopesters and their media gateways on the right basically have two principles: the grift and conserving nothing so that any real movement to the right is prevented. Think John McVain as their avatar.

The same sort of folderol occurred during the Framing and at other periods in our history where the elites despised the general citizen but the internet age makes it almost impossible to hide over the long run to anyone that is observant. Thus, in almost every Western nation, the trust in their leaders is vanishing as is their belief in their political institutions when grift after grift, lie after lie, and elite idiocy produces repeatedly bad policy outcomes. The post hoc media explanations have been reduced to something like the waning days of the Soviet Press.
